Charles Dickens (1812– 1870) British novelist, withdrawn from school, 12. Describe the ugly masks of criminals . Show the "horror areas" in London.
he escaped from the workhouse and ran away to London. Here he received an “education” in villainy(犯罪行为) from the criminal gang(一伙) of Fagin that includes the brutal(无情的) thief Bill Sikes, the famous artful Dodger and Nancy. Oliver was rescued by the intervention(介入) of a benefactor - Mr Brownlow - but the mysterious Monks(神秘的和尚) got the boy kidnapped(绑架) to the gang again. Finally Nancy was murdered viciously by Sikes after she has thrown light upon some related facts. The story closed happily and with justice for the cruel Monks who had hidden the truth of Oliver parentage out of malice(恶意).
