The appeal of the interview has everything to do with the human factor. Most people believe that they are a reasonable judge of character and trust their instinctive feeling. We might use some kind of test to aid theselection process, but we usually pick a candidate who interviews well, has good qualifications and impressive work record. But suppose the candidate lies or is less than completely honest. “This can be a serious problem for employers”, explains Alan Conrad, Chief Executive at Optimus Recruiment. “The most difficult liars to find are those who tell half-truths rather than complete lies.”Research shows that up to 75 percent of resumes are inaccurate on purpose. The most common practice is omission.Interviewer should therefore concentrate on areas of uncertainy such as gaps between periods of employment and job descriptions that seem strange. “Focusing on these areas will force candidates to tell the truth or become increasingly dishonest. This is usually when people signal their anxiety by their body language. Sweat on the upper lip, false smiles and nervous hand movements all indicate discomfort.”Conrad does not suggest an aggressive policy-style interview technique , but insists that close inspection of a resume is absolutely essential. Only by asking the right questions can you confirm the suitability of the candidate or put pressure on those who are being less than completely honest.21. Coots need to be tricky because of the nunsual way the animals. Compete: One coot will put its eggs secretly into another’s nest to trick the host into raising the invader’s eggs. But nest owners use their wits to fight back, Lyon finds.Over four summers, Lyon monitored 400 coot nests near Williams Lake in central British Columbia, tagging the eggs with a marker. Of these , 160 coot nests received eggs from unrelated coots. The hosts generally were not fooled, however,. About half the time, coot parents rejected thestrange eggs completely, usually by burying them deep in the nest.“Foreign eggs were not disappearing by chance ---and that can only mean the birds were recognizing them, ”Lyon says. Apparently , the coots were alerted by the unfamiliar colors and patterns on the foreign eggs. In other cases, the parents pushed the foreign eggs to an unfavorable position at the border area of the nest, where there is less heat for hatching.Even if a mother coot didn’t remove the foreign eggs from her nest, she continued to lay a normal hatch number of her own eggs, despite theapparent extra foreign eggs. Lyon thinks that means the coots somehow kept a count of both their own eggs an d the suspicious ones. “That coots can distinguish their own eggs from the foreign ones is a rare but very convincing example of counting wild animal world,” the ecologistconcluded.26. The meaning of the bird’s name “coot”probably is __________.A. wonderful and amazingB. unusual and remarkableC. secret and unbelievableD. old and silly27. 广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案

广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案

广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The 2024 Guangdong University Entrance English Test - A Kid's PerspectiveHey guys! I'm Tommy, a 5th grader who just took the big university entrance English exam in Guangdong this year. My older sister is applying to colleges, so I tagged along to see what all the fuss was about. I've gotta say, that test was no joke! There were reading passages, grammar questions, and even an essay portion. I'm just a kid, but I'll do my best to break it down for you.The Reading SectionThis part had a few different reading passages about topics like science, history, and culture. The passages weren't super long, but they used some pretty big vocabulary words that even I had trouble with. Words like "ubiquitous" and "ephemeral" - what do those even mean?!After each passage, there were comprehension questions testing if you understood the main ideas and important details. Those weren't too bad if you read carefully. But then there were questions about the author's tone, purpose, and which statements from the passage supported certain ideas. Those inferencing questions were tricky!I had to really read between the lines and use my critical thinking skills, just like my English teacher is always reminding us. Overall, the reading section tested if you could understand academic texts at a pretty high level. I give it a solid 7/10 on the difficulty scale. The Grammar GangNext up was the grammar section - my personal nemesis! There were questions testing our knowledge of verb tenses, adjective clauses, parallel structure, and more. As an elementary student, I'm still learning a lot of those grammar rules in my own language, let alone English. Some of the questions asked us to identify the errors in sentences. For example:"The scientist who experiment was a success will present her findings."Can you spot what's wrong there? The verb "experiment" should be "experimenting" to match the subject. Tricky stuff!Other questions tested advanced grammatical concepts like the subjunctive mood (huh?!) and reduced relative clauses. I'm still fuzzy on what those even are! Let's just say the grammar part made my brain hurt. I'll give it a 9/10 difficulty rating for sure. The Unstoppable EssayJust when I thought the test couldn't get any harder, we made it to the essay portion. Could you believe they asked college applicants to write a persuasive essay analyzing a complex social