It may not be a cure-all for obesity(肥胖),however.Though better nutrition(营养)together with exercise has long been the good treatment for losing weight and avoiding obesity, a new study suggests diet,in fact, plays the key role.Researchers compare African-American women in Chicago with women in the countries of Nigeria. On average(平均),the Chicago women weighed 184 pounds and the Nigerian women weighed 127 pounds. Researchers had expected to find that the slimmer Nigerian women would be more physically active. To their surprise, they found no important difference between the two groups in the amount of calories burned during physical activity."Less physical activity may not be the main drive of obesity. " said Richard Cooper, a member of the study team. "People burn more calories when they exercise. The thing is, they make up by eating more. We would love to say that physical activity has a positive effect on weight control, but that does not appear to be the case. "Diet is a more likely explanation than physical activity expenditure(消耗)for why Chicago women weigh more than Nigerian women, Cooper said. She noted the Nigerian diet is low in fat and animal protein(动物蛋白).Lout the Chicago diet is 40 percent to 45 percent in fat.More research seems to be needed, however, as the new finding is different from other studies. Part I Reading Comprehension (共20小题,每小题2分,共40分)Directions: In this part there are four passages. Each passage is followed by four comprehension questions. Read the passage and answer the questions. Then mark your answer on the Answer Sheet.Passage OneQuestions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage:Animals react to the changing seasons with changes in mood and behavior and human beings are no exception. Most people find they eat and sleep slightly more in winter and dislike the dark mornings and short days. For some, however, symptoms (症状) are severe enough to damage their lives and to cause considerable stress. These people are suffering from SAD. The symptoms tend to start from around September each year lasting until April, but are at their worst in the darkest months. The standard figure says that around 2% of people in Northern Europe suffer badly, with many more (10%) putting up with milder symptoms. Across the world the incidence (发生率) increases with distance from the equator (赤道), except where there is snow on the ground, when it becomes less common. More women than men are found having SAD. Children and young people can also suffer from it.The problem stems from the lack of bright light in winter. Researchers have proved that bright light makes a difference to the brain chemistry, although the exact means by which sufferers are affected is not yet known. As the cause is lack of bright light, the treatment is to be in bright light every day by using a lightbox or a similar bright treatment. (Going to a brightly-lit climate, whether skiing or somewhere hot, is indeed a cure). The preferred levelof light is about as bright as a spring morning on a clear day and for most people sitting in front of a lightbox, allowing the light to reach the eyes, for between 15 and 45 minutes daily will be sufficient to alleviate the symptoms. The user does not have to stare at the light, but can watch TV or read a book, just allowing the light to reach the eyes. OUTSIDE IN have a complete range of suitable lights, all in line with the research findings from medical and academic facilities. They are all available on our pioneering HOME TRIAL SYSTEM.1. What happens to SAD patients, according to the passage?A、They eat more and sleep less.B、They are cheerless and worried.C、They react to the changing seasons.D、They dislike long days with dark mornings.2. In which month do SAD symptoms become worst?A、December.B、September.C、April.D、February.3. Which of the following statements is false according to the passage?A、Going skiing is one of the good cures for SAD.B、The percentage of SAD sufferers is high in North Europe.C、Doctors now know how lack of bright light causes SAD.D、People of all ages and both sexes may suffer from SAD.4. What does the word “alleviate” (Paragraph 4) most probably mean?A、“cause”B、“produce”C、“show”D、“reduce”5. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?A、Why people suffer from SAD.B、How SAD patients can be treated.C、How long an SAD treatment lasts.D、Where people can go for SAD treatment.Passage TwoQuestions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage:Increasingly, over the past ten years, people – especially young people – have become aware of the need to change their eating habits, because much of the food they eat, particularly processed foods, is not good for the health. Consequently, there has been a growing interest in natural foods.Natural foods, for example, are vegetable, fruit and grain which have been grown in soil that is rich in organic (有机的) matter, in simple terms, this means that the soil has been nourished (滋养) by unused vegetable matter, which provides it with essential vitamins (维生素) and minerals. This in itself is a natural processcompared with the use of chemicals and fertilizers, the main purpose of which is to increase the quantity – but not the quality – of foods