1The 2020 Henan English Exam Essay Scoring CriteriaHey there! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader. Our teacher Mr. Wang just told us about the scoring criteria for the essay part of the big English exam we have to take this year. It's a really important test, so I want to make sure I understand exactly what the graders will be looking for when they read my essay. Let me break it down for you!Content (40 points)This is the most important part. The graders want to see that I actually answered the essay question and had relevant ideas related to the topic. I can't just ramble about random stuff! My ideas have to be clear, with enough details and examples to support my main points.Mr. Wang said we should have a multi-paragraph structure, with an introduction paragraph that previews my main ideas. Then I need body paragraphs that expand on each of those ideasin a logical way. And finally, a conclusion paragraph that summarizes everything and leaves the reader with some food for thought.Organization (20 points)This part is about how well my essay is organized and structured. The graders will be checking if my ideas flow smoothly from one paragraph to the next, with good transitions between sentences too. No jumping around randomly!I need to group related ideas together in a coherent way, and make sure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence. Using transition words like "furthermore", "in addition", "for example", will also help show the logical connections between my points.Language (20 points)For this part, I have to demonstrate my English language abilities through proper grammar, varied vocabulary, and appropriate tone and style. The graders want to see that I can express myself clearly and accurately.I should aim to use a range of grammatical structures correctly, including different tenses, clauses, and more advanced sentence patterns I've learned. Varying my word choices and using idioms or figures of speech (but not too many!) will show Ihave a rich vocabulary. And of course, no careless spelling or punctuation mistakes! The tone has to match the purpose and audience of the essay prompt. A friendly, conversational tone would be weird for a formal argumentative essay, for example.Mechanics (10 points)This section focuses on the technical stuff - handwriting, indentation, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Basically, following all the rules for written English that we've practiced. My handwriting should be neat and legible for the graders. Leaving a blank line between paragraphs, using proper indentation, and punctuation in the right places. Little things like capitalizing the first word of a sentence properly.Following instructions (10 points)The last part is all about whether I actually followed the specific instructions for the essay prompt. Did I write about the assigned topic? Use the required format or perspectives asked for? Stay within the given word count limit? If the prompt says to write a narrative from the point of view of a historical figure, I can't turn in a persuasive essay from myown perspective! Always gotta read the instructions super carefully.Phew, that's a lot to remember! But I think if I work really hard on each of those areas, I can write an awesome essay that checks all the boxes. Our teacher Mr. Wang has been preparing us well. I just need to show off everything I've learned in English class.Wish me luck on the exam! Thanks for letting me explain the scoring criteria. Let me know if any part was still unclear. Okay, time for me to start planning and drafting my essay. Goodbye!篇22020 Henan English Test Scoring Rules Explained by a KidHi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader. I just took the big English test for middle school and I want to share what I learned about how they score it. The teachers said it's really important to understand the rules so you can get a good score.First, let me tell you about the writing section. This is where you have to write an essay or letter or story. The teachers have a whole list of things they look for to give you points. If yourwriting has good ideas and details, you can get more points. But if it's boring or doesn't make sense, you'll lose points. One of the biggest things they care about is if your writing matches the question or topic they gave you. If you just write about whatever you want instead of the assigned topic, they'll take off a bunch of points. So pay close attention to the prompt! The teachers also want to see if you can organize your writing in a clear way. That means having an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The intro gets the reader interested, the body gives all the important info, and the conclusion wraps it up nicely. If your essay is just one big mess, they'll take away points.Using grammar correctly is another biggie. If you make too many mistakes with verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and all those pesky grammar rules, your score will go down. The teachers are checking if you really know how to use English properly. They also look at your vocabulary. The more advanced, descriptive words you use, the more points you get. But don't just randomly throw in fancy words you don't understand! That's called "word stuffing" and they can spot it easily. Only use higher level vocab if you know what it means.Speaking of vocabulary, points get taken off if you just keep repeating the same basic words over and over instead of using varied word choices. The teachers want to see that