Therefore, advertisements should be strictlylimited on TV, radio, the internet and in publicplaces. To what extent do you agree or disagree withthis statement?Although advertising has existed for thousandsof years and is certainly not a recent invention, it isonly in our modern society that the great influence and importance of widespread advertisingis full play. However, in my opinion, many advertisements are harmful to young people’s mentaldevelopment and, therefore, should be banned in the mass media. To begin with, various factors have given rise to the thriving of advertising industry, themost significant one being the proliferation of new products, services and technologies. In orderto give their new inventions the utmost publicity, many businesses choose to promote themby broadcasting attractive advertisements through mass media, such as television, radio andinternet. In addition, the increasingly fierce competition in the commercial world hascompelled a lot of companies to resort to exaggerated and even deceitful advertisements togain an edge over their business rivals. As many social critics have pointed out, the current trend in advertising exerts acorrupting influence on young people’sminds because there are always a lot of unwholesomeand indecent contents in modern advertisements. For example, products such as wines, lingerieand cosmetics tend to use the female body and amorous scenes as the main attraction of theiradvertisements. What is even worse, a subculture of sexual suggestiveness andpermissiveness seems to permeate the entire advertising industry. Young people, especiallythose adolescents, are often lured away from their studies and indulge themselves in eroticfantasiesTherefore, the authorities should take serious steps to counteract the negative effects ofimmoral advertising. One effective approach is to establish and impose a strict censorshipon all mass media, expunging any sexual explicit and implicit pictures and words from theadvertisements they tend to show. Also, rules and regulations should be laid down to banadvertisements from certain public places, discouraging its rampant omnipresence andcreating a cleaner and healthier social environment. Furthermore, all local governments canincrease the costs of all kinds of advertisements to be shown or published through massmedia, thus reducing their currently enormous quantities. In summary, the prevalence of advertising in our modern society and its inimical effects onthe youth of today must be curbed, otherwise public morality and traditional cultures andvalues and even the future of the world will be caught in a precarious situation. No one can avoid being influenced byadvertisements and advertising exerts a tremendousinfluence on us. Recently, there are people who areof the opinion that public has the right toknow thecorrect information of the advertisements andgovernment also should restrict the contents of these advertisements. Personally I agree withthis opinion for the following reasons. In the first instance, consumers have the right to know the correct information beforedeciding on whether to buy them. Advertisements are highly information that helps people tomake choice before they go to buy what they need. If the advertisement exaggerates theproducts it also will persuade people into buying things, which they don’t really want.Secondly, any misleading advertisements will lead to the marketing tricks, causing chaos inthe market. Too many misleading advertisements are barrio to distinguishing between decentproducts or products of bad quality. His bread in truth is made with soy flour, while headvertises it as white bread. These misleading information causes illegal competition.[More:]Last but not least, government should stipulate laws in consumers’ interests. According tothe laws, advertisements must be truthful. If the advertisements mislead consumers, government can impose great fine on them to set a lesson. In general, the role of advertisements is inevitable and undeniable. A good advertisementcan be a bridge between business and consumers and helps keep business moving. So we needcorrect information and government also needs to restrict the contents of advertisements. Letmisinformation of advertisements be far away from us. Some people think children’s spending time onTV andvideo is good, while others think it is bad.Discuss both views and give your own opinion. It is true that a lot of children, from below 3 tohigh school, would like to spend time in watching arange of TV programs and videos. One of the mostobvious reasons for this is that these are soattractive, vivid and touching our lives that thechildren who are curious cannot resist theirtemptation at all. Some people, especially the parents, argue thatthis is very damaging. They probably begin bypointing out that their children who are limited in self-control and self-principle will easily taketoo much time in watching instead of being back to study after doing for a short while. Inaddition to this, it is well aware that the amount of violence and unhealthy pictures are filledwith videos for some reasons. When children who are still simple watch too much amountwithout any correct guidance, some of them will easily break the laws in the realistic world byimitating the details of crimes. However, others who disbelieve watching TV or video is bad claim that TV programs andthe amount of videos can fully help children understand outside world or relax their stressfulbrains after intense study. Obviously, those who often watch TV have a wider range ofknowledge and better understandings to our society than those who do not. All of this isbeneficial to children’s growth and their future social life.Overall, I would like to say that watching TV or videos are necessary for children who needknowledge and information, but the point is that parents must ensure their children not towatch too much or too long, and at the same time the Government should give a harshwarning to media with overuse of unhealthy contents.。