grown in commercial farming areas.Natural foods also include animals which have been allowed to feed and move freely in healthy farms. Compare this with what happens in the mass production of poultry: there are battery farms, for example, where thousands of chickens live crowded together in one building and are fed on food which is little better than rubbish. Chickens kept in this way are not only tasteless as food; they also produce eggs which lack important vitamins. There are other aspects of healthy eating which are now receiving increasing attention from experts on diet. Take, for example, the question of sugar. This is actually a non-essential food. Although a natural alternative, such as honey, can be used to sweeten food if this is necessary, we can in fact do without it. It is not that sugar is harmful in itself. But the problem is that the quantity we use has grown steadily over the last two centuries and in Britain today each person consumes an average of 200 pounds a year! Yet all it does is provide us with energy, in the form of calories. There are no vitamins in it, no minerals, and no fiber.6. Why do people now prefer natural foods?A、Because they grow fast and cost less.B、Because they fit people’s eating habits.C、Because they are good to people’s health.D、Because they are simply processed foods.7. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2?A、Fertilizers are important in growing natural foods.B、Soil for natural foods usually lacks organic matter.C、Natural foods are grown in commercial farming areas.D、Chemicals are used to increase the quantity of foods grown.8. What is the writer’s attitude towards chickens fed on battery farms?A、Supportive.B、Doubtful.C、Hopeful.D、Negative.9. What is the most important point the writer wants to make about sugar?A、People use it to sweeten food.B、It gives us much-needed energy.C、People take too much of it.D、It is actually a kind of honey.10. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the word “diet” (Paragraph4)?A、“food”B、“rice”C、“animals”D、“agriculture”Passage ThreeQuestions11 to 15 are based on the following passage:Friends play an important part in our lives, and although we may take the friendship for granted, we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends. While we get on well with a number of people, we are usually friends with only a very few – for example, the average among students is about 6 per person. In all the cases of friendly relationships, two people like one another and enjoy being together, but beyond that, the degree of intimacy between them and the reasons for their shared interest vary enormously. As we get to know people we take into account things like age, race, economic condition, social position, and intelligence. Although these factors are not of prime importance, it is more difficult to get on with people when there is a marked difference in age and background. Some friendly relationships can be kept on argument and discussion, but it is usual for close friends to have similar ideas and beliefs, to have attitudes and interests in common – they often talk about “being on the same wavelength”. It generally takes time to reach this point. And the more intimately involved people become, the more they rely on one another. People want to do friends favors and hate to break a promise. Equally, friends have to learn to put up with annoying habits and to tolerate differences of opinion. In contrast with marriage, there are no friendship ceremonies to strengthen the association between two people. But the supporting and understanding of each other that results from shared experiences and emotions does seem to create a powerful bond, which can overcome differences in background, and break down barriers of age, class or race.11. What does the passage say about making friends?A、People usually have fewer friends than they think.B、People do not have to like each other to become friends.C、People become friends when they get on well with each other.D、People consider age and background unimportant in making friends.12. Which of the following statements is true according to Paragraph 2?A、Tolerance is vital to friendship.B、Friends are usually interdependent.C、Friends do not rely financially on each other.D、Annoying habits are worse than promise breaking.13. What does the passage imply about marriage?A、There is no friendship involved in it.B、There is usually a special occasion for it.C、 It requires shared experiences and emotions.D、It is a much closer relationship than friendship.14. Which of the following contributes to friendship the most?A、Similarities in class and race.B、Similarities in age and background.C、 Similarities in habits and beliefs.D、Similarities in opinion and feelings.15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A、Friends and FriendshipB、Marriage and FriendshipC、Benefits from FriendsD、The Art of Making FriendsPassage FourQuestions 16 to 20 are based on the following passage:In a family where the roles of men and women are not sharply separated and where many household tasks are shared to a greater or lesser extent, notions of male superiority are hard to maintain. The pattern of sharing in tasks and in decisions makes for equality