公共场所是否应该禁烟Should Smoking Be Banned in Public Restaurants

Should Smoking Be Banned in Public Restaurants? In the perfect situation, smoking policy would be set by bar or restaurant owners, and customers would patronize the establishments with the policy they prefer. Customers would decide—without the government’s help—if they want to avoid smoke-filled rooms or enter them. They might even choose tosit in an area sectioned off for smokers or non-smokers, but the ultimate issue is choice (Ruwart 1). When the government starts telling restaurant owners what their customers can and cannot do, the government is overstepping its boundaries. Our government aims to protect us—to save us from society’s evils. However, in an attempt to protect the public from the effects of passive smoking (second hand smoke)—of which, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service in 1994, “the statistical evidence does not . . . support a conclusion that there are substantive health effects . . .” (Krauthammer)—the feds have failed to protect a vital part of the U.S. economic population: business owners. Many people who drink also tend to smoke; banning drinkers from smoking has hurt business in some bars and restaurants. “According to the California Licensed Beverage Association, business has dropped as much as 85 percent . . . since the prohibition took effect” (“Bar Owners Vow” 1). The decrease in customers and subsequent loss of revenue has far-reaching effects on employers. A study by the American Beverage Institute entitled “Effect of 1998 California Smoking Ban on Bars, T averns, and Night Clubs” asked 300 respondents about the effects of the ban on their businesses. When asked if the ban caused owners to lay off employees or cut working hours, 29.7 percent of respondents answered “yes”; 59 percent gave the same answer when asked if they experienced a loss of tips/gratuities for bar and serving-staff employees (1). The plight of restaurant and bar owners is often ignored, but it is a serious issue for them and for their employees. While the argument rages over the effects of smoking on public health, the question that remains is this: “How much is society entitled to penalize smokers for their decisions because—in society’s view—those decisions are unhealthy?” (Samuelson). Smoking tobacco is not an illegal act, yet the 25 percent of Americans who do smoke are often treated as if they were criminals. They are incessantly nagged, blamed for numerous illnesses and unpleasantries, and made to feel guilty by self-righteous nonsmokers (Bork28). The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that living with a smoker increases your chance of lung cancer by 19 percent. What they fail to tell you is that, in contrast, (firsthand) smoking increases your chance 1,000 percent (Buckley). Why is the act of smoking tobacco, which merely injures oneself, so scrutinized and shunned by society, while drinking alcohol, which is by far more deadly to innocent bystanders, is accepted by society and virtually unregulated? (Krauthammer). One may not wish to be seated near an extremely obese person in a restaurant, but it would certainly be unconstitutional to deny service to these patrons. In modern society, the government knows better than to discriminate against minorities, senior citizens, or the physically handicapped; it does not hesitate, however, to discriminate against smokers.Personal choice is a simple principle that is highly valued in American society. Banning smoking in all public restaurants violates this principle and jeopardizes our freedom. Smoking should not be banned in all restaurants. A ban on smoking imposes unnecessary governmental interference in private business, affects business owners negatively, and discriminates against smokers. Like the black Southerner turned away because of racial segregation, the smoker is unfairly treated. Sadly, just when our government claims to be whisking away the clouds of smoke, it is legislating a cloud of discrimination.。

