The endangered pandas in Qinling Mountains might face a new threat: the loss of their food—bamboo, which makes up 99% of their meals.
A team made up of researchers from Michigan State University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences has studied the effects of climate change on the bamboo in Qinling Mountains. They have found that bamboo is very sensitive to climate changes. “80% to 100% of the bamboo would be gone if the average temperature increases 3.5 degrees worldwide by the end of the century.” said Liu Jianguo, one of tபைடு நூலகம்e report’s authors. He added, “This is how much the temperature would rise by 2100 even if all countries will keep their promises in the Paris Agreement. But you know what is happening around the world.”

AWhen it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness with me. When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviours. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Let’s start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changed into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped. When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair (失望) and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other. For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other’s dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments, I often think: “Yes, I must tell…” We have never met.It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist (心理学家), who will only fill up the healing (愈合的) silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.( )1. In Paragraph 2, “We gave London to each other.” probably means ________.A. our exploration of London was a memorable gift to both of usB. we were unwilling to tear ourselves away from LondonC. our unpleasant feelings about London disappearedD. we parted with each other in London( )2. According to Paragraph 3, the author and her friend ________.A. call each other regularlyB. have similar personalitiesC. enjoy writing to each otherD. dream of meeting each other( )3. In the darkest moments, the author would prefer to ________.A. ask for professional helpB. be left aloneC. stay with her best friendD. break the silenceBWhat’s your opinion about finding good friends? Speaking from my past experience, it is very difficult to find good friends that you can trust but once you have found them, they are worth keeping forever! Therefore, I think friendship is the most important relationship that anybody could have. The qualities I look for in a friend are a good sense of humour and sensitivity. A friend would have to be strong-minded and highly spirited. I think that these qualities are the key qualities to look for in a good friend.Even the best friends can still have arguments between themselves, though usually about more serious topics, rather than the usual childish arguments. Some matters can seriously affect friendship. If one of your friends started experimenting with harmful and dangerous drugs, what would you do? A good friend would try to help as much as possible, while a bad example of a friend would simply shrug and turn a blind eye.Not only the bad things affect friendship—good activities do too, such as bonding with one another, not just by going out on a night with them, but by spending quality time with them and talking to each other. This is a key aspect of a good friendship.Good friends do not always have to be in the same age group as you. I have a good friend and she is 47 years old and I am 16.Unfortunately, some people lose contact with their friends as they grow older, which is a sad way to lose a good friend.I think friendship is one of the most important things in life because if you have no friends you will have nohappiness.( )4. According to the author, true friendship ________.A. is easy to getB. needs managementC. deepens with timeD. is the friendship without arguments( )5. According to the author, which matters least in friendship?А. Age.B. Confidence.C. Sense of humour.D. Communication.( )6. Which of the following sayings can match the author’s view on friendship?A. Old friends and old wines are best.B. A friend without faults will never be found.C. A friend to everybody is a friend to nobody.D. A life without a friend is a life without sunshine.CAs farm kids, my siblings (兄弟姐妹) and I were expected to work hard and do our jobs. We knew no better, so didn’t really question it—at least until we were young teenagers and wondered why our friends had so much more free time than us.That ability to depend on myself has served me very well through life. The independence and self-reliance not only affected my physical abilities. It came to shape me emotionally too. However, it can, at times, also be a huge weight to bear.As my physical strength has been affected by rheumatoid arthritis, a disease that causes pain and swelling in one or more joints of the body, there have been many lessons for me in learning how to receive help. My health is now much improved compared to what it was a couple of years ago, or even last year. Daily challenges do still exist, but I have learned that it is OK to ask for help. The joy that others receive in lending a hand has made me realise that it is almost selfish to not ask for help! There is no need to deny others the pleasure of helping. If we are in need, it is more than OK to ask for assistance. Physical and emotional self-reliance are strengths, certainly, when used well. But the overuse of independence is unhealthy, unbalanced and unnecessary.Since being a mum, too, I’ve been given lots of lessons on the need to connect, and to acknowledge that I’m vulnerable and need others to rely on. There are certainly times like this in all of our lives, whether a parent or not. Sometimes life does just get too much.If we can loosen our need for independence, though, and grow into more interdependence, ease and space do grow. The braver we are to reach out and be open, the easier life is. It not only gives us emotional relief, but it brings joy and stronger connections in our relationships.( )7. We can infer that as a kid, the author ________.A. Didn’t have any friendsB. had to do a lot of workC. Didn’t like asking questionsD. worked harder than her siblings( )8. The author’s attitude towards self-independence changed after she ________.A. had childrenB. became a teenagerC. formed her personalityD. suffered from a disease( )9. The underlined word “vulnerable” in the text means the author is ________.A. too sick to bring up the childrenB. too tired to carry onC. weak emotionallyD. likely to give up( )10. What can we learn from the author’s experience?A. Every coin has two sides.B. Strike while the iron is hot.C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.D. Where there is a will, there is a way.