There is nothing new about people losing their patience while stuck in traffic or waiting in line. But some experts believe that people are less patient today than in the past-and for reasons that might surprise you. Some analysts suggest that in recent years many people are less patient because of technology. They suggest that “ digital technology, from cellphones to cameras to email toa idPs,is changing our lives. The instant results we get from this technology have in turn increased our desire for instant gratification in other aspects of our lives. ”Psychologist Jennifer Hartstein makes some observations. She explains that “ weh ave become an immediate satisfaction culture, and we expect things to move quickly, efficiently and in the way we want. When that doesn't happen, we tend to become increasingly frustrated and unsatisfied. Some believe that e-mail is losing popularity and could soon become outdated. Why? Because many people who send messages do not have the patience to wait hours, or even minutes, for a response. Also, with e-mails, as with letter writing, introductory and concluding greetings are often expected. But many people consider such formalities (客套)to be boring and time-consuming. They prefer instant messaging 。

The appeal of the interview has everything to do with the human factor. Most people believe that they are a reasonable judge of character and trust their instinctive feeling. We might use some kind of test to aid theselection process, but we usually pick a candidate who interviews well, has good qualifications and impressive work record. But suppose the candidate lies or is less than completely honest. “This can be a serious problem for employers”, explains Alan Conrad, Chief Executive at Optimus Recruiment. “The most difficult liars to find are those who tell half-truths rather than complete lies.”Research shows that up to 75 percent of resumes are inaccurate on purpose. The most common practice is omission.Interviewer should therefore concentrate on areas of uncertainy such as gaps between periods of employment and job descriptions that seem strange. “Focusing on these areas will force candidates to tell the truth or become increasingly dishonest. This is usually when people signal their anxiety by their body language. Sweat on the upper lip, false smiles and nervous hand movements all indicate discomfort.”Conrad does not suggest an aggressive policy-style interview technique , but insists that close inspection of a resume is absolutely essential. Only by asking the right questions can you confirm the suitability of the candidate or put pressure on those who are being less than completely honest.21. Coots need to be tricky because of the nunsual way the animals. Compete: One coot will put its eggs secretly into another’s nest to trick the host into raising the invader’s eggs. But nest owners use their wits to fight back, Lyon finds.Over four summers, Lyon monitored 400 coot nests near Williams Lake in central British Columbia, tagging the eggs with a marker. Of these , 160 coot nests received eggs from unrelated coots. The hosts generally were not fooled, however,. About half the time, coot parents rejected thestrange eggs completely, usually by burying them deep in the nest.“Foreign eggs were not disappearing by chance ---and that can only mean the birds were recognizing them, ”Lyon says. Apparently , the coots were alerted by the unfamiliar colors and patterns on the foreign eggs. In other cases, the parents pushed the foreign eggs to an unfavorable position at the border area of the nest, where there is less heat for hatching.Even if a mother coot didn’t remove the foreign eggs from her nest, she continued to lay a normal hatch number of her own eggs, despite theapparent extra foreign eggs. Lyon thinks that means the coots somehow kept a count of both their own eggs an d the suspicious ones. “That coots can distinguish their own eggs from the foreign ones is a rare but very convincing example of counting wild animal world,” the ecologistconcluded.26. Each of the passages is followed by 5 questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the best one and markyour answer on the ANSWER SHEET with a single line through the center.Passage OneAre some people born clever and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. To some extent our intelligence is given us at birth, and no amount of special education can make a genius out of a child born with intelligence. On the other hand, a child who lives in a boring environment will develop his intelligence less than one who lives in rich and varied surroundings. Thus the limits of a person s intelligence are fixed at birth, whether or not he reached those limits will depend on his environment. This view, now held by most experts, can be supported in a number of ways.It is easy to show that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be in intelligence. Thus if we take two unrelated people at random from the population it is likely that their degree of intelligence will be completely different. If, on the other hand, we take two identical twins, they will very likely be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on birth.Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments. We might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the work is boring. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this indicates that environment as well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of intelligence.16. The writer is in favor of the view that man 's intelligence is given to him.A. at birthB. through educationC. both at birth and through educationD. more at birth than through education17. If a child is born with low intelligence he can.A. never become a geniusB. still become a genius if he should be given special educationC. exceed his intelligence limits in rich surroundingsD. not exceed his intelligence limits even in rich surroundings18. In the second paragraph if we take two unrelated people at random from the population-- “ means if we.A. pick any two personsB. take out two different personsC. choose two persons who are relativeD. choose two persons with different intelligence19. The example of the twins going to a university and to a factory separately shows.A. the importance of their intelligenceB. the role of environment on intelligenceC. the importance of their positionD. the part that birth places20. The best title of this passage can be.A. SurroundingsB. IntelligenceC. Dependence on EnvironmentD. Effect of EducationPassage TwoBefore the grass has thickened on the roadside verges and leaves have started growing on the trees it is a perfect time to look around and see just how dirty Britain has become. The pavements are stained with chewing gum that has been spat out and the gutters are full of discarded fast food cartons. Years ago I remember travelling abroad and being saddened by the plastic bags, discarded bottles and soiled nappies at the edge of every road. Nowadays, Britain seems to look at least as bad. What has gone wrong? The problem is that the rubbish created by our increasingly mobile lives lasts a lot longer than before. If it is not cleared up and properly thrown away, it stays in the undergrowth for years; a semi-permanent reminder of what a tatty little country we have now.Firstly, it is estimated that 10 billion plastic bags have been given to shoppers. These will take anything from 100 to 1,000 years to rot. However, it is not as if there is no solution to this. A few years ago, the Irish government introduced a tax on non-recyclable carrier bags and in three months reduced their use by 90%. When he was a minister, Michael Meacher attempted to introduce a similar arrangement in Britain. The plastics industry protested, of course. However, they need not have bothered; the idea was killed before it could draw breath, leaving supermarkets free to give away plastic bags. What is clearly necessary right now is some sort of combined effort, both individual and collective, before it is too late. The alternative is to continue sliding downhill until we have a country that looks like a vast municipal rubbish tip. We may well be at the tipping point. Yet we know that people respond to their environment. If things around them are clean and tidy, people behave cleanly and tidily. If they are surrounded by squalor, they behave squalidly. Now, much of Britain looks pretty squalid. What will it look like in five years?21. The writer says that it is a good time to see Britain before the trees have leaves becauseA. Britain looks perfect.B. you can see Britain at its dirtiest.C. you can see how dirty Britain is now.D. the grass has thickened on the verges.22. According to the writer, things used to be.A. worse abroad.B. the same abroad.C. better abroad.D. worse, but now things are better abroad.23. To solve the problem of plastic bags, Michael MeacherA. followed the Irish example with a tax on plastic bags.B. tried to follow the Irish example with a tax on plastic bags.C. made no attempt to follow the Irish example with a tax on plastic bags.D. had problems with the plastics industry who weren't bothered about the tax.24. As to what can be done, the writer thinksA. it is too late to do anything.B. we are at the tipping point.C. there is more than one way to solve the problem.D. we need to work together to solve the problem.25. The writer thinks thatA. people are squalid.B. people behave according to what they see around them.C. people are clean and tidy.D. people are like a vast municipal rubbish tip.Passage ThreeThe men who planned and constructed the first American railroads were men of great vision. They predicted that their iron horses" would open vast expanses of land to farming and industry. They knew that towns would spring up along the new railroads. Yet few of these pioneers could have guessed that American railroads would establish the system of time used throughout most of the world today.Until the 1880s, all time in the United States was sun time. Farmers set their clocks to noon when the sun appeared to be overhead. In towns, people set their clocks by a courthouse clock or factory whistles. One town 's time was often different from the time in a neighboring town.As the new railroads expanded, large numbers of people began to travel. But the railroads were unable to print accurate timetables when most towns along their tracks have their clocks set differently. There was need for a change, and the railroads led in planning it.In 1883, railroads in the United States and Canada adopted standard time, a system which divided the continent into four time zones. Within each zone, all railroad clocks were set to an identical time. When it was noon in the Eastern Zone, it was nine o’ clock in the Pacific Zone. Railroad time signals were sent out by the newly-invented telegraph.Standard time quickly spread. Traveling businessmen set their watches to correspond to the railroad clocks. Factories and schools followed the railroad ’ s lead. Soon, nearly everyone in the United States and Canada was using the four-zone time system - standard