issue? In English?! As if coming up with a thesis statement and supporting arguments isn't hard enough in my native language. The essay prompt was something like: "Many developed nations are experiencing a rise in political polarization and a breakdown of civil discourse. What are the underlying causes of this phenomenon and what steps can societies take to address it?"Come on, how is a 10-year-old kid supposed to intelligently discuss political polarization? That just sounds like some fancy grown-up words put together. I ended up just writing about howpeople should be nicer to each other and find common ground. Hey, it's not great, but I tried! For anyone actually taking this test to get into university, you'd better brush up on your academic writing skills. Being able to clearly express complex ideas in English with proper organization, grammar, and vocabulary is no joke. I'll give the essay a 10/10 on the uh-oh difficulty scale. The Final VerdictOverall, the 2024 Guangdong Graduate Entrance English Test was no walk in the park. It really tested your ability to understand, analyze, and produce English at a high academic level. All those reading comprehension skills, grammar rules, and essay writing techniques they drill into our heads in school? Yeah, those all came into play in a big way.As an elementary student, I may have been in over my head just a little bit. But I gave it my best shot and had fun getting a sneak peek into the life of a university applicant. You older kids out there better study hard because this test is brutal! If you put in the hard work though, you'll build the English skills to slay this exam. Then you'll be off to a great university and maybe even become fluent in English one day. Just don't forgetthe kid who struggled through a preview of the big test. Leave some snacks for me when you make it big, okay? That's all I've got, folks! This has been Tommy's 2024 Guangdong Graduate Entr ance English Test Exposé. Check your admissions booklets for the real answer keys because this kid is still a few years away from being able to solve those zingers. English tests are hard, but hopefully this gave you a kid's-eye view into what it's all about. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some grammar drills to review...篇2The 2024 Guangdong Entrance Exam for English ThingyHi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader. This year I had to take the Guangdong Entrance Exam for English Proficiency Test. That's a really long name so I'm just going to call it the English Thingy. The English Thingy was really hard! I had to study a whole bunch to get ready for it. My teacher Miss Li made us practice listening, reading, writing and speaking in English every day for months before the test. I don't really like English that much but I worked really hard because I want to go to a good middle school. On the day of the test, I was super nervous. My mom made me a special breakfast with my favorite congee and pickled radishes to help me feel better. I double and triple checked that I had enough pencils and erasers in my pencil case. I almost forgot my water bottle but my dad reminded me at the last second. Phew! The test had four sections just like Miss Li said - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I'll tell you all about each one.ListeningThe listening part was first. We had to put on these huge headphones that made my ears sweat. The recording played different conversations and passages and we had to bubble in the correct answers on a answer sheet. Some of the conversations were pretty easy, like this one:Woman: Excuse me, where is the bathroom?Man: Go down this hallway and turn right. The bathroom is the second door on your left.Woman: Thank you.The question asked where the bathroom was located. I bubbled in "second door on the left" for that one.But others were super hard and confusing. Like this one about the weather:Meteorologist: A strong cold front is approaching the region from the northwest, bringing freezing temperatures and snowfall tonight through Tuesday morning. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving conditions and power outages. Stay indoors if possible and avoid any unnecessary travel.I got super lost with all the meteorologist words like "front" and "hazardous." I probably got that one wrong.ReadingAfter listening, we moved on to the reading section. This part had longer passages that we had to read and then answer comprehension questions about them. One passage was about the history of the bicycle. That one was kind of boring but the questions were pretty easy if you read it carefully. Like "When was the first bicycle invented?" and "What were early bicycles made of?"Another reading was way more interesting - it was a story about a girl who accidentally got shrunken down to the size of an insect! She had all these adventures in her own backyard, getting chased by spiders and helping her ant friends carry crumbs. Atthe end she figured out the cure to turn back to normal size. I loved that story and the questions about it were fun.WritingThen it was time for the writing part. We had to write a short essay in English of at least 150 words. The prompt asked us to write about an experience that taught us an important lesson.I wrote about the time I overslept and missed the school bus because I was up too late playing video games the night before. I learned my lesson about time management and making sure to get enough sleep. Miss Li was always