一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Suppose you become a leader in an organization. It's very likely that you'll want to have volunteers to help with the organization's activities. To do so, it should help to understand why people undertake volunteer work and what keeps their interest in the work.Let's begin with the question of why people volunteer. Researchers have identified several factors that motivate people to get involved. For example, people volunteer to express personal values related to unselfishness, to expand their range of experiences, and to strengthen social relationships. If volunteer positions do not meet these needs, people may not wish to participate. To select volunteers, you may need to understand the motivations of the people you wish to attract.People also volunteer because they are required to do so. To increase levels of community service, some schools have launched compulsory volunteer programs. Unfortunately, these programs can shift people's wish of participation from an internal factor (e.g. "I volunteer because it's important to me") to an external factor (e.g. "I volunteer because I'm required to do so"). When that happens, people become less likely to volunteer in the future. People must be sensitive to this possibility when they make volunteer activities a must.Once people begin to volunteer, what leads them to remain in their positions over time? To answer this question, researchers have conducted follow-up studies in which they track volunteers over time. For instance, one study followed 238 volunteers in Florida over a year. One of the most important factors that influenced their satisfaction as volunteers was the amount of suffering they experienced in their volunteer positions. Although this result may not surprise you, it leads to important practical advice. The researchers note that attention should be given to "training methods that would prepare volunteers for troublesome situations or provide them with strategies for coping with the problem they do experience".Another study of 302 volunteers at hospitals in Chicago focused on individual differences in the degree to which people view "volunteer" as an important social role. It was assumed that those people for whom the role of volunteer was most part of their personal identity would also be most likely to continue volunteer work. Participants indicated the degree to which the social role mattered by responding to statements such as "Volunteering in Hospital is an important part of who I am." Consistent with the researchers' expectations, they found a positive correlation(正相关) between the strength of role identity and the length of time people continued to volunteer. These results, once again, lead to concrete advice: "Once an individual begins volunteering, continued efforts might focus on developing a volunteer role identity....Items like T-shirts that allow volunteers to be recognized publicly for their contributions can help strengthen role identity".(1)People volunteer mainly out of __________.A. academic requirementsB. social expectationsC. financial rewardsD. internal needs(2)What can we learn from the Florida study?A.Follow-up studies should last for one year.B.Volunteers should get mentally prepared.C.Strategy training is a must in research.D.Volunteers are provided with concrete advice.(3)What is most likely to motivate volunteers to continue their work?A.Individual differences in role identity.B.Publicly identifiable volunteer T-shirts.C.Role identity as a volunteer.D.Practical advice from researchers.(4)What is the best title of the passage?A.How to Get People to VolunteerB.How to Study Volunteer BehaviorsC.How to Keep Volunteers' InterestD.How to Organize Volunteer Activities【答案】(1)D(2)B(3)C(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了怎样让人们去做志愿者的一些方法。

2020-2021高考英语阅读理解(大题培优)及详细答案

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解City trees grow faster and die younger than trees in rural forestry, a new study finds. Over their lifetimes, then, urban trees will likely absorb less CO2 from the air thah forest trees. As we all know, the earth would be freezing or burning hot without CO2. However, CO2is a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps energy from the sun as/heat. That makes temperatures near the ground rise. Human activities, especially the widespread burning-of fossil(化石)fuels, have been sending extra greenhouse gases into the air. This has led to a rise in average temperatures across the globe.Studies had shown forests readily absorb CO2, but there hadn't been much data on whether city trees grow, die and absorb CO2at the same rate as forest trees do. So some researchers decided to find out.To figure out how quickly trees were growing, researchers tracked their diameters (the width of their trunks) between 2005 and 2014. A tree's diameter increases as it grows, just as a person's waist size increases as they gain weight. About half the weight of a tree is carbon, research has shown. Most of the rest is water. Over the nine years' tracking, the researchers found city trees absorbed four times as much carbon from the air as forest trees. However, they were twice as likely to die. So over the lifetime of each type of tree, forest trees actually absorbed more CO2.City trees grew faster because they had less competition for light from their neighbors. In a forest, trees tend to grow close together, shading their neighbors. Street trees also benefit from higher levels of nitrogen (氮)in rainwater. Nitrogen helps plants grow. Waste gases from gas-burning cars also contain nitrogen, thus enriching city air with nitrogen. Later, rainwater may wash much of it to the ground. Some street trees may also have better access to water than trees in the country because the underground water pipes can leak.(1)What can he known about CO2 from paragraph 2?A. It is one of the side effects of greenhouses.B. It greatly accelerates the process of global warming.C. It results from the widespread burning of fossil fuels.D. It prevents the earth from becoming unsuitable to live on.(2)Why did researchers track the diameters of trees?A. To know about their growth rates.B. To find out how much they weigh.C. To check whether they were healthy.D. To assess the carbon amounts in them.(3)What advantage do city trees have over forest trees?A. They are more likely to access growth promoters.B. They can enjoy more water coming from the air.C. They can enjoy more shade from neighbors.D. They are better at competing for light.(4)What will probably be talked about if the passage is continued?A. How urban trees can live longer.B. Why city living makes trees die young.C. How trees respond to dry soil conditions.D.

