Second,as for the aspect about the purpose of education,America Education attachs a little importance to the study on basic knowledge but thinks highly of the cultivation of creativity, while in China, education pays more attention to the basic knowledge and ignores the cultivation of students’creativity and thinking ability. Therefore,in America students who get low grades tend to have high ability while in China students who get high grades don’t have enough ability to adapt to the development of society.对比中国和美国英语作文:中国和美国的早餐对比Here are many differences between China and the USA in the way of life. These differences performance in all aspects.Breakfast, For example, breakfast, the Chinese and Americans have many differences.Chinese breakfast often consists of rice and small amounts of vegetables, meat or fish. But in the USA people like to eat some eggs and toast. In China we like eat rice porridge or soybean milk in the breakfast. However, as far as I know, the Americans like drink coffee, milk or some fruit juice in the breakfast. In China, people like deep fried food much, like Oil Strips("you tiao", in China), what is long, deep fried strips of dough is similar to a doughnut. They can be sweet or salty, but in my opinion, Americans seems not like them.Americans prefer to eat some simple food, like bread, eggs, ham or to buy McDonald's hamburgers,in the morning.Traditionally, Chinese people like to eat their own breakfast at home. However, in many large cities, with the accelerating pace of life, more and more people are prefer to eat breakfast outside. The Chinese people buy "bao zi" and soybean milk to eat in the morning is just like the American people buy coffee in Starbucks and buy hamburgs in McDonald's. In China, people do not read the newspapers during the breakfast, but in American, people always read the newspapers when they eat the breakfast.对比中国和美国英语作文:中国家庭与美国家庭Both Chinese families and American families are smaller than they used to be. Most young Chinese parents have only one child, while young Americans also prefer to have fewer children than their parents have. However, unlike the Chinese young people, many young American couples think it is not easy to get along with their parents. They will leave their parents and have their own homes once they get married. Many of them would almost never live with their parents again. It is a sad thing indeed.Things are different in China. Both the young and the old admit the problems between them, but they will try to understand each other. Besides, sons and daughters in China will feel that they must take care of their old parents while old people cannot help wanting to do some thing for their busy children. So it is still very common in today's China to see married sons and daughters living with their parents. However, China no longer has families where four generations live under the same roof.对比中国和美国英语作文:中美不同的社会习俗Social customs differ in different parts of the world. If we don‘t realize this, misunderstanding may arise between people that behave differently. In the United States, people are very informal in social situations. For example, they call each other by their given names when two people first meet. So do the young to the old. In China, it would be regarded quite impolite to do so.Another difference is about what can be talked about in a conversation. A Chinese thinks nothing of being asked how much his coat cost while Americans think it impolite to ask such a question. A Chinese woman doesn‘t care if she is asked about her age. Politics, religions, as well as incomes are often talked about among Chinese. But in the United States these kinds of subjects are usually avoided in conversation.Since there are many other different social customs between Americans and Chinese, the way that we behave and what we talk about requires our attention. If we keep these in mind, we will doit better and understand each other better.对比中国和美国英语作文:中美学生不同的校园生活There are many differences between American students and Student’s from other countries. Some of these diffe rences are cultural differences that stem from the way people all over the world look at themselves and their relationship to others. The typical American student studies on average between 12 to 20 hours a week. This is very different when compared to most Asian countries where students can study up 40 to 60 hours a week.American students also spend a large portion of their time participating in extra-curricular activities like American Football, Cheerleading and Volleyball. While these activities can be available to students in other countries they are rarely pursued with as much enthusiasm as American students. This is because there are greater and more plentiful rewards for athletes in the United States then in most countries and there are many opportunities to excel at many different levels i.e. High School, College and minor league sporting teams. American students are very independent in their educational goals. They study alone and it is considered a matter of pride to succeed without the help of others, this usually breeds fierce competition among students to out achieve each other on assignments or in the classroom. This is very different among students from other countries where a collaborative environment is created and students naturally tend to help each other. In some countries exams are given and a small group of students are asked to work on it together. This process of collaborative learning is just beginning to become popular in the United States, but is already looked upon as too different from what is considered traditional education. American studentsusually have a part time job while studying, and there is usually no uniform or dress code associated with education in the United States. Education in the United States is free until you are 18 years old, but college is paid for through scholarships, grants and loans. In some other countries School is always paid for. And students must wear uniforms this can make going to school very expensive. There are many similarities and differences between American students and students from other countries, and that is what makes learning such a fun thing to do.。

