本大纲适用于修完《基本要求》所规定的全部内容的高等职业教育、普通高等专科教育、成人高等教育和本 科办二级技术学院各非英语专业的学生。

本考试的目的是考核考生的语言知识、语言技能和使用英语处理有关一般业务和涉外交际的基本能力，其性 质是教学---水平考试。
考试方式
考试方式为笔试，包括五个部分：听力理解、语法结构、阅读理解、翻译（英译汉）和写作（或汉译英）。 考试范围为《基本要求》对A级所规定的全部内容。

英语A级相当于大学英语三级考试，略低于CET4，根据大专院校学生能力而设的考试等级。
高等学校英语应用能力考试 (简称PRETCO)是由教育部批准成立的高等学校英语应用能力考试委员会设计、 供高职高专院校和成人高专院校学生自愿参加的标准化考试。本门考试主要考核考生实际应用英语进行日常和业 务涉外交际的能力，旨在促进高职高专英语教学向培养高等应用技术型；同时为用人单位提供对高职高专毕业生 英语水平的评价标准，以提高其进入人才市场的竞争力。
第一部分：听力理解（Listening Comprehensive） 测试考生理解所听对话、会话和简单短文的能力。听力材料的语速为每分钟120词。对话、会话和短文以日 常生活和实用的交际性内容为主。词汇限于《基本要求》的“词汇表”中3，400词的范围，交际内容涉及《基本 要求》中的“交际范围表”所列的全部听说范围。 本部分的得分占总分的20%。测试时间为20分钟。 第二部分：语法结构（Structure） 测试考生运用语法知识的能力。测试范围包括《基本要求》中的“语法结构表”所规定的全部内容。 本部分的得分占总分的15%。测试时间为10分钟。 第三部分：阅读理解（Reading Comprehension） 测试考生从书面文字材料获取信息的能力。总阅读量约1，000词。

高等学校英语应用能力考试说明
高等学校英语应用能力考试 (简称PRETCO)是由教育部批准成立的高等学校英语应用能力考试委员会设计、供高职高专院校和成人高专院校学生自愿参加的标准化考试。
也是由教育部高等教育司委托全国高职高专英语课程教学指导委员会和全国高等学校英语应用能力考试委员组织进行的国家级考试。
本门考试主要考核考生实际应用英语进行日常和业务涉外交际的能力，旨在促进高职高专英语教学向培养高等应用技术型人才的方向进行改革；同时为用人单位提供对高职高专毕业生英语水平的评价标准，以提高其进入人才市场的竞争力。
高等学校英语应用能力考试于1998年经高教司批准向部分省、市、自治区推荐试行，2000年正式实施。
发展至今，本门考试己为20余省、市、自治区采用，起到了推动高职高专英语课程以“实用为主，应用为目的”的教学改革的目的，并逐渐为人才市场所认可。
考试时间：
笔试：每年举行两次，即6月份和12月份/1月份。
口试（试行）：每年暂定一次，即10月份。
考试形式：笔试和听力测试120分钟；口语考试15分钟。
考试对象：高职高专学校修完公共英语课程的在校学生。
考点设置：各高职高专学校。
报名
1）报名资格
（1）高职高专和成人高专院校修完英语课程《基本要求》A级或B
级规定内容的学生均可自愿报名。
（2）考生可根据本校规定报考A级或B级。
（3）毕业生离校后不能再参加考试。
（4）凡己取得A级或B级考试合格证书者，不得再报名参加同一级考试。
2）报名方法
（1）以考点（即考生所在院校）为单位自愿参加，集体报名。
考点不接受非考点所在院校的考生报名。
考试报名地点：各高职高专学校。
考试合格证书：由国家考委会统一发给 A、B级合格证书或口语合格证书。
考试报名费标准：笔试16元，口语考试35元。

高等学校英语应用能力等级考试(A/B级)简介
高等学校英语应用能力考试（Practical English Test for Colleges）是在教育部高教司指导下的全国范围的英语测试。
本考试从1998年至2000年在我国部分省份试行，2000年正式实施。
本考试的主要依据是《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求（试行）》。
本考试主要面对对象是高等职业学校、普通高等专科学校、成人高等学校和本科办二级技术学院的学生。
考试的目的是考核考生的语言知识、语言技能和使用英语处理有关一般业务和涉外交际的基本能力。
本考试于每届学生的第三、四学期进行。
考试时间为120分钟。
本考试按百分制计分，满分为100分。
60分以上为及格；85分以上为优秀。
考试成绩合格者发给“高等学校英语应用能力考试”相应等级的合格证书。
考试分为A级和B级两个级别，并同时进行测试。
A级是标准级别，覆盖《基本要求》的全部内容：B级略抵于A极，是过度级别。
参加哪一个级别的考试由各院校和考生自己决定。
考试由五个部分组成：听力理解（Listening Comprehension）、词汇与结构（Vocabulary&Structure）、阅读理解（Reading Comprehension）、翻译（Translation）(英译汉)和写作（Writing）。