A new scientific survey has found that the glaciers of the Arctic are the world’s biggest contributors to rising seas, shedding ice at an accelerating rate that now adds well over a millimeter to the level of the ocean every year. That is considerably more ice melt than Antarctica is contributing, even though the Antarctic contains far more ice. Still, driven by glacier clusters in Alaska, Canada and Russia and the vast ice sheet of Greenland, the fast-warming Arctic is outstrip ping the entire ice continent to the south---for now. However, the biggest problem is that both ice regions appear to be accelerating their losses simultaneously-suggesting that we could be in for an even faster rate of sea-level rise in future decades. Seas are rising by about three millimeters each year, according to NASA. That’s mainly driven by the Arctic contribution, the Antarctic and a third major factor- that ocean water naturally expands as it warns. For Arctic ice loss, "the rate has tripled since 1986, " said Jason Box, first author of the new study and a scientist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. "So it clearly shows an acceleration of the sea-level contrib ution.”“Antarctica will probably take over at some point in the future, but during the past 47 years of this study, it's not controversial that the arctic is the largest contribution of land ice to sea-level rise. ” he said.Scientists in the United States, Chile, Canada, Norway and the Netherlands contributed to the work, published in EnvironmentalResearch Letters. The Arctic is also losing floating sea ice at a rapid pace, but that loss does not contribute substantially to rising seas( though it has many other consequences). Sea ice losses closely match what is happening on land, which makes sense because both phenomena are being driven by the fast warming of the atmosphere in the Arctic, which has heated up at a rate much faster than seen in lower latitudes. Warming seas are also driving some of the ice loss. The research was performed by merging a highly reliable gravity-based measurement of Arctic mass loss from NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) satellites with older direct ice measurements, taken from the field, going back to 1971.The total Arctic loss at present is 447 billion tons of ice per year- which Box calculated is about 14,000 tons of water per second. That's for the period between 2005 and 2015. Between 1986 and 2005, the loss is calculated at around 5,000 tons per second--therefore, the rate has almost tripled.Separate research has recently found that the Antarctic's loss rate has also tripled in just a decade, reaching 219 billion tons per year from 2012 to 2017.Assuming these numbers are correct and summing them together, the worlds polar regions are losing about 666 billion tons of ice to the ocean each year-amounting to a little bit less than two millimeters of sea-level rise annually.1. What's the main immediate cause of the sea level rising according to the article ?A. Glaciers' melting of the ArcticB. Glaciers' melting of AntarcticaC. Global warming and carbon emissionD. Sea ice losses in the polar regions2. Which is NOT the main factor of sea level rising by about three millimeters each year ?A. The Arctic ice melting.B. The Antarctic ice meltingC. Floating sea ice meltingD. Ocean water itself when warming up3. Which of the following statements is WRONG according to the passage?A. Antarctic contains far more ice but has less ice melt than ArcticB. We will see an even faster rate of sea-level rise in future decadesC Arctic is the largest contribution of land ice to sea-level rise.D the Antarctic's loss rate has tripled from 2012 to 20174. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解When he was young, Louis Armstrong was taking what was called “Creole jazz”, which was also called dance music, and combining it with trumpeter (小号手) Buddy Bolden, to create what would eventually become today's jazz.Armstrong accomplished that with almost no formal training. He received little training before he was placed in the New Orleans Colored Waif's Home at the age of 12, after a run-in (小争执) with the police. The punishment turned out to be a mixed blessing, for he also had the opportunity to play in a real band. While at the Waif's, Armstrong also got the chance to hear some of the city's finest musicians. Cornetist Freddie Keppard performed in a nearby club. So did trumpeter and bandleader, King Joe Oliver, who took the boy under his wing and taught him how to read music and work on his playing technique. When Oliver left for Chicago, Armstrong chose to stay in New Orleans and work with some of the other top musicians of the day. In Chicago, King Oliver offered him a place in his band in 1922. It became Armstrong's biggest challenge yet — the band had no parts written for trumpet, so he was forced to listen to King Oliver and improvise (即兴创作).Soon, Armstrong's undeniable talent was getting notice. Even classically trained musicians would come to hear the incredible sounds this young man created.Lil Hardin, the bands piano player and the future Mrs. Armstrong, explains that Oliver kept Armstrong in the second trumpet-chair so that Oliver would still be “King”. Hardin convinced him to leave the band.Armstrong moved to New York City in 1924 to join Fletcher Henderson's band and then flew solo. In 1925, Armstrong put together the Hot Five, expanding his popularity even more. Armstrong recorded his first composition, Cornet Chop Suey, one of the most copied jazz solos of all time. This monumental 1928 recording blends (混合) artistry, endurance and showmanship that has rarely, if ever, been matched in Jazz.