you have a big vocabulary.Another thing they check is if your spelling is accurate. Misspelling common words makes it look like you don't really know English well. But they do understand that English spelling is super weird and tricky, so they'll cut you some slack for minor spelling errors. Just don't go overboard with the mistakes. The teachers also want your writing to flow smoothly and make logical sense when linking ideas together. If your sentences are choppy and unconnected, with no transition words, it'll be hard for them to understand what篇32020 Henan English Test Scoring Criteria for the Middle School Entrance ExamHi everyone! My name is Lele and I'm a 6th grader. Today I want to tell you all about the scoring for the English part of the big test we have to take to get into middle school in Henan Province. It's really important so you need to listen up!First off, the whole English test is worth 120 points total. That's a lot of points! It's divided into four sections - listening, reading, writing, and grammar/vocabulary. Each section has a different number of points. The listening part is worth 35 points. For this, you put on headphones and listen to recordings of people speaking English. Then you have to answer multiple choice questions about what you heard. The questions test if you understood the main ideas, details, and other important information. Listening is super important for learning English well.Next is the reading section which is also worth 35 points. You have to read some passages and answer multiple choice questions testing your comprehension. The passages could be articles, stories, advertisements, or other types of texts. The questions ask about the main ideas, details, word meanings, and making inferences. Reading lots of English is the best way to get better at it!Then there is the writing part which is worth 25 points. For this, you have to write a short essay of around 100-120 words on a given topic. The graders look at yourcontent, grammar, vocabulary, and overall organization. You have to plan your essay carefully and use lots of great examples and details tosupport your main idea. Writing is one of the hardest skills in English. Finally, the grammar and vocabulary section is worth 25 points too. This tests your knowledge of English grammar rules like verb tenses, parts of speech, sentence structures and so on. It also tests your vocabulary by asking you to fill in blanks with the correct words. Grammar and vocab are the building blocks of English. Those are the four sections that make up the total 120 points. But how exactly do the graders decide your scores? Well, it depends on how you do compared to other students across the whole province. For the multiple choice listening, reading, andgrammar/vocab sections, it's pretty straightforward. You get 1 point for each question you get right and 0 points for wrong answers. Then they take everyone's scores and rank them. The writing section is graded a bit differently. There is a detailed rubric the graders use to give your essay a score from 0-25 based on criteria like:-Content and ideas (did you fully answer the prompt, give examples, etc.)-Language (grammar, vocabulary use, sentence structures)-Organization (introduction, body, conclusion, transitions, etc.)-Length requirement (did you write enough or too much)The graders have to go through special training on using the rubric properly. That way the scoring is consistent and fair for everyone.Your total score on the 120 point English test then gets combined with your scores from the other subjects like math, Chinese, science etc. The overall ranking determines if you get into the middle school of your choice or not.Phew, that's a lot of information! The English test may seem hard, but if you study regularly and practice all your skills, you'll do great. It's so important for your future. After all, mastering English can open up amazing opportunities later on.Just do your best, don't stress too much, and have confidence in yourself. If you worked hard all year, that efforts will absolutely pay off. I wish everyone taking the test incredible luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.篇42020 Henan English Exam Composition Scoring CriteriaHi everyone! It's really important to understand how your writing will be graded so you can do your best!First off, there are five main categories the graders will look at:ContentOrganizationVocabularyLanguage UseMechanicsLet me explain each one:Content (最多25分)For content, the graders want to see that you fully answered the question or prompt. You need to share all the key points and details required. Don't leave anything out! Havingcomprehensive and relevant ideas with good supporting examples is really important for getting a high content score.Organization (最多20分)The organization section looks at how logically you structured your composition. There should be clear introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Use good transition words and phrases to connect your ideas too. The graders will also check that each paragraph focused on one main idea without going off-topic.Vocabulary (最多20分)Using a wide range of vocabulary words you've learned is key for this section. The graders really want to see that you know lots of different English words and can use them properly. Don't just repeat the same basic words over and over. Showing off your vocab skills is important!Language Use (最多25分)Here the graders will check if you used good English grammar. Things like correct verb tenses, sentence