time.Today, nearly all the world keeps standard time according to an international system of twenty-four time zones.26. Towns along the tracks set their clocks differently.B. No one was able to read timetables that were accurate.C. Farmers preferred to read the sun instead of timetables.D. Railroad workers had no watches.30. What does the word identical" mean?A. differentB. difficultC. similarD. understandablePassage FourUntil recently, women in advertisements were one of three things - an apron, a glamorous dress or a frown. Although that is now changing, many women still feel angry enough to deface offending advertisements with stickers protesting. This ad degrades women." Why does this sort of advertising exist? How can advertisers and ad agencies produce, sometimes, after months of research, advertisements that offend the consumer? The advertising Standards Authority (the body which deals with complaint about print media) is carrying out research into how women feel about the way they are portrayed in advertisements. Its conclusions are likely to be what the advertising industry already knows; although women are often irritated by the way they are seen in ads, few feel strongly enough to complain.Women are not only the victims of poor and boring stereotypes - in many TV commercials men are seen neither as useless, childish oafs who are unable to perform the simplest household tasks, or as in considerate boors, permanently on the lookout for an escape to the pub. But it is women who seem to bear the impact of the industry's apparent inability to put people into an authentic present-day context.Yet according to Emma Bennett, executive creative director of a London advertising agency, women are not infuriated by stereotypes and sexist advertising. It tends to wash over them. They are not militant or angry -they just find it annoying or tiresome. They reluctantly accept outdated stereotypes, but heave a sigh of relief when an advertisement really gets it right. She says that it is not advertising's use of the housewife role that bothers women, but the way in which it's handled. Researchers have often asked the wrong questions. The most important thing is the advertisement's tone of voice. Women hate being patronized, flattered or given desperately down-to-earth commonsense advice.〞In the end, the responsibility for good advertising must be shared between the advertiser, the advertising agency and the consumer. Advertising does not set trends but it reflects them. It is up to the consumers to tell advertisers where they fail, and until people on the receiving end take the business seriously and make their feelings known, the process of change will remain laboriously slow.31. Despite recent changes in attitudes, some advertisements still fail to.A. change women's opinions of themselvesB. show any understanding of people's feelingsC. persuade the public to buy certain productsD. meet the needs of the advertising products32. According to the writer, the commonest fault of present-day advertising is to.A. condemn the role of the housewifeB. ignore protests about advertisementC. present a misleading image of womenD. meet the needs of the advertising industry33. Research suggests that the reaction of women towards misrepresentation by advertisements isA. indifferenceB. hostilityC. consentD. unbelief34. Emma Bennett suggests that advertisement ought to.A. give further emphasis on practiceB. use male images instead of female onesC. change their style rather than their contentD. pay more compliments to women than before35. 广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案

广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The 2024 Guangdong University Entrance English Test - A Kid's PerspectiveHey guys! I'm Tommy, a 5th grader who just took the big university entrance English exam in Guangdong this year. My older sister is applying to colleges, so I tagged along to see what all the fuss was about. I've gotta say, that test was no joke! There were reading passages, grammar questions, and even an essay portion. I'm just a kid, but I'll do my best to break it down for you.The Reading SectionThis part had a few different reading passages about topics like science, history, and culture. The passages weren't super long, but they used some pretty big vocabulary words that even I had trouble with. Words like "ubiquitous" and "ephemeral" - what do those even mean?!After each passage, there were comprehension questions testing if you understood the main ideas and important details. Those weren't too bad if you read carefully. But then there were questions about the author's tone, purpose, and which statements from the passage supported certain ideas. Those inferencing questions were tricky!I had to really read between the lines and use my critical thinking skills, just like my English teacher is always reminding us. Overall, the reading section tested if you could understand academic texts at a pretty high level. I give it a solid 7/10 on the difficulty scale. The Grammar GangNext up was the grammar section - my personal nemesis! There were questions testing our knowledge of verb tenses, adjective clauses, parallel structure, and more. As an elementary student, I'm still learning a lot of those grammar rules in my own language, let alone English. Some of the questions asked us to identify the errors in sentences. For example:"The scientist who experiment was a success will present her findings."Can you spot what's wrong there? The verb "experiment" should be "experimenting" to match the subject. Tricky