More than twenty million people in the United States ride motorcycles.Since 2007 the number of female bikers has risen sharply. Lady Sport Riders began in 2008 in Washington. Mildhypothermia is something that most people in cold climates haveexperienced at one time or another. You feel so cold that your bodystarts to shake -- not very much, but uncontrollably. The treatment for mild hypothermia starts with getting out of the cold and, if necessary, changing into dry clothes. Drinking w arm, non-alcoholic liquids and eating something sugary can stop the shivering.Taking a warm bath or sitting by a fire or doing some exercise can also help the body warm up. These are all common-sense treatments. But treatment needs to change when people enter the moderate or severe stages of hypothermia. In that situation, their body temperature drops below thirty-five degrees Celsius. They lose the ability to think clearly. Their muscles become stiff. They might bump into things or fall over objects.Members of search-and-rescue teams will first try to prevent additional heat loss. They will place extra covering around the chest, head and neck of hypothermia victims to keep them warm.Hypothermia victims need medical help as soon as possible. Working qu ickly to get people out of the cold is important. However, hypothermia victims must be moved slowly and gently.Any rough or sudden movement can force cold blood from the arms, legs and hands deep into the warmer middle of the body. This sudden flow of cold blood can create shock, a serious condition. It can also cause an abnormal heartbeat. Members of search-and-rescue teams have a saying that hypothermia victims are not dead until they are warm and dead. The process of "rewarming" a person needs to be done slowly, in a hospital setting. An extremely low body temperature can cause the heart to beat so slowly that a pulse may be difficult to find. In other words, a person who is suffering from the effects of severe cold may seem dead, but still be alive.6. According to the text, when a person experience mild hypothermia,________.A.He feels cold so he shakes deliberately.B.He can drink some wine to stop the shaking.C.Some common treatments can help him recover.D.He should be sent to the hospital immediately.7. Which of the following expression can take the place of the underlined words?A.break intoB. knock intoC. break downD. sweep up8. When people enter the moderate or severe stages of hypothermia, which of the followingstatement is WRONG? _________A.Their body temperature drops below 35℃.B.The rescue workers should first help them warm slowly and gently in a proper situation.C.Hypothermia victims seem alive but dead.D.If hypothermia isn’t treated correctly, the victim’s heart may not beat normally.9. What’s the best title for the text? _________.A.Different kinds of hypothermiaB.Medical help is important in treating hypothermiaC.Emergency treatment for different types of hypothermia.D.How to avoid cold-weather injuries.CAccording to a new research, carried out by Brigham Young University (BYU) undergraduate student Alex Jensen and his faculty mentor(导师), Laura, Walker, there is a direct link between the use of video games by young adults and their poor relationships with parents and friends. The study and its results were published in the latest issues of “Journal of Youth and Adolescence”. For their study researchers gathered information from 813 college students throughout the country. They noticed that the more time young adults play video games the poorer was the quality of their relationships with friends and family.“It may be that young adults remove themselves from important social settings to play video games, or that people who already struggle with relationships are trying to find other ways to spend their time.” Walker said.College students involved in the study had to report about the amount of time they spend playing video games. At the same time they were interviewed about the quality of their relationships with peers and family. In particular they answered about the amount of trust, support and friendliness they share with their friends and family.Still, the researchers mention that the connection they found is pretty modest, thus playing video games does not mean the end of relationships. “The most striking part is that everything we found about video game use is negative,” said Walker. In addition, statistical analyses showed that the young adults who spend time playing video games are more likely to get involved in risky activities such as drinking and drug abuse. Besides, those who play video games each day were reported to smoke pot(毒品) about 2 times as often as young adults who play video games occasionally and almost 3 times as often as youngsters who don’t play.Researchers also found that young women had lower self-esteem if they spent a lot of time playing video games. They also look forward to analyzing the impact(影响) of video games on young couples.10. What’s mainly talked about in this passage?A. The general