2022考研英语作文范文1 考研英语作文范文10篇背诵带翻译(优秀13篇)考研英语优秀作文篇一I see two kinds of pressure working on college students today: economic pressure, parental pressure. It is easy to look around for rebels-- to blame the colleges for charging too much money, the parents for pushing their children too far. But there are no rebels, only victims. The pressure is heavy on students who just want to graduate and get a job. If I were an employer I would rather employ graduates who have this range and curiosity than those who narrowly pursued safe subjects and high grades. I know incalculable students whose inquiring minds cheer me. I like to hear the play of their ideas. I don't know if they are getting A or C, and I don't care. I also like them as people. The country needs them, and they will find satisfying jobs. I tell them to relax. They can't.Nor can I blame them. They live in a brutal it is not unusual for a student, even if he works part time at college and full time during the summer, to increase to 5, 000 in loans after graduation. Encouraged at mencemerit to go forth into the world, he is already behind as he goes forth. How could he not feel under pressure throughout college to prepare for this day of reckoning?Along with economic pressure goes parental pressure.Inevitably, the two are deeply integrated.Poor students! They are caught in one of the oldest webs of love and duty and guilt. The parents mean well: they are trying to steer their sons and daughters toward a secure future. But the sons and daughters want to major in history or classics or philosophy--subjects with no practical value.Where's the payoff on the humanities? It's not easy to persuade such loving parents that the humanities do indeed pay off. The intellectual faculties developed by studying subjects like history and classics are just the faculties that make creative leaders in business or almost any general field.Luckily for me, most of them got into their field by an indirect route, to their surprise, after many roundabout ways. The students are startled. They can hardly conceive of a career that was not preplanned. They can hardly imagine allowing the hand of God or chance to nudge them down some unforeseen trail.考研英语话题作文篇二January 壹五, 2011Our English Club has attracted more than 2000 students since it was established in 2000. 新历年考研英语作文范文(推荐十六篇)

历年考研英语作文范文(推荐十六篇)5历年考研英语作文范文(篇一)Upon graduation, virtually all college students will confront the problem of the career choice, which is truly a tough choice. Students opinions differ greatly on this issue. Some hold that priority should be given to take a job, but others take the attitude that going to a graduate school is the most critical factor influencing their future career choices. As to myself, I prefer the latter view. A higher educational background exerts a tremendous fascination on a great number of people, with no exception to me. This phenomenon that the graduates have difficulties in finding job after their graduation can easily be found anywhere in our daily life, especially on campus. On the one hand, with the improved high education of Chinese college students which directly brought the result that there are more and more graduates every year. On the contrary, job vacancies don’t increase that fast. More people, less food, which is the exact description of the hard condition. On the other hand, more and more people go on to pursue their master and doctor degree; more and more Chinese oversea students come back to China to hunt better working chances. It is sure that the competition is more and more fierce. Therefore, it is high time that we took effective measures to improve our own competitiveness. That is the secret of success in the future employment market after our graduation.历年考研英语作文范文(篇二)Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring them good luck. For instance, the so-called lucky number “8” is widely used now because it is sounded like “getting rich” in Chinese and is believed to bring good fortune.Yet many others don’t think so. They think that numbers have nothing to do with luck. They regard numbers simply as a mathematic symbols for counting. They are anything but a mystery. They laugh at those who think numbers can bring good luck.I’m in favor of the latter opinion. I think our society is very modern now. We mustn’t count on the so-called lucky numbers tofulfill our wishes. Whether we can have good luck depends on ourselves. If we work hard, good luck will come to us.Deep Reading in Modern LifeAt the picture depicts, a father told his son that he should read deeply rather than merely pursue the quantity of reading materials. It reflects that people tend to browse and scan e-books without stopping to ponder even one question. The way we read is so superficial that it arouses great concern in modern life.To be a better reader, we had better do as follows. For one thing, take notes about crucial details as we used to do. Taking notes can avoid the phenomenon that the more we read online or on smart phones, the less we seemed to memorize. For another, classics deserve to be savored by the contemporary people. For example, some classical novels can be read free on Kindle, which makes them popular among youngsters again. Whats more, if we did not make summaries from time to time, nothing that we learnt from e-books would truly be ours.In conclusion, when we enjoy digital reading, we should consciously conducts deep reading. Try our best to keep those good habits which are acquired in the process of paper reading, such as intensive reading and deep thinking.历年考研英语作文范文(篇四)It seems that everyone in the world aspires to achieve something so as to live life to the fullest. There are vast majority of tasks that we have to finish in order to succeed, so making plans is the only way that we could possibly achieve our goals. Thus, it is of great importance that doing some planning before we start. The time when one is working or studying is the most valuable, so ow to effectively utilize it decides whether we could achieve our academic pursuit or career advancement. Take preparing final e_am for e_ample, after a long period of study, physical and metal fatigue would unavoidably ensue. However, if we could set out a timetable and stick with the plan, then we could accomplish more things than we thought because we have a time limit on each part, which brings a pressure to us and pushes us to absorb knowledge or do e_ercises more quickly. Not only preparing e_ams but also other tasks, making plans could motivate us to be more effective. In conclusion, working out a plan is the best way for us to utilize our restricted energy and time.