II. Introducing the Subject and the outline of the Pr esentation引入话题 Bac kground Infor mation

I would like to start by briefly r eviewing the histor y of open heart surger y.

Let us start with the theor etical basis of this new technique.

To begin w ith, we have to consider the principle.

I think it woul d be best to start out by looking at a few slides.

I should like to pr efac e my r emar ks with a de script ion of the basic idea.

May I begin w ith a gener al outline of this project?

The first thing I would like to talk about is the definition of the ter ms I shall use in my lec ture.

The first point I'd like to make is the historic al bac kground of the invention.

F irst, I shall explain to you why this new program is c orrect and feasible.

Topic

I would like to concentrate on theproblem Of antibiotic abuse in hospitals.

I shall dev ote my talk to the surgic al treatment of coronar y disease.

I want to c onfine my talk to the latest developments in civil engineering.

Today, I am going to give a talk on the application of computers in medicine.

My topic today will deal with the obser vation of supernova.

In today's talk, I' 11 r estrict myself to the etiology of 15-epa~i;s.

In my presentation this morning, I' 11 limit myself to three major points onl y.

I take the liberty of r estricting my discussion mainly to highway bridge construction.

Now, I w ould like to addr ess myself to the most important aspec t of this problem.

Among the many languages, I shall mention only BASI C.

What I am going to present today is the methodology and the data analysis.

I'm not going to say much about that except to discuss the literature on that topic.

Comprehensive Samples

Sample 1

Thank you, Mr. Chairperson, Mr. Dir ector-General, distinguished member s of the IL O's Governing Body and friends. I welcome this oppo rtunity to be here today, with an Organization w hic h in many ways belongs to all of us workers. I c an think of, in fact, no other inter national body that one c an claim as one's own so unambiguously.

I have also had a longstanding for mal association w ith the ILO. Many of my early piec es on w omen and technological change and on l and rights were published by the IL O, as well as was the wor k of many other scholars. It is therefore a pleasur e for me to be her e o n this important Symposium.

The c anvas of the Symposium is ver y large. I w ill foc us on two aspec ts of gender inequality that c entrally effect millions of women as workers but perhaps have failed to rec eive the attention they deser ve. F irst, the gender gap in command over pr operty and Productive assets and, second, gender biased social perceptions and social norms.

Sample 2

I learned last May that you have to be c areful in speaking to a group of professional communicators. After I conducted a writer' s wor kshop at the Toronto Confer ence of the International Association of Business Communicators, Janine Lichac zw rote asked me to speak he re tonight and used the communic ation tec hniques I had r ecommended. She even included a footnote citing my lecture. I am susceptibl e to good communication and to flatter y so I am pleased to be with you to discuss your topic for the evening, the use of language in the art of speech writing.

I suppose we must begin by shaking our heads, woefully, over the sad state of language today, whether in formal speeches, cas ual c o nv ersation, or in w riting. Most of us in this room no doubt agree with the gener ally negative tone of Time Magazine's year-end assess ment which claims “our language has been besieged by vulgarities”. But to pr eser ve our sanity as pr ofessionals in communic ati on of us would probably join Time in optimistic ally expecting English somehow to sur v ive and even to prosper.

Expressions on Other Occasions

Correcting the Title of the Presentation

F ir st of all, I woul d like to mention that the title of my pr esentation should be ...

Please allow me to c orrect a mistake in the title of my speech w hic h appeared in the program. Instead of... it should read... Reading. Another Person's Paper

Sometimes you are selected to r ead another person's paper, as he or she is absent.

I shall read a paper by Dr. Li from Guangzhou, chi na, who regr ets that he could not be here. The title of his paper is...

I'm going to read the paper by Dr. Wang. It's a great pity that, bec ause of a health problem, he c ould not be here.

I was asked by the author to r ead his paper. He apologizes for not being able to c ome here.

The next speaker, Prof. Zhang, r egrets that she could not be her e and has submitted her paper to me. I am not sure if I c an p resent it as well as she expected.

I am not sure w hether I' 11 be able to be ver y confident in answering specific questi ons. However, I am somewhat familiar w ith his w ork, so I' 11 tr y my best.