telling us to "eat AT the desk, not ON the desk" which means don't play games late at night and sleep in class! So I wrote all about that. Some kids wrote about learning lessons like being kind to others, working hard, or telling the truth. As long as you had a clear lesson and examples, you could get a good score.SpeakingFinally, the very last part was the speaking section. One at a time, we had to go into a private room with a examiner and answer some questions out loud in English. The first part was easy, they just asked stuff like "What's your name?", "How old are you?", and "What's your favorite subject in school?" Piece of cake. Then they asked me to look at a picture of a playground and describe what I saw in the picture, like the slide, swing set, trees, etc. That wasn't too bad.But the hardest part was when they gave me a situation and I had to pretend to have a conversation. My situation was that I was purchasing movie tickets and I had to ask for things like how much they cost, what time the movie started, if there were any discounts, and so on. I got pretty tongue-tied and messed up a few times. The examiner didn't seem too impressed!Whew, that's everything that was on the big English Thingy test! My brain was fried by the end of it. I really hoped I did well since I want to make it into a good middle school program. A couple weeks later I got my scores back - I passed! My writing and reading were pretty good but I struggled more on the listening and speaking parts.Oh well, I'll just have to keep studying and practicing my English skills. Maybe next year's test will be a little easier!篇3广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案第一部分:听力测试(20分)听录音,选出正确的单词。

A 13-year-old Russian, Daniil Korotkikh, was walking with his parents on a beach when he saw something glittering lying in the sand. “I saw that bottle and it looked interesting,” Korotkikh told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “It looked like a German beer bottle with a ceramic plug, and there was a message inside.” His father, who knows a little German, translated the letter. I t said: “My name is Frank, and I’m five years old. My dad and I are traveling on a ship to Denmark. If you find this letter, please write back to me, and I will write back to you.” The letter, dated 1987, included an address in the town of Coesfeld. The bo y in the letter, Frank Uesbeck, is now 29. His parents still live at the letter’s address. “At first I didn’t believe it,” Uesbeck told the AP about getting the response from Korotkikh. In fact, he barely remembered the trip at all; his father actually wrote the letter. The Russian boy said he does not believe that the bottle actually spent 24 years in the sea: “It would not have survived in the water all that time,” he said. He believed it had been hidden under the sand where he found it. In the web chat earlier this month, Uesbeck gave Korotkikh his new address to write to and promised to write back when he received his letter. “He’ll definitely get another letter from me,” the 29-year-old said. Uesbeck was especially thrilled that he was able to have a positive impact on a life of a young person far away from Germany.16. The message in the bottle was found ________years later. A. 25 B. 24 C. 29 D. 2017. The letter in the bottle was written in ________. A. Russian B. English C. French D. German18. The letter in the bottle was actually written by ________. A. Frank B. Frank, the German man gave the Russian boy his new address.C. Frank and Korotkikh have met each other through the web chat.D. It is likely that Frank and Korotkikh will arrange a meeting in person.20. That the letter is found and answered so many years later is a(n) _______ to all the people.A. surpriseB. tragedyC. gloryD. honorPassage 2Today, many people are starving to death. There is a shortage of food and the available is too expensive for hungry people to buy. Therefore, they go without food, or each day have one or two small meals lacking the necessary vitamins to maintain good health. Recently, a man who wanted to understand the conditions of such people conducted an experiment. He only ate one meal a day for a month but continued to work as he normally did. During the first five days hewas hungry at his regular meal times, but after he had drunk a glass of water his hunger went away. In the evening, when he ate his one meal, he ate quickly and consumed a large amount. During the next few days, although he was not hungry during the day, he quickly noticed every food stall, and the smell of food caught his attention. During the third and fourth weeks, he had hunger pains and lacked physical strength. He looked forward to his one meal and ate it very slowly, enjoying every bite. Without it, he knew he would have hardly enough energy to work. This experience changed his attitude about some things. Having a cup of tea was not just a pastime, it also gave him strength. He more frequently noticed overweight people and people who threw away leftover food. He realized the importance of food for the very hungry person. He could no longer easily pass by a hungry beggar on the street. But most important, he could now sympathize in a small way with the starving people of the world.21. According to the first paragraph, today the problem with many people is that _________.A. they don’t eat foodB. they are too poor to buy foodC. the food they eat lacks vitaminsD. not enough food is provided to them22. The man ate only one meal a