and this in turn leads to further sharing. In such a home, the growing boy and girl learn to accept equality more easily than did their parents and to prepare more fully for participation in a world characterized by cooperation rather by the “battle of the sexes”.If the process goes too far and man’s role is regarded as less important—and that has happened in some cases—we are as badly off as before, only in reverse. It is time to reassess the role of the man in the American family. We are getting a little tired of “Monism”—but we don’t want to exchange it for a “neo-Popism”. What we need, rather, is the recognition that bringing up children involves a partnership of equals. There are sings that psychiatrists, psychologists, socialworkers, and specialists on the family are becoming more aware of the part men play and that they have decided that women should not receive all the credit—nor the blame. We have almost given up saying that a woman’s place is in the home. We are beginning, however, to analyze man’s place in the home and to insist that he does have a place on it. Nor is that place irrelevant to the healthy development of the child. The family is a co-operative enterprise for which it is difficult to lay down rules, because each family needs to work out its own ways for solving its own problems. Excessive authoritarianism (命令主义) has unhappy consequences, whether it wears skirts or trousers, and the ideal of equal rights and equal responsibilities is pertinent (相关的,切题的) not only to a healthy democracy, but also to a healthy family.16. The ideal of equal rights and equal responsibilities is .A. fundamental to a sound democracyB. not pertinent to healthy family lifeC. responsible for MonismD. what we have almost given up17. The danger in the sharing of household tasks by the mother and the father is that .A. the role of the father may become an inferior oneB. the role of the mother may become an inferior oneC. the children will grow up believe that life is a battle of sexesD. sharing leads to constant arguing18. The author states that bringing up children .A. is mainly the mother’s jobB. belongs among the duties of the fatherC. is the job of schools and churchesD. involves a partnership of equals19. According to the author, the father’s role in the home is .A. minor because he is an ineffectual parentB. irrelevant to the healthy development of the childC. pertinent to the healthy development of the childD. identical to the role of the child’s mother20. With which of the following statements would the author be most likely to agree?A. A healthy, co-operative family is a basic ingredient of a healthy society.B. 2017专转本英语全真模拟卷(二)第I卷(共100分)Part I Reading Comprehension(共20小题,每小题2分.共40分)Directions:In this part there are four passages. Each passage is followed by four comprehension questions.Read the passage and answer the questions. Then mark your answer on the answer sheet.Passage OneQuestions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage:Some years ago the captain of a ship was very interested in medicine. He always took medicine books to sea and liked to talk about different diseases. One day a lazy sailor on his ship pretended to be ill. He lay on his bunk(铺)and groaned as if he were very sick. The captain came to see him and was very pleased to have a patient to look after. He told the man to rest for a few days and made the other sailors do his work. Three days later another sailor pretended that he had something wrong with his chest. Once more the captain looked in his medical books and told the “sick” man to have a rest. The other sailors were very angry because they had more work to do. The patients had the best food and laughed at their friends when the captain was not looking. At last the mate(船长副手) decided to cure the “sick” men. He mixed up some soap, soot(烟灰), glue(胶水) and other unpleasant things. Then he obtained permission from the captain to give his medicine to the “sick” men. When they tasted the medicine, they really did feel ill. It was so horrible that one of the patients jumped out of his bunk, ran up on deck and climbed the highest mast on the ship. He did not want any more medicine. The mate told both of the men that they must take the medicine every half an hour, night and day. This soon cured them. They both said they felt better and wanted to start work again. The captain realized that the men tried to deceive him so he made them work very hard for the rest of the voyage.1. A Sudden Cure.B. Two Patients.C. Captain and Sailors.D. A Difficult Voyage.Passage TwoQuestions 6 to l0 are based on the following passage:When aluminum was first produced about a hundred and fifty years ago, it was so difficult to separate from the ores (矿石) in which it was found that its price was higher than that of gold. The price remained high until a new process was discovered for refining the metal with the aid of electricity approximately three quarters of a century later. The new method was so much cheaper that aluminum became practical for many purposes, one of which was making pots and pans.Aluminum is lightweight, rustproof and easily shaped into different forms. By mixing it with other metals, scientist have been