Key words:China,America, similarities, differences, education, religion, food Differences between the Chinese and American culturesAs we know ,there are many differences between Chinese and American cultures. If we desire to learn about U.S or communicate with Americans in proper way ,it is necessary for us to know about cross-cultural communication. Cross-cultural communication (also referred to as intercultural communication) is a field of study that focus on how people from different cultural backgrounds communicate, in similar and different ways among themselves, and how they endeavor to communicate across cultures. Only if we are familiar with the similarities and differences can we avoid cultural conflicts and get along well with foreign friends. When you are conc erned about what you can do and what you can’t, your foreign friends will show respect for your national culture and there is no doubt that you can enhance the level of cross-culture communication .In the essay,I’ll talk about similarities and differences in three aspects between Chinese and American culture :religion ,food and festival.1.religionAmerica is remarkable now, as in the past, for its attachment to the principle of freedom of belief or disbelief . –The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States indicates that "Congress shall make no law establishing religion, orprohibit the free exercise thereof."So you can choose your indivisual relision.According to the research, The largest religion in the US is Christianity, practiced by the majority of the population (76% in 2008);Speaking in general terms, the contemporary American is a Christian country. A research indicates that most Americans believe the existence of Santa Clous, Christ Jesus and angel even after they have received edu cation and become adults. It’s easy to see the ingrained status of Christianity in the United States of America. Christianity has the idea that people have original sin, because human ancestors, Adam and eva had sinned, corrupt moral invaded their body, and transmitted to their descendants, the result is that all mankind have sin. Obviously, Christianity preached that man and God, the separation of man and nature. China is a multi-religious country, and Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Christian are the main religions in the country. Incomplete statistics show that there are more than 100 million religious followers in China with over 85 000 religious sites, over 3000 religious groups and some 74 religious colleges. Chinese people also enjoy the freedom of religious belief according to law, and regular religious activities are protected by the Constitution. All religious believers and non-religious people in the country respect for each other in beliefs and customs and live together in harmonies. While Chinese religion would emphasize that the harmony between man and nature, issues of life within a confined themselves, to solve problems with people- oriented. It’s quite different from the Christianity.2.foodGenerally speaking, we Chinese think food is very important to man. People often associate food with important holidays and the chance to meet distinguished guests. The Chinese food not only is very delicious and tasty but also very pleasing to your senses and many of dishes have very beautiful and fancy names. The Chinese have the food culture of our own which are quite different from westerners. In the west, people pay more attention to the nutrition of food rather than the looks of it. The cuisine and table manners are quite different from ours in a great extent. It is a very common practice we Chinese people say "Have you had your meal?" when they meeteach other around the time before or after meals. In fact, it is a kind of greeting to communicate with each other. But foreigners cannot understand that because they think why you ask me this. They tend to think you want to invite me to dinner or I am not rich enough to feed myself regularly but that is my business not yours. Chinese think food is very important and essential to people so it shows some care and concern about you. Very often it puzzles foreigners a lot that we ask and talk so much when we order our food in the restaurant. One reason is we ask what the food or the dish is and try to clarify it because you sometimes never know what the food is just according the name of the food until it is put on your table in the restaurant just. While most of western food has a simple and clear name and you know what it is when you hear the name. For instance, there is a traditional food call "fish and chips" in the UK. You see it is very obvious it is fried fish and potato chips. The reason for this in China is on the one hand to try to tell you the way it cooks such as cook, fry, grill and broil in the name and on the other it has beautiful good names so that you have a good imagination and association to let you have a good appetite.Generally speaking, we don't use much tableware when we have our meal in China. Mainly we have bowl, dishes, chopsticks and spoons, which we don't use very often. In serving English meals, they use so much tableware with different kinds and sizes. The Chinese do not know how to use them properly when they are invited to dinner in English family. For example there are different kinds of names for glasses in English, such as wine glass, cherry glass, brandy