ANGLESText by Zuo ShulaD espite their similar absurdity,Green Snake and Scoundrelvs Angel express their themesin drastically different ways. Green Snake is the product of Tian Qinxin, a celebrated director with the National Theater of China, and Scoundrel vs Angel was developed by Yu Baimei, a talented screenwriter and director.Tian Qinxin veered away from her previous work with Green Snake, which interprets love and faith through a Zen angle. Inspired by a well-known centu-ries-old romantic Chinese legend, the plot revolves around love, struggle, and soli-darity between snake spirits and human beings. Throughout its running time of more than three hours, Green Snake fol-lows snake spirits’ attempts and struggle to achieve human form after hundreds of years of cultivation as well as a monk’s attempts to attain Buddhahood. To trans-form into human beings, the spirits must endure overwhelming trials and tribula-tions as well as devastating humiliation from the secular world. The audience is left pondering the road ahead after endur-ing love and lust.Tian’s theatrical depiction of spirits and Buddhist nature shares similarities with the theory of “animalistic reactions” and “supernatural abilities” put forth by Simone Weil (1909-1943). According to the French philosopher and activist, all human beings are animals at heart. In certain cir-cumstances, man makes instinctual animal reactions, and such mechanical responses dominate our minds at any given moment. Only through grasping the supernatural powers of the soul can humanity shake off the chains of animals to some extent. Thisis the heart of Green Snake’s profundity.Scoundrel vs Angel, however, getsspectators’ minds moving a completely dif-ferent way. Hearkening to a series of com-edies previously produced by Yu Baimei, this play seeks active two-way communica-tion with the audience. Along with danceand music that enhance stage spectacle, theplay’s jokes and comedic turns criticizingcontemporary social evils have made it asensation, so much so that some critics ravedabout its overwhelming “chivalrous flavor.”Despite the two plays’ sharp contrast, both directors employed innovative ap-proaches commonly reserved for experi-mental dramas. While Scoundrel vs Angelis undoubtedly comedic, Green Snakeleans towards tragedy, with humorous ele-ments meticulously woven into its plot. Itsnovel theatrical form, life-like characters, witty dialogue, and sharp interactions pushspectators to stay actively involved in theshow and contemplate the meaning of life.I used to consider drama high-browart, far from the reach of ordinary people, like symphonies or opera. But a handfulof visits to theaters in recent years provedthis assumption wrong. Shakespeare, theEnglish language’s undisputed master, wrote for the masses as well as the queen.Numerous “mainstream” writers and art-ists, including Leo Tolstoy, have calledShakespeare rude and immoral. His workcan be hardly defined by any establishedtheory, and even today, opinions still varywhen classifying his comedies and trag-edies. However, Shakespearean plays areuniversally acclaimed as timeless folk cul-ture, depicting authentic human-to-humanexchange that inspires viewers to interpretthe art through their own perceptions oflife. Anything that strikes a sympatheticchord can be easily remembered andcirculated, and when spread from mouthto mouth within a people, it enhances theconsciousness of the group and eventuallybecomes immortal.Among contemporary dramatists,Dario Fo, an Italian avant-garde playwrightand winner of the Nobel Prize for Litera-ture in 1997, is a down-to-earth artist whorelishes working for the common people.Since the beginning of his theatrical career,he has blazed a path far from orthodoxyand focused on farce and satire removedfrom traditional improvisational comedies.Aiming to do something for oppressedand impoverished people, he is inevitablydrawn to discussions of social issues andactions. He employs diverse elements suchas the cheerful atmosphere of a circus anda carnival to mask discussion of social af-fairs. Just like Yu Baimei, Fo’s style fierce-ly clashes with mainstream. Showing nointerest in working to amuse the bourgeoisclass that can afford tickets, Fo passed onthe chance to fill luxury theaters by optingto serve the populace at unofficial venuessuch as granaries while adopting street arttechniques from the medieval era to boostinteraction with the audience. Both Tian Qinxin and Yu Baimeiare unquestionably talented, but they stillhave a long way to go to reach the ranksof master dramatists like Shakespeare andDario Fo. Their work will reach nearer thegreats only when they aim even closer tothe hearts of ordinary people in terms ofartistic quality.Dramatic BreakthroughsCopyright©博看网. In America, people gather to play and celebrate the holiday. They also hold royal parties and play all the night.篇二:英语作文春节与圣诞节的对比Comparison Of Spring Festival and ChristmasThe Spring Festival is a traditional festival in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. It originated in the Shang Dynasty from the peoples sacrifice to gods and ancestors at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one. The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the solar calendar, then comes to an end when the Lantern Festival is finished. With the new year approaching, every family is busy preparing for the reunion. People completely clean the indoors and out doors of their homes as well as their clothes, bedclothes and all their utensils. Men and women go out to do spring festival shopping. Then people begin decorating their rooms featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity. All the door panels will be pasted with spring festival couplets. The content varies from house owners wishes for a bright future to good luck for the new year. The chinese character “fu” is a must. The character put on paper can be pasted upside down, for in chinese the “reversed fu” is pronounced as “fu dao le”. Whats more, red paper-cuttings can be seen on window glass and brightlycolored new year paintings with auspicious meaning may be put on the wall. In china, people always celebrate and spend the Spring Festival together with their parents and children at home. No wonder many people hurry home even from thousands of miles away, whether they are living or working abroad. This is the tradition handed down from remote antiquity. People attach great importance to Spring Festival Eve. At that time, all family members enjoy eating as many as over 10 to 16 courses of delicious dishes. In particular, almost every family makes dumplings. