• 虚拟语气是一种特殊的动词形式,一是用来 表示说话人所说的话不是一个事实,而是一 种假设、猜测、怀疑等(在条件从句中或让步 状语从句中);一是表示说话人的愿望、要求、 命令、建议等 (在宾语从句、表语从句、同 位语从句)。

如果条件句中有were,had,should 等助动词,可将if省略,而把 were,had 或 should 置于句首 , 来表达以 if 引导的条件句的相同意思。
即用without(=but for),or(else)代替if从句。
例如: Without/But for his help, we wouldn’t have made such great progress.
=If there hadn’t been/we hadn’t got his help, we wouldn’t have made such great progress.
