The Welsh National Dress though is only for females. There have been attempts to create a welsh kilt for the men but this has not really taken off.
The National Costume evolved from Lady Llanover. She lived in Gwent South Wales and thought that by having a national dress would help and encourage the speaking of the Welsh language. The costume had the following items. Tall black Hat , a long frilled white cap worn under the hat, a white blouse, a red shawl, black cloak, skirt made of wool, a white apron , black woollen stockings, and black shoes.
