The man disagrees with the new change ... keeping the computer lab open at night to meet students' needs. He seems to have two reasons.

The first reason he thought it was unnecessary ... is because he thinks that students should study during the day ... and they should have some kind of personal, night life. It sounds like he doesn't like evening classes ... and even felt a bit offended they didn't ask him first.

The second is that he thinks the professors will make more money by having to teach extra night classes. And ... that *that* money could have been used to buy more computers ... instead. It sounds like he thinks simply adding more computers would solve the problem.

Those are the two reasons he gave for disagreeing.

2006.10.15.q3

The man likes the way the orientation plan for new students changed ... going from two days of hiking to one day with a choice of hiking or playing games.

He said that new students are too busy as it is, and taking a whole weekend to hike takes too much time away from the important things.

He said that they are there to be students, and it is important for them to meet the teachers, pay their tuition, prepare for classes, and so on.

He added that the students may feel they are wasting too much time hiking so they might choose to skip that long orientation.

So, he said that changing it to one day with a choice of hiking or playing games it a great idea.

2006.10.21.q3

The man doesn't like the university's plan to turn the art gallery into an office building.

There are two main reasons for the plan given in the notice ... and he simply responds to both of them.

Note: This file was created 2008-07-04 at 11:26 CST He said the university's first reason was misleading. Since art students want to make sure their work is just right ... or perfect ... before it goes on display, that can take a long time. So it only seems like they weren't taking advantage of the gallery.

His response to the second is that the university is to blame. He said that with better communication, more people would probably attend. He also added that the school newspaper is often too late or incorrect in its reporting about the art gallery.

For those reasons, he doesn't like the plan.

2006.10.22.q3

Quite clearly, the woman doesn't like the idea of a website replacing the university health center.

She said that at their school, the winter weather can be bad, and so many students can get sick. And the website won't be able to help them like the health center can.

The man said that another university found *their* website very successful. She then shot down the success of the other school's website, attributing it to the mild winter they had.

So, she said that it is important to discover the real reason why fewer students go to see the doctor.

She said that the real answer was not to close the health center, but rather to hire more doctors ... The number of doctors should increase as the student population grows.

2006.10.28.q3

She doesn't like the plan of the university to make off-campus apartments. She has two reasons which discredit the two reasons given by the university.

The first is that people living off campus may have to drive. If they drive, the university will need more parking spaces, which uses up the valuable space the university wants to save by building apartments off campus.

Note: This file was created 2008-07-04 at 11:26 CST The second is that people living off campus should participate in university activities. The notice says that the students, by living off campus, could participate in activities in the surrounding community, not at the university. She says that they are students ... and so they should be focused on university activities.

Those are the two reasons she gives to explain her reason for not liking the university plan.

2006.10.29.q3

She thinks it's a great idea ... to build a new Art Building. She says, that it's

*about time*.

She said that the old building is too dark ... and that a new building with big windows will be much better. She believes that windows are important because the natural light from the sun shows the colors in the artwork much better than electric lights.

She also liked the idea because the school already has a good reputation in the Art Department. The old building, she said, didn't match that good reputation; but that a new building will even help that reputation by attracting more art students to the university.

Those are the reasons she likes the idea.

2006.11.03.q3

The man disagrees with the plan to move the elections ... for the student union ... from May to September.

He acknowledges the university's reasons, but he thinks that the students are just as busy in September as in May. Even though they're taking exams in May, they are also finding new apartments or starting new classes in September.

He thinks that first year students ... in September ... are not knowledgeable or interested in voting at the school. They're usually interested in other things and don't even know who to vote for. He asked the woman to think back to when she started school.

He thinks it is wrong that they ... the university ... are changing the election date for those reasons.

The woman is happy about the changes because of the end result ... the computer lab will have more competent workers ... and it will be open longer hours.

She likes the idea that only qualified people will be hired to work in the lab. In the past, she had some bad experiences there. One was when she was having trouble with the printer, but the employees didn't even know how to help.

The other idea ... that they won't hire technicians ... was a bit confusing.

But ... I think it was related to the fact that technicians only worked from nine to five, whereas the other people would work any hours. She seemed to like that idea because it could mean the lab would be open many more hours ... perhaps even from nine in the morning to nine at night.

2006.11.18.q3

There were two ideas for improving the health center. The man didn't like either one.

The first was to hire more doctors because the ones working there were too busy.

He didn't like that idea because it is already quite crowded at the center ... with such small rooms. Hiring more doctors would make it even more crowded.

The second suggestion was to stay open during the weekend.

He didn't like that idea because he thinks that many students are not on campus during the weekend, so they wouldn't be able to take advantage of the weekend hours.

So you can see ... the man didn't like either idea.

2006.11.19.q3

He thinks it's a stupid idea - the planned renovation - they're doing at the library.

He didn't think their decisions were based on the feedback from students.