day because _________.A. there was a serious shortage of foodB. it was an effective way of losing weightC. he wanted to know how hungry people could beD. he could not afford to have three meals a day23. At first, when he was hungry he found that a glass of water _________.A. got rid of his thirstB. could remove his hungerC. hardly produced any effectD. only made him feel hungrier24. The experiment made the man realize that ________.A. most people are just eating for funB. overweight people are wasting foodC. food has a different meaning for peopleD. leftover food shouldn’t be thrown away25. After the experiment was over, the man might have felt that ______.A. hunger is less painful once you get used to itB. a man can survive for years on only one meal a dayC. you enjoy your food more if you go hungry for a whileD. something should be done for the hungry people of the worldPassage 3A college education is not just preparation for a career, however. In addition to taking courses in their major field of study, students enroll in elective courses. They may take classes that help them understand more about people, nature, government, or the arts. Well-rounded people are likely to be better citizens, better parents and more interesting and interested individuals. Although two-thirds of American high school graduates go on to study in college, recent high school graduates no longer dominate the college campuses. Adults of all ages return to the classroom, either for new vocational skills or for personal growth. In 1966, for example, almost 20% of American college students were over age 35. Some 500,000 college students are over 50. American faith in the value of education is exemplified by the rising number of Americans who have at least a bachelor’s degree. Almost one-quarter of Americans over age 25 are college graduates. College attendance is not reserved for the wealthy and the academically talented. It is available to anyone who wants to go. Right now about 15 million students are taking advantage of the opportunity. For those not academically prepared to handle college-level work, about 80% ofundergraduate schools offer remedial (sometimes called developmental) classes in reading, writing and math. The U.S. has about 3,700 institutions of higher learning. About 1,600 of these are 2-year schools. More than 2,000 are 4-year schools, many of which also have graduate programs. With so many colleges to choose from, how do prospective students find the right one for their needs? Information about schools is easy to obtain. Students can write for printed information and applications. Some schools even mail out video. Students can also use computer programs that allow them to specify particular interests and print out a list of schools that fit their description.26. Caesar Barber is going to court because he says high-fat foods at McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and KFC Corporation destroyed his health. Barber says that he ate at these restaurants four or five times a week for many years. He claims that this diet made him very overweight. According to Mr. Barber, obesity (肥胖症) gave him diabetes (糖尿病), high blood pressure, and, two heart attacks. When a reporter asked him why he ate there so often, he said, “I was single, it was quick, and I’m not a very good cook.” Barber’s lawyer, Samuel Hirsch, says that the suit has two different purposes. The first is to make fast-food restaurants offer healthier foods in smaller amounts. The suit also asks that fast foods have warning labels similar to labels on cigarettes. Mr. Hirsch says that these labels are necessary because the effects of fast foods are similar to the effects of cigarettes, alcohol, and illegal drugs such as heroin. Two others may soon join Barber’s suit. One is Frances Winn, a 57-year-old retired nurse. Ms. Winn says that she has eaten at fast-food restaurants at least twice a week since 1975. She says that this habit has cause several health problems, including high blood pressure. Isreal Bradley, 59, said eating a pound of French fries every week gave him high blood pressure and diabetes. Officials of the fast-food industry attacked the legal action. National Restaurant Association representative Katharine Kim called it ridiculous. KFC spokeswoman Amy Sherwood claimed KFC offers several kinds of foods for people who want to eat healthier. Legal expert Walter Olson agreed that the suit had little chance of success. He said that people were free to make different choices. Whether or not the suit is successful, there is no doubt that Americans have a weight problem. Medical experts say that obesity will soon be America’s number one killer. They have encouraged fast-food companies to offer healthier foods.31. Some people think that college students should take part in social practice to prepare for their future career. Other people believe that the main task for college students is to learn and therefore they shouldnot pay attention to the social practice while still in college. As far as I am concerned, I think we should learn to combine theory with practice. Truly, it is important that we should learn some knowledge in college. But it is more importantto apply what we have learned into practice. In practical work, we can not only understand the knowledge better but also get to know how to deal with different kindsof people and situations. With such experience in real life, it will be easier forus to get into the society after graduation.。