Chec king the Microphone

F ir st I want to chec k if all of you can hear me clearly.

Am I speaking clearly and loudly enough for those in the r ear of the room?

I wonder if those in the rear of the r oom c an hear me.

If those in the rear of the room c an hear me, woul d someone please raise his hand?

Can you hear me clearly?

Can you hear me if I am away from the microphone?

Is the microphone working?

* Summary-How to Prepare a Good Introduction

Realize file gr eat importance of the introduction of file pr esentation mad then do your best in delivering it.

Don' t make file introduction either too w or dy, or too brief. Usually, it covers 10 to 15 pe rcent of your entire speech.

Select tile ways to capture the audienc e attention.

Indic ate tile topic.

Outline your Speec h.

Announce your purpose.

Pr epare several versions of tile introduction, compare them, and then select the best version. F inally, learn it by heart so as to be able to deliver it easily mid fluently.

Don't start your speech w ith apologies.

Pay attention to your body language.

Chapter II Developing the Speech Text I. Announcing the Beginning of the Speech Text

To begin w ith, I would like to talk about a principle.

I think it would be best to start out by looking at some pictur es.

The first thing I would like to talk about is the definition of the ter ms w hich I’11 use in my presentation.

II. Shifting to the Next Main Point

Well, let's move on to the next point.

We will now c ome to the sec ond problem.

Turning to the next question, I' 11 talk about the stages of the proc edure.

As the second topic, I shall stop her e. Now let' s turn our attention to the third topic.

So much for the methodology of our experiment. I would now like to shift to the discussion of the results.

Now, let's move away fr om the first part and switch over to the next part of my pr esentation.

That's all for the intr oduction and now we c an go on to the literatur e r ev iew.

Next, I would like to turn to a more difficult problem.

The next point I'd like to talk about is the feasibility of this project.

That brings me to my second point.

I am glad that we can now leave this rather boring subject of mathematic deduction and go into a mor e attractive one, that is the ap plication of the for mula.

III. Resuming the Topic

Let' s come back to what I said in the first part of my speech.

Getting back to the subject of the pr oblem of theoretic al c onsiderations we can find that...

I want to r eturn to the first part of my presentation.

Now, to get bac k to the effect of temper ature, you may be awar e that the problems have been solved.

This brings me back to the question of sec urity.

At this point I w ould like to r efer again to the questi on of methods in the first part of my lecture.

Referring again to the first question, I think...

Referring to the Coming Point

I'll deal with it later.

I' 11 touc h upon that point in a moment.

I shall tell you in detail shortly.

IV. Introducing the Supporting Materials

I think this part is the most diffic ult, so I'll explain it in greater detail.

I think this part of my paper is most important, so I plan to spend mor e time on it.

Please allow me to deal with this matter more extensively.

Being the most important part of my presentation, I w ill elabor ate on it w ith mor e slides.

I' 11 expand this topic with drawings and figures.

Indic ating the Points Briefly

Limited by the time available, I can only give you a ver y brief account of this matter.

I don't think that I should describe the methods in detail, bec ause they are included in the handout.

I will not go into detail on it.

This point has been talked about repeatedly in this symposium, so I am not going to spend too much time on it. Let's go through the following points ver y rapidly.

I just want to outline for you what I experienc ed in using this new drug.

I shall not go over all these explanations. My time is running short. So I'’11 be brief.

It is sufficient to say that these experiments were poorly designed and w ithout contr ols.

V. Repairing a Slip of Tone

The first of such experiments began in 2000, rather than 1999.

May I have the lights, I mean the slides.

The temperature increased, I shall say decreased.

The population is 13 million, sorr y, 31 million.

The exchange r ate dropped from 2.5 to 1.8, I beg your pardon, 1.9.

As you c an see from the first row, excuse me, the second row, that the output increased two fold.

VI. Expressions Concerning Audio-V isual Aids

Could we have the lights off? And the first slide, please.

Lights off, first slide, please.

Dim the lights, and first slide, please.

The slide is not so clear. Please darken the room a little more.

Could you please turn on the lights, please?

Now, we can have the lights on.

Please switch on the lights.