(1)What does the underlined word “that” refer to in the second paragraph?A. To play dance music.B. To work with Buddy Bolden.C. To create modem jazz music.D. To play a jazz instrument well.(2)Who taught Louis Armstrong how to play music in the early time?A. Buddy Bolden.B. Lil Hardin.C. Cornetist Freddie Keppard.D. King Joe Oliver.(3)Why did Louis Armstrong Leave King Oliver's band?A. Because he wanted to get married in New York.B. Because the man forced him to leave the band.C. Because he got a better opportunity in New York.D. Because his talent could not develop completely.(4)What's the main idea of the passage?A. It asks readers to know more about modern jazz.B. It introduces one of the greatest jazz musicians.C. It introduces the development of jazz.D. It describes the importance of talent in playing jazz.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)D(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,介绍了音乐人Louis Armstrong学习音乐的过程。

It allows you to see what has led you here and, hopefully, how society has changed and improved.Take, for instance, my career goal. First, I wanted, in 1999, to be a “farmer”,soon archaeologist, then driving instructor and somewhere along the way, footballer.I had grown up in a footballloving family. I remember the exact moment when I said “I'm sad I can't be a footballer” while watching the game with Dad as a preteen. He asked why not. “Because I'm not a boy.” He immediately responded, “You can, if you want to.”“Yeah, I suppose so,” I sighed, “but no one watches women's football.”Looking back, I can see exactly why I felt like that. At school, there was an unwritten rule that sports like hockey and netball were“girl” sports and rugby and football were for the boys. I'd never seen a women's football match on TV. You see, you can't be what you can't see, and lack of representation leads, at best, to misunderstanding, and at worst, fear and negative opinions.Today, the Lionesses took on Scotland in the World Cup, and people across the world tuned in. But, although women's football is one of FIFA's best investments, the majority of female players are earning under a fair wage. Some argue that that's because viewing statistics are lower than those of men's, but the rise in support shows the demand is there. Hopefully, more investment will push female football forward.Today, I'll be cheering on the Lionesses, because it'll mean talented, skillful female footballers being broadcast into millions of homes and maybe, just maybe, a little girl believing that she can also be a Lioness one day.4.Which of the following best describes the author's career goals?A.Realistic. B.Changeable.C.Consistent. But those hardcover books can be heavy, and new ones aren't cheap, either. Sometimes, you'd just rather have a portable paperback — but if it's a new book you're after, you might have to wait a full year or so to get it in paperback form. Why are books released as hardcovers first? Not so long ago, hardcover books were the only type of books. Before the appearance of mass production, print runs were limited, and books were hardbound and expensive. Around the 1930s, that changed with the production of massproduced paperback books, which agreed with a huge surge in reading as a leisure activity around World War II. Paperback books were more affordable and cheaper to produce, which still holds true today.Despite the seeming advantages of paperbacks, there are several reasons why the hardcover has persisted (持续存在). Because of its history, it conveys a bit more legitimacy (正统性) in the book world than the paperback does. “The hardback is a mark of quality... it shows booksellers and reviewers that this is a book worth paying attention to,” Philip Jones, editor at The Bookseller, explains to The Guardian. But the major reason why books come out as hardcovers is that people buy them, despite their higher cost. The Economist compares it to movies being released in theaters several months before they arrive on DVD. “Just as film fans like to see films on the big screen, collectors enjoy the hardcover's superior quality ,” according to The Economist. And because they're profitable, publishers can gain more from hardcovers, which “will often sell at twice the price of their paperback equivalent (对应物)but do not cost twice as much to produce,” Jones explains.8.What can we learn about hardcover books from Paragraph 1?A.They appeal to real booklovers.B.They are heavy but not expensive.C.They take a long time to come out.D.They are not preferred by booklovers.9.What does the underlined word “surge” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Drop. B.Success.C.Blow. D.Increase.10.Why are hardcover books still printed today?A.They are brilliantly edited.B.They are worth collecting.C.They convey correct information.D.They sell better than paperbacks.11.What is the main purpose of the passage?A.To introduce hardcover books.B.To present a new social finding.C.To explain a confusing problem.D.To encourage people to read books.D[2021•南昌市一模]A joint research team recently have developed a new electronic skin that is similar to human skin in strength, durability (耐久性)and sensitivity. The skin or eskin may play an important role in nextgeneration personalized medicine, soft robotics and artificial intelligence.