three parts:The fore stage for outside scenes;the inner stage for scenes inside a building;an upper stage or balcony for various purposes. The reason for this design is that there were no scene of script writing. The Restoration TheaterSome of the plays told sad stories, but the majority of the plays were really funny. Many specialized machines were used to create the scene. The stage was a very questions when she had them—questions about language, yes, but also questions about the new culture she found herself in.In turn,I asked my own questions, growing curious about her home country and This allowed a great mass of people to enjoy a show at a time. Due to this, actors placed emphasis on exaggerated(夸张的) action and speech. And, colorful symbolic masks and costumes were used. The Medieval TheaterThe Medieval theater started in churches. That’s why medieval plays were about Bible st ories. At first, it became a custom for priests ( 牧师) to act out brief scenes during Christmas and Easter. These acts attracted large crowds. Finally the church refused to allow priests to participate in any such events again, so ordinary people began these performances outside. Performances were set in the town square, with several stage settings around it.The Elizabethan TheaterThe England’s theater developed rapidly in the years following the defeat of the Spanish Navy. The dominant feature of Elizabethan theater was the stage, It has three parts : The fore stage for outside scenes ; the inner stage for scenes inside a building; an upper stage or balcony for various purposes. The reason for this design is that there were no scene changes, or breaks during the play. Very little scenery was used, so the actors had to create a scene through their voices and dialogues. This led to a more poetic script, and poets became the main source of script writing. The Restoration TheaterSome of the plays told sad stories, but the majority of the plays were really funny. Many specialized machines were used to create the scene. The stage was a very clever idea, in that on the sides of the stage large back shutters(百叶窗) were painted with the scene.1.Why were ancient Greek theaters built on hills?A.To hold a large audience.B.To build a big and strong stage.C.To have a better sound effect.D.To emphasize exaggerated performances.2.In which theater could actors’ voices and speech help create scenes?A.The Greek Theater.B.The Medieval Theater.C.The Elizabethan Theater.D.The Restoration Theater.3.What is special about The Restoration Theater?A.Colorful masks were used.B.The stage was smartly designed.C.Most of its plays were sorrowful.D.Ordinary people were the performers.BA new family moved in next door and I got to meet the mother of the family, Lydia. Lydia is Korean, and her family moved to our city so her husband could go to graduate school. We started talking, and she was apologetic about how bad her English was, but I didn’t care. I knew how hard it was to learn a second language. I enjoyed chatting with Lydia as we watched our kids play.It was what came next that challenged me: Lydia asked if I’d be willing to help her with her English. Now, I am not a teacher. I admire teachers, and I’m grateful for teachers, and it’s because I admire what they do so much that I was very very sure that I couldn’t do it myself. But Lydia was sure that she wanted my help. I was doubtful. I wasn’t sure my “help” was even worth being called by that name. But because she asked me, I said “yes. ” And that was the beginning of a friendship. Lydia and I spent afternoons sitting together and reading the newspaper, and as we did, she asked me questions when she had them—questions about language, yes, but also questions about the new culture she found herself in. In turn, I asked my own questions, growing curious about her home country and culture. We bonded over our shared faith and our struggles as mothers of kids with special needs. When I complimented( 恭维) her cooking, she began to teach me about Korean food, eventually leading to a shared trip to explore the Korean grocery stores in our city. Because of Lydia, I learned more about my own hometown than I ever could have learned by myself. I’m still not sure that I’m any good as a teacher. But I’m grateful I said “yes” when my neighbor asked me to help her with her English. That meant spen ding extra time with my neighbor, and that extra time meant she didn’t remain just my neighbor. She became my friend.4.What was Lydia sorry about?A.Her bad English.B.Her carelessness.C.Nobody teaching her English.D.Her poor life in a new place.5.What can be concluded from the third paragraph?A.The author admired teachers.B.The author wanted to be a teacher.C.The author didn’t want to help Lydia.D.The author was not confident in helping Lydia.6.Why was the author grateful at the last paragraph?A.She managed to learn English well.B.She