Media control is a topic that has been widely debatedin recent years. Some people argue that the media has too much power and control over what information is presentedto the public, while others believe that the media issimply reflecting the interests and demands of the audience. In my opinion, I think that media control can have both positive and negative effects. On one hand, media control can be seen as a necessary measure to maintain social order and protect the publicfrom harmful content. For example, certain types ofviolence or explicit material may be censored to ensurethat it does not negatively impact society, especially children. Additionally, media control can help prevent the spread of misinformation or fake news, which can be detrimental to public discourse and decision-making. By regulating the media, governments or other authorities canensure that accurate and unbiased information is being disseminated. On the other hand, media control can also be used as a tool to manipulate public opinion and suppress dissenting voices. In some countries, the government or powerful corporations may exert control over the media to promote their own agendas and stifle criticism. This can lead to a lack of diversity in viewpoints and limit the ability of individuals to access alternative perspectives. Furthermore, media control can also result in the spread of propagandaor biased information, which can mislead the public and shape their opinions in a particular way.In conclusion, media control is a complex issue with both advantages and disadvantages. While it can help maintain social order and prevent the spread of harmful content, it can also be used as a means of manipulation and censorship. Striking a balance between media control and freedom of expression is crucial to ensure that the public has access to accurate information and diverse perspectives.