“The ideal eskin will mimic (模仿) the many natural functions of human skin, such as sensing temperatureand the touch, accurately and in real time,” says leading researcher Yichen Cai. However, making suitably flexible electronics that can perform such delicate tasks while also used repeatedly is challenging, and each material involved must be carefully engineered. Most eskins are made by putting an active sensor on the surface that attaches to human skin. However, the connection between them is often too weak, which reduces the durability and sensitivity of the material; otherwise, if it is too strong, it won't be flexible enough, making it more likely to break the circuit.“The landscape of skin electronics keeps shifting at a remarkable pace ,” says Cai. “The discovery of 2D sensors has accelerated efforts to turn these quite thin but strong materials into functional, durable artificial skins.”The new manmade skin built by the researchers could sense objects from 20 centimeters away. It could further make a quick response when touched in less than one tenth of a second. “It is a striking achievement for an eskin to maintain toughness after repeated use ,” said Jie Shen, the colleague of Cai, “which mimics the softness and rapid recovery of human skin.”This type of eskin could monitor a range of biological information, such as changes in blood pressure, which can be detected from movements of arms and legs. This data can then be shared and stored on the cloud via WiFi.“One remaining problem to the widespread use of eskins lies in mass production of highresolution sensors ,adds group leader Vincent Tung. “However, the latest technology offers new promise.”12.What's the feature of the new eskin?A.It can store information. B.It's quite hard and tough.C.It's flexible and sensitive.D.It can replace human skin.13.Why does the author mention “Most eskins ” in Paragraph 3?A.To stress the challenges of making eskin.B.To introduce the popularity of eskins.C.To show the process of making eskins.D.To compare the similarities between eskins. 14.What can the new eskin do?A.Adjust the blood pressure. B.Recover the wounded skin.C.Work as a remote controller. 霉霉的演唱会究竟引发了何种外交角力?“演唱会经济”兴起的背后,又是怎样的时代情绪?Singapore Has Taylor Swift to Itself This Week, and the Neighbors Are Complainingby Mike Ives, Muktita Suhartono and Camille Elemia Taylor Swift has descended on Southeast Asia, or one small part of it at least: All of her six sold-out shows are in Singapore, the region's wealthiest nation. The Singapore leg of Ms. Swift’s wildly popular Eras Tour, which began last weekend and ends on Saturday, is a soft power coup and a boost for the country’s post-pandemic economic recovery. The shows — and the undisclosed price that Singapore paid to host them — have also generated diplomatic tension with two of its neighbors, Thailand and the Philippines.Last month, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Thailand said publicly that Singapore had paid Ms. Swift up to $3 million per show on the condition that she play nowhere else in Southeast Asia. A lawmaker in the Philippines later said that was not "what good neighbors do."Singapore pushed back. First its culture minister said the actual value of the exclusivity deal — which he declined to name — was "nowhere as high." The country's former ambassador at large later called the criticism "sour grapes."An exclusivity deal around a concert, a kind of noncompete agreement known as a "radius clause," is standard practice in the music industry, said Susan Abramovitch at the international law firm Gowling WLG, adding that the scope of the Singapore deal was a kind of "Taylor-esque magnification" of the industry standard.【词汇过关】请写出下面文单词在文章中的中文意思。

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Artificial intelligence can predict when patients with a heart disorder will die, according to scientists. The software learned to analyze blood tests and scans of beating hearts to spot signs that the organ was about to fail. The team, from the UK's Medical Research Council, said the technology could save lives by finding patients that need more aggressive treatment. The results were published in the Journal of Radiology.According to the researchers, high blood pressure in the lungs damages part of the heart, and about a third of patients die within five years after being diagnosed. There are treatments: drugs, injections straight into the blood vessels, a lung transplant. But doctors need to have an idea of how long patients might have left, in order to pick the right treatment. The software was given scans of 256 patients' hearts, and blood test results. When this data was combined