Before entering college, students always feel confused about what should do and what is beneficial for developing themselves because they will meet different choices and challenges. So it is very important to make a good decision which will contribute your academic and other grade directly. Just like the most students, when I entered the University of Indianapolis, I was so wondered about how to become a successful student. So I went to interview two people: a student called Anna, who is a senior studying music, one is an instructor teaching me Finance. After the interview, I found that they both had talked about time management, major, part-time job. The following paper will compare and analyze the viewpoints of the three aspects. As is known to all, how to manage time well is a significant issue that leads to working or studying efficiently. Professor Richardson suggests writing down an efficient time management and doing as the schedule constantly. He also recommends studying 6 days and resting one day every week. On weekdays, students have a great deal of homework. So they have to pay almost all attention on learning academic knowledge and reviewing it. Reviewing helps students to understand and acquire thecontent that they are not familiar in class. It also provides a second memory on those they have known. So students are not able to relax themselves absolutely as they have to attend classes and learn outside classroom. They also have to set aside at least twice time as class hours to consolidate knowledge they have learned. On weekends, students are allowed to do some things that they are interested in. but if they do not study, they will fall behind with others. On the other hand Anna considers that it is important to manage time reasonably. She thinks that study time can be reduced if students study efficiently enough. Because after grasping what they have learned in classes, why need they put much extra time on it especially for the boring subject and why do not they do some meaningful things which also can assist them to learn knowledge that they cannot learn in class. For example, she said that her sister Betty is one of the top students in college. During studying in Chicago University, her grade point average reaches 3.7. She concentrates on whatever the professor says and tries to understand the all content. She spends little time to review after classes. Beyond the study time, she always has various activities such as looking after the children for others, doing different researches, and taking a part-time job in a zoo. In fact, she applies the knowledge in the class to the daily life. These activities do not affect her grade and even help her to recognize the society much more deeply.Another aspect of being successful in college is choosing a correct major whichcontribute to the triumphant career in future. Both Professor Richardson and anna hold a same opinion that students are supposed to select a major they are keen on. William Shakespeare said "knowledge must align with interest, it would only benefit." When students are learning and doing what they are interested, they are able to maintain focused attention stably, image in a vivid way and think positively in depth. When meeting challenges and difficulties, they can solve them with happy mood and strong determination. It also determines whether could have a loved job that be devoted to. If take a job that one is not liked at all, he or she will feelit is a disaster. So how could he or she manage it well? Thus, when students make a decision which major will they learn in college, it is a crucial point in the life even changes his future.Many students take a part-time job in college. Is it good to become a successful student? Professor Richardson and anna have a different viewpoint. Professor Richardson thinks that there is no need to have a job in college if family can afford the tuition and expense on other items. It influence study directly as the study time reduces. Students' "job" is to study but not to work. After graduating from college, they have more than half of life to work. But if family is not able to support, it require students to take a part-time job to deduct the burden of families. On the other hand, in anna's opinion, taking a part-time job has a lot of advantages even the family is quite wealthy. Such as widening views and learn social ability. In conclusion, Professor richardson hold a similar opinion on how to choosea major with anna. But on another two aspects the viewpoints of time management and taking a part-time job differ from anna's.