analysis of video games according to the research.B. The reason causing students to play video games in their life.C. The effect of video games on youngsters’ relationship with friends and family.D. The way the students relax themselves in their free time.11. What’s the result of the study?A. Young adults have worse relationships with others when playing video games for moretime.B. Young adults prefer to spend their time in playing video games.C. Young adults have no other ways to kill time except playing video games.D. Young adults turn to video games for fun.12. What is not the finding of the study besides video games affecting youngsters’ relationshipswith family and friends?A. DrinkingB. Lower self-esteemC. Drug abuseD. DepressionDNow, we know that if we do not get enough vitamins, we are at risk of developing a number of diseases. As a result, vitamin supplements(补品),though expensive, are popular with people who worry that they are not getting enough vitamins from the foods they eat. But contrary to what many people think, medical experts have found little evidence that most supplements do anything to improve health or protect against disease. In fact, medical experts warn that taking too many of some vitamins can be harmful. For example, too much vitamin E can cause bleeding. People should discuss what vitamins they take with their doctors, as some vitamins can produce harmful side effects when mixed with medicines.Experts, however, do say that sometimes vitamins can help prevent disease. People who know they lack a particular vitamin should take vitamin supplements. Some older adults, for example, may not have enough vitamin B-twelve. This is because, as people get older, their body loses its ability to take it from foods. Also, people who spend much time inside may need some extra vitamin D as the skin makes this vitamin from sunlight.Different vitamins are found in different foods. Vitamin A is found in fish liver oil. It also is in the yellow part of eggs. Sweet potatoes, carrots and other darkly colored fruits and vegetables contain substances that the body can change into vitamin A. Vitamin B-twelve is found in green leafy vegetables and other foods, like fruits. Vitamin K can be found in pork products. In fact, for most people, a balanced diet can ensure enough of the vitamins our bodies need. So, it is important for us to eat a mixture of foods every day to ensure that we get enough vitamins our bodies need.13. Vitamin supplements are popular with people because ________.A. people mistakenly think that they are good for their healthB. they contain more vitamins than the foods people eatC. food does not provide enough vitamins people needD. people fear that a lack of vitamins will lead to disease14. From the passage, we can learn that medical experts advise people _________.A. never to take any vitamin supplementsB. to depend only on food for their vitaminsC. not to take any vitamins together with medicinesD. to consult doctors before taking vitamin supplements15. What would be the best title of the passage?A. Getting enough vitamins through a balanced diet.B. Vitamin supplements do harm to our health.C. Vitamins are important to our health.D. Lacking vitamins can cause many diseases.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

But, as we can’t drink seawater, how can it be important?Every part of our seas and oceans contains an amazing number of animals and fish that live at different ocean depths. Most of the different species of animals and fish depend on simple plants for their food. These simple plants called algae (海藻) drift near the surface of the ocean and use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into food and oxygen. In fact, algae produce over half of the oxygen people breathe. How important seawater is!Each plant or animal in our seas and oceans is an important link in a food chain. The algae are eaten in large amounts by microscopic animals, which are in turn consumed by larger animals. These food chains are delicately balanced. The bad news about the food chains in the oceans is that they are under threat because of man. Peo ple once thought that the oceans were so big that it didn’t matter if we dumped rubbish into them or caught huge quantities of fish and whales for food. But we now know this is not true and fish stocks in the oceans have started to drop.Thankfully, the world is taking steps to protect the future of our oceans by introducing international agreements to protect marine habitats. Most countries have introduced fishing restrictions to protect fish stocks in the oceans and new techniques are being pioneered to cope with pollution. Finally, the importance of protecting oceans is being made known to more people. This is just the beginning of a long process to protect the oceans for our future. Many overseas Chinese are embarrassed when foreigners ask them if all Chinese talk loudly and spit everywhere. The poor behavior of some Chinese has done great harm to our reputation for having good manners. China