Lights on, please.

I apologize that this slide is not so clear, but I hope you c an still make out the gener al idea.

Sorr y for the small print.

I'm sorr y we left a figure out here.

A presentation 英语范文

On behalf of Grant Telecommunications, I’d like to welcome you. My name is Joseph Green. Today I’d like to give you a product presentation for the new XT 3000 mobile phone. My presentation is divided into three parts. First, I’ll explain the features of the new phone. Then, I’ll talk about how the phone compares with others on the market. And lastly, I will highlight the USPs of the new product. Right, let’s start with the features first. The new XT 3000 is great and it has some excellent new features. These include voice-activated dialing. What this means is that you can say the name of the person you would like to call into the phone and it will automatically find the person’s number and dial. Another fantastic feature is the 100 mega pixel camera—you won’t miss another precious moment. When compared to other products, the XT 3000 comes out on top. I will run through some comparisons against the following three products: HR 500, Elektra v1.2 and SP 989. The HR 500 doesn’t have such an excellent 100 mega pixel camera. The Elektra v1.2, which is a similar price to the XT 3000, does not have the voice-activated dialing facility. And the SP 989, which has all the same features as the XT 3000, is much more expensive than the XT 3000. This brings me to the final part of my presentation. I would like to briefly highlight the USPs (Unique Selling Points) of the XT 3000. Firstly, it is very competitively priced. It also has the most features of any phone on the market at this price. Additionally, customers are able to buy the different parts of the phone in different colours, which enables them to customise their phone to the look they want. And finally, there are lots of accessories to further customise it. All in all, the XT is a fantastic buy! Thank you for listening. Does anyone have any questions?

Summary示例

Writing a Summary The goal of this exercise is to be able to write a summary of the following article using around130words. Of all the games held throughout Greece, those staged at Olympia in honor of Zeus are the most famous. The Games, like all Greek games, were an intrinsic part of a religious festival.Held every four years between August6and September19,they occupied such an important place in Greek life that time was measured by the interval between them---an Olympiad.Although the first Olympic champion listed in the records was one Coroebus of Elis,a cook, who won the sprint race in776BC,it is generally accepted that the Games were probably at least500years old at that time.According to one legend they were founded by Heracles, son of Alcmene. The Games were held at Olympia in the city-state of Elis,on a track about32metres(35yards) wide. The racing length was one stade,a distance of about192metres(210yards)which was one length of the track. At the meeting in776BC,there was apparently only one event, the stade, but other events were added over the ensuing decades.In724BC a two-length race, diaulos, roughly similar to the400-metre race, was included and four years later the dolichos,a long-distance race possibly to be compared to the modern1500-or even5000-metre event, was added.Wrestling and the pentathlon were introduced in708BC.The latter was an all-around competition consisting of five events---the long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, foot race, and wrestling. Boxing was introducing in688BC,and in680a chariot race.In648the pancratium,a kind of all-strength,or no-holds-barred,wrestling was included.Kicking and hitting were allowed;only biting and gouging(thrusting a finger or thumb into an opponent's eye)were forbidden.Between632and616BC events for boys were introduced. And from time to time further events were added including contests for fully armed soldiers, for heralds, and for trumpeters. The program must have been as varied as that of the modem Olympics, although the athletics(track and field)events were limited:there was no high jumping in any form and no individual field event, except in the pentathlon. Until the77th Olympiad(472BC)all of the contests took place on one day;later they were spread, with, perhaps, some fluctuation, over four days, with a fifth devoted to the closing ceremony presentation of prizes and a banquet for the champions.Sources generally agree that women were not allowed as competitors or,except for the priestess of Demeter,as spectators. In most events, the athletes participated in the nude. The Olympic Games were originally restricted to free-born Greeks. The competitors, including those who came from the Greek colonies, were amateur in the sense that the only prize was a wreath or garland. The athletes underwent a most rigorous period of supervised training, however, and eventually the contestants were true professionals. Not only were there substantial prizes for winning, but the Olympic champion also received adulation and unlimited benefits from his city.Athletes became fulltime specialists---a trend that in the modem games has caused a long and bitter controversy over amateurism.
