1.
十一月的鸾镇干燥并且寒冷。倚靠着的北方的山峦，阻碍了季风和水汽，天际堆满灰沉的云团，却迟迟不肯降下雨雪。一如鸾镇摆摊的小贩们，用各种蒙灰的塑料布搭起的简棚和随手丢弃的垃圾灰扑扑地填充满了街道。
我瑟缩在四面透风的缴费店里，极力想找一个大一点的遮蔽物挡住彻骨的冷风，而店主在柜台后面故意讽刺我似的，几乎将整个身子贴在了电暖气上。他一边用一块看起来油腻腻的抹布擦拭柜台里面的手机模型，一面叮嘱我说一会儿来了人千万不能把责任全推卸在他的身上。
用了好久的翻盖手机终于在闹市中丢了，我一度担心它从中间断开可一时又找不到换新手机的借口。但我合不得手机里的那张电话卡，许多藕断丝连我却从不好意思主动联系的人，唯独只知道这一个关于我的联系方式。
学校的地理位置比鸾镇还要偏僻，打开宿合的后窗就是清晰可见的山脉，贪图方便的我并没有为了补卡跑到三个小时路程以外的市区，而是将就着在这个离得相对较近的小镇缴费店里办了手续。不过所谓的“手续”也只是交过三十块钱后，在一张粗制滥造的手机促销传单的背面留下自己要补办的号码，再从看起来就不靠谱的店长那里听得一
句“放心吧，我有内部关系，你把电话写那，三天我就给你办的妥妥的。”就算是得到了保证。
再后来，我写错了一位数的过失成功地让莲安在电话里将我和店长的八辈祖宗一个不落地数落了一遍，也证明了店长某种程度上的可靠。虽然店长一再痛心疾首地数落我“年纪轻轻记性就这么差了。”也不能阻止莲安气势汹汹地找上门来要求投诉。
拿到卡的当天下午我还在纳闷，平时每隔十五分钟就能收到一条短信的手机怎么格外安静，打电话给别人的时候却被告知我用的号码和之前的不是同一个。大概过了两周之后我接到了莲安打来的电话，我庆幸当时没有把手机的听筒音量开到最大，否则我不确定我的耳膜现在是否健在。
“你要死啊!”这是她对我说的第一句话。在我还没有反应过来究竟发生了什么事情之前，我已经被她形容成一个一无是处的人渣。我握着电话的掌心发烫，却组织不出一句完整的话来反驳这个剽悍的姑娘。直到被她逼问出我在哪里补办到了这张电话卡后，她才肯放过过我转而去攻击倒霉的店主。
协商的结果就是我现在站在这个四面漏风的缴费店里，战战兢兢地等着莲安来拿回她的卡。店主威胁我说如果不能让她打消投诉的念头的话，我就永远别想补回我自己的卡了。这对那些存着我的电话，有可能联系我的姑娘们，这无疑是一个噩耗，为了她们将来的幸福，我只好一百个不情愿地等在这里。