has become an important corner of the global village. We have to understand and respect others’ cultures. We know that it is easier to fall into bad manners than to get into good ones and indeed there are some Chinese people who do have some bad manners, but I firmly believe that we can do something about it. So before you go on your next overseas trip, remember to learn about the culture and people there. Try to say more “Hello” and “Thank you”, and smile to people, even though you don’t know them. Unit 3 Under the sea[导语]捕鲸业是世界上古老的行业之一,它的历史发展和现状如何呢?The whaling industry is one of the oldest industries in existence. It has undergone vast changes since its beginning, primarily due to the creation of the International Whaling Commission. Commercial whaling still continues throughout the world, but the whaling quotas are restricted by the commission, thereby helping conserve the whale populations.Whaling refers to hunting whales primarily for their oil, meat and bones.Whaling dates back to prehistoric times, most prevalent in Norway and Japan. The hunt became an industry in the 1600s in the Arctic regions, mostly by the Dutch and British.American colonists started whaling in the 1700s.Nantucket whalers were the first to kill a sperm whale, and the discovery of spermaceti in the whale's head made the sperm whale one of the most highly prized catches.Whaling ships set out from New England into the Pacific for extremely long voyages to hunt down these whales.Whaling industry has been a part of a variety of countries' industries. The following countries were the earliest pioneers in the whaling industry:England,France,Germany,Iceland,Japan, the Netherlands,Norway and the American colonies (although they were not a country at the time). The following countries still practice whaling in some form or fashion:Canada,Greenland, the Grenadines,Iceland,Indonesia,Japan, the Netherlands,Norway,Russia and the United States.[词海拾贝]1.vast adj.广阔的;巨大的2.primarily ad v.首先;最初3.commission n.委员会4.commercial adj.商业的5.quota n.配额6.prevalent adj.盛行的7.sperm whale 巨头鲸;抹香鲸[问题思考]1.What helps conserve the whale populations?_______________________________________________________ 2.What made the sperm whale one of the most highly prized catches?_______________________________________________________ 答案:1.That the whaling quotas are restricted.2.The discovery of spermaceti in the whale's head.Ⅰ. 1.They have opposite views on the event.()2.Looking out of the window,I see a lot of children play and yell.()3.Father always impresses the importance of teamwork on me.()4.The depth of this river is about three metres.()5.We should pay more attention to the conservation of wildlife. AI have never traveled by plane but I would like to and I hope to have the opportunity very soon. Anyway, one can find advantages and disadvantages when traveling by plane. The most important advantage is that it is the fastest means of transport when referring to long-distance travel. One can arrive in Spain in almost two hours and a half by plane. He can't even figure out how time has passed and he has arrived at his destination. He does not have to wait three days in order to arrive in Spain by coach (长途公共汽车), which makes him feel pain in his legs and feel tired because he hasn't slept more than three hours in the last three days. Then, think about the conditions which are at our beck and call: we are attended by a beautiful hostess who will take care of us on the flight. The comfort helps us forget about the possibility of some technical problems and of an undeserved accident.Anyway, many people feel scared when it comes to flying in a plane. They say that the risks of losing your life in plane travel are higher than in car travel.Apart from this disadvantage, there are people who don't choose to travel by plane because they get altitude sickness and they think air fares are too high. One piece of advice I would like to give to people who choose to travel by plane is that they should not even think for a second about the plane crashing. Just relax, be comfortable and everything will be all right.Planes are well equipped and advanced technology tries to offer total protection to all passengers.1.From the text, we can learn that ________.A. it's a good choice to have long-distance travel by planeB. there may be a few technical problems when people travel by planeC . the author usually travels by planeD. most people feel sick the first time they take a plane2.What's the author's attitude towards plane travel?A. How to avoid the disadvantages of traveling by plane.B. The advantages and disadvantages of traveling by plane.C. The special experience of traveling by plane.D. Good advice on how to travel comfortably by plane.BGood health is the most valuable thing a person can have, but one cannot take good health for granted. It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape: eat right food, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.Proper nutrition (营养) is important for good health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind of “fuel (燃料)”. Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat. Eat plenty of foods high in protein, like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins and minerals. However, don't overeat. It is not helpful to be overweight.Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over a long period of time a little amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality (人的个性). Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you do, your body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp. Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular exercise program, you will probably increase your life-span (寿命). Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming, bicycling, running and so on are good examples. Sports are not only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting, too.If everybody were to eat the right foods, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.4.According to the passage, ________.A.we should always keep fitB.if we were healthy, we could spend our days in doing things with less sleepC.one can eat a lot to stay in good shapeD.one needn't take any exercise if he is healthy5.In order to keep good health, ________.A.we should eat a lot of sweetsB.one needs a large amount of fatC.people should eat according to the foods nutritionD.we must try to sleep now and then6.The benefits of proper exercise are as follows except that ______.A.exercise can help build up the bodyB.exercise may make you live longerC.exercise may help cure heart diseasesD.exercise can bring happiness to people7.The title of the article should be “________”.A.Eating and ExercisingB.How Vitamins Work in Man's BodyC.Staying HealthyD.Sleeping WellCToday fast food restaurants are very popular. AI began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt's house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then.I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving and never to come back was hardly in my head then. The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism(乐观), but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other.I was often sad,and saw no end to “the hard times”.My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with Immigration officers(移民局官员), took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives. From my experiences I have learned one important rule:Almost all common troubles go away at last! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! Now more and more women are taking the front seat. More than twenty million people in the United States ride motorcycles.Since 1998 the number of female bikers has risen sharply. Lady Sport Riders began in 1999 in Washington. The women formed the organization to share their love of motorcycle riding. But later it wanted to be more than just an organization for women to gather and ride motorcycles, so it started to organize events that help national health organizations and women’s shelters. People once thought that the oceans were so big that it didn’t matter if we dumped rubbish into them or caught huge quantities of fish and whales for food. We depend on the oceans for fish which are an important part of the human diet. How important seawater is!61. Which of the following is the proper order of the food chain?A. small animals→algae→microscopic animals→large animals→manB. algae→microscopic animals→large animals→larger animals→manC. small animals→algae→large animals→microscopic animals→manD. microscopic animals→algae→large animals →larger animals→man62. People used to think that the rubbish thrown into the sea ________.A. wouldn’t harm the fish in the seaB. would change the balance of the food chainC. would be broken down in the seaD. wouldn’t do much harm to the sea63. From the passage, we learn that _________.A. most fish and sea animals live at the surface of the seasB. it is very difficult to break the balance of a food chainC. excessive fishing has caused the decrease in fish stockD. it won’t be long before the problems concerning oceans will be solved64. Which of the following is NOT a way being used to protect oceans?A. The use of international agreements.B. Forbidding fishing to protect fish stocks.C. The use of new techniques.D. So, it is important for us to eat a mixture of foods every day to ensure that we get enough vitamins our bodies need.71. What is probably talked about before this passage?A. How many vitamins a person’s body needs.B. How many vitamins some foods contain.C. The benefits that vitamins bring to our health.D. What people should do to stay healthy.72. Vitamin supplements are popular with people because ________.A. people mistakenly think that they are good for their healthB. they contain more vitamins than the foods people eatC. food does not provide enough vitamins people needD. people fear that a lack of vitamins will lead to disease73. From the passage, we can learn that medical experts advise people _________.A. never to take any vitamin supplementsB. to depend only on food for their vitaminsC. not to take any vitamins together with medicinesD. to consult doctors before taking vitamin supplements74. For people who lack Vitamin B-twelve, they can eat more from _______.A. sweet potatoesB. pork productsC. green leafy vegetablesD. eggs75. What would be the best title of the passage?A. Getting enough vitamins through a balanced diet.B. Vitamin supplements do harm to our health.C. Vitamins are important to our health.D. 