Note: This file was created 2008-07-04 at 11:26 CST He didn't like the wooden floor idea because it would be too noisy ... compared to a carpet ... and the library should be quiet.

He thought decorating the area by the front door with pictures was a waste of money. No one would pay attention to the pictures anyway.

About updating the equipment, he thought it was OK; but to him, it seemed like it was only one out of many things that were suggested by the students. He wanted more things done.

So, generally, he disagreed with the plan ... except the part about the new equipment.

2006.11.21.q3

The man strongly disagrees with the new parking policy.

Briefly, the policy says that students that live on campus will not be allowed to have private cars on campus because the parking lots are too full.

To disagree so strongly, perhaps he actually lives on campus. That seems to affect his opinion.

He believes that people that live on campus may have a real need to own and keep a car on campus. He uses his own situation to show why.

First he says he sometimes needs to go shopping ... and to the movies, which are off campus. Then, he explains that he has a part time job, which is also off campus. He feels that he cannot do that without a car.

He also added that if someone can't find a parking spot, it is their own fault ... they should arrive earlier.

2006.12.03.q3

She doesn't like the new policy at all.

She agrees that the university has a very good *academic* reputation, but that the *sports* reputation should be just as good. She thinks that many visitors like the university because of both the academics and athletics.

As for the trash part of the policy, she thinks that if the university puts out more trash bins, littering on campus won't be that big of a problem anymore.

Note: This file was created 2008-07-04 at 11:26 CST Anyway, she strongly dislikes the new policy ... the policy restricting students from playing soccer on the field, near the front entrance.

2006.12.08.q3

Quite clearly, the woman doesn't like the dormitory renovation plan.

The first objection is that it will take two years, and the construction work will be quite noisy. She thinks the noise ... during that time ... will actually drive more students away from the on-campus dormitories ... which is opposite one purpose of the renovation.

The second objection is that the rent will probably have to go up. She explains that the cost of the renovation will most likely be paid by the students living there ... after it's all done. She said that it will be a very expensive renovation, costing a lot in workers salaries and materials ... and other things.

So, even though she doesn't express an opinion about the *need* for renovations, she does object to the plan for practical reasons.

2006.12.10.q3

The man likes the new plan to put the library books on the university computer network.

He said that he heard about one plan to rebuild the library, and that plan sounded too expensive. That plan involved not only buying new books, but also adding shelves, and later, making the building bigger.

Instead, with the new plan, many books and journals will be put on the university computer network. This way, he reasoned, students will be able to access the material from their own computer ... or from one of the university's many computers.

He said that as long as someone is a student, and on campus, they can access the library material any time, and even from their own dorm rooms.

He said that will be very convenient and much less expensive.

The woman was very excited about the plan to expanding the university radio station.

She said that it would be a significant improvement, more than just adding different styles of music.

For example, she said that by extending its range into the nearby town, more people would be able to hear it.

Then, since more people from the surrounding communities would be listening, they might be able to raise money through advertising.

Then, like a nearby university did with its radio station, this university could use that money to offer scholarships to the students.

She thought that whole plan was a very good idea.

2006.12.16.q3

The man thinks the university's plan will not be effective ... and will be unfair to the freshmen.

They agree that there is a parking problem, but he said it is not caused by the freshmen. He said that less than one hundred freshmen applied for parking permits, but the parking problem is a lot bigger than that.

He made no comments about the university's motive to encourage freshmen students to live on campus ... probably because he thought it wasn't a problem ... nor the cause of the parking problem.

He did offer a possible solution to the parking problem. He said there is a large empty area in front of the playing field, on campus. If that area can be used for parking, he said it might solve the problem ... not only for now, but for the long term.

2007.03.03.q3

He doesn't like the changes that are planned.

所谓真实性,其一,它的语速与本族语说话人(English native speaker)的语速相仿;其二,听力材料中很自然地含有fillers:sort of, uh, um, so, well, etc.;和口语体:we’re gonna talk about ...; An’ I’m gonna get into…;以及说话人下意识的、或是为了强调而有意识的“重复(repetition)”;等等。 SAMPLE QUESTIONS:

What charactereristics do you think a good teacher should have?(06. 3.3; 07. 11.3考题)