glass, beer glass, snifter glass, champion flute and high bowl. You can see tableware also show the food culture of different countries.cationUs’s higher education was considered as the best education in the world. Comparing the elementary education between American and China, people's universal view will be: China's elementary education aims to build the foundation of education with more study and less thought; while US's education aims to bulid such an education to raise the creativity with less study and more thought. the Chinesestudents study more, actually pay little attention to the practice, and cannot study for the purpose of 's education pays more attention to raise student's self-confidence,independence,spirit of supporting oneself, but China's education emphases on training the students to be strict, rigorous spiritual. When American school inspects the result of student, they emphasize more on the ability to analyze and solve the question but not the ability of memory or description. The American students donot need the mechanical memorizing, but display creative thought as far as possible; This can cultivate student's study interest, raise the ability of doing it byself and make the study be one kind of creative action. Conclusion:Chinese culure is broad and profound, but American culture also has its unique and style. After learning this class,I have a general impression on American culture, there are quite differences between Chinese and American culture.I think that it’s beneficial to be familiar to this differences for our cross-cultual communication.References[1]Luther S.Luedtke<The Society and Culture of the United States>America:United States information Agency,2003[2]托马斯﹒里克纳《美式家庭——品质教育家长对策》海南:海南出版社,2001年(2)[3]章创生《美国爸爸中国爸爸——向美国家长学教子》重庆:重庆出版社,2011(6)[4]董小川《美国文化概论》.

Comparison between Chinese Value and American Value

Comparison between Chinese Value and American Value

Comparison between Chinese Value and American ValueAs we know, every country in the world has its disciplines and laws to guarantee that its social system will function well, and we human beings also have to live under the restraint of these rules. While disciplines and laws cannot be the only element of a social system, it’s the value which promotes the establishment of the system. Even though we share some general values such as hardworking, honest and loyalty, due to the different environment we live in, each country will have its featured values that are different from any other country. Take Chinese value and American value for example. Both of the two countries appreciate kindness, honest, diligence and some other nice value, however, they have many different values.First, individualismAmericans are very independent, for instance, parents in American family seldom interpose what their children are doing, they prefer to let their children develop themselves freely; on the contrary, this kind of attitude would be regarded as irresponsible in Chinese society. Besides, American children choose to live alone without their parents, while we Chinese usually enjoy living with parents or even grandparents in a big family. Second, privacyAmericans usually respect other people’s privacy, even between friendsthey seldom ask “personal questions”, such as age, salary and marital status. Yet when we Chinese have a chat, we usually want to have the idea about others’ personal information, which is considered impolite in America.Third, informalityAmericans are more go-as-you-easy not only in dress or entertainment, but also in interpersonal communication, despite there maybe a sharp gab between the two persons on their age or status. Nevertheless, we Chinese have been thought much about etiquette, we appreciate those who show courtesy in interaction, we are taught to respect the aged and cherish the young since we were children. If we call our parents’ or teachers’ name instead of their real salutations like western people, we will be considered discourteous and disrespectful.Fourth, future orientationWe may be familiar with the situation where a leader or somebody like that in a meeting keeps saying that how many achievements they have achieved during the past years. This often happens in China since Chinese seem to be bound up with our “brilliant, admirable”past. But it will seldom take place in America, where people are usually future oriented. In America, people will not be satisfied with what they have got, instead, they tend to look forward and keep moving. No matter what may happen in the future, they just face it.In conclusion, since there are differences between Chinese and American value, we’d better realize their advantages and disadvantages. And we can adopt its good points and avoid its weak points, so that it may help us to be better men.By 默默。

The comparison between Chinese and American higher education system

The comparison between Chinese and American higher education system