书信:毕业时就业还是上研究生Part I WritingDirections: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a letter in reply to a friends inquiry about Plan after graduation. 考研英语作文(精选10篇)考研英语作文篇1These two drawings, apparently, can be associated with two distinct habits. In the left one, there is a girl beside a desk, being absorbed in learning, with an idea in her mind —it is advisable to complete as early as possible. By contrast, in the right picture, a young guy sits leisurely in a sofa, telling himself, “I need not act until the deadline.”Finally, two Chinese characters can be noticed, which say “habit”.Successful figures are usually characterized by their diverse merits, including diligence, perseverance and striving every day. However, in reality, a host of youngsters are accustomed to taking no action until the last day. This terrible habit is particularly worth concerning and as a matter of fact, their laziness has constituted an obstacle that hinders their personal growth and progress. To my understanding, we are supposed to accomplish our assignments on time each day. This good habit can be likened to a journey, leading to success and a promising future. A case in point is myself. During the past year, as a senior who has been preparing for the national entrance examination for postgraduates, I have never postponed one day’s task until the next day. This excellent habit ensures my motivation for learning, brings me power and helps me accumulate knowledge every day.To conclude, never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Meanwhile, every one should bear in mind that a positive habit means a lifelong treasure.考研英语作文篇2The above two pictures have shaped sharp contrast to each other. In one picture, a flower grows in a greenhouse and is in full bloom in spite of the outside rain. But in the other, the flower, moved outside and without the protection of the greenhouse, is withering in the thunderstorm. The two pictures show us that the flower, which is raised in a greenhouse and carefully protected, cannot stand natural wind and rain at all.It is most likely that the drawer means to compare children in our country to the flower in his drawings and reflect a problem in the present education of our children. For one thing, nowadays, most children are brought up by their parents with tender care. Parents always try their best to meet the children’s demands, to provide them with the best environment of growth and study and to protect them from any possible harms, setbacks and sufferings. For another, owing to the present examination’oriented education system, most children are too heavily burdened with studies to have time to take part in social activities, so they learn little about the society, the real world outside their family and school. Growing up in such a manner and such an environment, the children will inevitably and naturally lack the ability to stand sufferings and overcome obstacles when they leave their parents and step into the society. To sum up, the problem of children’s education must be solved timely and effectively because it is they that constitute the future of our country.考研英语作文篇3This picture shows a drastic change in the world’s commercial fishing. The two parts display totally different scenes in 1900 and 1995. In 1900, there were a large number of fish while only one boat was fishing on the ocean. But in 1995 fishing boats increased sharply while only one fish was left. The fish supplies have almost been exhausted by overfishing.Judging from the picture, we can see that within about 100 years, humans have stripped the sea of her generous offerings. If we dont put an end to the trend, then the fish in the ocean could become extinct species in the foreseeable future. Therefore, it is high time we took effective measures to solve this problem. First, we must bring world population under a reasonable control, as overfishing is largely due to the need to fill the additional mouths. Second, every year in the fishs mating season, a "grace period" should be enforced during which the fish are allowed to reproduce themselves. Third, strict laws should be implemented. Last but not least, we should enhance the awareness of the public that the ocean resources are very vital to us. Only when these above mentioned measures are put into practice can we save the fish from disappearing completely.考研英语作文篇4From the picture above,we can see a spical "hotpot",which contains many unique ingredients, stand for "LAO SHE","KONG FU","Decompostion" and some things to that effect. At the bottom of the picture,a sentence standsthere extremely prominent, which can be brielf interpreted by this way:culture "hotpot" is not only good tasting but also strongly good for one`s health. A bit exggerating picture is,however, through careful observation,we may discover that behind this strange senario, what the cartoonist intends to show us is extremely obvious:the significance of integration between Chinese culture and other countries` culture. With the implementation of the China`s reform and opening up,an emerging tendency is that more and more foriegners are getting fascinated with our Chinese culture. They come to China to learn Chinese language, taste delicious Chinese foods, make friends with Chinese people, and etc.All these make them pretty comfortable and agreeable. At the same time, however, this phenomenon also stirred a heated dated in our society,so,how to render the other countries` culture be more compatible with our Chinese culture has caused wide public concern. As far as I am concerned, before giving my opinion I think we should take closely look at the culture`s function widely.Policymakers should be more aware of that culture integration not only benefits to our making a further development but exerts a great contribution to the world peace.