able to produce a variety of alloys, some of which have the strength of steel but weigh only one third as much.Today, the uses of aluminum are innumerable. Perhaps its most important use is in transportation. Aluminum is found in the engines of automobiles, in the hulls of boats. It is also used in many parts of airplanes. In fact, the huge “airbus”planes would probably never have been produced if aluminum did not exist. By making vehicles lighter in weight aluminum has greatly reduced the amount of fuel needed to move them. Aluminum is also being used extensively in the building industry in some countries.Since aluminum is such a versatile (多用的) metal, it is fortunate that bauxite (铝土矿), which is one of its chief sources, is also one of the earth’s most plentiful substances. As the source of aluminum is almost inexhaustible, we can expect that more and more uses will be found for this versatile metal.6. The price of aluminum was sharply reduced when people discovered a new refiningprocess with the aid of ______.A. wind powerB. solar energyC. hydraulic powerD. electricity7. Aluminum is ______.A. lightweight, rustproof but not easily shaped into different formsB. heavyweight, rustproof and easily shaped into different formsC. lightweight, rustproof and easily shaped into different formsD. lightweight and easily shaped into different forms but it is easy to becomerusty8. Which of the following is not true?A. Aluminum is widely used in transportation.B. Aluminum is also used in many parts of airplanes.C. Aluminum is being used extensively in the building industry.D. Aluminum is not used in its pure form.9. Aluminum is found on earth mostly in the form of ______.A. pure metalB. bauxiteC. goldD. liquid10. What is the passage talking about?A. The features of aluminum and its functions.B. The process of aluminum.C. The discovery of aluminum.D. The promising future of aluminum.Passage ThreeQuestions 11 to l5 are based on the following passage:One of the most authoritative voices speaking to us today is, of course, the voice of the advertisers. It shouts at us from the television screen and the radio loudspeakers; waves to us from every page of the newspaper; signals to us from the roadside bill-boards all day and flashes messages to us in colored lights all night.Advertising has been among England’s biggest growth industries since the war. Perhaps the reason is that advertising saves the manufacturers from having to think about the customer. At the stage of designing and developing a product, there is quite enough to think about without worrying over whether anybody will want to buy it. The designer is busy enough without adding customer-appeal to all his other problems of man-hours and machine tolerances and stress factors. So they just go ahead and make the thing and leave it to the advertiser to find clever ways of making it appeal to purchasers after they have finished it, by pretending that if confers(赋予) status, or attracts love, or signifies manliness.Other manufacturers find advertising saves them from changing their product. And manufacturers hate change. The ideal product is one that goes on unchanged forever. If, therefore, for one reason or another, some alteration seems called for – how much better to change the image, the packet or the pitch made by the product, rather than go to all the inconvenience of changing the product itself.11. Which of the following can best describe the author’s attitude toward modernadvertising?A. Indifferent.B. Shocked.C. Disapproving.D. Approving.12. According to the author, which is NOT the designer’s chief concern when he designsa product?A. Stress factors.B. Man-hours.C. Machine tolerances.D. Customer-appeal13. It is stated in the passage that those responsible for giving a productcustomer-appeal are ______.A. customersB. designersC. advertisersD. manufacturers14. According to the author, when some change in a product is necessary, amanufacturer will choose to ______.A. lower the production costB. hire a better designerC. improve its qualityD. alter its image15. The best title for the passage might be ______.A. Advertising Since the WarB. Advertising and ManufacturersC. Advertising – England’s Biggest IndustryD. Advertising and PurchasersPassage FourQuestions 16 to 20 are based on the following passage:All that we really need to plot out the future of our universe are a few good measurements. This does not mean that we can sit down today and outline the future course of the universe with anything like certainty. There are still too many things we do not know about the way the universe is put together. But we do know exactly what information we need to fill in our knowledge, and we have a pretty good idea of how to go about getting it. Perhaps the best way to think of our present situation is to imagine a train coming into a switchyard (调车场). All of the switches (转辙器) are set before the train arrives, so that its path is completely determined. Some switches we can see, others we cannot. There is no ambiguity if we can see thesetting of a switch; we can say with confidence that some possible futures will not materialize and others will. At the unseen switches, however, there is no such certainty. We