There were rooms full of glittering crystals and gemstones in every color you can imagine. My favorites were the amethyst geodes - they looked like hollowed out purple crystals! We learned that gems form deep underground over millions of years from molten rock and intense heat and pressure. Some of them were over a billion years old. A billion years!
