Now they’ve gone and we’ve won!’ he said.‘But they’ve left their huge wooden horse outside the main gates,’the soldier said.‘Well, it was too big for them to take away. Pull it into the city now. It’s on wheels,’the captain ordered. And so the Trojans dragged it into the city with ropes.That night, all the citizens of Troy celebrated. They sang and danced around the horse and made jokes about the stupid Greeks. Then they locked all the gates of the city and all went to sleep, including the gate guards.By midnight, the square was empty, except for the giant horse. The sixGreek soldiers in the wooden horse waited for another hour, to be sure. Then they opened the secret door inside the horse and climbed out very quietly. They opened the main gates. Outside stood the Greek army.The army entered the city, seized the captain and dragged him away. For ten years, the Greek could not capture the city of Troy by fighting. Archimedes got in the bath and some water came out of it, onto the floor.‘That’s it!’ shouted Archimedes. ‘Some of the water will move out when we put an object in water. The object displaces the water. A big object will displace a lot of water. A small object will displace a little water.’How excited Archimedes was!Archimedes went to the palace to weigh the crown. It weighted only one kilogram. He put the crown in a pot of water. Five centimetres of watercame out. Then he put one kilogram of gold in another pot of water. Three centimetres of water came out of this pot. Archimedes said King Hiero, ‘Silver made the crown bigger. The crown displaced more water so it is not made completely of gold.