made friends with her neighbor.C.She learned how to cook Korean food.D.She realized her dream of being a teacher.7.What can we learn from the passage?A.No pains, no gains.B.A friend in need is a friend indeed.C.To help others is to help ourselves.D.Where there is a will, there is a way.CWeChat is a social mobile application with voice and text messaging timeline and several social features like “Message in a Bottle”. WeChat, a popular instant messaging tool run by Tencent Holdings, aims to help users access mobile services without downloading separate apps, which experts said may challenge the business of smartphone app distributors such Apple Store. This new feature, named “Mini Programs”, allows WeChat users to find a variety of services such as ticket buying by scanning a QR (quick-response) code, saving them the trouble of installing a number of different apps on smart devices, according to the transcript of a speech by Zhang Xiaolong, Tencent’s senior executive vice president, on Wednesday. The new function is expected to come online on January 9.Zhang, known as the father of WeChat, emphasized that “Mini Programs” is not a mobile app distributing function.Still, experts and app developers said that the rollout ( 推出) of “Mini Programs” on WeChat will erode the market share of app distributors like Apple Store in China.“‘Mini Programs’ will attract lots of start-ups, because a program based on WeChat can help them build up businesses at much lower costs, ” a Shangh ai-based app developer, told the Global Times on Wednesday. If a start-up wants to promote its business via a separate application, it has to hire a special team to develop two different apps—one each for IOS and Android.Launched in 2011, WeChat has evolv ed to include services such as “Order Taxi”, “Food Delivery”, e-commerce and payments from just an instant messaging app.8.What can we know about “Mini Programs”?A. It’s expensive.B. It’s complex.C. It’s convenient.D. Promote.11.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.WeChat will be a perfect app.B.WeChat will meet a great challenge.C.WeChat will meet needs of more people.D.WeChat will replace other apps.DIn my memory, winters always used to be really unpleasant. You had to bundle up just to keep warm when you went outside. You were often cold, wet, slip on the ice, and you’d arrive home to an ice-cold house. And that would mean turning on the heating and waiting. It’s a miracle you didn’t get c old to the bone.Fortunately, things don’t have to be so challenging any more. Technology, engineering and design have advanced giving us new solutions to old problems. It means dealing with winter needn’t be like skating on thin ice. With a smart thermostat ( 温度自动调节器), our homes can be warm when we need them to be. Many models feature smartphone apps that allow you to control temperature remotely, so we can warm up the house before we arrive home. According to techradar. com, Tado’s model features voice control, while the Nest ‘leans’ your habits and automatically heats the home for you.Clothes have been given an upgrade, too. Electronic thermal jackets, sweaters and coats heat up when you turnthem on. What is the better way to keep warm in the dead of winter? At the touch of a button, or through an app on our phones, the clothing generates heat from elements placed inside. Many models offer three levels of heating which stay warm for over 12 hours. Finally, there is the clothing for the head, Beanies and Earmuffs, that feature speakers included in the fabric using Bluetooth technology so we can listen to our favourite music or, in some cases, have a phone call using the in-built microphone. All while keeping the head warm and avoiding a cold. For many, the thought of winter used to be enough to make their blood run cold. But using technology, life needn’t freeze up. With the right solutions, there’s no reason why winter can’t be really, really cool.12.What do the underlined words “bundle up” mean in Para. 1?A. Fix an air conditioner.B. Take a hot bath.C. Run a lot.D. Put on more clothes.13.How does electronic thermal clothing work?A.The equipment placed inside the clothing produces heat.B.It needs to be warmed up before being used.C.The thermostat heats up automatically when the temperature is low.D.It keeps warm for over 12 hours after being charged for an hour.14.From the passage, we can learn the following statements EXCEPT that .A.Tado’s model can be controlled by saying something to itB.with the in-built speaker and microphone, Beanies and Earmuffs users can have a phone callC.technology can do nothing to make winter less roughD.Bluetooth technology is used in the clothing for the head15.What’s the best title of this passage?A.A Smart ThermostatB.A Modern WinterC.Ways of Keeping WarmD.An Unpleasant Winter第二节(共5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分12.5 