Smoking should be banned in public places

Smoking should be banned in public places

1.Smoking should be banned in public placesMany surveys, studies and scientific research has proved that smoking and second-hand smoking is harmful to our health. Thus, I think it's necessary to ban smoking in public places. Here are my reasons.First of all, smoking pollutes the environment. When a person smokes, it releases plenty of carbon dioxide to the air, which not only polluting the environment but also harm the people around.Secondly, it is greatly harmful to people not only physically but also mentally. One survey showed that smokers are easier to suffer from various diseases such as lung cancer and lung cancer than non-smokers. Cigarette contains plenty of nicotine which can destroy the immune system of human beings. Once the immune system is weakened, people are easy to fall ill. Moreover, smokers are easy to get addicted and can not control themselves. Also, there are two types of smokers, active and passive. The person who smokes is active and other who are near him and inhale the smoke are passive smokers. Both are equally affected by the ill effects of smoking. Smokers and non-smokers meet at many public places like offices, restaurants, hotels and so on. This makes it possible for smokers to pass on second-hand smoke to non-smokers.Therefore, to be fair to non-smokers and to protect our environment, I strongly agree that smoking should be banned in public places.2.Academic qualification ensures success in life.I agree with this point for the following reasons.First, academic qualification ensures you have the basics in learning. If your basic grounding in math, science, and language is strong, your chances to success may increases a lot than those who do not have academic qualifications. Mastering these subjects allows you to calculate, to innovate and to communicate. These essentials for success cannot be learned without professional help in schools and colleges.Second, if you look at a global directory of successful people, you may find millions of doctors, engineers, IT professionals, lawyers and advocates who rely upon their formal education. These people may have extreme talent, but what made them success later in life is the higher education they received from schools. These education guided them to study farther into their fields and gave them inspiration.Last, everyone has heard of Bill Gates and his outstanding achievements. You may say that Gates did not receive much academic education, but he still succeed. Well, success isn't a just matter of building a huge firm from scratch and making billions of dollars by that definition, only a tiny number of people in the world could be considered successful. No, success is about making the most of your talents and abilities, and that requires dedication and study in academic institutions that will help you discover your potentials.。

We believe that smoking should be banned in public places.1.未成年人吸烟:China is one of the world's largest cigarette producer and consumers. In 2014, the number of smokers exceeds 300 million, over a half of whom admit starting to smoke under the age of 18, and 1 in every 10 junior high school boys is habitual smoker. Those who smokes in public places are effective advertisements for teenagers, seducing these young potential smokers to eventually become interested in cigarette.(imitate --> it’s cool to smoke, a symbol of adulthood) By banning smoking in public places, it will slow down the growth of the number of smokers, preventing hundreds of thousands of kids from doing harm to themselves. We are doing a thing which will greatly benefit the next generation.2.二手烟:A research conducted by Chinese government in 2007 shows that there are at least 540 million (40% of the whole population) non-smokers regularly exposed to secondhand smoke, among whom 180 million are under 15. Besides children, women are also particularly susceptible to secondhand smoke, especially for those who are pregnant. Scientists suggest that secondhand smoking does no less harm than smoking, causing serious disease like lung cancer and heart disease. Some people argue that it’s smokers right to choose to smoke; but non-smokers do not choose to smoke passively, which makes them feel that their rights are violated. They are forced to breathe in polluted air, while smokers can do harm to others’health freely just to satisfy their own needs. Banning smoking in public places is a reasonable and fair way to solve the dispute between smokers and non-smokers.3.*工作效率:Many smokers can’t help smoking during work time, no matter what their jobs are. Even officials and policemen smoke in workplaces, which will definitely reduce work efficiency. Some will argue that smoking can help them to think more clearly, but this is an ambiguous feeling that varies from every single smoker, and has no scientific proof. And we believe that a qualified worker should be able to think clearly without the help of nicotine. What’s more, for those workers who do not smoke, they should be provided with places to do their jobs away from smoke disturbing them. Banning smoking in public, especially in workplace, can help build a clean and efficient environment for both smokers and non-smokers.4.火灾:Smoking in public places increases the risk of fire accident. There are many cases of fire accidents caused by careless smoking, such as throwing away burning cigarette butts, falling asleep when holding a cigarette usually after drunk, etc. Statistics show that careless smoking is in the top 5 main reasons of fire accidents, causing more than 10% of them in 2013, China. If smoking is banned in public, it will to a large extent eliminate the possibility of this kind of tragedy, at least in public places, which usually causes enormous damage.。

Smoking not only harms the smoker, but also those who are nearby. Therefore, smoking should be banned in public places. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Medical studies have shown that smoking not only leads to health problems for the smoker, but also for people close by. As a result of this, many believe that smoking should not be allowed in public places. Although there are arguments on both sides, I strongly agree that a ban is the most appropriate course of action.医学研究表明,吸烟不仅会导致吸烟者的健康问题,而且也会导致身边的人的健康问题。