考研英语作文篇5This bar chart indicates different market shares of automobiles of three types of brand affiliations between 2008 and 2009.In 2008,cars with Japanese brands topped the three types of vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total market. What follows is the cars withChinese brands, hitting 25% of the auto market, with the share of American brand bottomed out at 15%. In 2009,some developments are noticeable in that the cars with the largest share became those of Chinese brands, which occupied roughly 32% of the market, while cars with Japanese and American brands took 25% and 15% of the whole market respectively. It is observed that between 2008 and 2009,cars of Chinese and Japanese brands took turns to be the No.1 in terms of market share while those with American brands ranked the last in both years. And the share of Chinese-brand cars witnessed a mild increase and that of the Japanese-brand cars saw a moderate decrease, while the American-brand cars stayed the same. From this graph,we can come to the safe conclusion that the Chinese automakers are doing a good job in outcompeting their Japanese and American counterparts in 2009,but the gap is not so significant and if no efforts were made from the part of the Chinese auto industry, the distribution map might be rewritten in the future.考研英语作文篇6This bar chart indicates different market shares of automobiles of three types of brand affiliations between 2008 and 2009.In 2008,cars with Japanese brands topped the three types of vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total market. In the first picture, the mother takes the daughter by the hand, while after thirty years the daughter hold her mother’s hand which is depicted in the second picture. The meaning conveyed in the two pictures reveals that to respect the old and love the young is the traditional virtue and should be passed on from one generation to another. In real life, our parents not only give us life but do much in bringing us up. As the time goes on, they grow so physically weak that they no longer have the power to support themselves. So it is human nature for us to take our responsibility of taking care of them when they are old. Meanwhile, the virtue of willing to support the graying parents should be educated among Chinese people, no matter how young they are. It is necessary to drill the idea to the young all the time, so that they can better respect the older in future. With love for the young, our society will be full of sunshine; with respect for the old, our country will be harmony and prosperous.考研英语作文篇8For over a decade, the craze of Chinese college graduates taking qualifying examinations to become civil servants has remained unabated. An important proportion of graduates view civil service as their top priority in job selection and they spare no efforts in preparing for those examinations, sometimes years before their graduation. To some extent, this craze is a modern revival of the ancient notion that “those who excel in academics end up in officialdom.” In the present-day China, however, there are complicated reasons underlying this phenomenon. The jobs in sectors other than civil service are insecure and unstable, and employees have to work under greater stress faced with growing competitions in the workplace and the industry. Some government departments are related to monopolized industries and civil servants can enjoy unusually high salaries and welfare benefits. Finally, government officials are usually regarded as occupying the highest rung of the social hierarchy and a student who succeeds in becoming government official isconsidered the pride of the family, adding prestige and glory to the entire clan. For all the apparent attractions of the officialdom, the craze of entering the civil service is a distorted one. In the United States, truly ambitious students enter the industry instead of civil departments, where they apply their individual initiative to achieve personal success. It has already been pointed out that, with so many best minds of the nation fighting their way into the civil sectors, the consequences are catastrophic. The civil servants system, with its inherent bureaucracy and rigid rules, would inevitably turn the otherwise energetic and aggressive young people into docile followers of their superiors’instructions and dutiful but mediocre implementers of executive orders. This will considerably undermine the vitality of a whole generation and the competitiveness of the entire country in the international arena. All forms of craze are accompanied by elements of irrationality and abnormality and, the sooner this craze vanishes, the better.考研英语作文篇9This pie chart clearly illustrates the purposes of students’ touring in a certain university. As is reflected by the diagram, 37 percent of college students travel in a bid to appreciating the scenery, next comes the aim of relieving pressure, accounting for 33% percent. By contrast, the percentage of students travelling aiming at others, making friends and cultivating independence account for 15%, 9% and 6% respectively.Several primary factors could contribute to this phenomenon. In the first place, travel can offer us a wide range of experiences. In travelling, we may join tourists marveling at the incredible power of Niagara Falls, mingle with the happy throngs strolling in the Paris boulevards and experience the bitterness and joy of people on different lands and in different times. In the second place, college students, who have to juggle academic work, romantic relationships and a busy social calendar, are particularly susceptible to pressure. By touring, they can successfully manage and reduce stress.Taking all these factors into consideration, we may predict that with the quickening pace of campus life and ever-increasing pressure, the number of university students touring will keep growing in the forthcoming decade.考研英语作文篇10This cartoon depicts an ironic scene: a man is walking dangerously on a wire with a pole in his hand. On one end of the pole hangs a box which is named "the convenience of jobs" while on the other end hangs a box which is labelled"illegal profits". The man is trying hard to reach the end of the wire, where a piece of papar is attached which says "you should be responsible for what you have done. " However, the man believes that he will not be blamed since he has taken just a little. The sobering aspect of this cartoon is corruption always happens on those who think they are the lucky ones.Human nature being what it is, most people have a kind of fluke mind that they may not be punished since the amount they take illegally is small. However, this idea could not be more wrong in our contemporary society. Lets assume that all the government officials in China hold this idea. If this assumption comes true, it will definitely exert a butterfly effect: the appetite of these officials will become even bigger. The amount of money they take may end up as astronomical figures. One day their behavior will be revealed as severe crime and they will spend the rest of their lives in jail.So it can be justified without any exaggeration that when we look at the consequences of curruption, we may find it very difficult to assess the costs. But these costs can be very considerable and may even hurl the whole society system into a chaos. It occurs to many that the most effective solution is to appeal to the authorities, or to take legal means. But that is just a passive wayand only works on extreme cases. Therefore, I recommend that massive media, school education and family cultivation should be activated to call for self-discipline on this matter.。

