正所谓工欲善其事，必先利其器！电影开始镜头就是母亲为他面试做准备并为他佩戴领带穿上正装，即使一坡一拐无法站直一只手歪斜的背在身后的形象，看似显得滑稽但同时也说明了比尔和他的母亲对于这件事的重视还有坚持善良的品质，在第一次被拒绝出门的卡尔在看到了母亲的激励后，再一次返回去让人力量迸发也不免惊叹并且成功打动了老板获得了这一份工作，在为庆祝比尔找到工作并赚到了第一桶金的餐桌上，交给了比尔他父亲的怀表并且讲了他父亲的事迹激励他像他优秀的推销员父亲学习，母亲对于邻桌的嘲讽进行礼貌而又强硬的反击，和对于卡尔的鼓励都是一点一滴的教育，可同时也让人们更加担忧这样的一个形象并且口齿不清，能不能继续胜任“推销员”这样一份工作，也为下面必然会遇到下一个的挫折和困难埋下了伏笔。

主人公的妈妈真是一个伟大的母亲，把一个从小患重病的人抚养长大已经是了不起了，还为主人公的学业和工作而奔波求人。
主人公也很争气，很有天赋，没让母亲失望，支持他永不放弃的一点就是爸爸这个榜样，妈妈总是给他一些卡片，上面写着爸爸以前说过的激励人的话语。
但最后主人公发现，其实这都是妈妈自己的话，每个男孩都把自己的父亲当成榜样来学习，这一点妈妈做的很好。
说结局美好是因为主人公长大了，成功了，不需要妈妈为他做每一件事情了。