Sample answer: In my view, a good teacher should have different characteristics. First, a good teacher should be faithful and dedicated to the job. If a teacher is faithful to the job, then s/he never cheats and will be impartial(偏向)and students will respect such a teacher. If a teacher is dedicated towards his/her work, then s/he will teach with his/her heart. Another most important characteristic of a good teacher is patience. Teachers should never lose their patience in class when students ask questions repeatedly. A teacher should explain each and every aspect of the topic in the easiest way. Most of all, a good teacher should update his/her knowledge ‘cause further learning can make a good teacher re-discover the beauty of the teaching profession. 2. What are important characteristics you look for in friends?(06. 5.12; 06. 6.24; 07.1.27考题) Sample answer: I think what makes a good friend is someone who is honest, supportive, and has a good sense of humor. I just look for someone who's honest to me no matter what. He should not tell stories behind my back; he should tell me my short-comings at my mouth, but never praises me in front of me. It is a well known saying that "A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED." Therefore, a friend should stand by you in the hour of any sort of need. I just think that a good friend won't leave me if I'm in trouble. They can be my friends in sunshine and in shade, care for me even when the times are bad and even more when the times are great. Also, I'd love to spend more time with someone who can make me laugh and is fun to be around. 3. Describe a person that influenced you most.(06. 5.26; 06. 3. 17;06.10.22考题;与06.5.26类似) Sample answer: The person that really influenced me most was Ms. Xing---my college teacher who taught us English literature. Her class was quite different from the other teachers. In her class we were not expected to sit there and listen. We had to get more involved in the class activities, like discussions, comments or debates sometimes. Our creativity and imagination were developed enormously through the active participation. On the other hand, she let us think more about life by sharing her experiences and more importantly, she taught me how to live on my own. So that's why I was greatly influenced. Not only did she give me knowledge, but also she gave me courage and confidence as well.

独立口语命题independent speaking task(类似于雅思口语第二部分的考察方式,给定问题单纯考speaking skill);2.综合口语命题integrated speaking task(根据阅读和听力的内容回答问题,是一种新型考试形式,考察学生阅读听力和口语等综合能力)。 Verbal and Nonverbal Communication When we speak with other people face-to-face, the nonverbal signals we give—our facial expressions, hand gestures, body movements, and tone of voice—often communicate as mush as, or more than, the words we utter. When our nonverbal signals, which we often produce unconsciously, agree with our verbal message, the verbal message is enhanced and supported, made more convincing. But when they conflict with the verbal message, we maybe communicating an entirely different and more accurate message than what we intend. Nonverbal & verbal message in face-to-face talk

001 It’s necessary to prohibit people from using phone calls in some places. I strongly agree with the opinion that the use if a mobile phone should be forbidden in some places, such as library and airplanes. The most common reason for people going to a library is to find a silent environment to read their favorite books without interruption. But if you receive a phone call in the library or just send out messages, the mobile phone will ring. People have personal right to use their mobile phone. The others are not supposed to be involved in the unnecessary disturbance. And I do not think it is very polite unless you can turn down the volume. Another place is the airplane. As we all know that it is very dangerous to have a phone call in an airplane. It may cause interference between the signals. Therefore mobile phone should be banned in airplanes unless there is a new technique that can avoid it. 002 Study in big cities or small towns. I definitely prefer to study in big cities. The most common reason for us to study is to find a good job. There are many more job opportunities in big cities than in small towns. If I study in big cities, I can do a part-time job while studying, and seize opportunities to work there after I graduate from university. In addition, the big city can provide us a plenty of internship opportunities. Moreover, jobs in big cities can offer more salary. So that’s why I think big city is more attractive to me. 003 Work in the office or at home I definitely prefer to work in the office. As we all know that home is a kind of place that can provide you with a comfortable environment to relax, but it is not for working. Working at home can makes you feel more and more sleepy. In the office, there is a good atmosphere to encourage you, and that can make you concentrate on what you are handling with. What’s more, the office will provide you with the facilities and documents you need for your work, so you are able to manage you work and issues more efficient ly. 004 Higher education should for all people or a certain people. I definitely think that the university should be open to all students. It is a right for every student who needs education to enter into universities no matter he/she is rich or poor. The more well-educated students the universities produce, the fast speed of development our society will have. As a saying goes, only to rely on investment equipment and infrastructure is not a long-term development way for a strong state, trying to improve the whole national quality and to invest in training people in education is the long-term development path.

T1: which of the following three behaviors would you consider the most negative for kids? Being selfish, saying impolite things or speaking loudly in the public? I would say that speaking loudly might have the most negative impact on kids, as it could be pretty annoying and disturbing to others, and without being aware of this, the kids might have the bad habit of ignoring others’feeling in the long term. Imagine that you are watching a movie in a cinema or listening to a concert in a hall, a naughty boy is talking loudly over the phone or chatting with his friends all the way without caring about others, it could be a real nightmare. And this has happened a lot to me, for example last time when I went to see The Dallas Buyers Club, a bunch of kids were talking so loudly from the very beginning of the movie that I could barely catch a word from Ron Woodroof, and all the other viewers got so annoyed and disappointed for that. T2: Do you agree or disagree that to succeed we need to make enemies? Well I disagree with the opinion, coz it’s true that most of the time we do face a lot of competitors and rivals in order to succeed, but it doesn’t mean that we have to make enemies. Let’s take a look at LA Lakers, when Kobe Bryant joined Lakers as a Shooting Guard in 1996, he was facing a lot of equally strong competitors like Allen Iverson and Ray Allen, but at that time Shaquille O’Neal was already the second-to-none Center in the whole association.