The former exaggerates the goal and minimizes himself in his mind while the latter thinks otherwise. Actually, both the goal and the keeper are just in normal size. What causes the problem is that they have overestimated the difficulty they are each faced with. Such attitude towards difficulty will surely produce negative effects on the results.Difficulties are in the pathway of everyone. To overcome them, we must at first make correct judgment on the situation, which is based on confidence, courage and rational thinking. Lets take memory for example. In the process of learning, students need to remember a lot of things, such as Chemical Elements Periodic Table, ancient articles and mathematical formulae. But many complain that it is hard to remember them accurately and they are ready to give up when they feel so. On the contrary, those who learn successfully are confident about themselves and willing to try although they also feel difficult at first. And later they find the more they practise the memory, the easier it becomes to remember. In conclusion, if we are to succeed in handling the difficult things, we must have self confidence, judge the situation rationally and be courageous enough to keep trying.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇3)The picture presents a touching sight to us. They have surpassed their own physical deficiency and explored a smoother and easier way of advancing by drawing strength and supportfromeach other. Obviously, what is highlighted in the picture is cooperation. In modern times, cooperation has become an efficient and effective way to solve many problems. To begin with, through cooperation, we can heighten our strength so as to accomplish the things that are impossible to be done only by one person. We all have our own limitations and with the fast development of science and technology, we are facing a world that is more and more sophisticated. Therefore, we often need to combine others’ abilities and resources to gain success. What’s more, cooperation is not the simple addition but fusion of all partners’ strength. Making use of different members’ strong points, offsetting the weaknesses, supporting mutually and sharing resources with each other, we can then attain to a capacity that is much stronger than the sum of all partners.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇4)The picture presents a touching sight to us. With love for the young, our society will be full of sunshine; with respect for the old, our country will be harmony and prosperous.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇7)Hello,everyone!My family have three member.mother, father and me.Im Chinese and Im twelve years old.My name is Alan.I like play basketballs and I like play computer game.Because I think theyre very exciting and interesting. My father is Chinese, too and he is forty-one years old.He name is Bob.He only likes play computer game.Oh,dear me,Im very bore(烦).He only plays it.But he thinks theyre very funny, interesting. My mother is Chinese, too and she is thirty-eight years old.She name is Linda. She likes shoping. She likes it very much.I usually with she goes to shoping. This is my family.I like it very much.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇8)In recent years, drought has prevailed in northern parts of our country. There is no or only little rain in spring and summer in the noth and northeast of China. The same is true of snow in winter.Consequently, big cities such as Beijing and Tianjin are short of water every year, which affects the life of the urban people and the production of factories. And the drought is most felt by crops in rural areas, of course. It is said the drought has much to do with the "green house effect" and the "greenhouse effect" is caused by the pollution of the atmosphere. In the final analysis, it is brought about by ourselves.Faced with the terrible drought, we should stop polluting the air right away. We should try all means to decrease the amount of poisonous gases which our factories and cars give off. Besides, we should take measures to protect the forests and plant as many trees as possible.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇9)At first sight of the picture, my eyes are brightened by the pretty girl, beaming with a simile on her face. She is a typical American girl, but she is dresses in our traditional Chinese costume. It seems that the girl is very proud of the Chinese costume. It goes without saying that the picture indicates that a culture of one nation may become international, which is beneficial to all human beings. Actually the girl stands for two different cultures-western and eastern cultures. Her charming smile is the essential touch of the whole picture, which symbolizes the harmonious blending of the two cultures. With economic globalization, the blending of different cultures has become a necessary trend of the times. On one hand, a large number of people from different countries have been pouring into China. On the other hand, Chinese people are also exposed to different foreign cultures when theygo abroad or when more foreign people come to China. In this way, people from various nations in the world will be able to acquire better understanding of each other. As far as I am concerned, I think this phenomenon is good to all of us. It is an effective way to achieve efficient cross-cultural communication and promote world peace and prosperity.