The passages and the conversation will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage.Every year in the US, about 133 million pounds of food goes to waste. A lot of it is fruits and vegetables like three legged carrots and forked strawberries. They are deserted simply because they are not pretty enough to be displayed on store shelves. If you look at the big picture, about a third of the planet’s food goes to waste for the same reason. That’s enough to feed 2 billion people. Now a company called Imperfect Me is trying to change that situation. The company collects ugly fruits and vegetables from farmers and markets and sells them to local residents at a deep discount. It canbe 30 to 50% off the regular price. Similar campaigns are underway in places like Boston, as well as Portugal and the UK. For now, most chain supermarkets don't carry ugly fruits and vegetables. But Steve Clarks of Imperfect Me hopes the supermarkets will come around because customers want such food. He says it is really easy to convince people when they realize they can pay a lower price to get the same kind of taste and health. Now, listen again.(Now listen again please.)Questions:11.According to the passage, for what reason is a third of the world's food deserted?Because the food is not pretty enough/ ugly.12.What can we learn about the company Imperfect Me from the passage? It is a brilliant company.13. What is the passage mainly about? It mainly talks about a company that deals with the unnecessary waste of ugly fruits and vegetables.Questions 14 through16 are based on the following passage.A city in England has started an ambitious plan to plant as many as 1 million trees every year for the next decade. The project is called The City of Trees. Project director Tony Brown explained that the green venture has three main aims. He said, “One is to plant a tree for every man, woman and child over the next decade. Next, we are very much focused on bringing existing woodland into management because it doesn't make any sense to plant new woodland if you can't manage what you’ve got already. Finally, we want to engage people a lot more in their natural environment, that is in planting trees, in managing areas and in understanding more about the benefits that trees and woodlands bring to our society.” Mr. Brown further outlined the reasons for the recently launched environmental project. He said, “Our city wants to be a world class region. We have a lot of fantastic economic development going on, but the natural environment needs to keep up with that.” He believes the project will reconnect people with trees and the natural world, provide benefits to health and reduce stress. He said woodlands can do great things in terms of air pollution reduction and can help to protect against noise pollution. They can also help cities and towns reduce the urban heat island effect and flooding.(Now listen again please.)Questions:14. According to the passage, how many trees will be planted in all in the next decade?10 million.15. According to the passage which of the following is a main goal of the project? To plant a tree for every citizen. / To manage existing woodland. / To get people more involved in the natural environment.16. According to Tony Brown, which of the following is a reason to launch the project? To match the natural environment with the economic achievement. / To provide mental health benefits. / To relieve the urban heat island effect. / To absorb pollution.Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.W: How can I help you?M: Um...I think my car has been stolen.W: Can you give me the details?M: It's a red minivan.W: When and where did you last see it?M: This morning. I left it in front of Number One classroom building.W: Let me check. It appears your van was in the staff-only parking zone.M: I'm sorry. I was a bit late for my class. I had to find a place so I could get to my classroom quickly.W: But since you shouldn't have left your car there, it was moved away.M: Um... Then how do I get my car back?W: Well, go to the campus traffic office. That's opposite the administration building and on the left side of the stadium. Please bring your student card along.M: I will. Do I have to pay a fine?W: I'm sorry to say: yes. There is a parking fine. And before taking your car, you also have to pay for the storage fee.M: OK. How much will that be?W: The storage fee is $5 per day. So you'd better pick up your car today if possible. The fine is 50. But if you pay within three days, the fine is reduced to 20.M: I see. Thanks.(Now listen again please.)Questions:17. What happened to the man's car?His car was moved away.18.What can be learned about the staff-only parking zone?Students are not allowed to park cars at staff-only parking zone.19.To get back his car, where should the man go?The campus traffic office.20.How much should the man pay altogether, if he picks up his car this afternoon?25.。