Television screens, newspapers, buses, andalmost all city streets are flooded by all kinds ofadvertisements. This has both advantages anddisadvantages to consumers who are unavoidablyinfluenced, though the degrees vary from person to person.Because of the advertisements placed by many competing companies, consumers are ableto learn about certain new products rapidly. If a product happens to be what some consumersneed, they might be attracted to make a purchase and have trial use. If it turns out to bereally good, people would set about recommending it to friends and the sales of this product willgo up very quickly. So, we see this is a win-win situation both to consumers and manufacturersand we also see that consumers are not just influenced profoundly all at once. It takes time forthem to establish faith in the advertised products. In most cases, the advertised products are good and worth buying. But there are alsocases where the effects or functions of a certain product are much exaggerated and it willdefinitely fool some people when they areattracted all at once and go to buy it. Since a productcan only win the market through its quality and its long established fame, there’s everyreason to believe that those fake or much exaggerated products will eventually lose theirmarket shares and die out. Thus, we see that the market is selective and consumers aresensible in the long term.In developed countries, there are strict censorship and supervising systems regardingadvertising. If the advertisement put up by a company fails to honor the advertised effects, itwould be termed as fraud, thus violating the law which could lead to really serious result. Inmost cases, the manufacturing company would be fined so heavily that it would be difficult for itto survive any longer. From the foregoing discussion, we can see that advertisements influence consumers bothfavorably and unfavorably and the degrees of this influence differ from person to person. Toprotect consumers, governments can follow the practice of developed countries by enforcingreally strict censorship and supervising laws in regard to advertising as a whole. It’s not difficult to hear people complaining abouthow much they are over occupied by the flow ofinformation. Yes, advanced media has easily pushed us into a century of news. Some mayargue that, with the hit of news media, people are gradually losing themselves since they aredrowning in the pool of information. However, positive aspects brought by news media alwaysexceed negative ones. I’ll illustrate my points in the following two aspects: the convenientlife, and the updated news.Just imagine what life was like 50 years ago, when the only sources ofnews were thoselimited newspapers and uncertain rumors from one person to another. The transmission ofnews was so hard that it was almost impossible to finish all important news within a shorttime. With developed news media, however, things are much different now. Let’s take a glanceat a normal person. He brushes his teeth while watching morning news on TV, listens to theradio in his car, and scans news websites on the Internet. Getting in touch with the trendseems to be no hard task to him, and so are we. Life, with the aid of advanced news media, becomes more and more convenient. We have been so urgent to grab the latest news that hardly can we ignore them. In thepast, it might take days or even weeks when something occurred in New York finally reached thenewspaper published in Beijing, not to mention those transmitted by mouths. Now, thesituation is not the same. A quick click on the mouse leads you directly to the news world, andexchange of information becomes more important than never before. Yes, via Internet and cellphones, you can get almost whatev er you want to know immediately, and that’s absolutelyone great gift that news media brings to us.Of course we can’t deny the hard situation of modern people when their lives are overoccupied by news media. However, how can we ignore thedeveloping world? With properregulations and restrictions, people will find themselves firmly tied to news media, and that’s aneverlasting trend. Advertisements, as an unavoidable componentof daily lives, are widely accepted reluctantly by anincreasing number of people. Some consumersbelieve that advertising only promotes the sales of products but not the quality, however, Ipersonally disagree with this viewpoint.Advertisements, such as television commercials and flyers are well defined advertisingmethods to the public. Undoubtedly, the main purpose is to pursue the increased sales ofgoods in order to achieve financial profit. For example, KFC is advertising that it cooks the bestchicken in the world to persuade more people to buy its fast food and Toyota has also doubledits sale of cars by increasing the investment in advertising through various types of media. Bothof these examples seem to demonstrate that advertising only improves the quantity of salesto drive up economical benefits.Nevertheless, when one genuinely looks into the contents of these advertisements, theirproducts are essentially improving in terms of performance and quality. Using these twoexamples again for instance, the taste of KFC chicken is from good to irresistible andmeanwhile, GPS, ABS brakes , airbag safety systems and even key-less start ignition, are alltypes of new inventions that have been adapted by Toyota to deliver a safer and morecomfortable car.In order to show their attractions in advertisements, they are required to provide betterquality and service as advertisements are considered as a promise that sellers have made tothe public. To be a responsible and moral corporation, they have to fulfill what they promisedin advertising. To sum up, advertising not only increases sales, but more importantly, as a moralcommitment from the seller, it improves the performance and quality as well.