一、阅读理解(共7小题;每小题2分,满分14分)AThere are many dangerous sea creatures in the world. The following are someexamples. The needlefish are commonly seen living near the surface of tropical (热带的) waters. But they can also break cover the water, and once in the air they can become dangerous flying swords. Though it is rare, people have been seriously hurt and even killed by the fish. Night fishermen in small boats are at particular risk because theirlights may attract the fish.Saltwater crocodiles are the world's largest crocodiles ,sometimes reaching 23 feet in length and topping 2,200 pounds. Yet these crocodiles hunt quietly ,lying in wait below shoreline waters to attack turtles and thirsty animals that have come to drink.Saltwater crocodiles kill a number of people each year. There is no doubt that the great white shark sits atop the ocean food chain. The world's largest fish can weigh at over 5,000 pounds and reach lengths of more than 20feet. Great white sharks have about 3,000 teeth ,which they typically sink into sea lions ,seals ,and sea turtles. These sharks are responsible for a third to a half of the 100shark attacks on humans every year. The sea anemone (海葵) may look like the beautiful flower for which it's named ,but fish that swim too close may regret it. The sea anemone ,which lives on the sea floor ,uses its poisonous tentacles (触须) to stab passing creatures with a kind of poison —making them helpless and fit to be eaten.此卷只装订不密封班级 姓名 准考证号 考场号 座位号The surgeonfish (刺尾鱼) is an attractive reef fish that is poisonous. BThere is a huge demand for shark fins (鳍) in Asian countries. As a result, many sharks are caught and killed. In Palau, where more than half of tourists are drawn by diving excursions, each reef shark brings in about $179,000 in tourism revenue annually, or about $1.9 million during its lifetime. Due to overexploitation and lack of proper management, many shark species are under considerable risk of unrecoverable decline with some species having declined to near extinction in recent years. According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273 million worldwide per year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate many shark species will be lost forever. It can be very dangerous. Sharks are very important and they should be protected. In a study of the east coast of the United States, 11 species of sharks were eliminated from their range. Of the 14 species of ocean life that those sharks used to eat, the populations of 12 exploded and caused great damage to the ecosystem. For example, the cownose ray (鳐) population was no longer kept under control by sharks and so grew out of control. As a result, the rays destroyed the population of bay scallops (扇贝), their favorite food. The scallop fishery, which had been in good condition for over 100 years, was wiped out. Also, the removal of the scallops most likely had an effect on water quality as they were no longer there to perform their function of cleaning the water.Sharks play a vital role in the oceans in a way that the average fish does not. Most sharks serve as top predators at the pinnacle of the marine food pyramid, and so play a critical role in ocean ecosystems. Directly or indirectly they regulate the natural balance of these ecosystems. Sharks tend to eat very efficiently, going after the old, sick, or slower fish in a population, keeping that population healthy. Sharks help keep many populations of ocean life to the right size so that those prey (猎物) species don’t cause harm to the ecosystem by becoming too populated. The ocean ecosystem is made up of very complex food webs. For the most part, sharks are at the top of these webs and are considered by scientists to be "keystone" species, meaning that removing them may cause the whole structure to fall apart, including key fisheries such as tuna and other important fish species that maintain the health of coral reefs. Therefore, we should protect sharks because doing so is to protect the whole ecosystem.5. The underlined word "eliminated" in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by "________".A. separatedB. removedC. forbiddenD. protected6. After the number of cownose rays greatly increased, ________.A. water quality improved as wellB. bay scallops grew out of controlC. the health of coral reefs worsenedD. the local scallop fishery was harmed7. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. Why sharks are killed worldwide.B. Why sharks should be protected.C. How humans keep the ecosystem balanced.D. How ocean life affects the ecosystem.【答案】5-7 BDB【解析】本文为说明文。
