_.ABrian was unhappy because he had to babysit his little sister Crissy on the first day of their mountain vacation since Mom had to pick up Dad at the airport and wouldn’t be back until later. “I’ll miss the Perseids this year,” he said.“What are the Perseids?” Crissy asked.“They’re lots of falling stars called a meteor shower(流星雨) that comes every August,”Brian replied, annoyed.“ Let’s sleep on the deck (露天平台) tonight. We can both watch!” Crissy suggested. That was not a bad idea, Brian thought. “OK. I’ll leave a note inside so Mom and Dad know we’re on the deck. Go and get your sleeping bag.”When Crissy returned, she asked, “When will the stars come out?”“Soon. The Perseids come early in the morning.”They both soon fell asleep. Suddenly, Brian heard something moving on the other side of the deck. He tried to be very quiet so he would not frighten whatever it was. Carefully, he looked out of the sleeping bag and found there was a large black bear standing on his back legs. Crissy was awake too. “We have a visitor. It’s a bear,” Brian tried to sound confident so Crissy wouldn’t be frightened, but inside, he was very nervous.“I’m scared,” Crissy said in a low voice.“Just don’t move,” Brian warned. The bear was now eating the hamburgers they had placed on the deck earlier. Brian covered both of them with his sleeping bag. Crissy closed her eyes and held her breath. Brian tried to stay still.Minutes later, Crissy asked, “Is he gone?”Looking out of the sleeping bag again, Brian replied, “Yep. I guess he was just hungry.”“Well, I’m just glad he liked our dinner and didn’t eat ME!” Crissy laughed.Brian laughed too, “Nah! That bear just wanted some junk food!”Crissy hugged her brother, and Brian hugged her back. Things didn’t turn out so badly after all, he thought.“Look!”Brian said, pointing upward. What is the best title for the passage?A. Taking A Mountain VacationB. Waiting For The PerseidsC. Unusual Sound At NightD. Fireworks ShowBThe future of pinnipeds (鳍足动物)looks much brighter today than it once did. At one time, about 100 years ago, it seemed certain that many pinnipeds in the world would be destroyed by human hunters. Today, it appears that most species( 物种) of pinnipeds are out of danger.Hunting was not controlled during the 18th and 19th centuries, because little was known about the lives of pinnipeds. Whales and pinnipeds were hunted for the oil from their body fat. This oil was used in lamps before electric lights were invented. Millions of seals and other pinnipeds were used to provide oil for the lamps of the world. As a result, the numbers of many pinniped species fell rapidly.Several things happened that helped to save pinnipeds. First, species that were hunted to near extinction (灭绝) were left alone because their numbers were too low and the cost of hunting them went up greatly. At the same time, electric lights were invented and the market for seal oil became smaller. Finnaly, governments around the world made laws to protect pinnipeds. As a result of all these things, the numbers of most pinniped species have grown in recent years. With some species, such as Northern fur seals, there may be as many animals alive today as there were before all the hunting began. However, oil is still a danger to pinnipeds and all sea animals. But this time it’s not because they are hunted for their oil. The oil that puts them in danger is from oil spills(泄露) in the sea. The oil covers their fur and reduces their body temperatures. Oil also sticks to the foods they eat. This modern danger to pinnipeds and their environment is one we must work to prevent.60. During the 18th and 19th century, _______.A. people had realized the importance of pinnipedsB. pinnipeds were hunted for their meatC. pinnipeds had a better life than todayD. many families were using lamps61. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?A. How electric lights were invented.B. When people began to protect pinnipeds.C. What governments around the world have done to save pinnipeds.D. Why the numbers of some pinnipeds have increased.62. It can be inferred from the passage that________.A. the market for seal oil is growingB. Northern fur seals aren’t in much danger nowC. oil spills are the biggest problem for pinnipedsD. stricter laws need to be made to protect pinnipeds63. In which part of a magazine can we most probably read this passage?A. Wildlife.B. Lifestyle.C. Tourism.D. Envrironment.CNinety years ago a man named Howard Carter made a great find. But he didn’t discover an unknown people group or a new plant. He found the resting place of a king.People had seen signs of King Tutankhamun’s tomb but had never found it. Finally, Carter’s team discovered a set of steps that led down to some underground rooms. There Carter found the king’s body and many of his treasures. _.Carter recorded his first impression(印象) in his popular book, The Tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen: At first I could see nothing, the hot air coming from the room causing the candle light to flicker(闪烁), but later, as my eyes grew used to the light, details of the room within appeared slowly and clearly, strange animals and gold—everywhere the light of gold... I was struck speechless with amazement, and when Lord Carnarvon, unable to stand the silence any longer, asked anxiously, “Can you see anything?”it was all I could do to get out the words, “Yes, wonderful things.”The discovery has made King Tutankhamun, Tut for short, one of the better-remembered kings of