structures, articles, pronouns and so on. Making too many grammar mistakes will lose you points. You need to show you understand how to use English language properly.Mechanics (最多10分)The last section is about mechanics, which means spelling, punctuation, capitalization, indentation and general formatting. You've got to spell words correctly, use the right punctuation marks, and make sure your composition looks nice and neat on the page. Sloppy work loses points! Those are the five main scoring criteria for your writing section. I know it seems like a lot, but if you practice writing compositions and check over them carefully before the exam, you can do great. The most important things are:Answer the prompt fully and give lots of detailsOrganize your ideas logically into paragraphsUse varied vocabulary words you've learnedFollow English grammar rulesDouble check spelling, punctuation and formattingIf you can do all that, you'll be sure to get a high score! I know, I know, writing compositions can be a real headache, but trust me, if you follow these guidelines, you'll be sailing through it like a pro!First things first, let's talk about the scoring criteria. The big bosses who grade our compositions are looking for a few key things:Content and Ideas (40 points)This is where you get to show off your creativity and imagination! The examiners want to see that you can come up with original and interesting ideas that are relevant to the given topic. Don't just copy from textbooks or repeat the same old stuff everyone else writes. Think outside the box and let your unique personality shine through!Language and Vocabulary (30 points)Here's where you get to flex your English muscles! The graders want to see that篇6The 2020 Henan English Exam Essay Scoring Rubric Explained by a KidHi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader here in Henan Province. Our teacher just went over the scoring rubric for the essay part of the big English exam we have to take this year. It seemed pretty confusing at first, but I'll do my best to explain it in a way that makes sense to kids like me.The essay rubric has three main sections: Content, Language, and Organization. Each section has a few different things the graders will be looking for. Let's start with Content since that's probably the most important part.Content (60% of total score)For Content, you get points based on how well you understand the topic and if your ideas are relevant, clear, and detailed enough. There are three sub-categories:Task Fulfillment & Relevance (20 points)This means you actually answered the essay question properly. You can't just write about whatever random thing and expect full points! Your response needs to be clearly connected to the prompt.Development of Ideas (20 points)The graders want to see that you developed your main points well with supporting details and examples. Just stating an idea without explaining it further won't get you many points.Creativity & Examples (20 points)Using your own creative thoughts and personal experiences as examples is a great way to boost your score. The graders like to see essays that are unique and go beyond just summarizing facts. So for Content, just make sure your essay fits the prompt, has well-developed ideas with good examples, and shows some creativity and original thinking. Now let's look at Language.Language (20% of total score)This section is all about how well you can use vocabulary and grammar in English. There are two parts:Range & Accuracy of Vocabulary (10 points)You want to use a variety of advanced English vocabulary words accurately. Don't just keep repeating the same simple words over and over.Range & Accuracy of Grammar (10 points)Similar to vocabulary, the graders are checking that you can use many different English grammar structures correctly, like verb tenses, clauses, etc.The key things to focus on for Language are utilizing higher-level vocab and complex grammar points as much as you can without making too many mistakes. But don't stress too much because Content is weighted more heavily.Organization (20% of total score)The last section is all about how logically your essay is structured and formatted. It has two parts:Coherence & Progression (10 points)Your essay should flow smoothly from one idea to the next in a logical way. Each paragraph should connect to the previous one and help build your overall response.Format & Conventions (10 points)This means following proper essay formatting like having an intro and conclusion paragraph, using indentations, spacing, etc. Basically setting up your essay neatly and correctly. For Organization, just make sure your thoughts are presented coherently, your paragraphs are ordered logically, and you set up the overall format properly based on what you've learned for English essay structure.Phew, that's a lot of little details about the scoring! The most important things are:Answer the prompt clearly and in-depthSupport your ideas with relevant details and examplesUse advanced English vocabulary and grammar accuratelyStructure your essay logically with proper formattingI know it seems like a lot to think about, but you'll get better with practice. My teacher said the key is just following the rubric properly and not leaving out any of the major requirements. I really hope this kid-friendly explanation has helped make the essay scoring feel less confusing and overwhelming. Just do your best and I'm sure you'll do great! Let me know if any part still doesn't make sense.Good luck on your essays!。
