The course is a specialized basic curriculum of safety engineering. It closely integrates with the common ―people, machines, people –machine‖ in field of production, life, survival and other areas. From labor physiology, labor psychology, biomechanics and other aspects it studies the high production efficiency brought about by mechanization, automation, electronic and multi-disciplinary production technology. At the same time it researches the actions, the mechanism and the personal threshold which gives someone unfavorable factors like casualties and hazards, and the methods and measures of prevention and elimination. Engineering Mechanics is a subject researching the mechanical movement of object and the carrying capacity of component. It covers the main classic contents of the courses such as theoretical mechanics and mechanics of materials. The part of theoretical mechanics is further divided into three branches: statics, kinematics and dynamics, and it is to abstract object into rigid body, and to research the external effect upon applying force on object, i.e., to research the general rule of mechanical movement of object. The mechanics of materials is to abstract object into deformable body, and to research the internal effect upon applying force, i.e., to research the strength, rigidity and stability of component. This course is the base for the study of mechanics, and has a wide range of applications in many areas of engineering. Structural mechanics is a foundation course. Through the study of this course, students can grasp the calculated principles and methods about the internal forces and displacement of the simple, and realize the stress properties of common structure. The course introduces the basic knowledge about force, cultivates the students’ analytical and calculated ability.

This course is divided into 8 chapters. Chapter 1 is the preface, it is mainly about the research subjects and tasks of structural mechanics, the structural classification and research methods; chapter 2 is about the geometric analysis of the system, it makes the students know the components of the structure, master the basic concepts; chapter 3 discusses the static structural force analysis about several typical structure; in chapter 4, the calculation of static structural displacement is mentioned, and the solution of hyperstatic structure and the structural stiffness is the focus; chapter 5 includes the basic principles of force method, enables the students to deeply understand the transformation between the static structure and the hyperstatic structure; chapter 6 is about displacement method, one of the basic solutions about the hyperstatic structure, students must set up displacement equation skillfully; chapter 7 is about the distribution of torque.