know the train will take one of the tracks leading out, but we have no idea which one. The unseen switches are the true decision points in the future, and what happens when we arrive at them determines the entire subsequent course of events. When we think about the future of the universe, we can see our “track” many billions of years into the future, but after that there are decision points to be dealt with and possible fates to consider. The goal of science is to reduce the ambiguity at the decision points and find the true road that will be followed.16. According to the passage, it is difficult to be certain about the distant futureof the universe because we ______.A. have too many conflicting theoriesB. do not have enough funding to continue our researchC. are not sure how the universe is put togetherD. have focused our investigations on the moon and planets17. What does the author see as the function of the universe’s unseen “switches”?A. They tell us which one of the tracks the universe will use.B. They enable us to alter the course of the universe.C. They give us information about the lunar surface.D. They determine which course the universe will take in the future.18. In the second paragraph, the word “track” could best be replaced by which ofthe following?A. BandB. RailsC. PathD. Sequence19. For whom is the author probably writing this passage?A. Train engineers.B. General audiences.C. Professors of statistics.D. Young children.20. Which of the following statements best describes the organization of the passage?A. A statement illustrated by an analogy(类比).B. A hypothesis supported by documentation (引用文献).C. A comparison of two contrasting theories.D. 2017年江苏省专转本英语模拟试题第九套Part I Reading comprehension:(共20小题,每题2分,共40分)Directions: There are four passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C, D. You should decide the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.Passage 1Electric cars are dirty. In fact, not only are they dirty, they might even be more dirty than their gasoline-powered cousins.People in California love to talk about “zero-emissions vehicles,” but people in California seem to be clueless about where electricity comes from. Power plants most all use fire to make it. Aside from the few folks who have their roofs covered with solar cells, we get our electricity from generators. Generators are fueled by something — usually coal, oil, but also by heat generated in nuclear power plants. There are a few wind farms and geothermal plants as well, but by far we get electricity mainly by burning In other words, those “zero-emissions” cars are likely coal-burning cars. It's just the coal is burned somewhere else so it looks clean. It is not. It’s as if the California Greens are covering their eyes —“If I can’t see it, it’s not happening.” Gasoline is an incredibly efficient way to power a vehicle; a gallon of gas has a lot of energy in it. But when you take that gas (or another fuel) and first use it to make electricity, you waste a nice part of that energy, mostly in the form of wasted heat — at the generator, through the transmission lines, etc.A gallon of gas may propel your car 25 miles. But the electricity you get from that gallon of gas won't get you nearly as far — so electric cars burn more fuel than gas-powered ones. If our electricity came mostly from nukes, or geothermal, or hydro, or solar, or wind, then an electric car truly would be clean. But for political, technical, and economic reasons, we don’t use much of those energy sources. In addition, electric cars’ batteries which are poisonous for a long time will eventually end up in a landfill. And finally, when cars are the polluters, thepollution is spread across all the roads. When it’s a power plant, though, all the junk is in one place. Nature is very good at cleaning up when things are not too concentrated, but it takes a lot longer when all the garbage is in one spot.1 What does “clueless” mean in paragraph 2?A) The California Greens are covering their eyes.B) People in California love to talk about zero-emissions vehiclesC) People in California love to have their roofs covered with solar cellsD) People there have no idea that so far electricity mainly comes from burning coal, oil, etc.2 According to the passage, why the California Greens hold the idea “If I can’t see it, it’s not happening.”?A) They do not know those clean cars are likely coal-burning cars.B) They do believe that the coal is burned somewhere else so it looks clean.C) They tend to hold that electricity is a nice part of D) They tend to maintain that gasoline is a good way to run a vehicle.3. The electricity we get from a gallon of gas may make our car run __________.A) not less than 25 miles.B) more than 25 miles.C) no less than 25 miles.D) not more than 25 miles.4 Compared with cars using gas, electric cars __________A) do not burn fuel and more environmental.B) are toxic and it is difficult for nature to clean it up when their batteries are buried in one spot.C) are very good at cleaning up when things are not too concentratedD) are poisonous for a long time and will eventually end up in a landfill.5. It can be inferred from the passage that __________.A) Being green is