with eight years of patient health records, the artificial intelligence predicted when patients would die.The software could look about five years into the future. It correctly predicted those who would still be alive after one year about 80% of the time. The figure for doctors is 60%.The team now want to test the software works in other patients in different hospitals before assessing whether it should be made widely available to doctors. The researchers also want to use the technology in other forms of heart failure, such as cardiomyopathy, to see who might need a pacemaker or other forms of treatment.Dr Mike Knapton, from the British Heart Foundation, said, "This exciting use of computer software in medical practice will help doctors in the future to make sure that patients are receiving the correct treatment before the condition deteriorates and leaves them needing a lung transplant. The next step is to test this technology in more hospitals with heart disease."(1)What can artificial intelligence do according to the passage?A. Predicting how long a person with heart disease can survive.B. Helping doctors diagnose people with heart disease.C. Obeying orders and reminding heart disease patients to take pills.D. Producing medicine without side effects for heart disease patients.(2)What can we know about the software from the passage?A. It can make accurate long-term predictions.B. It has not yet been widely put into use.C. It can prevent high blood pressure in the lungs damaging part of the heart.D.

Was That a Giant Cat?Leopards Escape, and a Zoo Keeps Silent (at First).By Chris BuckleyFor a zoo to let a leopard escape is worrisome. To lose three of them and fail to warn residents for days seems something else altogether.A safari park near the city of Hangzhou is facing an onslaught of questions after it achieved that dubious feat, belatedly admitting late last week that three of its leopards had somehow absconded into the nearby hills.By Monday, searchers had found two of the big cats, and teams with dogs, drones and dart guns were looking for the third.A search for answers was also underway. The government put a senior manager of the zoo under criminal investigation, and officials promised an inquiry. Many Chinese people wondered how the Hangzhou Safari Park could lose several wildcats and hold back the news for up to a week, maybe longer. The Chinese internet has been agog with updates and discussion about the missing leopards. Many were not impressed by the park’s explanation and had questions about the government’s actions, the frantic search and the well-being of the leopards that were hunted down.“If you say you worried about triggering public panic, wouldn’t someone panic if they ran into a leopard on the city outskirts?” one person wrote on Weibo. So far, there have been no reports of injuries from the leopards, and the safari park and some experts said the shy, youngish cats were unlikely to attack people.【词汇过关】请写出下面文单词在文章中的中文意思。

高考英语阅读培优训练8篇第1篇A new scientific survey has found that the glaciers of the Arctic are the world’s biggest contributors to rising seas, shedding ice at an accelerating rate that now adds well over a millimeter to the level of the ocean every year. "So it clearly shows an acceleration of the sea-level contribution.”“Antarctica will probably take over at some point in the future, but during the past 47 years of this study, it's not controversial that the arctic is the largest contribution of land ice to sea-level rise. ” he said.Scientists in the United States, Chile, Canada, Norway and the Netherlands contributed to the work, published in Environmental Research Letters. Just when we were getting used to UItraHD4K televisions, the industry is gearing up to start pushing (still extremely pricey) upgrades to 8K sets, And talk about weird: Samsung and Apple became official frenemies by including an app for iTunes on Samsung’ s newest TVs.Walking the show floor this year, I picked these products---some practical, some downright strange---that captured the spirit of where things are headed...or at least the creativity that makes CES(消费电子展)so much fun. This is 2019’s must-have television for billionaires and wannabe James Bonds .With the tap of a button, LG’s 65-inch TV dramatically rises from a long box where it is rolled up inside. How did they do that? The screen uses plastic and OLED tech, which in addition to having fantastic image quality is also capable of bending. (Coming this year, well also be getting smartphones with foldable OLED screens. )The idea is you can place your TV in front of a window without having it block the view all the time. But with a TV like this, who wants to be inconspicuous? Go ahead and show of:LG says it can withstand being rolled up for at least 50.000 cycles.Samsung TVs will now support an app for Apple’s iTunes movies and TV shows. That means you can buy video from Apple without plugging in Apple's own streaming box, the Apple TV. And new sets from a variety of makers including Samsung and LG will also support Airplay 2, Apple’s tech for beaming music, pictures and video from iPhones and Macs to the big screen. Why is Apple suddenly playing nice with other hardware brands?
