The Dane’s Invasions and the Vikings

Traditionally the majority of people in the UK shared living arrangements with others in the same household. Children in the UK
• Women born in 1934 in the UK had on average 2.46 children. However, women born in 1961 had an average of 1.96 and it is projected that women born in the 1990s will have an average of 1.84. In 1971 married women who gave birth were, on average, 23.9 years old. In 2006 they were on average 30.2 years old. Since the late 1990s the number of children living in a two-parent family has been about 76%, compared with more than 90% in 1972 In Northern Ireland a more people live in households with children. What is a family? • Nuclear „traditional‟ family – a social unit consisting of wife, husband, and dependent children. Seen as important for forging and ordering the „healthy society‟. • UK post WW2 - dominant expectations of family life. • Today „traditional family‟ appears to be in decline – new living arrangements, same sex marriages, single parents, divorce and separation.