就在我出神地盯着柜台里一款号称超长待机一个月的山寨机的时候，莲安大步地迈进了店里。之所以这么确定她的身份，是因为她那和电话里如出一辙的声音“我的电话卡呢?”她直奔店长的方向，双手撑在柜台上面，那副不耐烦的表情让我觉得下一秒她就会像演电影那样压碎柜台上的玻璃。
店早长就摆出了一副狗腿子的模样候在一旁，恨不得将脸上的纹路挤出蜜来才能体现他的热情和亲切，同时他粗短的手指也指向了我这边，将一颗无形的不定时炸弹推向我，“找他，你的卡在他那里。”
莲安的外表出乎我的意料，在我的想象里她应该是有着可以媲美艾瑞斯·克里的身材才敢在电话里那样叫嚣。我站起身来，她的身高只到我的肩膀，从我视线的角度来看，只能看到她的头顶和被齐帘刘海遮挡得严严实实的额头。
“还给我。”她伸出手掌，遮匿在袖口的镯子和蓝色松石的链子碰得叮当作响。她的手指抵在我的胸口，让我感到一种无形的压迫。我退后一步才看清楚了莲安的样子，刚开始化妆的姑娘都有这种通病，眼线描得歪歪扭扭，睫毛涂得浓密得像苍蝇腿，眨一眨眼睛就能在脸上晕开两朵黑色的花。她的脸被冷风吹得通红，偶尔吸一下鼻子的小动作让我有了发笑的冲动。
“你是C大的?”她瞥见我在口袋边缘露出一角的学生证。
“嗯，你也在那上学?”我想趁机套近乎。一面是出于店长的交代，一面是出于我自己的私心。虽然莲安的性格似乎不怎么招人喜欢，但她的长相还是让我蠢蠢欲动的。
如果是我的学妹那就更好了，以后可以借着各种机会让我这个当学长的在她面前大显身手。
“你过来的时候有没有看到三个骑自行车的女孩儿?”她没有回答我，而是问了另外的问题。
“有的。我记得其中一个女孩子戴了一顶黄色的毛线帽子。”
“你在哪看见的?”
“来的时候，我跟她们同路，鸾镇不大，她们应该就在附近了。”
“那不是吗，坐在麻辣烫摊前那三个人。”我走到店门外四处看了一下，很快就发现了她们的身影。那顶黄色的帽子十分显眼，是灰蒙蒙的鸾镇中少见的一抹亮色。刚才骑着车子在路上摇摇摆摆的女孩们现在已经围在一起吃得津津有味。
“电话卡，快点儿。”她突然猛地用胳膊肘顶了我一下。
我揉着余痛未消的肋骨，看她麻利地掀开手机后壳抠掉电池，把卡换进去。
“喂，你们到哪了?”她拨通电话。
“我们还在路上呢，你不会到鸾镇了吧?”莲安的手机音量很大，我站在一米开外都能将电话里的声音听得清清楚楚。
“没有呢。我也在路上。”她面不改色地说谎。
“那我们到了再给你打电话哦。先挂了，骑车子打电话很危险的。”
“嗯，拜拜。”莲安收起了手机。“喂，今天你陪我一天，我就不追究这回事了。”她盯着我，语气不容置否。
“啊?”我被这突如其来的变化弄得措手不及，不知道莲安心里打的什么算盘。
“陪这么漂亮的女孩子你都不愿意，真是脑子不好使了。”店长趁机在一旁添油加醋，想早点把这个麻烦推给我。“本来就是你的错，这是个将功赎罪的好机会。难得人家女孩儿那么主动，这是多少男人梦寐以求的好机会啊，你说是不是……”
店长的油嘴滑舌终于在我和莲安的共同凝视下打住。我微微点头，算是同意了她的话。

莲安走路很快，快到我有些跟不上。然而在离那个摊位还有十几米距离的时候，她停了下来，躲进旁边的商店里。
“怎么了?”我疑惑地问。
“这样直接过去太难堪了。”她自顾自地从我口袋里掏出零钱买了一包口香糖，美名其日“精神补偿”。
直到她嚼完第四颗口香糖才一脸不情愿地把最后那一个递给了我。是我讨厌的茉莉薄荷味，但我还是接下了。
“走吧。”她把吐掉的口香糖用包装纸包好再塞回我兜里，扯着我的袖子向那几个已经吃完的女生走去。
“哎，你们先到了吗，等了挺久的吧。”
“是啊，你怎么这么慢。”女生娇嗔着挽着莲安的胳膊。“对了，你要不要吃一点东西，刚才姜恩说她饿了，先要了点东西吃。”
我站在莲安身后，明显地看出来女孩在为自己来不及吃完东西的同伴解围。
但莲安仿佛不明所以一般，也站在摊前挑挑拣拣一些自己喜欢的菜。
“莲安!”我叫住她，替她感到窝火。
“这是你朋友?怎么不介绍一下。”女生放开了莲安的胳膊，转到我面前。
“你也是C大的吧，我好像在哪见过你。”
“嗯。”我心不在焉地回答。
“你叫什么?”
“柳明。”
“你……不会是莲安的男朋友吧。”她拽拽我的袖子，一副似乎已经关系好得不得了的神情。换做之前，我可能对她还怀有好感，但现在，那种感觉已经荡然无存了。她的话让我一时间尴尬不已。“怎么可能。”
“我就说嘛，莲安不可能有男朋友。”她的语气里带着转瞬即逝的讽刺。我用余光瞥见莲安的动作顿了一下，然后装作没听见般若无其事地坐下来吃东西。
“不是的，我是说我在追莲安，不过她没有答应罢了。”我突然鬼使神差地开口说道。
“这样啊。”女生有点失落，随即又跑到叫做姜恩的女生身旁。
“快点吃，我们还要去别的地方玩嘛。”她不耐烦地催促，然后和另外一个女生一起走到一旁推自行车。我注意到莲安碗里的东西只吃了不到三分之一的样子。
“等等我，我吃好了。”莲安撇下筷子。
“剩了这么多啊?”姜恩凑过来。“我们先去那边转一转，你吃你的。说不定一会儿就碰见了。”
“正好我也饿了，莲安我们一起吃吧。”我在桌子下面拽着莲安的袖子制止她起身。直到那几个女生走掉后我才松开手。
“多管闲事。”她说，白我了一眼之后不再理我。