good and should be encouraged in communicationsB) Electric cars are not clean in that we get electricity mainly by burning something.C) Zero-emissions vehicles should be chosen to protect our environment.D) Electric cars are now the dominant vehicle compared with gasoline-powered cousins.Passage TwoRising global carbon dioxide levels tied to global warming may not be as crucial in determining the composition of plant communities as other, localized climate changes."Nobody really knows what the increases in carbon dioxide are going to entail in terms of future changes in vegetation types," said Mark Brenner, a University of Florida assistant professor of paleolimnology, the study of ancient lakes. "It looks like climate changes in different areas may be more important than carbon dioxide, at least carbon dioxide by itself," he said.Brenner’s research team based their conclusions on an analysis of sediment from two lake bottoms, one in northern Mexico and one in northern Guatemala. The researchers used new techniques that allowed them to analyze only the remains of land plants, specifically their leaf waxes. By measuring the composition of the leaf waxes, the researchers were able to distinguish two broad categories of plants living in these areas -- so-called C3 and C4 plants, which have different photosynthetic(光合作用) processes. Many C4 plants are tropical grasses, while most tropical trees are C3 plants. The researchers analyzed sediments(沉积物) deposited over the last 27,000 years, from the last ice age to the current geological period. Over this period, there was a worldwide, relatively uniform increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.Brenner said that if carbon dioxide played the major role in determining plant composition, one would assume that analysis of the sediments would reveal very similar changes in relative abundance of C3 and C4 plants in the two places over the study period. But, in fact, the researchers found that trends in the two types of plants were different at the two locations. The changes were related not with carbon dioxide levels, but with shifts in rainfall. "The result appears to be that climate factors, especially moisture availability, determine whether C4 or C3 plantsdominate in an area, not carbon dioxide," Brenner said. Many scientists believe global warming will cause major variation in local climates worldwide, with some wet areas becoming dry and dry areas becoming wet. If that happens, it could have more impact on relative C3 versus C4 plant distribution than the rising carbon dioxide levels.6. What can be inferred in the first paragraph?A) Climate changes are more important to the composition of plant communities than rising global carbon dioxide.B) Localized climate shifts may not be as crucial as carbon dioxide.C) Nobody knows which one is important.D) Carbon dioxide levels is crucial to the global warming.7. What is Mark Brenner?A) He studies co-author’s opinion.B) He is assisting the University of Florida.C) He is an expert in the field of ancient lakes.D) His research team composed of six geologists and geographers.8. According to the third paragraph, which one is NOT true?A) Tropical grasses are usually C4 plants.B) C3 and C4 plants used to live in northern Mexico and Guatemala.C) C3 and C4 plants don’t have the same processes.D) Tropical trees are all C3 plants.9. Why, in the 4th paragraph, the researchers found that trends in C3 and C4 plants were different at the two locations?A) The assumption that carbon dioxide played the major role is wrong.B) The carbon dioxide played an important role.C) The moisture availability was different.D) The carbon dioxide level was different.10 What’s the main idea of the passage?A) Climates factors determine the plant distribution and composition of plant communities.B) Global warming will cause major variation.C) How has Brenner’s research team proved a truth.D) C3 and C4 plants are important plants in determining the composition of plant communities.Passage 3Culture is one of the most challenging elements of the international marketplace. This system of learned behavior patterns characteristic of the members of a given society is constantly shaped by a set of dynamic variables: language, religion, values and attitudes, manners and customs, aesthetics, technology, education, and social institutions. To cope with this system, an international manager needs both factual and interpretive knowledge of culture. To some extent, the factual knowledge can be learned; its interpretation comes only through experience. The most complicated problems in dealing with the cultural environment stem from the fact that one cannot learn culture one has to live it. Two schools of thought exist in the business world on how to deal with cultural diversity. One is that business is business the world around, following the model of Pepsi and McDonald’s. In some cases, globalization is a fact of life; however, cultural differences are still far from converging. The other school proposes that companies must tailor business approaches to individual cultures. Setting up policies and procedures in each country has been compared to an organ transplant; the critical question