The consuming behaviors are influenced bydiversified factors, such as impulse, self-satisfaction, curiosity, and so on. But the mostinfluential factor is the promotion of products onTV commercials and advertisements. Advertisementsare changing our consuming ideas and behaviors. It is hard to date back to the exact date whenadvertisements started. The emerge ofadvertisements is beneficial for both the purchasers and manufacturers, for the former can beinformed of the latest products, together with their novel functions and usages, which meetthe needs of consumers, and the latter, undoubtedly, can make larger margins and gainreputation through the publicity of products. In a word, advertising is like a go-betweener,who helps the manufacturers to find the best buyers.Advertisements change our consuming behaviors, according to the recent surveys carriedout by some institutes. The colors, music and slogans of advertisements are likely to stimulateaudiences’ desire to buy regardless of their real needs. Housewives often complain that theyalways buy the things useless at all, and that their purchasing decisions are made on impulse. Some advertisements often exaggerate the effects and functions of products, which inducesconsumers to make wrong decisions. What’s more, some people, especially youngsters like topursue fashion. In their eyes, advertisements represent vogue and the trend of socialdevelopment. In brief, we cannot do without advertisements, which are themain means of promotion.Nonetheless, we should be more rational when facing the allure of advertisements. Ifmanipulated by advertisements, we will act like a puppet, without any creativity. Nowadays there is a large amount of violence in films and on television. I agree that thegovernment should take some effective measures to control the amount of the violence inorder to decrease the violent crimes in society.Although we cannot establish a simple, direct, cause-and-effect relationship between mediaviolence and violence in our society, there has been extensive research indicating that thosewho as children are exposed to violent TV shows or films are much more likely to later beconvicted of crime. Because as the main mass media, TV and films can be a powerful influence indeveloping value systems and shaping behavior, especially to the young people. A case in pointis that the study shows girls who watch more than an average amount of violence tend tothrow things at their husbands, and boys who grow up watching violent TV shows are morelikely to be violent with their wives.Another reason is that too much media violence makes people become "immune" to thehorror of violence and gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems. They may thinksociety justice cannot be realized in reasonable and fair ways. Violence worship becomes moreand more popular among some young people, which will pose a potential danger to thesecurity of society. The government should be aware that TV or film violence would not disappear even if theharms can be realized widely.Violence is being used as a superficial way to attract and holdaudience. In order to decrease the violent crimes in society the government should establishstrict laws to control or even prohibit the violence on TV and in films. These days it is easy to find faults with advertising, and yet none can deny entirely that this artof persuasion is good for economy. By circulating information mixing half truth with half lying, advertising can nevertheless penetrate the public mind with desires even for somethingworthless. All told, however, advertising is doing more good than evil.To think that advertising is bad is understandable, and indeed there seems to be a commonperception growing increasingly negative. Perhaps history will see advertising as one of thereal evil factors of modern time because it is stimulating people to constantly want things;want this and want that. It is true that many consumers are convinced to spend money theydo not have for things they really do not need. It is also true that the high sales of popularconsumer goods is a reflection of the power of advertising rather than the real needs of thesociety in which they are sold. That kind of "impulsive buying" as consumer behavior can easilyturn need into greed. Apart from misleading people to desire something not necessary orcompletely useless, advertising is surrounding them nearly everywhere and anytime on the pointof boring them to death. The good news is that advertising serves market economy well, thanks in part to the mediaoutlets like television, radio, newspapers, magazines and the Internet. Through the media, particularly television, advertising gives people a chance as consumers. People are told aboutnew products and servicesthat improve their lives. In fact, economy is at its best when theadvertising industry is booming, imagining that when people are starving and freezing thereshould be no advertising whatever to sell food and fuel. Advertising holds a mirror to anaffluent society in a virtuous cycle benefitting many sectors. More advertisements mean moremoney to all media outlets, which in turn boosts more sales, which in turn pushes moreproduction and creates more jobs and therefore more buying power. Those who think that advertising is bad must think again about the value of a market systemwhich thrives on economic prosperity. Contrary to popular belief, it seems that mostconsumers do not hate advertising because of their own foolish desires. They are aware thatprobably half the money they spend on advertising is wasted, without knowing clearly whichhalf.。

In this day and age, the media is like an all powerful wizard that has a huge impact on our lives. On one hand, the media can be a great source of information. Take the news, for example. It's like a window to the world. We can find out what's going on in far flung corners of the planet. Whether it's a naturaldisaster in some small island nation or a major political event in a big country, the news media brings it to our attention. It helps us stay informed and make sense of the complex world we live in. For students, educational media, like documentaries, can be really cool. They can learn about history, science, and different cultures in an interesting way. It's much more engaging than just reading a dull textbook. However, the media also has its downsides. It can sometimes be like a big, noisy gossiper. There's so much false information out there, especially on social media. People just spread rumors without checking the facts first. It's like a game of Chinese whispers, but on a much larger scale. And the media can also create unrealistic expectations. Just look at those glamorous magazines and their pictures of perfect looking models. It makes normal people feel bad about themselves, as if they're not good enough because they don't look like those airbrushed images.Another problem is that the media can be really addictive. It's like a digital drug. People spend hours and hours scrolling through their social media feeds or binge watching shows. This can be a real waste of time and can also have a negative impact on our mental health. We might compare our ordinary lives to the exciting ones we see on the screen and feel dissatisfied. In conclusion, the media is a double edged sword. We should make good use of its positive aspects, like getting useful information and entertainment. But at the same time, we need to be really careful about its negative impacts, such as false information and the creation of unrealistic ideals. We should be smart media consumers and not let it control our lives completely.。

The mass media, including television, radio and newspapers, have great influence in shaping people’s ideas。