因此,许多人认为公共场所不应该允许吸烟。

虽然双方都有争论,但我强烈同意禁令是最适当的行动方针。

Opponents of such a ban argue against it for several reasons. Firstly, they say that passive smokers make the choice to breathe in other people’s smoke by going to places where it is allowed. If they would prefer not to smoke passively, then they do not need to visit places where smoking is permitted. In addition, they believe a ban would possibly drive many bars and pubs out of business as smokers would not go there anymore. They also argue it is a matter of freedom of choice. Smoking is not against the law, so individuals should have the freedom to smoke where they wish.反对这一禁令的人有几个理由反对。

英语作文 Smoking 公共场所禁烟

Smoking not only harms the smoker, but also those who are nearby. Therefore, smoking should be banned in public places. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience. Write at least 250 words.Model Answer 1:The earlier we can ban smoking in public places, the better it would be for the human kind. Having foreseen the same, many offices and governing bodies imposed a strict ban on public smoking. This measure is generally applauded by themajority of mass. However, the opposing minority interrupt this ban as an act of arrest on one's free will. Let us discourse on this moot issue below. It is generally agreed and even proven with scientific studies, that smoking is injurious to health. Health problems that smoking can induce are numerous. Cancer is among the major detrimental effects of smoking on one’s health. As it is rightly displayed on the cigar packets , smoking is one of the primary factors leading to cancer. Furthermore, effects of smoking on the systemic and peripheralcirculation in the human body are appalling, as put forward by medical experts. The havoc of this insane habit is so horrifying, that research points towards its possible harmful effects on unborn children, even. Smoking is considered as a culprit among the many, behind the congenital birth defects and anomalies.Another factor significant to this context would be the financial constraints imposed by smoking. In many developing countries, where people work on daily wages, the habit of smoking has an atrocious impact on their quality of life. In the majority of the mediocre families, around theworld, smoking drains the significant part of their family budgets. For example, I witnessed many problems with reference to my father being a chronic smoker and the financial crisis it caused. The amount of carbon and other toxic elements exhaled to the atmosphere by active smokers has reached such dizzy heights that its effect on passive smokers is more or less a reality now. In fact, the effect of first-hand smoke is seen permeable to even the second and third-hand smokers in the spectrum. The significance of the public ban on smoking is not just justifying but a necessity as it calls for. As a result, it is widelybanned in some offices and institutions. Awareness programmes are being conducted all around the world against this habit. Though the public ban on smoking is an individual constraint to one's freedom, considering the passive effects of smoking I would strongly accord win the ban.In my view, this would be a punitive measure to safeguard the health and wealth of the public or the society.Model Answer 2:Smoking has inevitably been a concern of governments around the globe considering how to manage and educate smoking people. This is due largely to the danger of the substance contained in the cigarettes, nicotine. As its drawback may also occur for the people near the smokers, policies related to this, particularly in public places, should be taken into account; whether it should be banned or not.I personally think that forbidding such dangerous activity will be much beneficial that it can prevent others from having a vulnerable respiratory system. Moreover, this can maintainthe places so clean that people could always find them fascinating with less air pollution. However, governments should consciously provide some special places which, in this case, can be used for smoking. On the other hand, people who have currently been addicted to smoke would feel hard to avoid smoking in such places. As a result, they may smoke breaking the rule and not even feeling guilty. For this reason, there are two steps then to encounter this probable emerging problem. First, some strict law and appropriate punishment such as to pay more tax or to giveany charity orphans or others needing. Second, education is one of the most prominent and essential ways t o change peoples’ belief in terms of having their cigarette burnt. However, banning such activity in public places is not merely a way to prevent others from the harms of smokes, but it will, to a larger extent, possibly be able to elevate people’s aware ness of how dangerous smoking is.To sum up, despite being a hard thing for smokers to not smoke, the policy which bans smoking in public places should be applied in order to save others. Nonetheless, people’seducation in terms of the drawbacks of smoking is a part of this aim.。