莲安的头发是明显染过的厚重的黑色，带着天然的卷曲垂在脸旁。一些从衣服上掉下来的羽絮粘在她的发梢上，使她本来就毛躁的头发更显得凌乱不堪。我伸手帮她摘了下来，她的发质和她此刻的表情一样糟糕，死气沉沉。
“那些是你的同学?”我问。
“是室友。”
“有必要退让到这种程度吗?”我捏紧了一次性筷子，但它很轻易地就从中间断开了。
“我不常在学校，也很少有朋友。”她回答。然后从一个铁皮桶里抽出来一双新的筷子递给我。
鸾镇的冬天一直不见降雪，干燥的气候让灰尘全部随着寒风飘卷在半空中，然后落在衣服、座椅、树木，还有食物上。这里的一切都带着一股灰尘味，就像我想接莲安的话却不知道要说什么一样，哽在咽喉处难以下咽。
“走吧。”碗里的菜还剩下一半，莲安拍了拍有些褶皱的衣服下摆，“我们去找她们。”
我生闷气，不回答她，跟在她身后与她保持着三步远的距离。一路上她始终都没有回头看我，我倒是期望她能再骂我一句“多管闲事”来缓解这压抑的气氛。
她走路的方式很独特，低着头，沿着路砖的切缝直线走，每五步都要停下来避开黄色的路转，然后走在白色的上面。像个幼稚的小孩子。
我们步行至一处手工市场，很多上了年纪的人在那里摆摊卖自制的咸菜或蜜饯，还有手工缝制的棉袄和鞋垫，绣着大红的牡丹，或是点缀着翠色嫩黄的鸳鸯。
莲安从随身携带的包里掏出了一个照相机开始拍照，相机机身的漆已经被磨掉了好几处，露出金属色的边角，看起来是用了相当长时间的东西。
“你喜欢这些东西?”我拿起一件小短袄，上面绣的是喜鹊和花枝。
“我喜欢摄影。”她说。
“用单反相机才专业一点吧。”我挑出她的毛病，有这样爱好的人很多，但多数只是三分钟的热度，拿着普通相机做一做样子。
“买不起。”她说，然后往冻得发红的手中呵热气，径直走到另一边卖布料的摊子，继续摆弄着相机。有小孩子跑到她的镜头前面挤眉弄眼，她乐呵呵地拍了一张又一张，把衣服上沾满土灰的孩子拦进自己的怀里举着相机合影。在一旁摆摊卖点心的妇人不好意思地叫回自己的孩子，然后抓了一些裹着白糖炸金黄的点心给莲安。她分给了我一些，被风吹得失掉了水分的干硬糕点，后味却甜得腻口，放足了蜂蜜。

莲安似乎经常光顾鸾镇，边角旮旯里的小摊她都如数家珍，甚至她绕了大半圈只为了带我去看一台用来轧棉花的机器，用来制作被子。印着各式花色的鲜亮被套堆在一起，散发着一股煤油味。这个镇子保留着上个世纪的风格，四处可见卖大幅挂历和年画的地摊。我们还看到待卖的金鱼，一动不动地停在结了一层薄冰的水面下。莲安用指关节敲了敲鱼缸，金鱼们才在塑料做的水草间缓缓地游动一下。

A Puma at large逃遁的美洲狮 Where must the puma have come from? Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged to investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw 'a large cat' only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and experts confirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered. The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of "cat-like noises' at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from? As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild animal is still at large in the quiet countryside.

It must be the traffic, but many country people find it difficult to breathe in the city. And it is stressful, too: people always seem to be in a rush, and they are so often rude and unfriendly.