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?Model Answer:The mass media have a powerful influence in shaping our lives. We have come to depend on them for information and entertainment, and in doing so we let them affect important aspects of our lives. The undeniable usefulness of the media in almost instantly providing information about events around the world is largely taken for granted. But in our dependence on the media we have allowed them to mould our notions and opinions of events, places and people。

Though few of us probably think about it, our conceptions of, say, our elected officials spring from television images and newspaper stories。

Most of us will never meet prime ministers or presidents, but anyone who is regularly exposed to the media will have an opinion of them. When it is time to cast our vote,we will make our decision based on how the media portray the candidates。

The media plays a valuable role in keeping us informed and entertained. However, many people believe it has too much power and freedom.” Discuss your views on this, giving examples and presenting a balanced argument both in favor of, and against, the power and freedom of the media. Barely a hundred years ago, if we wanted to stay informed about what was going on in the world, we had to rely on word of mouth or, at best, newspapers. But because communication technology was very basic, the news we received was often days or weeks old.We still have newspapers, of course, but they have changed almost beyond recognition. Whether we choose to read the broadsheets, with their quality coverage of news ad other current affairs by top reporters and articles by acclaimed journalists, or if we prefer the popular tabloids, with their lively gossip and colorful stories, we are exposed to a wealth of information barely conceivable at the beginning of the last century. We also have television and radio. News broadcasts let us know about world events practically as they happen, while sitcoms, chat shows ad documentaries, etc. keep us entertained and informed. And there is also the internet, where we can access information from millions of websites around the world which we can then download onto our own computers. However, these forms of information and entertainment (or “infotainment” as they are sometimes collectively called) have their negative side. Famous personalities frequently accuse the gutter press (and sometimes even respectable papers) of invasion of privacy by the paparazzi who are determined to get a story at any cost. Newspapers are often accused of libel by angry politicians who dislike reading lies about themselves, and there are frequent accusations of checkbook journalism with unscrupulous reporters paying people to create stories for their newspapers or television programs. Of course, it is not just the papers which are to blame. Sex and violence are increasing on the television. Undesirable people fill the internet with equally undesirable material which can be accessed by anyone with a home computer. And the fear of information overload prevents many from logging on to the Internet.。

不关心周围的事情(rarely concerned about the people and the matters around them)同他人的互动减少(it leads to a drop in their interaction with others)3) 长期看电视会同时会损伤视力(impair vision),电视的辐射(radiation)会损伤孩子的身体健康(damage health)。

传播市场信息,(disseminate market information),介绍新产品(inform consumers of new products)让消费者选择适合自己的商品。

(enable a more qualitative choice between products to consumers)2) 广告作为一个信息传播平台,能够刺激生产商在质量上进行竞争(encourage competition in quality)鼓励产品创新(encourage product innovation),而且丰富消费者生活(enrich their lives)3) 广告刺激消费,促进产品销售量(enable greater volume to be sold),促进经济发展(promote economic development)广告的弊端:1) 广告很少提供产品的所有信息 (hardly provide full disclosure of product characteristics), 滥用消费者的信任(abuse the consumers’ trust), 利用他们缺少经验或者知识的缺点(exploit their lack of experience or knowledge), 去诱导他们购买对自己无用的产品 (manipulate them)第四招:化解以电脑为主体的媒体类作文电脑类的网络教学类考察核心非常一致,那就是,网络教学是否能够取代传统的教学方式?

教学模式化的(standardized)无法满足学生的具体需要(incompatible with the specific needs of a student)one of the major drawbacks of computer is lack of flexibility. Due to its programmatic restraints, its teaching is standardized and therefore incompatible with the specific needs of a student.2) 电脑和学生缺乏互动(lack of interaction),不能够满足学生的情感需求(fill student’s emotional needs)Owning to the lack of interaction, distance-learning can hardly fill students’ emotional needs.3) 长期盯着屏幕有伤视力 ( impair vision); 有害身体健康(damage students health)Long-time exposure to the computer would impair vision and damage students’ health.