centers around acceptance or rejection. The major challenge to the international manager is to make sure that rejection is not a result of cultural myopia or even blindness.Fortune examined the international performance of a dozen large companies that earn 20 percent or more of their revenue overseas. The internationally successful companies all share an important quality: patience. They have not rushed into situations but rather built their operations carefully by following the most basic business principles. These principles are to know your adversary, know your audience, and know your customer.11. According to the passage, which of the following is true?A)All international managers can learn culture.B)Business diversity is not necessary.C)Views differ on how to treat culture in business world.D)Most people do not know foreign culture well.12. According to the author, the model of Pepsi.A)is in line with the theories of the school advocating the business is business the world around.B)is different from the model of McDonald’sC)shows the reverse of globalizationD)has converged cultural differences13. The two schools of thought.A)both propose that companies should tailor business approaches to individual culturesB)both advocate that different policies be set up in different countriesC)admit the existence of cultural diversity in business worldD)Both A and B14. This article is supposed to be most useful for those.A)who are interested in researching the topic of cultural diversityB)who have connections to more than one type of cultureC)who want to travel abroadD)who want to run business on International Scale15. According to Fortune, successful international companies.A)earn 20 percent or more of their revenue overseasB)all have the quality of patienceC)will follow the overseas local culturesD)adopt the policy of internationalizationPassage 4There are people in Italy who can’t stand soccer. Not all Canadians love hockey.A similar situation exists in America, where there are those individuals you maybe one of them who yawn or even frown when somebody mentions baseball. Baseball to them means boring hours watching grown men in funny tight outfits standing around in a field staring away while very little of anything happens. They tell you it’s a game better suited to the 19th century, slow, quiet, and gentlemanly. These are the same people you may be one of them who love football because there’s the sport that glorifies “the hit”.By contrast, baseball seems abstract, cool, silent, still. On TV the game is fractured into a dozen perspectives, replays, close ups. The geometry of the game, however, is essential to understanding it. You will contemplate the game from one point as a painter does his subject; you may, of course, project yourself into the game. It is in this projection that the game affords so much space and time for involvement. The TV won’t do it for you.Take, for example, the third baseman. You sit behind the third base dugout and you watch him watching home plate. His legs are apart, knees flexed. His arms hang loose. He does a lot of this. The skeptic still cannot think of any other sports so still, so passive. But watch what happens every time the pitcher throws: the third baseman goes up on his toes, flexes his arms or bring the glove to a point in front of him, takes a step right or left, backward or forward, perhaps he glances across the field to check his first baseman’s position. Suppose the pitch is a ball. “Nothing happened,” you say. “I could have had my eyes closed.”The skeptic and the innocent must play the game. And this involvement in the stands is no more intellectual than listening to music is. Watch the third baseman. Smooth the dirt in front of you with one foot; smooth the pocket in your glove; watch the eyes of the batter, the speed of the bat, the sound of horsehide on wood. If football is a symphony of movement and theatre, baseball is chamber music, a spacious interlocking of notes, chores and responses.16.The passage is mainly concerned with .A)the different tastes of people for sports B)the different characteristics of sportsC)the attraction of football D)the attraction of baseball17.Those who don’t like baseball may complain that.A)it is only to the taste of the old B)it involves fewer players than football C)it is not exciting enough D)it is pretentious and looks funny18.The author admits that.A)baseball is too peaceful for the youngB)baseball may seem boring when watched on TVC)football is more attracting than baseballD)baseball is more interesting than football19.By stating “I could have had my eyes closed.” the author means (4th paragraph last sentence).A)The third baseman would rather sleep than play the gameB)Even if the third baseman closed his eyes a moment ago, it could make no different to the resultC)The third baseman is so good at baseball that he could finish the game with eyes closed all the time and do his work wellD)The consequent was too bad he could not bear to see it20.We can safely conclude that the author.A)likes football B)hates football C)hates baseball D)likes baseballPart II Vocabulary and Structure (共40小题,每题1分,共40分)Directions: In this part there are forty incomplete sentences.
