At the end of my senior year of high school,I got a job working at a local coffee shop.I thought the job would be easy and stress-free.I pictured myself pouring the best coffees, making delicious doughnuts (炸面包圈),and becoming friends with regular customers.

I wasn’t expecting the people with enormous orders, the women who complained that the coffee was much too creamy (含乳脂的),or the men who wanted their iced coffees remade again and again until they reached perfection.I couldn’t seem to please anyone. One rainy day,one of my regular customers came in looking upset. He said he felt like getting in bed, pulling the sheets up over his head, and staying there for a few years.I knew exactly how he felt.

Before he left,I handed him a bag along with his iced coffee. He was surprised, since he hadn’t ordered anything but coffee.I had given him his favourite type of doughnut.

“Its on me,” I told him.“Have a nice day.”

He smiled and thanked me before heading back out into the rain.

The next day,it was still raining.I spent my afternoon hanging out the window handing people their orders.I was completely wet and freezing cold.Worse,no one was tipping that day.Every time I looked into our empty tip jar,I grew more depressed.

In the evening, the customer from the day before drove up to the window. He handed me a pink rose and a note.He said that not many people took time to care about others and he was glad there were still people like me in the world. With a friendly wave,he drove away.

I ran to the back of the shop and read the note. It read:

Christine,

Thanks for being so sweet, kind and thoughtful yesterday. It is so nice to meet someone who’s indeed nice. Please don’t change your ways! Have a great day!—Hank

After that, whenever I felt depressed or sick of coffee,I thought of Hank and his kindness. Then I would smile, hold my head up high, clear my throat and ask politely,“How can I help you?”

The roads that wind along the Seine used to be full of heavy traffic.Today, cyclists are enjoying the waterside peace. On the right bank opposite the Eiffel Tower, cars have been made to travel in a single lane (车道),leaving the other to bicycles.

A sense of being controlled is felt by the capital’s car owners.Anne Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor of Paris,is starting “a war against cars”.

As part of the city hall’s plan to increase the share of trips taken by bicycle from 5% to 15% by 2020,protected cycling lanes are being lengthened along some of the city’s main roads.A whole road on the busy Rue de Rivoli is being changed into a two-way bike route. The left bank’s road was closed to cars in 2013,six years after the city made a bike-sharing plan.

“Paris is not anti-car,but anti-pollution,”says Jean-Louis Missika, the head of planning at the city hall.Pollution levels in the city are especially high. With its narrow streets, the government is trying its best to reduce cars that do not carry passengers.Fully 80% of cars running in central Paris carry only one person, and 79% of those on its roads are privately

owned.BlaBlaCar,a French ride-sharing startup, recently introduced BlaBlaLines,a new app produced to help people who travel to and from work share cars.

The war against cars started by Ms Hidalgo is also a rethink of how the city should start an age that will be shaped by electric cars and driverless transport.“It will be as great as the change from horse-drawn carriages to cars,” says Mr Missika. He expects to see the first driverless six-person taxis in Paris next year, and says that city hall will ban privately owned cars in the centre by 2025-2030.

Get a Thorough Understanding of Oneself

In all one’s lifetime,it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with.12

When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate (高估) yourself. It seems that everything you seek for is within your reach.13It’s likely that you think it wise for yourself to stay away from the outer world.Actually,to get a thorough understanding of oneself, you may as well keep the following tips in mind.

Gain a correct view of oneself. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much, for dreams can never be fully realised. You may be courageous to meet challenges but it should be clear to you where to direct your efforts.14

Self-appreciation.Whether you compare yourself to a high mountain or a small stone, you represent a state of nature.15If you earnestly (诚挚地) admire yourself you’ll have a real sense of self-appreciation.

16In time of anger,do yourself a favour by releasing (释放) it in a quiet place so that you won’t be hurt by its flames;in time of sadness,do yourself a favour by sharing it with your friends so as to change a bad mood into a cheerful one;in time of tiredness,do yourself a favour by getting a good sleep.

Get a full control of one’s life. Then one will find one’s life full of colour and flavour.

A.It has its own value.

B.Do oneself a favour when it’s needed.

C.Do yourself a favour when you resist the attack of illness.

D.But it is precisely oneself that one has the least understanding of.

E.Especially if it is well within your reach, you are just too blind to see it.

F.When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself.

G.So long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself, there won’t be difficulties you

can’t overcome.

三短文改错(10X2)

I am grateful to my English teacher Susan, at whose help I couldn't have won first prize in the English Talent Competition for high school student last week.

I used to be poorly in spoken English. I was too shy to speak in class. Since she teaches us last term, she has been encouraging him to overcome fear and speak out in class. Thanks to her, I have made great progresses. Besides, I practiced several times in the front of her.It was her advice which made me a better speaker and full of confidence. But I owe my success to her.

Susan set a good example to me. I am determined to become an English teacher when I grow up.

高一英语下学期期中试题(5)

阜蒙县第二高中2017~2018学年度第二学期高一期中考试 英语试卷 时间:100分钟分数:120分 第一部分:阅读理解(共两节;第一节:共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分) A On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You're nervous and that's okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends. On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle(迷宫) that I couldn't figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn't think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it! The schoolmates seemed to regard me as a fool, and they were probably right. Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging. Since then, I've been elected vice monitor of my class, which wasn't much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions. It is normal to be scared about a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. High school is something that any student can overcome. Make sure you participate in some outofclass activities because you'll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn't straight A's. Most important of all, be who you are, whether you're a “fool”, an athlete, or a lower grader. Don't try to pretend to be someone you're not. Now you know the true secrets of high school. 1. The main reason for the author's fear on his first day is that ________. A.he was not familiar with the new surroundings B.his schoolmates were unfriendly to him C.he was unable to work out the puzzle D.his schoolbag was too heavy for him to carry 2. From the author's first day experience we can infer that ________. A.he didn't know the right way to class B.he got to school before classes began C.he was fond of the school immediately. D.his home was far from the school 3. After his first week at school, the author ________. A.was still not accustomed to the schedule B.gradually adjusted himself to the new school C.found high school not so challenging as he had imagined D.ran for monitor of his class against three other students 4. According to the passage, the secret of the author's success lies mainly in________.

2019-2020年第二学期牛津译林版高一下英语期中复习——七选五精选训练(word版含答案)

2019-2020学年第二学期高一下英语期中考试 七选五精选训练 A If you are already making the time to exercise, it is good indeed! With such busy lives, it can be hard to try and find the time to work out. 1 Working out in the morning provides additional benefits beyond being physically fit. ● Your productivity is improved. Exercising makes you more awake and ready to handle whatever is ahead of you for the day. 2 ● Your metabolism (新陈代谢) gets a head start. 3 If you work out in the mornings, then you will be getting the calorie (卡路里) burning benefits for the whole day, not in your sleep. ● 4 Studies found that people who woke up early for exercise slept better than those who exercised in the evening. Exercise energizes you, so it is more difficult to relax and have a peaceful sleep when you are very excited. ● 5 If you work out bright and early in the morning, you will be more likely to stick to healthy food choices throughout the day. Who would want to ruin their good workout by eating junk food? You will want to continue to focus on positive choices. There are a lot of benefits to working out, especially in the mornings.