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Maybe it's because of the bad weather, or the poor grade on a difficult test, and some days teenagers just act uninterested in life or school. But these symptoms(症状) often pass quickly, as teens move on to new school subjects, or meet friends, preventing themselves from thinking what troubles them at the moment. But if a teenager displays symptoms of sadness for more than two weeks, it might point to something serious. As teenagers develop, they push new boundaries(边界), complain about rules and look for more free rights from their parents. According to the online Health Guide on Adolescent Development, parents must be lasting figures in their teenagers' life, providing safe boundaries for teens to grow, even if the teenagers act like these boundaries are unwanted.Parents need to provide rules, while also remaining flexible(灵活的) and respectful of the growing teens' need for freedom. For example, teenagers will often feel frustrated, embarrassed, and even angry that though they want freedom, they still need to ask their parents for agreement to go to a friend's house, or need their mothers to take them to school. The US Department of Education says that parents should respect(尊重) and support their teens' choices as long as those choices won't have long-term harmful effects. For example, even if a parent doesn't prefer the music his or her teen listens to, it's unlikely that the choice of music will prevent that teen from entering a good college, or lead to health problems. However, if that teen is drinking alcohol and driving, parents must get through strict punishments to teach him/her that there are bad results of poorchoices that come with increased freedom.4.Why do teens' feelings of bad days usually disappear quickly?A.Their teachers help them.B.They take some medicine.C.Their parents talk with them.D.They shift their attention.5.What does the example in Paragraph 3 show?A.Freedom must be given at any time.B.Teens are mad about being controlled.C.Teens need both freedom and proper rules.D.Rules must be absolutely strict for teens.6.What should parents do about their teens' choices?A.Support their helpful hobbies.B.Tell them which college to attend.C.Cancel their extra-curricular activities.D.Get them away from singing pop songs.7.What is the best title for the text?A.How to Be with Growing TeensB.Causes of Teens' SadnessC.Teens' Worries About Strict RulesD.The Importance of Making Friends with TeensCThe Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and pleasure. We use it to learn a new language. We find advice on it. We use it to connect with family and friends. We use it to stay in touch with events we care about. The list goes on and on.As far as the Internet being a part of our lives, well, that train has left the station. There is no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers. A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected to high blood pressure in a young group: teenagers. The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week only online may cause high blood pressure, which makes their hearts and blood vessels (血管) work too hard. Over time, this extra pressure increases the risk of a heart attack. High blood pressure can also cause heart and other diseases. The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old, took part in it. 134 of the teens were described as H heavy Internet users". And researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high bloodpressure. The researchers said the study was the first to connect heavy Web use with high blood pressure. The lead researcher is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. She says, "Using the Internet is part of our daily life, but il shouldn't ruin (毁坏)us. "Ms. Cassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to stop to have a rest regularly (有规律地)from their computers or smartphones and do some kind of physical activity. She also suggests that parents shouldn’t let their children use the Internet for more than two hours a day, five days a week.8. What does the underlined part ,"that train has left the station" mean in Paragraph 2?A. The train has changed its course.B. The Internet has improved peopled life.C. Life without the Internet is nowhere to be found.D. The Internet brings great changes to people's life.9. What can we know about the study according to Paragraph 4?A. Over half of the teens in the study were heavy Internet users.B. Most of the young people had high blood pressure.C. Adult people aged above 17 took part in the study.D. There was no similar study like it before.10. Which of the following would Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow probably agree with?A. That teenagers shouldn't use the Internet.B. That the Internet will ruin human life in the future.C. That smartphones are more harmful than computers.D. That regular breaks are necessary when using the Internet.11. What does the text mainly talk about?A. Heavy Internet users are mostly teenagers.B. How to prevent teenagers from using the Internet.C. Too much Internet use may be bad for teenagers.D. Every coin has two sides — so does the Internet.DA teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure(安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don't allow their teenagers enough independence.Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to goanywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurted if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.Teenagers' lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say that this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don't think so. Instead, isn't this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate better with their friends.Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I'm not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.12.