Other products can't be compared with it.

B: Yes, not too bad. Our sales are going up year after year. And we still have a large potential production capacity.

A: Well, do you think of choosing a commission representative or agent abroad to promote your sales?

B: That’s a good idea. So far, we have several agents abroad.

A: We are willing to be your agent in Thailand for hand-tools. What’s your idea?

B: It coincides with our desire.

A: Then, what’s your us ual commission rate for your agents?

B: Usually, we give a commission of 3% to our agents.

A: 3% is too low, I think. You see, we have a lot of work to do in promoting the sales, such as advertising on radio or TV, printing booklets, leaflets, catalogues,and so on. It all costs. 3% is not enough.

B: Don’t worry. We’ll allow you a higher commission rate if your sales score a substantial increase.

A: You mean to say……

B: Now, if you sell US$ 2 million worth of hand-tools annually, we can only allow 3% commission. If the annual turnover exceeds US$ 5 million, you can get 5% commission. What do you think of that?

Lesson 7 Payment Terms 付款方式

Could you make an exception, say, to accept D/P?

A:I would like to bend the rules a little if possible, but we accept D/P only if the amount is under USD2,000.

This is not the case now. We could only accept confirmed, irrevocable L/C.

B: As you are aware, payment by L/C is a bit complicated and expensive.

Let's do this: if you can reduce the price by 2% and give us three months to raise money, we'd be willing to give you a 10% down payment.

A: And the balance by 90 days L/C?

B: Yes.

A: I'm afraid I'm not in a position to give you an immediate answer.

I'll have to consult my head office.

Well, my head office says the best we can do is to accept 60 days L/C.

B:60 days? That's all right.

A: But we wish to point out that it is only with a view to encouraging future deals with you that we are accommodating you this time.

B:OK. I'm glad that we have settled the payment terms.

D/P 即Documents against Payment 付款交单, 是出口人的交单以进口人的付款为条件,即出口人将汇票连同货运单据交给银行托收时,指示银行只有在进口人付清货款时,才能交出货运单据。按支付时间的不同,付款交单又分为即期付款交单(D/P sight)和远期付款交单(D/P after sight).

A: It does look good, especially the little swan.

B: Thank you. We understand that your people regard the swan as a symbol of good luck.

A: Most of them do. But the background color should be a little lighter.

B: No problem. What do you think of our logo?

A: Very good. Maybe you should move it a little closer to the middle.

B: All right. Do you have any ideas about the outer packing?

A: You mentioned cartons, didn't you? I'm afraid cartons are not strong enough.

B: But we're only talking about shirts. They're not fragile goods.

Besides, cartons are light and easy to handle.

B: There's no need to worry. We can reinforce the cartons with straps.

and our customs formalities are rather complicated.

B: I understand.

A: Well, the flow through the marketing channels and the red tape involved take at least a couple of weeks.

So, after shipment it will probably be another four to five weeks before the goods can reach our retailers.

So the goods really ought to be shipped before October, or we won't be ready for the season.

B: Our factories are fully committed for the third quarter, in fact, many of our clients are placing orders for delivery in the fourth quarter.

B: Mr. Li , certainly you realize that time of delivery is a matter of great importance to us.