Egypt. Tut became king when he was only 9 years old and ruled ancient Egypt from 1332 to 1323 B.C. No one is sure why, but he died suddenly before he turned 20. Because he died so young, there wasn’t time to prepare a great tomb for him. So he ended up with a smaller tomb. Itssmall size was actually the reason why it stayed hidden for so long. And, Tut’s tomb was not like other Egyptian king s’– it was not as damaged by time or robbers as other tombs. King Tut’s tomb remains the best-kept royal(皇室的)tomb ever discovered. The discovery of this little tomb has helped people learn a great deal about ancient Egypt.64. We can learn from Paragraphs1-2 that________.A. Howard Carter found Tut’s tomb in 1929B. a new plant was found in Tut’s tombC. Howard Carter found Tut’s tomb by accidentD. there were a lot of treasures in Tut’s tomb65. He is known to few people today.C. He ruled Egypt for about nine years.D. He built his own tomb over a long time.67. Why did Tut’s tomb stay hidden for so long?A. Because it was small in size.B. Because it was deep underground.C. Because King Tut wasn’t recorded.D. Because people had little interest in it.DFrom Japan to Indonesia, a certain kind of pop culture is very hot. But it doesn’t come from Hollywood—it’s Hallyu(韩流), the wave of Korean pop culture that has washed over Asia. It has influenced everything from music to television. And thanks to the Internet and social media (大众传播媒体), it’s now spreading worldwide.South Korea produces all types of entertainment, the most popular being music, soap operas and films. What makes Hallyu so hot in Asia? One reason is that its products are of high quality and much cheaper than Western products. Another reason is that Eastern cultures are similar to each other, although there are language differences.Korean pop music, or “K-pop”, is topping music charts(音乐排行榜) everywhere. Fans love the songs and the attractive stars. Companies like SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment help many K-pop stars, such as Super Junior, Big Bang and Rain, to succeed. And they are not only popular in Asia, they also enjoy popularity in the West. In 2011, Big Bang’smini-album Tonight reached the top 10 on U.S. iTunes Top Pop Albums. When SM Entertainment took their 2010 world tour to Los Angeles, only 30 percent of the 15,000 fans were Korean. Half of the audien ce wasn’t even Asian! One important reason for the success of Hallyu is simply the Internet. A little more than 10 years ago, Korean soap operas, movies and music reached the outside world quite slowly. They began in Korea, then gradually spread outward, appearing in its neighbouring countries where local TV and radio companies would play them. Now they are played around the world online at the same time.YouTube is another major way to get Korean entertainment to fans everywhere. It is an inexpensive and effective (有效的)way for artists to introduce their work to a larger audience. In 2010 the YouTube channels for the top three Korean entertainment groups together had nearly 800 million views from 225 different countries.68. Hallyu is very hot in Asia partly because________.A. languages in Asia are similar to each otherB. the quality of South Korea’s products is highC. South Korea’s products are the cheapest in AsiaD. the culture is the most fashionable in the world69. The author shows the popularity of K-pop in the West_______.A. in order of timeB. in order of spaceC. by listing reasonsD. by giving examples70.The last two paragraphs mainly tell us________.A. how important the Internet isB. what helps Hallyu spread quicklyC. why Hallyu is popular worldwideD. how popular and effective YouTube is71. What would be the best title for the passage?A. K-pop Tops Music Charts Everywhere _.B. Hallyu Makes Waves Across The WorldC. YouTube Helps Korean Cultures SpreadD. Those prizes were just a part of the awards valued at more than $3 million.Intel ISEF, a program of Society for Science & the Public, which is held every year, attracts some of the world’s best and brightest young scientists. This year, 1,549 high-school students, who came from 68 countries, took part in the event. In all, more than one-third of the entrants received awards in the form of money or other prizes such as scholarships.A little more than 1,000 of the competitors in this science competition did research all by themselves. The other entrants were part of two- or three-student teams. About one out of every three entrants came from outside the United States.“We encourage millions of young scientists around the world to introduce changes and new ideas and put them into practice,” said Wendy Hawkins, director of the Intel Foundation, which sponsors(赞助)the competition. “The students who have entered the final of the competition have the ability to help solve some of the world’s most serious problems, which need to be dealt with immediately.”This year’s top prize, the $75,000 Gordon E. Moore award (named for the Intel co-founder), went to Jack Andraka. He has applied for a patent(专利)on his development. And he’s by no means alone in doing so, notes Elizabeth Marincola, president of Society for Science & the Public. About one-fourth of his fellow Intel ISEF entrants either hold patents on their research or have applied for them, she says. Increasingly, she notes, students “are looking to develop their ideas, not just to have them.”72. What can be learned about Intel ISEF?A. It mainly attracts American high-school students.B. It is sponsored by the Intel Foundation.C. It encourages teamwork.D. It is held twice a year.73. Intel ISEF is held to_______.A. help high school students win scholarships to collegesB. attract more sponsors to offer help to students in needC. discuss the world’s most serious problems among studentsD. encourage students to research new ideas and develop them74. Who won the top prize this year?A. Wendy Hawkins.B. Gordon E. Moore.C. Jack Andraka.D. Elizabeth Marincola.75. According to Elizabeth Marincola, why have more and more students applied for patents?A. Because they want to make some money.B. Because patents help them win the big prize.C. Because patents help them put their ideas into practice.D. Because it is required by Society for Science & the Public.阅读:A篇56-59BCCB B篇60-63DDBA C篇64-67DACA D篇68-71BDBB E篇72-75ADCC。

