Trainers recommend functional fitness as a practical goal, rather than six-pack abs(六块腹肌).They often use text messages to stay in touch with customers.Often at these specialized gyms, the trainers are overweight themselves,or working on their own weight goals, and this can help those people with anxiety caused by poor body image. The equipment has been designed for use by larger people.Wider seats, more cushioning,no mirrors, and tinted(有色的)windows for privacy, are all important changes.Hopefully these types of gyms will successfully grow in numbers in the future. The idea is a very simple and potentially popular one.If it helps those of us who are bigger exercise more and improve our fitness level,it's a step in the right direction.1.The word zaftig in Paragraph l is closest in meaning to[答案]A.fat2.We can infer from the first two paragraphs that[答案]B.overweight people are often frustrated and pushed away by traditional gym industry3.What is the training goal in the gyms catering to overweight members?[答案]A.To achieve functional fitness.4.As for the gyms catering to overweight members, which of the following statements is NOT TRUE?[答案]C.There are large mirrors on the walls.5.Which of the following is the best tile for the passage?[答案]C.Specialized Gyms Designed for O verweight People.★阅读选择题Liu Hui interviews DrSmith about the issue of educational inequality.Liu Hui:Thank you,Dr.Smith, for agreeing to be interviewed by our Campus News Weekly.First, what do you mean by educational inequality?Dr.Smith:Educational inequality is the disparity that certain students experience in their education as compared to other students. But the meaning of it varies in different social contexts.Liu Hui:Why does it exist in modern society?Dr.Smith:Well, researchers link educational inequality to socioeconomic, racial and geographic reasons.Liu Hui:So it is very likely that educational inequality exists in different forms in different countries.Dr.Smith:Yeah,you are right. For example,in the United States, although skin color is linked to other forms of inequality,it is evident in education.Liu Hui:Educational inequality exists in China, too. For example, the college entrance rate is much higher in Beijing than in other provinces. How do you think can we someday eradicate the inequality?Dr.Smith:It's impossible to answer such a big question in few cational inequality has become one of the most important political and social issues in every nation nowadays. There have been numerous attempts at reforms and. …1.Well, researchers link educational inequality to[答案]C.racial, socioeconomic and geographic reasons2.According to the passage,[答案] C.in the United States, skin color is linked to the inequality in educationcational inequality exists in[答案]C,all the countries4.What does the word eradicate mean in the passage?[答案]A .get rid of5.What's the atitude of Dr.Smith to the future of education equaliy?[答案]B.positive。

During his stay in China, he saw many wonderful things. One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money. In western countries , people did not use paper money till the 15th century. But people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century.A Chinese man called Cai Lun invented paper almost 2 ,000years ago. He made it from wood. He took the wood from trees and made it into paper. He then put these pieces of paper together and made them into a book. Now paper still comes from trees. We use a lot of paper everyday! If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees on the earth. If there are no trees, there will be no paper. Еѵегу dау, реорlе thrоw аwау аbоut 2 ,800tоnѕ(吨) оf рареr іn оur city. It takes l7 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting nearly 48 ,000 trees every day. Since it takes more than10 years for a tree to grow, we must start using less paper now. If we don't, we will not have enough time to grow more trees to take the place of those we use for paper. So how can we save paper? We can use both sides of every piece of paper, especially when we are making notes. We can .choose drinks in bottles instead of those in paper packets. We can also use cotton handkerchiefs(手帕) and not paper ones. When we go shopping, we can use fewer paper bags. If the shop assistant does give us a paper bag, we can save it and reuse it later.Everyone can help to save paper. If we all think carefully, we can help protect trees. Truants are not necessarily less advanced or less intelligent. They complained of teachers who failed to engage them, and of “boring” lessons. “M any truants really enjoy school and believe in education, but drop out when aspects of it were ineffective.” James says. The views of students like Adam, who believes that skipping lessons has little impact on his schooling, were common. “I only take-off f or a lesson, or a couple of days. It doesn’t affect my education,” he told James.James’ study concludes that schools need to address the question of why pupils want to leave in the first place. “Pupils need help from the start.” she says. “It’s a two-way process – schools must be responsive. Lying by the Tree to wait forOnce upon a time there was a farmer who worked hard in the fields every day.One day, while he was ploughing the fields, he heard a bumping sound. He saw a rabbit lying by the trunk. He picked it up and found that it was a fat rabbit. He thought to himself,"Since it is so easy to get a rabbit like that, why should I work so hard all daylong?'! He threw his hoe away and lay by the tree every day, dreaming for more rabbits to come. When he finally realized his foolishness and returned to his fields, he found that all his crops were dead. The story tells us that we should not wait for unexpected gains by trusting chance and luck. Or, we should not hope to get rewards without hard work.守株待兔从前有一个农民每天在地里辛苦劳作。

当他最终意识到他的愚蠢返回地里时,他发现他的稻谷全死了。
这个故事告诉我们,我们不能等着机会和运气带来的不可预料的收获,也就是说,我们希望不劳而获。
