大众汽车是大众集团（Volkswagen Group）的成员之一，其他集团公司包 括： 1）Audi（奥迪）-德国本土汽车公司，1964年从戴姆勒-奔驰公司买下； 2）NSU - 由大众的奥迪分部在1969年买下，自1977年开始就未再使用该品 牌； 3）Seat（西亚特） -西班牙汽车公司，1987年开始成为主要持有者，1990 年买下； 4）SKODA（斯柯达）- 捷克汽车公司，1991年买下； 5）Bentley（宾利） - 英国豪华汽车制造公司，于1998年从Vickers公司与 Rolls-Royce品牌同时买下，但之后由于注册商标权转移至BMW公司，因此 无法再使用Rolls-Royce品牌制造车辆； 6）Bugatti（布加迪） - 法国超级跑车制造商，在1998年时买下； 7）Lamborghini（兰博基尼） - 意大利超级跑车制造商，于1998年6月12日 买下。 从1998年7月至2002年12月之间，大众的宾利分部在BMW的授权下，也有 出售以Rolls-Royce为品牌的车辆，BMW当时已买下该品牌的所有权。从 2003年开始，仅有BMW制造的车辆能使用Rolls-Royce品牌。 Porsche（保时捷）：在2012年7月5日，德国大众汽车集团宣布：已与保时 捷达成一致，将以44.6亿欧元（约55.8亿美元）与1普通股的代价，换取保 时捷50.1%的股权。交易定于8月完成。届时，保时捷股权将全部归大众所 有。

BMW used to be a aircraft engine factory. After World War I, BMW was forced to cease aircraft (engine) production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty.