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇10)The above two pictures have shaped sharp contrast to each other. Growing up in such a manner and such an environment, the children willinevitably and naturally lack the ability to stand sufferings and overcome obstacles when they leave their parents and step into the society. To sum up, the problem of children’s education must be solved timely and effectively because it is they that constitute the future of our country.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇11)This bar chart indicates different market shares of automobiles of three types of brand affiliations between 2008 and 2009.In 2008,cars with Japanese brands topped the three types of vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total market. What follows is the cars with Chinese brands, hitting 25% of the auto market, with the share of American brand bottomed out at 15%. From this graph,we can come to the safe conclusion that the Chinese automakers are doing a good job in outcompeting their Japanese andAmerican counterparts in 2009,but the gap is not so significant and if no efforts were made from the part of the Chinese auto industry, the distribution map might be rewritten in the future.2023年考研英语作文(精选篇12)The above two pictures have shaped sharp contrast to each other. Should Traditional Chinese Etiquette Be Taught in Class? (424字)Throughout most of China’s long history, the relationships between people were based on carefully prescribed forms of behavior, that is, etiquette. Learning and following etiquette is so important that people are always judged by how closely they follow these rules of behaviors. For those who do not follow those prescribed rules of conduct, they are regarded as uncivilized barbarians. However, as China has been increasingly entangled in the global village, many Chinese people, especially the young, have lost some traditions because of the influences of Western cultures. According to a famous professor, the majority of Chinese college students have not had systematic training on traditional Chinese etiquette. As for me, traditional etiquette should be taught in class.Firstly, if college students can receive a systematic education in traditional etiquette in class, they can get more prepared for the future. As is known, college students usually have learnt some traditional etiquette through daily interaction with friends and relatives, but the process is time-consuming. They have to be sensitive enough to observe other people’s behaviors and then know what proper behaviors in different social situations are. Sometimes the learning process is by trial and error. They can only form right behaviors after breaking the rules of conduct and being corrected by the costly consequence. If they have already taken a systematic etiquette course in college, they can follow proper etiquette and have a more guaranteed future.Secondly, as these meticulous rules of conduct have been formed throughout Chinese history, they are unique Chinese characteristics and are inseparable to Chinese culture. With the advent of globalization, western culture is so influential that many young people often look to Western customs and etiquette as being fashionable. For example, nowadays most young women in China would like to wear western-style white dresses and veils at wedding while traditional Chinese weddings feature red gowns for brides and white is an absolute taboo. In the long term, if the trend to adopt western etiquette can not be curbed, the Chinese generations in the future will lose their cultural identity.Furthermore, the extinction of Chinese etiquette will be to the detriment of the diversity of global culture. To some extent, the course can serve to arouse college students’ cultural pride and help to preserve and further develop Chinese culture. In conclusion, taking traditional Chinese etiquette in college will not only make graduates more prepared for their future, but also can constitute an important measure for college students to form Chinese cultural identity and therefore to preserve Chinese tradition and further develop it.2. Are Nowadays College Graduates Not as Competent as Before?(418字)As an economic rule goes, when supply outweighs demand, the price decreases. The same seems true for the current situation for college graduates. Since 1999, the central government has implemented the Grand College Enrollment Plan, with the total number of college graduates on the increase in the following years. But the boomed economy does not provide enough jobs for those graduates coming out at a time. Therefore, many people reason that college graduates are not as competent as before for many of them have difficulties in finding jobs. But I disagree with this conclusion.Firstly, admittedly, there are some college graduates who are not competent, but these students can not represent all the students. Due to the Grand College Enrollment Plan, more and more high school students have access to the higher education. Inevitably, the standard has been lowered; otherwise, university can not admit so many applicants. While those smart students in high schools are more likely to have excellent performance, other not-so-good students would have difficulties in college learning. As a result, those graduates with bad performance in college can not demonstrate the value of higher learning to the society and hence they gradually form the incompetent image of college graduates.Secondly, those who hold this negative opinion do not take the social context into consideration. As is known, in the period when China carried out planned economic policies, college graduates did not need to worry about their jobs, for “iron-bowls” waited for them after graduation. But after the reform of higher education, college graduates have to find jobs for themselves. When hundreds of thousands of graduatescompete for a limited number of job vacancies, there are inevitably many who can not procure ideal jobs. Besides, employment is always influenced by global and national economy. When economy slows down, the corporate world would not recruit as many employees as before. For example, in 2009, many college graduates, from both prestigious universities and less-known universities, have difficulties in hunting jobs. In this sense, it is not college graduates that are incompetent; instead, it is the social context that is unfavorable to college graduates. As factors combine to lead to a result, one can not simply reach conclusions without taking various factors into account. Otherwise, one would make reductionist mistakes. In this case, those who think college students