stuff!Other questions tested advanced grammatical concepts like the subjunctive mood (huh?!) and reduced relative clauses. I'm still fuzzy on what those even are! Let's just say the grammar part made my brain hurt. I'll give it a 9/10 difficulty rating for sure. The Unstoppable EssayJust when I thought the test couldn't get any harder, we made it to the essay portion. Could you believe they asked college applicants to write a persuasive essay analyzing a complex social issue? In English?! As if coming up with a thesis statement and supporting arguments isn't hard enough in my native language. The essay prompt was something like: "Many developed nations are experiencing a rise in political polarization and a breakdown of civil discourse. What are the underlying causes of this phenomenon and what steps can societies take to address it?"Come on, how is a 10-year-old kid supposed to intelligently discuss political polarization? That just sounds like some fancy grown-up words put together. I ended up just writing about howpeople should be nicer to each other and find common ground. Hey, it's not great, but I tried! For anyone actually taking this test to get into university, you'd better brush up on your academic writing skills. Being able to clearly express complex ideas in English with proper organization, grammar, and vocabulary is no joke. I'll give the essay a 10/10 on the uh-oh difficulty scale. The Final VerdictOverall, the 2024 Guangdong Graduate Entrance English Test was no walk in the park. It really tested your ability to understand, analyze, and produce English at a high academic level. All those reading comprehension skills, grammar rules, and essay writing techniques they drill into our heads in school? Yeah, those all came into play in a big way.As an elementary student, I may have been in over my head just a little bit. But I gave it my best shot and had fun getting a sneak peek into the life of a university applicant. You older kids out there better study hard because this test is brutal! If you put in the hard work though, you'll build the English skills to slay this exam. Then you'll be off to a great university and maybe even become fluent in English one day. Just don't forgetthe kid who struggled through a preview of the big test. Leave some snacks for me when you make it big, okay? That's all I've got, folks! This has been Tommy's 2024 Guangdong Graduate Entr ance English Test Exposé. Check your admissions booklets for the real answer keys because this kid is still a few years away from being able to solve those zingers. English tests are hard, but hopefully this gave you a kid's-eye view into what it's all about. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some grammar drills to review...篇2The 2024 Guangdong Entrance Exam for English ThingyHi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader. This year I had to take the Guangdong Entrance Exam for English Proficiency Test. That's a really long name so I'm just going to call it the English Thingy. The English Thingy was really hard! I had to study a whole bunch to get ready for it. My teacher Miss Li made us practice listening, reading, writing and speaking in English every day for months before the test. I don't really like English that much but I worked really hard because I want to go to a good middle school. On the day of the test, I was super nervous. My mom made me a special breakfast with my favorite congee and pickled radishes to help me feel better. I double and triple checked that I had enough pencils and erasers in my pencil case. I almost forgot my water bottle but my dad reminded me at the last second. Phew! The test had four sections just like Miss Li said - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I'll tell you all about each one.ListeningThe listening part was first. We had to put on these huge headphones that made my ears sweat. The recording played different conversations and passages and we had to bubble in the correct answers on a answer sheet. Some of the conversations were pretty easy, like this one:Woman: Excuse me, where is the bathroom?Man: Go down this hallway and turn right. The bathroom is the second door on your left.Woman: Thank you.The question asked where the bathroom was located. I bubbled in "second door on the left" for that one.But others were super hard and confusing. Like this one about the weather:Meteorologist: A strong cold front is approaching the region from the northwest, bringing freezing temperatures and snowfall tonight through Tuesday morning. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving conditions and power outages. Stay indoors if possible and avoid any unnecessary travel.I got super lost with all the meteorologist words like "front" and "hazardous." I probably got that one wrong.ReadingAfter listening, we moved on to the reading section. This part had longer passages that we had to read and then answer comprehension questions about them. One passage was about the history of the bicycle. That one was kind of boring but the questions were pretty easy if you read it carefully. Like "When was the first bicycle invented?" and "What were early bicycles made of?"Another reading was way more interesting - it was a story about a girl who accidentally got shrunken down to the size of an insect! She had all these adventures in her own backyard, getting chased by spiders and helping her ant friends carry crumbs. Atthe end she figured out the cure to turn back to normal size. I loved that story and the questions about it were fun.WritingThen it was