公共场合是否应该禁烟英语作文

公共场合是否应该禁烟英语作文In my opinion, smoking should be banned in public places. There are several reasons why I believe this is necessary. Firstly, secondhand smoke is harmful to non-smokers, especially to children and elderly people. By allowing smoking in public places, we are putting the health of innocent bystanders at risk.Secondly, smoking in public places can also lead to littering. Cigarette butts are often discarded on the ground, leading to environmental pollution. This not only affects the appearance of public spaces, but also harms the environment by releasing toxic chemicals into the soil and water.Furthermore, banning smoking in public places can helpto encourage smokers to quit. If they are unable to smokein public areas, they may be more motivated to give up the habit altogether. This can have a positive impact on public health by reducing the number of people affected bysmoking-related illnesses.Overall, I believe that banning smoking in public places is a necessary step to protect the health of non-smokers, prevent environmental pollution, and encourage smokers to quit.在我看来,公共场合应该禁止吸烟。

高中生英语作文《公共场所应不应该禁止吸烟》

高中生英语作文《公共场所应不应该禁止吸烟》Should Smoking Be Banned in Public Places? In recent years, the debate on whether smoking should be banned in public places has become increasingly heated. While some argue that individuals should have the freedom to smoke wherever they choose, others contend that the negative health effects of smoking and second-hand smoke necessitate a ban.In my opinion, smoking should be strictly prohibited in public areas.Firstly, smoking poses significant health risks not only to the smoker but also to those around them.Second-hand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, including more than 70 that can cause cancer.Exposure to second-hand smoke can lead to various health problems, such as respiratory infections, heart disease, and lung cancer.By banning smoking in public places, we can protect non-smokers from these harmful effects.Secondly, smoking in public places inconveniences others. The smell of smoke can be unpleasant and intrusive, causing discomfort to those who do not smoke.Furthermore, the act of smoking often creates a hostile environment for non-smokers, as they are forced to breathe in有毒气体.Banning smoking in public places would create a more enjoyable and accommodating environment for everyone.Thirdly, a ban on smoking in public places can help reduce the number of smokers.seeing others suffer the consequences of smoking, such as health problems and social stigma, may deter potential smokers from starting the habit.Additionally, the ban would make it easier for current smokers to quit, as they would be less tempted to smoke in public.Lastly, governments can save money by implementing a smoking ban in public places. The costs associated with smoking-related illnesses, such as healthcare expenses and lost productivity, place a burden on society.By reducing the number of smokers, governments can allocate these resources more effectively. In conclusion, the ban on smoking in public places is essential to protect public health, ensure a comfortable environment for all, reduce the number of smokers, and save government resources. While it is important to respect individual freedom, it is equally important to prioritize the well-being of society as a whole. Therefore, I strongly support the implementation of strict smoking bans in public areas.。

公众场所禁止吸烟作文英文回答:Smoking should be banned in public places for several reasons. In many countries, there are strict regulations on smoking in public places, such as restaurants, bars, and public transportation, to protect non-smokers from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. For example, in my country, smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places, including offices, shopping malls, and airports. This helps to create a healthier environment for everyone.Secondly, smoking in public places can create a nuisance for others. The smell of smoke can be unpleasant and irritating to non-smokers, and it can also linger in the air for a long time. Non-smokers may feel uncomfortable or even have difficulty breathing in areas where smoking isallowed. By banning smoking in public places, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy a clean and fresh environmentwithout being bothered by the smell and smoke of cigarettes.Furthermore, smoking in public places sets a bad example for young people. When young people see adults smoking in public, they may perceive it as a normal and acceptable behavior. This can increase the likelihood of them starting to smoke at a young age. By implementing aban on smoking in public places, we can send a clear message to young people that smoking is not a desirablehabit and should be avoided. In conclusion, smoking should be prohibited in public places to protect the health of both smokers and non-smokers, to create a more pleasant environment for everyone, and to discourage young people from starting to smoke.
