在征求对方的意见时,用may较多,比can更客气。

eg,May I go now?询问客观上(按规定)是否可以时,或在陈述句中,尤其表“能力”,用can较多。

eg,Can we take the books out?(按规定)Can I take this seat?( 征求对方的意见) / Can you speak English?must表示说话人的主观看法,即主观上的必要性;have to表示客观需要,即周围的环境、习惯、协约等使某人“不得不(必须)做某事”。

can是一个最常用的情态动词,其后跟动词原形,其否定形为cannot,(美国人有时写作can not),缩写形式为can’t.1).can表示“能力”。

eg. Can you sing ? Y es, I can. / I can’t drive.2) can表示能力时可与情态动词互换使用,后者有更多的时态,be able to常被用来示can 所不能表示的将来或完成的概念。

eg:He will be able to finish the work in three days.他过三天就能完成这项工作。