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Australia’s fires were worsened by the combination of those two.2019was the perfect storm for being the warmest year on record for Australia and the driest year on record for Australia,”Hausfather added on Friday.Kevin Trenberth,a senior scientist at the US National Center for Atmospheric Research, said warmer ocean temperatures are also contributed to more variable weather around the world.Trenberth believes that global warming contributed to energy imbalances and hot spots in the oceans, which can create a wave in the atmosphere that locks weather patterns in places, causing longer rain events in Indonesia, for example, and at the same time contributing todrought in Australia. He said that once an area experiences drought conditions for two months or more,it increases the risk of fires catching and spreading. Those changing weather patterns due to global warming make drought events longer.Climate experts stress that climate change is not the only factor in the severity of wildfires. How land is managed can also impact the amount of fuel available for fires.Practices like controlled burns and other factors can impact the risk to people and property, such as warning systems and the type of development in a given area. Changing those policies has great potential to limit future damage from wildfires along with changes to how fire management resources are dispatched(派遣).8.What do the numbers in paragraph1show?A.The causes of Australian fires.B.The results of Australian fires.C.The damaged areas of Australian fires.D.The property destruction of Australian fires.9Which of the following best explains“more susceptible to”underlined in the second paragraph?A.Quick to adapt to.B.Sure to cause.C.Sensitive to.D.Easy to be protected from.10.What can we infer from Trenberth's research?A.Global warming is the root cause of the bushfires.B.Longer dry weather contributes to global warming.C.Warmer ocean temperatures promote fires spreading.D.The imbalanced energy leads to the temperature rising.11.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?A.To stress the effects of Australia fires.B.To show the methods for controlling burns.C.To predict the seriousness of Australia fires.D.To provide some advice about reducing damage.DLawns(草坪)are very common in the world. But why do people keep such uninteresting little plants outside their homes? They're not beautiful like flowers, they don't provide food and you have to cut them constantly.Israeli world history professor Yuval Noah Harari looked into their history and ended up“unearthing"a strange story that goes back to the Middle Ages.No one had considered putting patches of grass outside of their homes in ancient times. That changed when French and English kings started putting carefully cropped patches of grass at their castle entrances.Peasants could never afford their time or land on lawns,so these artificial lawns were a perfect status symbol of nobility. You could even assess a nobleman's wealth by looking at his lawn:if a lawn was massive and well kept,it indicated a powerful family dynasty. If it was in bad shape, the nobleman was probably broke.Humans therefore came to identify lawns with political power, social and economic wealth,"wrote Harari. When the Industrial Revolution took place in the18th and19th centuries, the middle classes started being able to afford their own suburban houses. And guess what became their status symbol?A perfectly kept lawn. The popularity of lawns continued to grow, taking over public event spaces and sportsmen. In the past, people played sports on all kinds of surfaces dirt, ice, and sand. But in the last couple centuries, they made the switch to green grass or something made to imitate green grass.Nowadays people use tons of water on lawns, even during droughts, without realizing they care for the lawns only because centuries ago kings just wanted to show off their wealth by intentionally planting something useless.“When you now come to plant your dream house, you might think twice about having a lawn in the front yard sale," wrote Harari.“You can plant something useful or imagine for yourself a Japanese rock garden,or some altogethernew creation."12.Why does the author raise the question in Paragraph1?A.To carry out a survey.B.To rethink the use of the lawn.C.To lead in the topic.D.To add fun to the text.13.Why did kings grow lawns in front of their castle?A.To beautify the environment.B.To feed some animals.C.To prove their good use.D.To show off their status.14.How might Harari feel about the lawns?A.They are creative.B.The are useless.C.They are beautiful.D.The are necessary.15.What can be the best title for the passage?A.Various ideas on lawns.B.The significance of lawns.C.The development of lawns.D.The effect of lawns on social status.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