AA man and his girlfriend were married. It was a large celebration. All of their friends and family came to see the lovely ceremony. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true.A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a piece of advice, “I read in a magazine, a while ago, about how we can strengthen our marriage,” she offered. “Each of us will write a list of the things that we find a bit annoying with the other person. Then, we can talk about how we can fix them together and make our lives happier together.”The husband agreed. So each of them tried to think of the things that annoyed them about the other and wrote down what they came up with. The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided that they would go over their lists.“I’ll start,” offered the wife. She took out her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill three pages. In fact, as she started reading the list of the little annoyances, she noticed that tears were starting to appear in her husband’s eyes because he never thought that he had so many shortcomings. The wife continued to read until she had read all three pages to her husband. “Now, you read your list and then we’ll talk about the things on both of our lists,” she said happily.Quietly the husband stated, “I don’t have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect. I don’t want you to change anything for me. You are lovely and wonderful and I wouldn’t want to try and change anything about you.” The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept.In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldn't bear people to look at me and think I was not like them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step rapidly on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that use d to occur on the way to and from work. One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran into something. “I’m awfully sorry,”I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost. This was just one of the stupid things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn't stop unless passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.Generally in this situation, because I hated showing I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help. But on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of busespass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.62. Now its author Spence Johnson has written a book just for teens. The book tells us that when facing change in our lives, like a new school or new friends, don't be afraid. Instead, use this change to make a better life. The book gives an example of a change at school. A school is changingfrom having two terms to three terms because there are too many students.Several teens are talking about this. Most of them are unhappy and worried. But Chris is not. He laughs and tells a story about two mice, two "little people" and some cheese(奶酪).The four are in a maze looking for the cheese. Here, cheese means something important in life, like moving to a new class or getting into college. But they find the cheese is gone. The mice realize that they can't change what has happened and have to find more cheese. This means finding different dreams. The little people, however, can't do this. They are afraid of change so they find no cheese. After Chris finishes the story, the friends understand one thing: to get more cheese, move in a new direction quickly. His friends understand how this can be used in the changes all teens face, such as doing well at school or having good relationships or just feeling good about yourself.68. It isn’t that our friends are all very busy, it is just that we haven’t got a television. People think t hat we are very strange. “But what do you do in the evening?”,they are always asking. The answer is very simple. Both my wife and I have hobbies. We certainly don’t spend our evenings staring at the walls. My wife enjoys cooking and painting and often attends evening classes in foreign languages. This is particularly useful as we often go abroad for our holidays. I collect stamps and I’m always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to the music and playing chess together. Sometimes there are power cuts and we have no electricity in the house. This does not worry us, we just light candles and carry on with what wewere doing before. Our friends, however, are lost---no television!---So they don’t know what to do. On such evenings our house is very full ---they all come to us. They all have a good time. Instead of sitting in silence in front of the television, everybody talks and plays games.72. I also love my laptop computer, as it holds all of my writing and thought. Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices (设备) and truly communicate with others. On occasion, I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom. I have a rule — no laptops, iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy. Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There’s a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti-technology. There’s no truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students. The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversions and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and to make connections between the course the material and the class discussion.I’ve been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the educations r eflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create. Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.I’m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change. I’m sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.38. Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with ______.A. the course materialB. others’ misuse of technologyC. discussion topicsD. the author’s class regulations39. The underlined word “engage” in Paragraph 4 probably means ______.A. exploreB. acceptC. changeD. reject40. According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may ______.A. keep students from doing independent thinkingB. encourage students to have in-depth conversationsC. help students to better understand complex themesD. affect students’ concentra tion on course evaluation41. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author ______.A. is quite stubbornB. will give up teaching historyC. will change his teaching plan soonD. values technology-free dialogues in his classDWhen things go wrong and we’re to blame, we’re supposed to feel guilty. Right? Not necessarily. It turns out that when we do something that causes a negative outcome, we actually feel less responsible for our actions. And, we see the entire situation differently than we would have if things had turned out well. The “blame game” is nothing new. Behavior experts have long known that people push responsibility to others, or to outside factors, when things don’t work out. But new research from the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London shows that this response is more than about wanting to escape blame —we actually don’t believe that what happened is our fault. To learn more about the blame game, researchers conducted a study. They asked 34 participants to press keys that randomly (随机地) produced three different noises. The noises were positive (amusement, laughter), negative (fear, disgust, or anger), or neutral. The volunteers were asked to estimate (估计) the time that it took between when they pushed the button and when they heard the sound. Volunteers felt there was a longer lag (延迟) time between their actions and the negative sounds than between their actions and the positive ones. In their minds, the negative outcomes were separate from their actions. Therefore, they were able to feel less responsible for them. The researchers say that when it comes to assigning blame, we can’t always trust our own judgment. “Just because you don’t feel responsible, doesn’t mean you’re actually not,” says study author Patrick Haggard. The findings suggest that perhaps more of us need to realize that unpleasant or negative situations may actually be our fault —even if we don’t see it that way. And taking more responsibility for our actions could lead to better relationships with others.42. If things turn out well, people tend to ______.A. owe the success to othersB. share the success with othersC. feel more related to their actionsD. enjoy much pleasure themselves43. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?A. Experts knew little about the “blame game”.B. Similar studies have been done before.C. The study now has found nothing new.D. Outside factors lead to our fault.44. In the study, volunteers were asked to ______.A. push special buttonsB. write down the exact timeC. produce different soundsD. tell apart unpleasant sounds45. What’s true of the volunteers?A. They always doubted their own judgment.B. They believed someone else pressed the wrong keys.C. They were not brave enough to take the responsibility.D. They thought the bad results had little to do with them.46. What do the experts advise us to do to get along well with others?A. Be friendly to others.B. Take more responsibility.C. Treat others equally.D. Show respect to others.EIn her new book, “The Smartest Kids in the World,” Amanda Ripley, an investigative journalist, tells the story of Tom, a high-school student from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, who decides to spend his senior year in Wroclaw, Poland. Poland is a surprising educational success story: in the past decade, the country raised students’ test scores from significantly below average to well above it. Polish kids have now outscored American kids in math and science, even though Poland spends, on average, less than half as much per student as the United States does. One of the most striking differences between the high school Tom attended in Gettysburg and the one he ends up at in Wroclaw is that the latter has no football team, or, for that matter, teams of any kind. That American high schools spend more time and money on sports than on math is an old complaint. This is not a matter of how any given student who plays sports does