三、阅读理解(每小题2分,满分10分)

A

Many people love eagles because they can fly very high into the blue sky. But did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is coming long before it breaks?

When the storm is coming, the eagle will fly high to the sky and wait for the winds to come.

When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages (肆虐) below, the eagle is soaring above (在……上飞翔) it. The eagle does not run away from the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon us – and all of us will experience them – we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward life. The storms do not have to overcome (战胜) us. We can make use. We must believe of the great power deep in our hearts to lift us above them and that we can overcome all the storms. The winds of the storm can bring sickness, sadness, failure and disappointment in our lives, but we can soar above the storm by riding them.

Remember, it is not the burdens (负担) of life that matter, but how we deal with them.

31. Why do so many people love eagles?

A. Because they can fly high into the sky.

B. Because they can run away from the storm.

C. Because they are not afraid of people.

D. Because they are strong.

32. What does the eagle do when the storm hits?

B. It uses the storm to lift it higher.

C. It stops the storm from coming.

D. It tells others about the storm.

33. How can we rise above the storms of life?

A. By hiding ourselves in a safe place.

B. By setting our minds and our belief toward life.

C. By running away from them.

D. By letting them overcome us.

34. What does the write want to tell us?

A. The storms of life can never bring us sadness, so we needn’t run away.

B. We should watch the eagle carefully to know when the storm will come.

C. We should be brave enough when we experience the storms of life.

D. We should learn to fly a plane in the storms of life.

35. In the writer’s opinion, what really matters?

You either have it, or you don’t-a sense of direction. But why is it that some people could find their way across the Sahara without a map while others can lose themselves in the next street?

Scientists say we’re all born with a sense of direction, but it is not proper ly understood how it works. One theory is that people with a good sense of direction have simply worked harder at developing it. Research being carried out at Liverpool University supports this idea and suggests that if we don’t use it, we lose it.

“Children as young as seven have the ability to find their way around,” says Jim Martland, research director of the project. “However, if they are not allowed out alone or are taken everywhere by car, they never develop the skills.”

Jim Martland also emphasizes that young people should be taught certain skills to improve their sense of direction. He makes the following suggestions:

If you are using a map, turn it so that it relates to(与……有联系) the way you are facing.

If you leave your bike in a strange place, put it near something like a big stone or a tree-something easy to recognize. Note landmarks on the route as you go away from your bike. When you return, go back along the same route.

Simplify(简化) the way for finding your direction by using lines such as streets in a town, streams, or wells in the countryside to guide you. Count your steps so that you know how far you have gone and note any landmarks such as tower blocks or hills which can help to find out where you are.

Now you will never get lost again!

36. Children have the ability to find the way around when they are ______years old.

Making robots needs software engineers(软件工程师), mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and computer engineers, but I think software engineers play the most important part. A mechanical engineer will design the robot’s body. Electrical engineers will design the robot’s controlling, power, signal receiving, etc. Electro-mechanical engineers may work on the robot’s sensors(传感器). Computer engineers will design the robot’s brain. Now companies are hiring robotics engineers to develop everything from automated vacuum cleaners (自动吸尘器) to robot dogs. So do you want to be a robotics engineer? How do you find an effective way to get started to become a robotics engineer?

Here’s how I became a robotics engineer. It started with trying to build a robotic hand as a teenager in my parents’ garage. This was after I first learned how servo systems (随动系统) worked. So I only got the servo part working, but it was a start. Later I went to college to get an undergraduate degree (学士学位) as an electrical engineer. After that I worked as an electrical engineer for three years. I designed several automatic control systems that were very interesting. Then I went back to school, this time as a mechanical engineer, and completed all the undergraduate mechanical engineering courses. After that I also received a Master’s degree and the degree of PhD on robotics.

If you are interested in becoming a robotics engineer and would like to chat by email, please feel free to contact me.

( )41. Who play the most important part in making robots?

A. Computer engineers.

B. Mechanical engineers.

C. Electrical engineers.

D. Software engineers.

( )42. What does a mechanical engineer design while making a robot?

A. The robot’s brain.

B. The robot’s body.

C. The robot’s power.

D. The robot’s sensors.

( )43. What did the writer do when he worked as an electrical engineer?

A. He built a robotic hand.

B. He got the servo system working.

C. He designed some automatic control systems.

D. He completed all the mechanical engineering courses.

A. Making automated vacuum cleaners and robot dogs needs robotics engineers.

B. People who want to become a robotics engineer can call the writer.

C. The writer started to learn about robotics when he was a young boy.

D. The writer learned and got four degrees before becoming a robotics engineer.

( )45. What’s the purpose of the passage?

A. To tell people it’s difficult to get the degree of PhD on robotics.

B. To tell people what they should learn before becoming a robotics engineer.

C. To call on more and more people to become robotics engineers.

D. To make friends with people who like robotics engineering.

Any discussion of entertainment robots has to include Disney World. They have been making entertainment robots for many years and they do it quite well. With dancing bears and singing pirates (海盗), Disney World has created thousands of robots. The robot shown in the picture is a robot dinosaur named Lucky. He walks on his two back legs and pulls a very large cart (二轮马车) of “silk flowers”. Really the cart is full of batteries.

I don’t go to the amusement park, but I’m sure my kids would love to. According to the manufacturer (制造商), KUKA Robotics, this is the first robotic arm with world-wide certification (合格证) to hold humans. KUKA makes robotic arms of very high quality for the amusement park, so I would let my kids ride it.

No one can forget the pet robots that have come onto the market in the last decade (十年) or so. Sony’s Aibo robots (two of which are shown in the picture) have been the first robots to really spread through every part of our homes.

Some entertainment robots are not just remote-controlled (遥控的) speakerphones with video camera “eyes”. They can also go around at parties and play pre-recorded songs.
