· · · · Although our situation was very bad,it’s difficult to feel too sorry for yourself when you look at what’s happening else where.I watched a newsreport about floods in Northern India and thought. “We didn’t have a straw hut(茅草房) that was swept away, and our house is still standing.W e ’re lucky.”

作者提到I watched a newsreport about floods in Northern India and thought.“We didn ‘t have a straw hut (茅草房) that was swept away, and our house is still

standing .We ‘re lucky .”

There was a time when some people’s lives were devoted simply to the cultivation of the land or the care of cattle.

No multi-tasking there; their lives went on at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar pattern. There is much that we might envy about a way of life like this. Yet before we do so, we must think of the hard tasks our ancestors faced; they farmed with bare hands, often lived close to hunger, and had to fashion tools from wood and stone. Modern machinery has freed people from that primitive existence.

What is the author’s attitude towards the modern technology

A. Critical

B. Objective.

C. Optimistic.

D. Negative.

Just as crying can be healthy, not crying—holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering —can be bad for physical(身体的) health. Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illnesses. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don’t fight it. It’s a natural—and healthy—emotional response(反应).

●According to the author, which of the following statements is true

A. Crying is the best way to get help from others.

B. Fighting back tears may cause some health problems.

C. We will never know our deep feelings unless we cry.

D. We must cry if we want to reduce pressure.

Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities. Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventure--- those who have climbed the highest mountains, traveled into unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now, however, there are people who look for an immediate excitement from a risky activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.

I would consider bungee jumping(蹦极跳)to be a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place (perhaps a bridge or a hot air balloon) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic(有弹性的)rope tied to your ankles. You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that about 2 million people

around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Other activities which most people would say as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high cliffs.

Why do people take part in such activities as these Some psychologists(心理学家)suggest that it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring. Not very long ago, people's lives were constantly in danger. They had to go out and hunt for food, diseases could not easily be cured and life was a continuous battle for survival(生存).

Nowadays, according to many people, life offers little excitement. They live and work in comparatively safe conditions; they buy food in shops; and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill. The answer for some of these people is to look for danger in activities such as bungee jumping.

●The writer of the text has a ____ attitude(态度)towards dangerous sports.

A. positive(肯定的)

B. negative(否定的)

C. neutral (中立的)

D. nervous

The city of Rome has passed a new to prevent cruelty to animals. All gold fish bowls are no longer allowed and dog owners must walk their dogs.

36 .The new law passed in Rome will______.

A .help improve fishing environment

B .guarantee better conditions for goldfish

C .stop people from catching goldfish

D .discourage keeping goldfish at home

When early humans hunted and gathered food, they were not in control of their environment. They could only interact with their surroundings as lower organisms did. When humans learned to make fire, however, they became capable of altering their environment. To provide themselves with fuel they stripped bark from trees, causing the trees to die. Clearings were burned in forests to increase the growth of grass and to provide a greater grazing area for the wild animals that humans fed upon. This development led to farming and the domestication of animals. Fire also provided the means for cooking plants which had previously been inedible. Only when the process of meeting the basic need for food reached a certain level of sophistication was it possible for humans to follow other pursuits such as the founding of cities.

●The paragraph following this passage would most likely be about ____________.

A. fire

B. hunting

C. farming

D. urbanization (城市化)

5 8.The author writes this passage in order to ______ .

A .attract readers to visit the city of Bath

C .tell readers about Jane Austen’s experience

D .give a brief introduction to the Jane Austen Society

The

author is suggesting the readers visit to Bath .

“Have you ever been out on a boat and felt it lifted up by a wave Or have you jumped in the water and felt the rush of energy as waves came over you”asked Jamie Taylor of the Wave Energy Group at the University of Edinburgh. “There is certainly a lot of energy in waves,”he said.

●The writer uses the two questions at the beginning of the passage to ______.

A. test the readers’knowledge about waves

B.draw the readers’attention to the topic

The Cost of Higher Education

Many people believe that higher education should be free because it is good for the economy (经济). Many graduates clearly do contribute to national wealth, but so do all the businesses that invest (投资)and create jobs. If you believe that the government should pay for higher education because graduates are economically productive, you should also believe that the government should pay part of business costs. Anyone promising to create jobs should receive a gift of capital from the government to invest.

Therefore, it is the individual, not the government, who should pay for their university education.

The author mentions businesses in Paragraph 5 in order to ________.

A.argue against free university education

B.call on them to finance students’ studies

C.encourage graduates to go into business

D.show their contribution to higher education

It went to the woman's home. On seeing her, the elephant waved its trunk and touched her with it. The young woman was so moved by the act of the animal that she returned to her husband's home.

