Why I Break Records
Ashrita with Sri Chinmoy
As a kid I had a huge fascination with the exotic places and people listed in the Guinness Book of Records, but being a non-athlete, I never imagined ever actually getting a world record myself. Years later, as a teenager, I became interested in Eastern spirituality and began studying meditation with Sri Chinmoy. Suddenly, I was filled with an inner joy and a seemingly inexhaustible energy. Sri Chinmoy also taught me about his philosophy of self-transcendence, that when you have access to the divine power we all have within us, nothing is impossible.

It's great to be small
Record breaker: Bridgette Jordan, 22, is officially the world's smallest woman, standing at just 2ft 3in (69cm) tall. Alongside her brother Brad, who stands at 3ft 2in, the pair are the shortest living brother and sister in the world.
Seated on a pink children's chair, Bridgette Jordan's legs are left to hanging in mid-air as she stretches out her arms to go online. Looking devotedly at her laptop screen, it takes her some considerable effort to move the mouse across the matching pink table. But it's just the way of life for the 22-year-old dwarf——who is also an all-singing, all-dancing cheerleader with her friends at Kaskaskia College.
And she now has even more to shout about——after she was crowned the world's shortest woman, as recorded in the new Guinness World Records' Book that appears to overshadow her as it sits by her side. Ms Jordan, from Sandoval, Illinois, stands at 2ft 3in - and also holds the record for being part of the shortest living brother and sister, alongside her 20-year-old brother Brad. Combined, the pair only reach 5ft 5in.
Mr Jordan, who stands at a comparatively giant 3ft 2in and enjoys playing basketball and learning karate, added: 'Hopefully this will go a little way to helping people realise it's OK to be different.'
The tiny brother and sister have Majewski osteodys-plastic primordial dwarfism type II. They live with their parents in Sandoval and study at Kaskaskia College.
Jyoti Amge, 17, from Nagpur, India, is currently recognised as the world's shortest teenager, standing at just 2ft tall.

Answers:

Ms Jordan, from Sandoval, Illinois, stands at 2ft 3in - and also holds the record for being part of the shortest living brother and sister, alongside her 20-year-old
brother Brad.可以看出,她不仅是最矮的女人,还是最矮的姐弟,所以应该有两项纪录。

Founded in Shanghai in 1992, Greater World Dsjjns, whose Chinese name is pronounced: ji-ni-si, charges a minimum 5,000 yuan ($732.5) to apply for a record. Groups will be charged about 40,000 yuan a record. The London-based Guinness World Records service is free.
"The passion for Guinness World Records in China has been growing in recent years as there are more and more Chinese people getting records," said Angela Wu, records manager of the Guinness World Records.
"The number of individuals applying for records is also on the rise. They are eager to get on the stage and show that they could be the number one in the world."
Zhang filed his claim for a Guinness World Record in 2006 and was recognized in November that year as the first to bungee jump from a helicopter into the water.
The reason Chinese adore records is public acclaim, Zhang said.
"You should understand that the fame and attention that follows after claiming a record – no matter what – is a once in a lifetime experience.
"That's why the moment when they accept the certificate is so important to them."
1. According to the passage, what’s the difference between Greater World Dsjjns and Guinness World Records?
2. Why are more and more Chinese people getting records?
Answers:
1. Greater World Dsjjns is in Shanghai and charges money to apply for a record while the Guinness World Records is in London and free.
2. They want to draw others’ attention and win others’ respect.。
