After their high school lives, they were having trouble finding things to do in their free time in the university. When I asked them to talk about their high school lives, many of them told me they got up at six in the morning and studied until ten at night. Most of this time was spent at school, doing a lot amount of homework to help them prepare for the universityentrance exams. Once they entered the university, in my opinion, the students should not spend all their time studying. they should also take part in some after-school activities. So they should learn to make plans for their time outside of the class between sports and clubs. What’s more, they should spend some time watching TV and chatting with their roommates. These activities are useful in helping them prepare for their future. But what made me most surprised was that many of them did not seem particularly happy about their new freedom. As they had so many choices, they felt that no matter what they were doing, they should be doing something else. That’s why they were not happy. To those students, my advice was, get used to it and learn to make decisions for yourselves.训练题(三)1.Which lady is your new English teacher?2. The visitors might think that the Indian did not like what they said. But, in fact, they would be completely wrong.Indians always shake their heads when they talk to others. If someone wants to visit India, he would say, he should know this, or it will give him some trouble. One day, a foreign officer went to India on business. He hired a car and an Indian to drive it. When he told his driver to send him to his office, the Indian shook his head again. At last, the office got angry.“How dare you refuse my order?” he shouted. “Drive me to my office at once!”The driver answered in quite loud voice, too. “Yes, sir!” But to the officer’s surprise, the driver shook his head at the same time. The car started, and the foreign officer was now too surprised to say a word. INDIVIDUAL BROCHURESBChuck Wall teaches management and human relations atBakersfieldCollege. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform one act of random(任意的) kindness. His students did not understand the homework and didn’t know what to do, but the professor would not answer their questions. He encouraged his students to work it out for themselves. One week later, the students entered the classroom excited to share their stories. One student told of giving away blankets to the homeless. Another reported on helping a dog to find its owner, and another student had been trying to find a long, lost friend. Students were energized (给予活力) by the homework assignment and wanted other people to be kind too. With the support of local businesses, the students made stickers to put on cars that invited people to do something kind for others. They sold the stickers and decided to donate the money to a center for the blind---not surprising as Professor Wall is blind.Since then, similar kindness activities have been started in schools around the world.