time for the writing part. We had to write a short essay in English of at least 150 words. The prompt asked us to write about an experience that taught us an important lesson.I wrote about the time I overslept and missed the school bus because I was up too late playing video games the night before. I learned my lesson about time management and making sure to get enough sleep. Miss Li was always telling us to "eat AT the desk, not ON the desk" which means don't play games late at night and sleep in class! So I wrote all about that. Some kids wrote about learning lessons like being kind to others, working hard, or telling the truth. As long as you had a clear lesson and examples, you could get a good score.SpeakingFinally, the very last part was the speaking section. One at a time, we had to go into a private room with a examiner and answer some questions out loud in English. The first part was easy, they just asked stuff like "What's your name?", "How old are you?", and "What's your favorite subject in school?" Piece of cake. Then they asked me to look at a picture of a playground and describe what I saw in the picture, like the slide, swing set, trees, etc. That wasn't too bad.But the hardest part was when they gave me a situation and I had to pretend to have a conversation. My situation was that I was purchasing movie tickets and I had to ask for things like how much they cost, what time the movie started, if there were any discounts, and so on. I got pretty tongue-tied and messed up a few times. The examiner didn't seem too impressed!Whew, that's everything that was on the big English Thingy test! My brain was fried by the end of it. I really hoped I did well since I want to make it into a good middle school program. A couple weeks later I got my scores back - I passed! My writing and reading were pretty good but I struggled more on the listening and speaking parts.Oh well, I'll just have to keep studying and practicing my English skills. Maybe next year's test will be a little easier!篇3广东2024学位英语考试真题及答案第一部分:听力测试(20分)听录音,选出正确的单词。

Each of the passages is followed by 5 questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the best one and mark your answer on the ANSWER SHEET. Passage OneScientists said they have found evidence of a giant planet far out in our solar system. In a statement, the California Institute of Technology—Caltech—said this planet travels a very strange “long and thin orbit in the distant solar system.” The discovery was made by two researchers at Caltech: Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown. They used mathematical modeling and computer simulations(模拟) to find the planet. So far, there have not been any direct observations of the planet.“My jaw hit the floor,” said astronomer(宇航员) Mike Brown, the moment he realized there might be a ninth planet. The scientists said it would take this planet 10,000 to 20,000 years just to make one full orbit around the sun. The new planet, call ed “Planet Nine”, has a mass about 10 times the size of Earth. If they are right, the newly found planet would be the ninth planet in our solar system. Pluto(冥王星) had been called the ninth planet until 2006, when it was renamed a “dwarf planet.”Actual confirmation of a ninth planet would be very big news. “This would be a real ninth planet,” Brown said in thestatement. “There have only been two true planets discovered since ancient times, and this would be a third. It's a pretty substantial chunk of our solar system that's still out there to be found, which is pretty exciting.”While they did not get a picture of “Planet Nine” yet, the scientists say they are using the biggest—and best—telescopes on Earth to try to find “Planet Nine.” They are also working on improving their computer simulations. They want to find out more about “Planet Nine’s” orbit, and its impact on the outer part of our solar system.16. The newly-found planet ________.A. moves around the SunB. was discovered by two astronomersC. travels a round orbitD. is far away from our solar system17. The possibility of finding a ninth planet made Mike Brown ________.A. confusedB. frightenedC. satisfiedD. surprised18. According to the scientists, ________A. the planet is ten times larger than the EarthB. it takes the planet less than 10,000 years to make a full orbitC. Pluto was once thought to be the ninth planet in the solar systemD. Pluto was given a new name after it was discovered in 200619. It can be inferred from Paragraph 4 that ________.A. there is no actual confirmation about the ninth planetB. no true planets were discovered in ancient timesC. scientists have found three planets in modern timesD. the ninth planet is the only one discovered since ancient times20. To find “Planet Nine”, scientists are using all the following EXCEPT ________.A. mathematical modelingB. computer simulationsC. advanced telescopesD. large spacecrafts Passage Two“Helicopter parenting” describes a style of raising children where parents are over-protective and do too much. The term was used for the first time in the late 1960s. It describes parents who hover(悬停) over their kids like a helicopter. Today, modern technology allows these helicopterparents to hover from even far away. They can give their children directions at any moment from anywhere.Author Julie Lythcott-Haims wrote a book titled How to Raise an Adull. In her book, she gives readers a closer look at this parenting style.