Part Two: The comparison between Chinese and Americanhigher education system. Both in America and China, the main ordinary higher education refers to junior college bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree program, but there exists great difference of higher education system between China and America. The basic education, vocational and polytechnic education, ordinary higher education and adult education are four major types of education in China. While in United States, there are also four major types of higher education system. They are the (1)university, which may contain:(a)several colleges for undergraduate students seeking a bachelor’s(four-year)degree and(b)one or more the bachelor’s degree to obtain a master’s or a doctoral degree;(2)the four-year undergraduate institution-the college-most of which are not part of a university;(3)the technical training institution, at which high school graduates may take courses ranging from six months to four years in duration and learn a wide variety of technical skills, from hair styling though business accounting to computer programming; and(4)the two-year, or community colleges or universities.[1]American undergraduate students receive generalist education, and graduate receive professional education. When they are at the doctor level, all of them would take a comprehensive examination. If they fail to pass the examination, they are doom to be wiped out. According to the research, there are nearly one-third students miss the degree. By comparing and analyzing their difference, we can be aware of their respective merits and drawbacks, and improve our education system at the same time.2.1 The contrast of students’admission system between Chinese and American higher education system. The different students’ election system decides different students’ quality. Each school in United States set their own admission requirements. The academic section is generally the most important but not the only deciding factor. On the other way round, their comprehensive capabilities play an important role. Moreover, there is no much restraint of admission system. American college students are always composed by senior high schools, social workers, unemployed men and soon as long as they can afford tuitions and hand in required application. Out of more than three million students who graduate from high school each year, about one million go on for higher education. A college at a leading university might receive applications from 2% of these high school graduates, and then accept only one out of every ten who apply. The admission process consists of application forms, admission tests and essays. Universities make admission decisions based on academic achievement, test scores and application. The successful applicants at colleges and universities are unusually chosen on the basis of :(a)their high school records;(b)recommendations from their high school teachers;(c)the impression they make during interviews at the college or university ;and(d)their scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Tests(SATs)1.( By these applications, one can exhibit his potential, communication, individual style and other strong suits, and make colleges get to know comprehensively of students. Of course, if one have special strong point, he may also be recruited because you will pay honor to your university or college. For instance, if one does well in football which can stirs up the most national interest, he may be enrolled with conditional admission.A fact is that one of my friends who has got American colleges’and universities’ offers told me his success owing to his humor, pure-heartedness, and his prominent inter-communication. As studying in an international high school, my friend cultivates ability to study on his own, think things out for himself. During his part time, he had been assuming tutor for foreigners. It’s because all his achievements in high school are taken into account, so he can got American colleges’and universities’ offers. On the other hand, in China, after students graduating from nationwide senior high schools, nearly all colleges and universities recruit students according to corresponding entrance examination marks. The entrance examination is usually organized on July each year, and nearly all high school students would take the examination. In their point of views, the chance of becoming members of university is1英语国家社会与文化入门)totally determined by the entrance examination final marks. Therefore, the annually entrance examination is usually regarded as an examination of life even an examination of fortune.2.2 The contrast of semester arrangement between Chinese and American higher education system.Undergraduate education in United States and China set four years for undergraduate students to study, but American have different semester arrangement with Chinese. Some colleges and universities have two semesters a year, while others have four semesters a year. Usually, the length of a semester may last 10 to 16 weeks. As to four semesters system, each semester is called Quarter with approximate ten weeks. Therefore, the circle of students educated time is shortened, besides, there are enough time provided for students to choose curricula they interest. While, nearly all undergraduate education in China has quadrennium2for university life. Still, there are some special, such as many medical academies and some scientific academies arrange five or six years for undergraduate education. I n China, an academic year have two semesters which are divided with spring and autumn. Thereby, students will spend large number of time on schooling and less time allowing them choose what they interest, saying nothing of practice.2.3 The contrast of curricular and specialty between Chinese and American higher education system.Different curricular and specialty offered bring different consequences. Taking the case of American universities and colleges, no matter public or private, they offer a vast array of specialties for students. Broad field specialties are organized give students a broad overview of field, give students general introduction to the theories, research, and findings. After all, the more specialties mean there are more kinds of curricular students can elect, more comprehensive knowledge students attain. In United States, students just can apply for admission of university but not the major(the field in which they want to their degree). At the undergraduate level, Students in United States must abide instructions to complete basis curricular during 2Quadrennium:four years.the first two years, such as world history, math, writhing