in school, but of the culture and its priorities (优先考虑的事). This December, when the latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results are announced, it’s safe to predict that American high-school students will once again display their limited skills in math and reading, outscored not just by students in Poland but also by students in places like South Korea, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Singapore, and Japan. Meanwhile, they will have played some very exciting football games, which will have been breathlessly written up in their hometown papers. Why does this situation continue? Well, for one thing, kids like it. And for another, according to Ripley, parents seem to like the arrangement, too. She describes a tour she took of a school in Washington D.C., which costs thirty thousand dollars a year. The tour leader —a mother with three children in the school —was asked about the school’s flaws (瑕疵). When she said that the math program was weak, none of the parents taking the tour reacted. When she said that the football program was weak, the parents suddenly became concerned. “Really?” one of them asked worriedly, “What do you mean?”One of the ironies (讽刺) of the situation is that sports reveal what is possible. American kids’ performance on the field shows just how well they can do when expectations are high. It’s too bad that their test scores show the same thing.47. Tom decides to spend his senior year in Poland because _______.A. he intends to improve his scoresB. Polish kids are better at learningC. sports are not supported at schools in GettysburgD. there are striking differences between the two countries48. According to Paragraph 2, we know that _______.A. PISA plays a very important role in AmericaB. little time is spent on sports in Japanese schoolsC. American high schools complain about sports timeD. too much importance is placed on sports in America49. The underlined sentence in the last paragraph means _______.A. American students’ academic performance worries their parents a lotB. high expectations push up American students’ academic performanceC. low ex pectations result in American students’ poor PISA performanceD. lacking practice contributes to American students’ average performance50. The purpose of this text is to _______.A. compare Polish schools with those in AmericaB. call on American schools to learn from the Polish modelC. draw public attention to a weakness in American school traditionD. explain what is wrong with American schools and provide solutions第二节根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The everyday world is full of scenes being played by an ever-changing group of actors. You probably passed a dozen picture situations without noticing on your way to work this morning. The realistic approach to photograph has been perfected in the past by such masters as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Bill Brandt. But while you can learn a great deal from looking at the work ofothers, any success you can hope to achieve in this field has to come from developing an individual approach. The main requirement for any photographer has little to do with technical matters. You must develop an awareness of the world around you and the people who live in it, and you should learn to notice when a situation may develop to a point where you will be able to take a good picture. Those who have reached this happy state will be prepared when that moment comes, and will simply raise their cameras quickly and shoot. Others who are not so aware will bestruggling with camera cases(盒) and lens caps(镜头盖).Not every shot is going to be a winner. If you look at the work of even the best photographers, you’ll notice dozens of pictures have had to be taken only because they lead up to the successful shot of a situation that the photographer has obviously been observing through the lens. You may find that you have taken one or two pictures after the right moment has passed as well. There is seldom more than one shot which stands out. There is just one point where it all comes together, and you often have to wastefilm to catch that precious moment.21. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us?A. It’s difficult to take good pictures.B. No card came with it. Calls to the flower-shop were not helpful at all. Aftera while I stopped trying to discover the sender’s name and just delighted in the beautiful white flower in soft pink paper. But I never stopped imagining who the giver might be. Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming about the sender. My mother encouraged these imaginings. She’d ask me if there was someone for whom I had done special kindness. Perhaps it was the old man across the street whose mail I’d delivered during the winter. As a girl, though, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy I had run into. One month before my graduation, my father died. I felt so sad that I became completely uninterested in my upcoming graduation prom, and I didn’t care if I had a new dress or not. But my mother, in her own sadness, would not let me miss any ofthose things. She wanted her children to feel loved and lovable. In truth, my mother wanted her children to see themselves much like the gardenia---lovely, strong and perfect with perhaps a bit of mystery. My mother died ten days after I was married. I was 22. That was the year the gardenia stopped coming.25. How many gardenias did the author get altogether?A. 9.B. 11.C. 13.D. 15.26.