are not as competent as before have made this kind of mistake. They just attribute college graduates’ difficulties in finding jobs to their incompetence, without exploring the social and economic situations.3. Is It Meaningful to Receive College Education? (425字)Given the fact that many college students have difficulties in finding jobs in the recent, thousands of high school students are reported to refuse to take the National College Entrance Examination. The news seems so convincing that many students, their parents, and the society reach the conclusion that receiving college education is a waste of time and money. Undoubtedly, these students can earn some money working in big cities or running their own business in the near future. However, I am of opinion that this view is myopic, which is to the detriment of personal development and China’s overall growth in the long term.Firstly, in terms of personal development, university is not a vocational training center despite the fact that a university diploma indicates graduates are more likely to find decent jobs. Instead, university is a place for personal cultivation and improvement. In universities, students will learn to find their real interests, perfect their personality, and form right outlooks toward the world. Furthermore, students will learn to gather, analyze, and evaluate information so that they can resolve problems in their lives. For those who are suspicious of the value of higher learning, to some extent, they can be regarded as plutolatry. They worship money and believe that money is everything in their lives.Secondly, in terms of national growth, the advancement of a nation is characterized by its greatness of high education. In this sense, universities are the centers of research and academic exploration. Take the United States for instance. Among the top 100 universities in the world, the majority of them are located in the United States. The advancement of US high education is indicative of the fact that those universities produce the most Nobel Prize laureates in comparison with other countries. American universities also turn out to be a magnet for most smart students around the world. Those universities contribute tremendous share to the US’ g rowth through scientific and technological support. In China, if the belief that receiving college education is a waste of time and money can not be corrected in time, it is inevitable that China can only reap short-term GDP growth but will be deprived of opportunity to become a competitive international players in the long run, for the human resource will be drained eventually. In sum, receiving college education will benefit both individual and the country. Indicative of the dire job market for college graduates is not the uselessness of college education. Instead, college education means we should study harder to make a full preparation for the future.4. Can College Village Heads Plan Really Help? (453字)Due to the Grand College Enrollment Plan, the number of university graduates has been on the increase since the central government started implementing the plan. Though the plan helps improve our national quality, it creates pressure for the job markets. With so many college students coming out at a time, many graduates have difficulties in finding suitable jobs. In order to create more jobs, the government encourages college graduates to work in villages of 28 provinces and regions with a view that rural administration will be strengthened at the same time. As a result, tens of thousands college graduates have been appointed as villageofficials in the rural areas. It appears that this plan helps alleviate the pressure caused by graduate employment, but I do not think the plan will work in the long run.Firstly, after serving as village officials in the rural areas for two years, the majority of those college village officials will start to look for jobs in the job market again, aggravating the pressure of the job market. Some may argue that the number of those village officials who enter the job market again is balanced by the number of new college graduates who would be appointed as village officials. The truth is that while those students have spent two years in the rural areas, they do not gain enough experience in the corporate world and are likely to forget what they have learnt in college. In this sense, they are not guaranteed to find decent jobs again. Besides, when working in the rural areas, these students with higher degrees are respected by village people, and are likely to get accustomed to feeling superior to people around them. One can imagine they would probably be frustrated when they work with those who hold the same college degrees or even higher degrees.Secondly, when the supply of college graduates and the demand of our society are unbalanced, the imbalance can be obtained by increasing available jobs or decreasing the supply of college graduates, which means the reduction of college enrollment. Given the fact that the economy slows down in the recent, it is difficult to create more jobs. While offering good terms for graduates such as well-paid salary and residential certificate guarantee, the government can create more jobs in the short term, but does not provide long-term remedy. In this sense, the plan does not solve the fundamental imbalance between the supply and the demand of college graduates. In sum, the plan to encourage college graduates to work in the rural areas can only provide a temporary remedy for the job market. I think the government should recognize the fundamental imbalance and find the way back to elite education.5. Should College Education Be Vocation-Oriented? (418字)Due to the increased enrollment of college students in recent years, the total number of graduates coming out at the same time is such that many college graduates have difficulties in procuring jobs, especially when the economy is suffering slowdown. And then many scholars suggest that colleges should lay emphasis on vocational training by setting relative courses in the college curriculum so that graduates are more likely to be employed. Taking the employers’ requirement into consideration, that is, wor king experience, the suggestion seems reasonable. However, I think, even if universities become vocation-oriented, it can not serve well for the employment. Besides, the vocational orientation will do harm to the higher education.Firstly, the