or research. During, and the next years, they start to choose majors according to their interests and strong suits. The National Institute of Education, a government agency, reports that a total of more than 1000 majors are offered in America’s colleges and universities. The combined electives available in these schools probably amount to a number in the tens of thousands3.Thereby, if they feel the curricular the core course they are studying has not appreciated them, they can also choose to transfer to another major. Besides, time permitting, students can choose sub-majoring at the same time. Some universities frequently held plenty of academic forums, and the reports are always lectured by some academia prominent experts in United States. At the graduate student level, students’writing skills are important because they may be required to write large number of articles. Generally, they may be required at least 5pages to 10pages paper after completing reading materials every week. Science and engineer students should spend much time on laboratory and accomplish their experiment report. Higher education in America has always stressed character training or social skills training though extracurricular activities, including organized sports and performing arts. The broad range of extra curricular includes such as cycling, mountain climbing, horse riding, and chess playing. At many schools, there are interesting communities which bring universities plenty of vigor and vitality. Among the activities are newspapers, musical organizations, dramatic, swimming club, radio stations, and some volunteer groups. Some of these have their own meeting place in which services and social activities be held. Students are frequently seen working as volunteers in hospitals and homes for the-elderly, or other public-service work. Long summer holiday in the eyes of students is not just rest or recreation time, but some summer training schools are prepared for students’participation. As a rule, summer training schools also have rigorous disciplines. What students’ actions in summer training schools are playing a significant role in their future development. The aim of the system is to cultivate well-developed talents. Maybe this system will lead most students choosing most popular speciality, leaving less faculty for fun. In order to keep away from this trouble, 3American Education, American and British CultureAmerican Universities adopt two-way election between students and departments. This system suits American individuation, and students studying on their own exerts profound influence on their personality and life. However, this is a little different from Chinese universities curricular arrangement, after all, we are far less free. Students in China choose majors before they enter universities, and it’s not very easy to transfer one department to another in a same school, let alone to another school. When students receive the offer of universities, the curricular they applied is unchangeable. What they should do is to finish curricular rules formulated. One similar system is both of America and China have required course and elective course. But for the facility in university is limited, excepting a student having right to choose some elective course with interest, they may not be entitled to enjoy same freedom of choosing courses. Moreover, some courses require exams or interviews if they would like to shift course, or choose popular course.2.4 The contrast of model teaching between Chinese and American higher education systemWhether students can break new grounds in advanced research or brought up to ensure that the knowledge innovations are decided by educational methodology. Comparing the way of teaching in China,American higher education emphasis on cultivation of knowledge absorbability, ability of application and creation. In America, the teaching methods are more flexible than Chinese teaching methods. They advocate democracy, and teachers always pay more attention to help students construct knowledge system rather than being familiar with every details of lecture. They encourage students to raise problems, to cultivate active and harmonious atmosphere, to doubt predecessors’ fruits. Moreover, American emphasis on practical class as well excepting teaching in class. During the practical class, students are often divided ten or twenty people per group which directed by an assistant teacher to do some creative actions at full steam. For instance, they are having reading class, students would be required raise themselves viewpoints no matter the views relate to the clou of materials and individual character analysis. Sometimes, several professorsinstruct a same course, and the aim is to provide students’equal rights to choose professor they want. At the same time, students establish fine relationship with teachers. Furthermore, as there is no fixed materials for students, so many materials are appointed by professional teacher, and some curricular are teached in the way of lecture or discussion. As we know, there is a saying goes that the admission in America is easy but graduation is so hard. This owing to large number of assignment and examinations are required. If students don’t take them seriously, they may fail to attain the diploma. This special model teaching system is advantage of fostering students’ability of independent learning, analyzing and solving concrete problems independently. On the other hand, in China, students could learn knowledge better because they are good at reciting a large number of notes given by their teachers, and they understand the essence of their majors deeply. Consequently, they like a machine designed for examination for they can do well in all kinds of exams, tests, and quiz. At every turn, many