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?A.Kids know how to live independently.B.Some parents allow their kids no freedom.C.It benefits teenagers to have freedom.D.Kids have a dull routine every day13.In the opinion of the author, ___________.A.parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friendsB.good friendships between kids harm their school workC.it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphoneD.kids should focus on the school work14.How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?A.DisappointedB.LuckyC.AngryD.Calm15.The author hopes to have her door locked in order to ______________.A.keep her father from reading her dairyB.prevent her mother entering her roomC.Protect herself from any harmD.Stop thieves from going in第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AWith smartphones rapidly becoming the most common mobile device (设备) throughout countries, an increasing number of teenagers have access to the Internet using their phones. And if they have access to the Internet they have access to Apps (an App is a small program designed to run on mobile devices). Most Apps popular with teenagers are either for play, connecting with friends, or both at the same time. Here are some of the most popular Apps teens are downloading at the moment. Draw SomethingIt's a very popular App at the moment. It's an online version (版本) of Pictionary, where you invite friends on Facebook to compete. Each round you are given 3 words to choose from of which you must draw. Your competitor must guess correctly so that both of you can receive coins to buy additional colour tools. Fun for any age.InstagramThis App is about sharing photos. Similar to Twitter, you follow people and they follow you. New photos show up in a “news feed” where you can comment on photos. You can also view popular photos and have the choice of making your photos public (everyone can see them) and anyone can “follow” you. It's a good idea to consider privacy settings asonce photos are uploaded (上传) anyone can have access to them.ViddySimilar to Instagram, except it's all about videos. Film a video and immediately upload it. Again people can follow you and you can follow people. You can see “what's hot” — the most popular and newest videos. In addition you can share videos you have.OldifyThis is fun and easy to use. Scientists have isolated the antibiotics from microbes(微生物) found either from these insects or in soil particles trapped with them when they were caught by sticky tree risen up to 130 million years ago.Present-day antibiotics have nearly all been isolated from microbes that use them as a form of defense against their enemies and competitors. But since the introduction of antibiotics into medicine 50 years ago, an alarming number have become ineffective because many bacteria have developed resistance to the drugs. Research over the past two years has uncovered at least four antibiotics from the microbes and one has been able to kill modern drug-resistant bacteria that can cause potentially deadly diseases in humans.Raul Cano, who has pioneered the research at the California Polytechnic State University, said the ancient antibiotics had been successful in fighting drug-resistant strains of staphylococcus (葡萄球菌),a “superbug” that had threatened the health of patients in hospitals across the globe. He now intends to establish whether the antibiotics might have side effects. “The problem is how toxic they are to other cells and how easy they are to purify”,said Cano.Cano's findings have been acknowledged as a breakthrough. A biotechnology company, Ambergene, has been set up to develop the antibiotics into drugs. If any ancient microbes are revived (复活) that resemble present-day disease, they will be destroyed in case they escape and cause new epidemics. Drug companies will be anxious to study the chemical structures of the prehistoric antibiotics to see how they differ from modern drugs. They hope that one ancient molecule could be used as a basis to produce a range of drugs. However, even the use of ancient antibiotics may not stop the rise of drug-resistant bacteria. Stuart Levy warned that the bacteria would eventually evolve to fight back against the new drugs. “There might also be an enzyme already out there that can degrade it. So the only way to keep the life of that antibiotic going is to use it sensibly and not excessively,” he said.28. What problem has man faced since the use of antibiotics as medicineaccording to the passage?A. Antibiotics are very difficult to purify.B. Antibiotics do harm to human health.C. Antibiotics resemble some disease-causing bacteria.D. Antibiotics are becoming ineffective in fighting against bacteria.29. Why are Cano's findings considered as a breakthrough in science?A. His discoveries will help revive ancient microbes.B. His discoveries will put an end to the rise of drug-resistant bacteria.C. The company Ambergene has applied the prehistoric antibiotics to drugs.D. The prehistoric antibiotics proved more deadly against drug-resistant modern bacteria.30.According to the last paragraph, what is Stuart Levy's attitude towards the use of ancient antibiotics ?A. Cautious.B. Contradictory.C. Confident.D. Critical.31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A. Antibiotics-Dangerous or Not?B. Biotechnology Revealed Prehistoric SecretsC. Insect Antibiotics and Bacteria EvolutionD. Prehistoric Insects Might Help Invent New DrugsDNext week California will try to take cell phones from the hands of drivers, telling everyone from millionaires to workers that conversations behind the wheel must be on an earphone.Californians interviewed by Reuters mostly supported the law requiring hands-free phones in cars and banning cell phones entirely fordrivers under 18, which will take effect on Tuesday, though they were puzzled by a loophole(漏洞) that allows seemingly more dangerous text messaging. Some were doubtful about lawmakers, who they blamed for failing to build more freeways or public transportation in the face of increasingly crowded roads in the nation’s most populous stat e and said hands-free conversations were not safer.KFI-AM radio talk-show host John Kobylt told Reuters. “It's stupid because we’ve one over about seven different studies and each one of them says it’s the conversation that distracts you, not holding the phone.”State Senator Joe Simitian, who introduced the bill, said keeping both hands on the wheel was always safer. He expected his law to save hundreds of lives. The Democratic lawmaker was considering introducing a new law to ban text messaging in the ca r, which he said wasn’t an issue when he began working on the first one in 2001.Connecticut, New Jersey and New York have already banned drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones. In New Jersey, police have issued 35,000 tickets for using a hand-held phone or texting while driving since the law went into effect on March 1.But Californians interviewed by Reuters expressed ambivalence.“On the one hand I don’t want to see people crash into each other, but I'm not going to get an ear thing.” 38-year-old bank employee Jason Fischer said in Los Angeles.32. We can infer from Paragraph 2 that______.A. most Californians hate to use an earphone while making a call in the carB. public transportation in California isn’t developed enoughC. in New Jersey few people use a hand-held phoneD.most of Californians are probably against the new law33. According to John Kobylt,_________.A. all the lawmakers are stupidB. holding the phone is safer than using an earphoneC. it isn’t dangerous to make a phone call while drivingD. it is the phone conversation while driving that is really dangerous34.