suggestion seems to be based on the fact that new college graduates may have learned mountains of theories but lack practical abilities. In accord with this suggestion, if college students have received enough vocational training and gained experience in internship, they are likely to get employed. Admittedly, self-improvement is crucial for new graduates to hunt jobs. But the suggestion does not take into account job vacancies in the present. Though China’s economy keeps growing at a rate of about 9% in the recent an d the number of jobs does increase, too many graduates coming out at a time will create great pressure for the job market. As an official stated, “the grand college enrollment plan is one of the main reasons for the current unemployment issue”. Therefore, even if college students have enough experience and skills, will they succeed in procuring jobs when there are no positions available at all?Secondly, vocational orientation is to the detriment of the higher learning in the long term. Let us begin with the difference in goals between university and vocational training. As college students may decide to finish hisstudies after graduation or may continue at a higher level, university courses should thus provide both basic knowledge and a sound basis for further studies. In vocational training, the goals of a given course are distinct, that is, the course is designed to teach trainees basic knowledge and skills. In consequence, if universities are vocation-oriented, students at college can not get prepared in class for a higher level of learning. Predictably, the pyramid of higher learning will crumble if universities can not produce enough qualified students. In conclusion, vocation-orientation may help improve graduates’ skills but it can not increase the number of available positions. The suggestion just offers a wrong remedy, and will do harm to the higher learning.6. On Following Suit (402字)As people respond to incentives, they will change their behaviors if they perceive that costs or benefits change. This principle seems to find wide application in our daily lives. When college graduates learn that receiving a master degree will give them an upper hand in the job market, many decide to take part in post-graduate entrance examinations. In China, it is regarded as following suit. Though we admire those who pride themselves on sticking to their ideals and principles, odds may not be against those who follow suit. Generally speaking, there are both advantages and disadvantages of following suit.Firstly, following suit is indicative of the fact that followers have no indispensable beliefs or fixed principles and hence they are flexible in the vicissitudes of lives. When the social context changes and opportunities arise, those followers are the first to respond and make decisions. Take the English training service for example. In early 1990s, increasing number of college graduates decided to study overseas and hence English training service was in large demand. Given that forerunners had make a fortune by providing training programs to those graduates, many businessmen just followed suit and established several training schools. Undoubtedly, those who followed suit when the market did not reach saturation did make money.Secondly, it is noteworthy that following suit can avoid making mistakes. For those forerunners, there is no previous information at their hand, and therefore, it will take a long time to learn and improve by trial and error. During the period of trial and error, forerunners will encounter unexpected difficulties and pressures. As a result, when those become successful in certain domains, they have proved that the path will lead to success, providing both pros and cons. On the contrary, followers need not experience the process of trial and error. They can just imitate their forerunners’ proven pattern of behaviors and have easier access to success. There are also some disadvantages of following suit. When there are so many followers, the world will become crowded and odds are against those later followers. Furthermore, following suit prevents innovation and creation, which is to the detriment of our society. However, whether one should follow suit or not is not simply a to-be-or-not-to-be question. A basic assumption of individual person is that everyone is rational. So one should carefully calculate costs and benefits in specific circumstances before they decide to follow suit or not.7. Should Chinese Language Course Be Adopted in College Curricula? (437字)The moment I saw the topic, a post originally submitted in Peking University BBS occurred to me. The post composed of a conversation between a Chinese young man, the author, and a waiter coming from Japan. The author suffered frustration when the waiter asked him about Chinese culture. Surprisingly, the Japanese demonstrated that he got command of more Chinese culture than most Chinese young people. I do not know what your initial response is supposing that you were set in the circumstance. As a matter of fact, Chineselanguage course has drawn scant attention among college students, for many students lay their emphasis on English learning. I am of opinion that Chinese language course should be set in the category of compulsory courses in college curriculum.Firstly, it is high time for college students to re-learn Chinese language. For many Chinese students, they just learn Chinese language for examinations’ sake in elementary schools and high schools. In other words, many learn Chinese language to get high scores instead of grasping the essence of Chinese culture. In fact, we can not measure one’s understanding of culture by how many scores he get in the examinations or how many poems and essays he has memorized. What matters is whether one can figure out the gist and facilitate his life through what he gains from the learning. In college, students are not imposed as much pressure as in high school in learning Chinese language. Besides, they are more mature than in childhood and have the ability to think critically. If they do not seize the chance to re-learn the Chinese language, odds are that they can not inherit wisdoms of our ancestors and not get prepared for the future.Secondly, since western cultures are looming large in China with the advent of globalization, Chinese traditional culture seems to be endangered. Many people, especially the youth, are interested in learning foreign