“Over-parenting”, she says, “comes in three types: the first is the over-protective parents who think the world is scary and unsafe and unpredictable. And therefore, I must protect and prevent. The second type is the over-directive type—the parent who says, I know best what leads to success and you will do as I say. You’ll study these topics, do these activies and you will be highly achieving at all of it. The third type is the concierge(看门人)—the parent who just wants to make life smoother—from waking their kid up, to keeping track of their deadlines, to making sure they haven't forgotten anything, to even doing the homework for the kid.”Julie Lythcott-Haims says she experienced the effects of helicopter parenting firsthand when she worked as dean offirst-year students at Stanford University. The incoming students were very smart and accomplished on paper. But many were unable to take care of themselves.“They were turning to parents constantly for guidance, for problem solving, to have them make the choice aboutsomething.” Often time s, Lythcott-Haims had to remind thoseparents that their kids were old enough to take care ofthemselves.21. The term “helicopter parenting” ________.A. describes parents who give children directions in the airB. was probably invented in the late nineteenth centuryC. gains more meaning as modern technology developsD. refers to parents who concern too much about kids22. According to Lythcott-Haims, over-parenting has all the following features EXCEPT ________.A. over-directiveB. over-dependentC. over-preventiveD. over-protective23. It can be inferred that a concierge mother will ________.A. regard the world as very dangerousB. allow children to do whatever they likeC. keep a close eye on the kid’s assignmentD. let the kid alone when he falls on the ground24. In Julie’s eyes, the first-year students at Stanford University are ________.A. very clever in studyingB. really good at problem-solvingC. unable to communicate with teachersD. having problems making friends25. Lythcott-Haims’ attitude towards helicopter parenting is________.A. supportiveB. negativeC. uninterestedD. unclearPassage ThreeI recently had the opportunity to go to my first ever music festival. We Love Green was held over a weekend in Parc de Bagatelle, Paris. While like most music festivals, it boasted an impressive and diverse music, there was something extra special about this one. You see, this was a green festival! From the food to the stalls(货摊), everything was as environmentally friendly as possible. Not only was the majority of the furniture/stalls/toilet rooms hand-made from wood, the festival was powered by solar energy. Guests were invited to dispose of rubbish in specially labeled dustbins which, afterthe festival, were sorted so all of the waste could be recycled appropriately. Fresh water was made available freely toeveryone so that attendants were not encouraged to buy drinksin plastic bottles which would have created a lot of waste.I found the experience incredibly fun but also really interesting. Having never been to a music festival before, Iwas unsure of what to expect. However, I was happy to findmyself sitting in a field eating a healthy, home-made fruitcake while drinking organic fruit juice. There were many stalls, art installations, and different areas, meaning there was something there for everyone, from small children to theelderly! This seems like such a great idea, making something veryfun and interesting, that does not cause great damage to the environment. I have since discovered that there are more events similar to this ac ross the globe, which is great! I can’t imagine how much waste has been produced from such publicevents as festivals across the years before we realised justhow bad they were for the environment!26. The eighth-grader got his inspiration on a recent morning, when his mother was driving him to school. Their car was damaged as it went over a huge pothole in the middle of the street in their hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. “I decided I was going to do something about the pothole problem in my city,” said Chokwe. His solution: an app that warns drivers when there is a pothole ahead.Chokwe developed the app with his friends, “When the app detects a pothole, it is highlighted in red,” Chokwe says. “And if you get close to the pothole, your phone will warn you with a beep.” Drivers can also use the app to report any potholes they encounter, and to look for other routes they can take to avoid roads that have them. The app relies on current available information about the streets of Jackson. “It works by using the city’s 311 call system, so it uses information already stored in a database,”Chokwe says. Through the call system, citizens dial 311 to report non-emergency problems—which include potholes. As Chokwe and his friends worked on the app, they also went street by street throughout the city. They determined that focusing onthe 10 busiest streets in Jackson would give them a large enough sample size to test it.Although the app isn’t yet available for sale, Chokwe is already looking for ways to improve it. The app remains limited to 10 streets in Jackson, but he hopes to add more, so that it includes every street in the city. And then he wants to go even farther. “I want to keep working on the app until it’s nationwide,” Chokwe says.31. Chokwe Selassie got the idea to develop the app from________.A. his own experienceB. a recent news reportC. his friendsD. his mother32. To develop the app, Chokwe and his friends ________.A. reported potholes to 311 call systemB. conducted field trips on the streetsC. built their own information databaseD. collected samples in their neighborhood35.