teachers would like to teach those may be questioned in papers, or to pack up a serious of knowledge points for help student examination. The exam-education in China not only sharpen students burden but also deform students knowledge and culture structure, or narrow their knowledge and culture. As lacing of intercommunication and creation for years, students in China are lack of courage in class, and are lack of the ability of thinking independently.2.5The contrast of credit and degree systems between Chinese and American higher education systemDifferent curricular arrangement will lead to different credit hour. Typically, an undergraduate student only earn a certain number of credits can he or she receive a degree at the end of four years of college and university. One credit usually equals one hour of class per week in a single course. A three-credit courses in biology and involve two hours of lectures plus one hour in a science lab, every week. Usually, students can earn credits by attending lectures, passing related examinations, and finish some assignments. Although there are required course and elected course in both America and China, in United States, required courses are no more than Chinese, and their credit hour approach 30%-40% of the total. The basic courses and speciality courses credit hour make up about 33% of the total, and others make up nearly 67% of the total credit hour[2].Thus the student can freely select large number of fields of selected courses universities have provided. Frequently, the first two years are spent in broad general education which are required courses and the last two years students can choose one or two disciplines that are referred to as major fields of study. On the contrary, Chinese students fail to have such freedom to choose selected courses not only the elected courses are few but also the required course take students much time. The credit hour of required course make up 85%-90% of the total, and basic courses and speciality courses credit hour make up about 30%-45% of the total [3].So there are scarcely any chance given to students to choose elected courses. But as with the degree system in America is a little similar in China. Both of American universities and Chinese universities has built up a multi-layered, diversified and discipline-inclusive education system, which has played a significant role in speeding up the development of national economy, science and technology. Higher education system in both America and China provide bachelor’s degree, master degree, and doctoral degree. In most fields of specialization, a master’s degree can be earned by one or two academic years of study beyond the bachelor’s degree in United States. A Ph.D. degree (doctor of philosophy) usually takes at least three years beyond the master’s. To earn a Ph. D. in almost any field, the student must generally pass oral and written examinations in his specialty, produce a long research paper which makes an original contribution to his field of study, and pass reading examinations in one or two foreign languages. Students in China can earned bachelor’s degree by four years study,(five years for medical and some engineering and technical program);master degree by two or three years study; and doctor degree by three years study.American universities offer three main categories of graduate degrees. In most fields of specialization, a master’s degree can be earned by one or two academic years of study beyond the bachelor’s degree. A Ph.D. degree (doctor of philosophy) usually takes at least three years beyond the master’s. To earn a Ph. D. in almost any field, thestudent must generally pass oral and written examinations in his specialty, produce a long research paper which makes an original contribution to his field of study, and pass reading examinations in one or two foreign languages.。

Comparison between Chinese and American Education
廖若兰2015220843
It is believed that there are many differences between Chinese and American education. I would like to elaborate this issue in terms of teaching goal, knowledge view and study method.
Firstly, the two countries have different teaching goals. We can see that Chinese primary education is for children’s intellectual development. Considering this goal, teachers usually ignore students’ interests and pay more attention to students’grades. So, if a Chinese student get a bad report card, he has to receive big pressure from all sides. While in America, there is one of primary purposes, that is to cultivate student’s creativity. The grade is not so important for American students. Teachers are willing to help students find potential ability. They care about learning process.
Secondly, they have different views of knowledge. Chinese teachers emphasize on knowledge infusion and accumulation, which can help students to build complete knowledge system. However, American teachers focus on training students to use practical knowledge and pay more attention to developing studentscritical spirit and doubt for authority. So students can expand their knowledge creatively. Both express the different educational attitude towards knowledge: one is static, the other is dynamic.
Thirdly, they have different study methods. Chinese students are accustomed to listening to what teachers say rather than doing by learning in class. After class, students just need to finish their homework. But , in America, students from an early age are encouraged to do research in order to cultivate their study ability. So, they can deal with some problems independently.
Compared with American education, Chinese education is not beneficial for student’s development in an all-around way. As far as I am concerned, Chinese education should care much more about students’personality instead of report card.。