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting and watch TV. The Spring Festival party broadcast on CCTV is essential entertainment for the chinese both at home and abroad. According to custom, each family will stay up late till the clock strikes twelve, and then they let off various fireworks outdoors to see the Old Year off and usher the New Year in. The next three days are good time for relatives, friends, classmates as well as colleagues to exchange greetings. As the most important holiday in china is Spring Festival, the most popular holiday is Christmas in western. Although no one knows exactly when Jesus was born, christians throughout the world celebrate his birthday on December 25.This date was selected inthe fourth century so that Christmas would replace the pagan celebration of the winter solstice. People usually have two weeks for this holiday, beginning shortly before christmas and ending soon after New Year. When Christmas around the corner, western people start to prepare for the holiday excitingly. Red and green are christmas color. They decorate homes with evergreens. The winter custom of decorating homes and churches with evergreens began in ancient times. Branches of fir or spruce were thought to bring good luck and guarantee the return of spring. The modern american evergreen is usually covered with colored balls and strings of colored lights. The poinsettia plant is another familiar christmas decoration. Its star-shaped red leaves are an ideal symbol of the holiday. In western, every family traditionally have turkey or ham, sweet potatoes, vegetables, and cranberry sauce on Christmas Eve. After this big meal, children hang stockings by the fireplace, hoping that Santa, a fat, jolly man wearing a red suit, red hat, and long white beard, will fill them with candy and toys. In addition, many families go to church on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. After services, they gather aroundthe tree and open their gifts and exchange Merry Christmas greeting with each other. Then they sit down to enjoy a traditional christmas dinner.Festival, which reflects the most delicate and representative respect of culture, is the essence of human’s daily life. Spring Festival and Christmas are the most important festivals in China and Western countries, which can be described as the representatives of a culture, both with deep historical cultural connotation, and on behalf of peoples hope and expectation, it is a typical exploration of the cultural differences between the Chinese and western festivals. It is convenient to absorb the outstanding foreign cultures sensibly by summarizing the differences, in order to protect and promote the cultural essence of the Chinese nation.篇三:春节与圣诞的区别英文The Differences Between Spring Festival and Christmas Festival, as a cultural phenomenon, comes into being during the course of human development and historical evolution. This unique cultural phenomenon embodies human cognition and attention to the natural environments and peripheral surroundings. The Spring Festival is thechief holiday in China while Christmas is the most important day in the western world. The Spring Festival and Christmas have much in common. Both are prepared beforehand to create a joyous atmosphere; both offer a family reunion with a square feast: and both satisfy the children with new clothes, lovely presents and delicious food. However, the Chinese Spring Festival has no religious background while Christmas has something to do with God and there is Santa Claus with white heard to bring children presents. The westerners send each other Christmas cards for greetings while the Chinese people pay a call on each other.Nowadays, some of the Chinese youth has begun to celebrate Christmas, following the example of the westerners. Perhaps they do so just for fun and out of curiosity. Although the different regions, nations, religions and cultures bring about multifarious festivals, and the means of celebration vary from one place to another, most of people bear common feelings for the festivals, that is praying for happiness and health, fulfilling the good will, and showing the love of life. The most important holiday in China is Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year. The date for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar, so the timing of the holiday(the 1st day of a lunar year) varies from late January to early February. The festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year s Day and ends onthe 15t(转载于: 在点网:春节和圣诞节的异同英语作文)h day of the firstmonth of the lunar calendar, which is called the Lantern Festival. It is to say, in the ancient China, there was a man-eating beast called Nian from the mountains, which it came out every 12 months somewhere close to winter to prey on humans. The people found out that the Nian was sensitive to loud noises and the color red, so they scared it away with explosions with fireworks and the liberal use of the color red. These customs led to the first New Year celebrations. “Traditional Chinese”, which means to celebrate the new year, literally means the Passover of the Nian.Compare to the Spring Festival, Christmas is talking about the people, Jesus. The Nativity(基督的诞生) refers to the birth of Jesus. The story of Christmas is based on the biblical accounts given in the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. According