Eating a different and balanced diet is important for anyone. It helps to make eating more enjoyable and will help you to stay healthy and active.

1. Eat lots of fruit and vegetable

Most people know we should be eating more fruit and vegetable. But most of us still aren’t eating enough. Try to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetable every day. It might be easier than you think. For example, you could have

Jean Driscoll was born to be an athlete. Being born with a problem in her spine(脊柱)did not stop her. In fact, Driscoll has won the wheelchair division of the Boston Marathon seven times. She has also won medals in shorter races at the Olympics and the Paralympics(残运会). She is a star basketball player.

As a child Driscoll wore leg braces (脚支架)to help her walk. However, she enjoyed sports with other kids and taught herself to ride a bike. When Driscoll was 14, she fell off her bike and injured her hip(臀部). After that she had to use a wheelchair.

At first Driscoll feared that being in a wheelchair meant giving up sports. Then a friend talked her into trying wheelchair soccer. Driscoll loved it. By the time she went to college, Driscoll was a good athlete in wheelchair sports such as soccer, tennis, and ice hockey.

Driscoll’s college coach told her to try racing marathon distances — more than 26 miles. Driscoll won the 1990 Boston Marathon on her first try. In 1994 she lowered her time by almost ten minutes. To do this, Driscoll sometimes reached downhill speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour!

Years of walking with crutches gave Driscoll a strong upper body. She trains hard six days a week. In the gym Driscoll lifts 200-pound weights, almost twice her body weight.

Outdoors, Driscoll races along in her chair for 25 miles at a stretch. She trains for racing up hills by having three people hold on to the back of her chair while she climbs the hill.

Driscoll also uses a special wheelchair that weighs only 17 pounds. This helps her reach racing speeds of more than 16 miles an hour.

Today Jean Driscoll is still a top racer. She also travels around the country giving speeches to motivate kids to do their best. You can guess what she tells her audiences: “Dream bi g and work hard.”

When I was a young student at the Tennessee School for the Blind, I was very lucky to be in your English class. Many things changed when you arrived. We needed a teacher, and you were there.

It wasn’t very long before we realized that you were teaching us much more than English. You taught us that it was repectable to be blind. You taught us that with hard work we could get any aims we set for ourselves. We needed a good model, and you were there.

As we grow older, many of us joined the organized blind movement in the 1960’s. We looked at you, and you moved bravely forward, leading us moving forward. We needed a leader, and you were there.

There are no words to describe the influence that you personaly have had on the lives of tens of thousands of blind people, youg and old, rich and poor. Because of you, many of us have achieved our aims. We needed a friend, and you were there.

It was a class for students to learn about career plans. At the beginning of the class, the teacher asked the students to talk about what they would like to be in the future. Most of the students took turns to show their ideas actively.

One boy put up his hand and shouted, “I want to be a doctor.” Another girl said, “I want t o be a businesswoman.” And so it went on. The teacher smiled and said, “我很高兴你们都有梦想.”

However, the boy sitting in the back of the classroom looked confused and didn’t say anything. The teacher noticed that and asked, “ How about you, Jimmy? ” Jimmy answered, “ I don’t know what I want to do in the future.” And his classmates started to laugh. The teacher stopped them and said, “Boys and girls, listen! . If you already have some ideas, it’s good. But if not, that’s OK because all the school subjects can help you learn about what you are able to do well and so does joining clubs. So, just be an active student. Try your best to enjoy the career –exploring adventure.”

2. I’m glad you all have dreams.”

Module 1 When I arrived, it was early morning and it was raining. I got out of the car, went through a gate and walked along a path. In the east, the sky was becoming light. I knew it was there, but there was nothing to see. After about a mile, a stranger appeared in front of me. “Am I going the right way?” I asked. He knew where I was going. “Yes,” he replied. “you’ll get there in five minutes.” Finally, I came to some rocks and stopped. I looked over them, but it was silent and there was no sign of it. Suddenly, the clouds cleared and the rain stopped. The sun rose behind me and beyond the rocks. I saw that the ground fell away and down to a river, far below me. I was looking across the Grand Canyon, one of the wonders of the natural world. I looked down to the Colorado River, from here a silver stream nearly one mile below me. If you put the two tallest buildings in the world on top of the each other at the bottom of the canyon, they still wouldn’t reach the top. Then I looked across to the other side of the canyon. How far is it? It’s about fifteen miles, maybe more. Finally, I looked to my left and to my right, and on both sides the canyon went far away, about 277 miles long. The Grand Canyon is not just big. It’s huge! I remained by the canyon for about half an hour, and I asked myself, “Is the Grand Canyon the greatest wonder anywhere in the natural world?” I certainly know the answer. But what do you think? Module 2 Thanksgiving is an American festival. People give thanks for their food. It’s celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November and it’s a time for a special dinner among family and friends. We’ve celebrated the festival since the first pioneers from England arrived in America by ship in the seventeenth century. While they were crossing the Atlantic, many people died, and after they landed, their first winter was worse than any English winter. The local people, the Native Americans, taught the pioneers how to grow corn, catch fish and keep cows, sheep and hens. The following year they celebrated together by eating a dinner of the new food. We still celebrate Thanksgiving today with a traditional dinner. The kitchen is the most crowded room in our house because we all help to prepare the food there. We lay the table, then before we begin dinner, my father gives praise for the food, so we remember where the festival comes from. We usually eat too much, but it’s only once a year! We often listen to speeches and tell stories after dinner as well. When it’s all over everyone helps wash the dishes.
