Analysis of the text

This essay is a piece of argumentation on the necessity and significance of good manners. In the beginning part ,the writer puts forward his viewpoint: nowadays, many people show a lack of good manners, they are less friendly or less polite than people in the past. The he illustrates his viewpoint with specific examples he witnesses in New York. In the next three paragraphs, the writer raises and proves his opinion: good manners are a sort of hidden beauty secret; your good manners make you feel better and looker better, contributing to building up your nice image. From paragraph 4 to paragraph 10, the writer points out and illustrates the favorable influence of some specific good manners on the receivers. In the last paragraph the writer concludes that good manners are infectious; meanwhile, he expresses his sincere wish for a polite society where everybody would behave politely.

Clearly, the text is characterized by the ingenious use of a variety of sentences as well as of proper words and phrases. Some metaphorical expressions-----melt away, go a long way, good manners are infectious, etc----are employed to bring out the nice effects and create wonderful images of good manners. Also, some rhetorical questions are used for emphatic effect.

Analysis of the paragraphs

Paragraph 1 constitutes the beginning part of the text. In this part the writer states and proves that many people in present times are not as polite as people in the past. He convincingly illustrates this social phenomenon with specific impolite manners he sees in New York..

From paragraph 2 to 4, the writer puts forward and bears out the following viewpoints: you can not be truly stylish without good manners; good manners are a sort of hidden beauty secret and adds pricelessly to your image.

From paragraph 5 to 10, the writer states and expounds the great power of some typical good manners he proposes upon those on the receiving end. Also, in these paragraphs the writer reasonably explains and vividly illustrates the good effects polite manners have on our family members. Paragraph 5 points out and exemp lifies with a personal experience of the writer’s that saying “Thank You “ does wonders for the person on the receiving end. The 6th paragraph advises us that writing a delayed thank you note is much better than not writing at all. Paragraph 7 emphasizes and illustrates that the simple phrase “Excuse me” is just as powerful as a than k you note. Paragraph 8 suggests and exemplifies that helping others do something, including a hotel bellman, and being punctual for what we do are highly appreciated polite behaviors. Paragraph 9 and 10 emphasize the great importance of good manners with our family members and illustrate with examples the remarkable effects of showing good manners towards our own families.

Paragraph 11 is the concluding paragraph in which the writer advances his opinion that good manners are infectious and expresses his sincere wish that everyone would be polite and show good manners.

Lesson1 1、the branch of scientific analysis, which deals with motions, time, and forces, is called mechanics and is made up of two parts, statics and dynamics. Statics deals with the analysis of stationary systems, i.e., those in which time is not a factor, and dynamics deals with systems, which change with time. 2、Any two such forces acting on a body constitute a couple. The arm of the couple is the perpendicular distance between their lines of action, and the plane of the couple is the plane containing the two lines of action. 3、Mechanics deal with two kinds of quantities: scalars and vectors. Scalar quantities are those with which a magnitude alone is associated. Examples of scalar quantities in mechanics are time, volume, density, speed, energy, and mass. Vector quantities, on the other hand, possess direction as well as magnitude. Examples of vectors are displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, moment, and momentum. Lesson2(此课后面没翻译,翻译的不太准确谅解) 1 、The turning of a part in a lathe is another example of several forces in action.(as shown in figure1) 车床车削是一些力在起作用的另一个例子。figure1(如图)。 2 、If this workpiece is held between the centers of the lathe, the centers exert a compressive force against the work. 3、 Rotary motion is required to drill holes, turn parts in a lathe, mill surfaces, or drive a generator or fan belt. 扶轮运动需要去钻孔,在车床上转换两件,表面,或驱动发电机或风扇皮带 4 、Harmonic and Intermittent Motion(谐和运动和间歇运动): Any simple vibration, such as the regular back, and forth movement of the end of a pendulum, is simple harmonic motion.

UNIT 6 Future Life Section B

What are you going to do after graduation? I’d like to be a (an)… How come? Have you made a career plan? Because I love…and I can… May your dream come true! What are you going to do after graduation? How come? May your dream come true!