to these accounts, Jesus was bornto the Virgin Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph, in the city of Beth Lethem. The infant Jesus was laid in a manger, and Shepherds from the fields surrounding Bethlehem were told of the birth by an angel, and were the first to see the child. Christians believe that the birth of Jesus fulfilled many prophecies made hundreds of years before his birth. In the U.S., Christmas decorations at public buildings once commonly included Nativity scenes. This practice has led to many lawsuits, as some say it amounts to the government endorsing a religion. In 1984, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a city-owned Christmas display, even one with a Nativity scene, does not violate the First Amendment. Now, we would think “Traditional Chinese” like that the pass year is over and welcome to the next year’s coming. There are many celebrations and activities such as we should clear the house for the coming year; we would have reunion dinner on the last day of the year. Every Chinese all excited to this day because not only all family will come back but also the children will get the red envelopes which there are some money inside which means good luck to the children. In that evening maybe some of the family will take a gambling with poker or dices. We are crazy about thisbecause we can know whether we have a good luck in the next year or not. It is fun. And in the next year, we would obeisance to our ancestry. It is very important to Chinese people. We think that obeisance to ancestry can tell them about we will have the next New Year. And we hope they can bless and protect us in the next year. Everything is fine and smoothly. Something likes that. In the second day of the New Year, the women who married someone should come back to her original family to visit her parents with her husband and children. Then the few following day, we will go out for vacations with other family or friends. It’sreally a vocation to family. Because they can not come home easily in a whole year, we all cherish the time. There are many celebrations in west world too. For example, they will use Christmas tree, color red, and something decorations include bells, candles, candy canes, stocking, wreaths, and angles. Sometimes, we can see snowmen, sleighs, and other Christmas figures in the Christmas cards. But one thing is similar to Spring Festival is that family in other places will come home to celebrate Christmas. Christmas Day is a time for families to get together and exchange gifts before either going to church orhaving their Christmas lunch. Until recently this would have been a traditional meal of turkey, cranberry sauce, ham, pork and vegetables followed by a flaming Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. However, due to the diversity of cultures within Australia, and the fact that the weather is so hot at this time of year, many people now have cold meat or seafood with salads and it is often taken as a picnic either to the country or to the beach. As modern world is becoming smaller and smaller, intercultural communication thrives to make people familiarize with the other nation. As a result, Chinese Spring Festival is celebrated by many foreigners, especially in China town, and vice versa.史晓明QQ:285092076篇四:春节与圣诞节的异同中国春节和西方圣诞节的相同点和不同点相同点:1 They are both各个地方最隆重的一种民族庆祝的节日。

On the Religious V iewpoint on Passover
Passover is a predominant Jewish holy day and festival. It is celebrated to commemorate the Exodus (Holy Bible, New Revised Standard Version), in which the ancient Israelites were breed from the slavery in Egypt. It is recorded that when the Israeli ancestors were repressed by Egyptians earlier, Jehovah appeared before Moses instructing him to mark the doorposts of the Israelis’ homes with blood of spring lamb with hyssop and, in doing so, the spirits of the god would pass over there homes in the inflicting Ten Plagues upon Egypt, hence the name “Passover”.
From what has been told above, people would probably be moved by god’s kindness and sense of compassion towards those Israelis who were in great suffers. However; to save poor Israelites by inflicting cruel Ten Plague upon Egypt, Lord then putted thousands of innocent, helpless Egyptians into extreme misery. If God burdens the duty to help people out of distress, which has moved hundreds of thousands of Christians into tears and thus converted many of them, how could God so heartless to punish and revenge Egyptians, Or god is not really the kind father of all human being but the one who only showed mercy to Jews is beyond what I can figure out.
Providing the Jehovah is really the father of Israel children, could the truth of the story about Passover be convincible? Lord could create one Exodus for his children’s sake, then how could it be possible to ignore his
people’s suffer when Jews were expelled and massacred by Nazi and even in the whole world in W WⅡ(the second world war), instead of another appearance before some prophet and instructing him to save the suffered Israelites? Or had God changed his mind and converted his love and tenderness to other nations and other children?
In the observation of Passover, to commemorate the lamb which had been killed for their blood in Exodus and express gratefulness, Israelites have used roast bones of the lambs, which seemed to be contradictory and hard to accept the sincerity of the devout Judaists. To show your thanks and gratefulness to your helper by sacrificing them with their very body is somewhat ridiculous. Maybe that is where the religion usually messed up within itself and why religion loses its attraction in front of most Chinese people.
Even the lack of due logical diligence, the mysterious and sacred atmosphere in the celebration of Passover still shows its fascination as a religious festival. As an atheist, what matters to me is not in the religious doctrine but the pious hearts and the clean, peaceful lifestyle.