B. tell how a woman trained a wild animal

C. show that women care more for animals than men do

Florence Chadwick saw nothing but a solid wall of fog. Her body was numb. She had been swimming for nearly sixteen hours. Already she was the first woman to swim the English Channel in both directions. Now at the age of 34, her goal was to become the first woman to swim from Catalina to the California coast. On that fourth of July morning 1952, the sea was like an ice bath and the fog was so dense. She could hardly see her support boats. Sharks cruised toward her figure, only to be driven away by rifle shots. Against the frigid grip of the sea, she struggled on, hour after hour, while millions watched on national television. Alongside Florence in one of the boats, her mother and here trainer offered encouragement. They told her it wasn’t much fa rther. But all she could see was fog. They urged her not to quit. She never had… until then. With only a half mile to go, she asked to be pulled out. What does “she never had…”in the third paragraph mean? A. She had never been so desperate.

Here are six steps to better studying. Pay attention in class Do you have trouble paying attention in class? Are you sitting next to a loud person? Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from paying attention. Take good notes Write down facts that your teacher mentions or writes on the board. Try to use good handwriting so you can read your notes later. It's a good idea to keep your notes organized by subject. Plan ahead for tests and projects Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday's test will make it hard to do your best. One of the best ways to make sure that doesn't happen is to plan ahead. Write down your test dates. You can then plan how much to do after school each day, and how much time to spend on each topic. Break it up When there's a lot to study, it can help to break things into several parts. Let's say you have a spelling test on 20 words. Instead of thinking about all of the words at once, try breaking them down into five-word groups and work on one or two different groups each night. Ask for help You can't study effectively if you don't understand the material. Be sure to ask your teacher for help. If you're at home when the confusion occurs, your mom or dad might be able to help. Sleep tight So the test is tomorrow and you've followed your study plan—but suddenly you can't remember anything! Don't panic. Your brain needs time to digest all the information you've given it. Try to get a good night's sleep and you'll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning. (1)We know from the passage that a loud person is ________. A. a student who always answers questions loudly in class B. someone who likes to talk with others in a loud voice C. a student who likes speaking with others in class D. a person who makes a lot of noise in public places (2)If you don't understand what you have learnt, you can ________. A. read your notes over and over again B. turn to people around you for help C. put aside the material for later review D. ask your teacher to explain it the next day (3)By saying “Sleep tight”, what does the author mean?

1. It can be inferred from the text that… 2. We can conclude that… 3. When the writer talks about..., what he really means is that… 4. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage? It can be inferred from the passage/text that_________. The author mainly suggests that ________. It can be concluded from the passage that_______. The writer implies but not directly states _______. 1) The purpose in writing this text is to __________. 2) The author writes this passage to __________. 3) The author in this passage intends to __________. 1) It can be inferred from the passage that __________. 2) What conclusion can be drawn from the passage? 3) From the passage we can conclude that __________. 1)The passage is most likely to be taken from_________. 2)Where would this passage most probably appear? 3)The passage is most likely a part of_________.

Training for a marathon requires careful preparation and steady, gradual increases in the length of the runs. 36 , buy the best-fitting, best-built running shoes you can find. (2015新课标卷II) A. After six days B. For a good marathon runner C. Before you begin your training E. If they still feel good, you can begin running in them 解析:从句式结构上看,逗号后是祈使句,没有连词,正确答案要么是带有连词的从句,要么是一个短语,只有A、B、C、E四个选项符合,这样就缩小了选择范围;根据空前句中的preparation (准备),和常识可知是“训练前”,故选C项。 4.

英语阅读理解推理判断之观点态度题 真题感悟: (2018·浙江,C) As cultural symbols go,the American car is quite young. The Model T Ford was built at the Piquette Plant in Michigan a century ago, with the first rolling off the assembly line(装配线) on September 27,1908.Only eleven cars were produced the next month. But eventually Henry Ford would build fifteen million of them. Modern America was born on the road, behind a wheel. The car shaped some of the most lasting aspects of American culture:the roadside diner, the billboard, the motel, even the hamburger. For most of the last century, the car represented what it meant to be American—going forward at high speed to find new worlds. The road novel, the road movie, these are the most typical American ideas, born of abundant petrol, cheap cars and a never-ending interstate highway system, the largest public works project in history. In 1928 Herbert Hoover imagined an America with “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.” Since then, this society has moved onward, never looking back,as the car transformed America from a farm-based society into an industrial power. The cars that drove the American Dream have helped to create a global ecological disaster. In America the demand for oil has grown by 22 percent since 1990. The problems of excessive(过度的) energy consumption, climate change and population growth have been described in a book by the American writer Thomas L.Friedman.He fears the worst, but hopes for the best. Friedman points out that the green economy(经济)is a chance to keep American strength.“The ability to design, build and export green technologies for producing clean water, clean air and healthy and abundant food is going to be the currency of power in the new century.” 30.What is Friedman’s attitude towards America’s future? A.Ambiguous. B.Doubtful. C.Hopeful. D.Tolerant.