language, English in particular, and their cultures. They prefer to watch American movies, Japanese cartoons, and listen to foreign music. While western cultural products are well received, the popularity of the Chinese counterpart is on the decrease. When foreign cultures are so prevalent in China, will our future generation figure out our Chinese cultural identity? As the basic manifestation of culture, Chinese language deserves more attention and better treatment. Chinese universities should take the responsibilities to preserve and develop our traditional culture, Chinese language in particular. All in all, as traditional Chinese culture and wisdom manifest themselves in Chinese language, adopting the course in the curricula will not only educate college students, but also help preserve and develop Chinese culture.8. College Students’ Image Reconsidered (487字)Nowadays, college students comprised of the post-80 generation and the post-90 generation are always put in the storm of criticisms. To list a few of these criticisms, they are accused of being spoiled by their parents, for the majority of them are the only children of their families. Brought up in the social context of opening up and reform, they are always renounced by the older generation that they have been westernized looking to western cultures as fashionable and being cynical the Chinese counterpart. Given more and more college graduates have difficulties in finding decent jobs, they are perceived by the older generations as not competent as college students of the older generations. However, I am of opinion that the aforementioned negative image is imposed upon the post-80 and -90 generations, which is unfair.Firstly, as the majority of post-80 and -90 generation college students are at school or in the lower layers of social myriad, they are vulnerable to their superior’s judgments. As is known, those older generations were brought up in a less affluent and isolated society, they were denied a favorable social background. College students in the past had to work harder to be admitted due to the limited resources of higher learning. When they were in college, many could not gain allowance from their families so that they got into the habit of frugality. Before the adoption of opening up policy, it’s difficult for them to get access to foreign cultures, not to mention American movies and Japanese cartoons. As a result, those older generations are likely to deem any behaviors different from their own experiences as unacceptable and due to their seniority they are able toexpress their judgments on various occasions. On the contrary, the post-80 and -90 generations can not voice their opinions in a society dominated by the older generations.Secondly, admittedly, part of the post-80 and -90 college students fit into the negative image, but they can not represent all the college students. According to our experience, there are students who are obsessed with computer games, who spend a lot of time keeping love affairs, and who spend money in an extravagant manner. In comparison with these students, the majority of the post-80 and -90 students can fit into an ideal model of college students. Some absorb themselves in the library all day long. Some take part-time jobs in their spare time to pay for tuition fees. Some voluntarily go to the remote areas to teach poverty-stricken students. I was wondering why the media do not provide more reports of those positive aspects of the post-80 and -90 generation college students. On all accounts, the negative image is imposed by those established older generations, and can not represent all the college students. As a member of the post 80 and 90 college students, I believe that we will still be the backbone of our society in the future.9. Should Public Announcement of Disciplinary Measures Be Abolished? (412字)In the recent, it is reported that students commit suicides after school authorities make public announcement of disciplinary measures against those culprits’ violating certain school regulations. Oftentimes, those culprits’ parents would sue schools for compensations. No matter how much money they are compensated, it can not change the fact that the dead students are not to regenerate. Some educationalists hence suggest that public announcement of disciplinary measures be abolished. They argue that students are fragile in psychology for they are the only children and usually get too much protection from families. But should they get away with punishments? I do not think so.Firstly, as students have already borne in their mind the consequences that if they break certain school regulations, they must take the responsibility. They should accept any due punishments. I do not believe that those students have no idea of what those regulations are or any previous regulation enforcements. Generally speaking, they are repeatedly told not to breach school norms and regulations by their head teachers and parents. Before students sit certain exams, they will be reminded again of disposing of any material relevant to examinations. They will also be informed what consequences they are to bear if they don’t conform to the regulations. Therefore, if they still intend to break norms and regulations, they must accept any forms of punishment without complaints. Otherwise, norms and regulations would have no bonding effects.Secondly, the purpose of public announcement of disciplinary measures is to help those culprits by supervision of the public. As people tend to hold their mistakes from being revealed to other people, they actually avoid acknowledging their mistakes and are unwilling to correct them. After the publication of their mistakes, culprits would be judged by their classmates, friends and teachers, and hence they can be imposed pressures not to err again. Without the publication, as those culprits may regard school authorities as lenient, they can get away with light punishments. It is more likely that they would err in the same manner. In a word, the public announcement of disciplinary measures means to help those culprits, instead of punishing them for the punishment’s sake. Some culprits may be not ready to accept th e criticism after the public announcement is made. If this is the case, why do they not take a while to decide whether it is worthwhile to make these mistakes? Isn’t it irresponsible that they make mistakes and want to get away with due punishments?。
