Also there is a very nice market, French Market, there once a week, where you get lovely parties, lovely fresh fish, really good fresh fish and lovely bowls and baskets which the local people have made. What kind of pictures has the man not taken yet?Questions 23—26Traveling by air is one of the major conveniences of modern times. The whole field of aviation is geared to meet our needs for our safe, efficient and fast transportation. Let me give you an account of my recent trip on a major airline to illustrate my point.I began preparations for my trip early by calling the airline and making a reservation. A few days later, I got the e-mail telling me my flight number and the times of departure from my city and arrival at my destination. I was advised to arrive at the airline terminal an hour before take-off in order to check in for my flight. On the day of my flight, I went to the ticket counter for my boarding card, and then headed for the waiting area of the gate, from which my airplane will depart. Of course, you have to go through security system first. While I was waiting, I noticed how busy everyone was. The mechanics were checking the plane for last minute repairs, and a large truck was fueling the plane with gasoline to make it ready for take-off.When my flight was called, I boarded the airplane. I was pleasantly greeted by the flight attendants and ordered light drinks and food. The weather was good, and there was no air turbulence to cause us worry or discomfort.Although my flight was trouble-free, during the holidays, air travel becomes more hectic. Often, airlines sell too many tickets for a flight and are then overbooked. Some unlucky passengers will be bumped and asked to reschedule on a later flight. Bad weather might also cause a later take-off, and this delay often results in misconnections at the next stop.On the whole, however, air travel is worth the expense. It is fast, safe and usually reliable.23. How did the speaker make his flight reservation?24. Why is the speaker advised to arrive an hour earlier?25. How was his flight going according to the speaker?26. Which of the following is not true about air travel?Questions 27--30W: Robert, I know you have strong feelings about the media.M: I do. I’ve never had a television in my life. I grew up before television was really common. And I just don’t have time for it. I think you have to look at the “trade off” for whatever you do.W: What do you mean by “trade off”?M: What it costs, not only in money, but in terms what it does to your life. I have no real machines in my apartment. Well, I do have an FM radio.W: What do you listen to?M: Oh, weather reports, good music. And I have a telephone now. But I lived for eight yearswithout one.W: Eight years without a telephone?M: Well, I discovered there were telephones on every street corner, and I really didn’t need one for anything.W: Do you have a computer?M: I do not own a computer. Because when I go on the Internet, I’m always disappointed. You see, I think modern technology destroys all the beauty and meaning in life. The machine gets in the way, and I don’t want to be part of a machine. That’s not the way I want to live my life.W: Aren’t there any good things that the modern media bring us? I don’t know. Closer contact with other people?M: Well, I do have a confession to make. The only modern form of media I really like is the jet plane. I mean, I know it’s not “the media”, but I really consider it to be a form of communication. It has allowed me to travel all over the world. I get great enjoyment out of travelling. I link up with people from foreign countries. I meet them. I talked to them. And so in that way, the jet plane has improved international communication much more than fax or e-mail will ever do. W: What an interesting idea. Thank you, Robert.27. Why has Robert never had a television in his life?28. Which type of modern machine does Robert have now in his apartment?29. What does Robert think of modern technology?30. What does Robert enjoy most?S ENTENCE T RANSLATIONDirections: In this part of the test, you will hear 5 sentences in English. You will hear the sentences ONLY ONCE. After you have heard each sentence, translate it into Chinese and write your version in the corresponding space in your ANSWER BOOKLET.1.

Well, as far as I am concerned, the use of mobile-phones in public vehicles should not be prohibited.Firstly, using mobile-phone in public places is a civil right for each citizen. This right should be protected as long as it doesn’t run against the law. In fact, this behavior is mostly harmless so it’s impossible to break thelaw.Secondly, we have a strong need to use mobile-phones even in public vehicles. You know, in this fast-paced society, our schedules are always full and we might receive a phone call at any time. If we cannot use mobile-phones we may miss many business chances.Thirdly, it’s impractical to do a such silly thing to prohibit the use of mobile-phone.Therefore, it should not be prohibited. What characteristics do you think a good teacher should have?Well, in my opinion, a good teacher should have the following characteristics:The first one is dedication. A good teacher should be fully devoted to the cause of education so that he or she could do best in his/her job and win students’ r espect. The second is patience. A good teacher should never lose his/her patience because this may cause the students’ ignorance of the knowledge. Instead he/she should explain again and again until the students understand. Most of all, a good teacher should be amiable and friendly. If a teacher could become true friends of his/her students, they will communicate better and have a better interaction in class and thus improve the teaching quality. What are important characteristics you look for in friends?Well, the first one is honesty. Only if a person is honesthe/she can be trusted. I praise highly for honesty because if yourfriend is honest, he/she would treat you sincerely and would never betray you no matter what condition you are in.Another important characteristic is helpfulness. You know, what are friends for? Help and support, right? And we could enhance our friendship by helping each other. Also, I’d like my friends to be very tolerant. You know anyone can make mistakes. If your friend is not tolerant how can you expect your friendship to last long?Describe a person that influenced you most.Well, I want to talk about my father. When I was young, he often told me to be honest, strong and hardworking and he set a good example for me. He neverbroke his promise and he worked hard every day to support our family. Although it was very tough, he never complained noryielded (gave in) to the difficulties. He never imposes pressure upon me so I could learn what I love freely. He encouraged me to work hard to enter a good university and whenever I got frustrated he would encourage me and help me overcome the difficulties. He made me understand how to care for others. In addition, he never beat me and made me know how important it is to respect others.Describe the most efficient transportation in your country. In my view, the most efficient transportation in my country is bicycle.First of all, it’s very convenient. It won’t cost you a single penny to refuel your bike. And you don’t need to go to great l ength to find a parking lot. What’s more, in big cities, bicycles are sometimes faster than cars because cars are often trapped in traffic jams.Actually you can get rid of all those troubles that have plagued car drivers.Secondly, it is very cheap. Anyone can afford a bicycle. In fact, almost every Chinese family has got at least one bike.In addition, bicycles don’t contribute to air pollution. Travelling by bicycle cando a lot of good to your health.。

1. Talk about the one thing government can do to improve the educational system in your country. Give details and examples in your answer. The one thing government can, and should do to improve the education system in China is providing more funding for schools. If such funding were in place, school can use the money to do the following. First of all, the money can be spent toward hiring the right staff. For example, hiring more professors for the faculties, get more campus staff to provide students with good service. Also, the money can be used to update facilities on campus, such as buying books for the library, upgrading equipment in the labs and funding more research projects on campus.2. Some people prefer to own cars; others prefer to mainly use public transportation. Which do you agree with? Explain why. I prefer to use public transportation rather than owning a car for the following reasons. First of all, public transit is pretty cheap in China, especially in Beijing. A bus ticket only costs about the equivalent of six and half US Cents. A subway ticket costs around 30 Cents. And for one fair, you can ride as stations as you need to. On the other hand, if I own a car, I have to pay for insurance, gas and maintenance every month as long as I own it which can be a pain in the neck. Also, using public transportation is good for the environment. If everyone rides the buses and subway to work, there will be fewer cars sitting in the streets during rush hour, doing nothing but producing emission while idling.3. Key Points:Reading: The student writes a letter to suggest that students in science department shouldn’t have writing course because it is useless and tiring for them who have to stay at lab all day long.Listening: The man disagrees with it.Reason 1: Writing course is useful and necessary because only by issuing the book of one’s research can he or she be understood and recognized.Reason 2: Students who are majored in art also spend lots of time at library, doing research, but they still have writing course.4.