Tape Script 1 W: Normally, we supply 3 colors only, black, blue and red. M: But we really want green ones. W: In that case, it will be more expensive. 2 M: Are you finished with the newspaper, Mary? W: Almost. Here, you can take the news section. And the entertainment section is in the living room. M: Oh, I just want to read the sports section. 3 M: I need a summer job that will give me some exercise. W: How about being a life guard? M: Life guards don’t swim that much. They usually just sit. W: Well then, you could become a swimming coach, or a tour guide. M: Tour guide is a good idea. I’d walk all day. 4 M: Are you going on holiday with your brother again this year? W: Yes. He’s coming home from Canada tomorrow. M: Where are you going? W: I’ve already booked a hotel in Turkey, but my brother wanted to go to Italy, so I hope he doesn’t mind. 5 W: I thought it was a great movie. So visually exciting and the sharks look really scary at times. M: I hated to admit it, but it made me jump a bit of times too. I guess recent advances in camera technology helped. 6-7 M: Hello, 6632278. W: Hi, Jack. It’s me, Ann. I wasn’t at school today. Have we got any homework to do for tomorrow? M: Let me see. Well, we got to do the math problems on page 40 in our textbook. W: All right. I’ve got it. M: Then, we have to go on with our reading for English. The history teacher wants us to read the chapter on the History of London for tomorrow, and write down the most important dates and events in that chapter. W: Anything else? Ah…music? M: No, we haven’t any music homework, but the science teacher is giving us a test on Friday, so we have to study for that. W: Oh no. I’m so bad at science. I hate it. Thanks, Jack. M: Don’t mention it. See you tomorrow. 8-9 M: Still feeling ill? W: Yes. That medicine hasn’t helped. Not a go od start to our vacation, I’m afraid. M: Do you have any idea what caused it? W: Well, I thought it might be last night’s dinner. M: But I’m fine. Could it be the heat? It’s enough to make anyone ill. W: I know. But we’ve been here a week now. Anyway, I’ve been careful in the sun and I’ve been drinking bottles of water. M: Then we’d better stay in the hotel today. 10-12 M: Well, do you have anything planned for the Saturday? W: Eh, I’m kind of busy. Why do you ask? M: I was wondering if we could get together and do something, like going to a concert or taking a walk by the lake. W: I’d love to, but I’m really busy this weekend. M: That’s too bad. W: I have promised to help with the clean ing of the house at 10:30 in the morning. And then, I have an appointment with the dentist at 12:30pm. M: How about after the dentist’s appointment? W: Then, I have to meet Jim at 4:30pm to help him with the science project due on Monday morning. M: OK, then, maybe some other time. 13-15 Well, we are now looking at ways to make shopping less tiring. You know, a day at the shops wears people out. And we considered a number of ideas. Carrying shopping around is very tiring, and we looked at ways to avoid that. We thought of hiring out small electrically driven cars to shoppers, but we came up against problems of space. There just isn’t enough room. We also thought about those moving walk ways, like the ones you see at the airports. We decided it against then though, because they require a major redesign of the whole center. What we have actually come up with is a new technology where you but what you want and then just leave it on the shelf. That way, you don’t need to carry your h eavy shopping around with you all day. When you want to go home, our computer system automatically sends everything you’ve bought to your exit point, and you pick it up there. 16-20 W: Good morning, Sir. Can you help me? M: What’s wrong? W: My daughter is missing. I can’t find her anywhere. M: OK, calm down. I’m going to help you to find her. How long ago did she go missing? W: About one hour ago. At 4 o’clock, perhaps. I’ve been looking for her for almost an hour now. M: And where did you last see her? W: We were just shopping in the vegetable section. I turned around and she was gone. M: What’s her name? W: Melissa. M-E-L-I-S-S-A. She’s only five. She doesn’t speak Spanish. M: OK. What does she look like? W: She has dark brown hair. She’s thin and small for her age. M: OK. What is she wearing today? W: Blue shorts and a pink T-shirt. She has a hat on too, I think. M: Don’t worry. Everything is going to be OK. W: What should I do? M: Stay right at the front of the store in case she is looking for you. We will start looking for her now. 2011é«˜è€ƒè‹±è¯åŒ—äº¬å ·å ¬åŠ›ä¹‹å ¬åŠ›å¡«ç©ºåŽŸæ–‡ã€€ã€€W: Good morning, sir. And in today’s program, I’dlike to share with you a special kind of English culture—the football. A lot ofpeople in England are crazy about football. During the football season, whenever there is a big match, all the flags for local football teams, such asLiverpool and Newcastle are hung outside every window or even spread proudly onT-shirts or scarves. There is an atmosphere of excitement in the air. Groups ofyoung men crowd into dark packed pubs, staring at television screens. Ofcourse, they are covered head to toe in the colors of their team. They shout andscream in sadness when their team loses a goal or with joy when there is amoment of success. You do not have to be a fan of football to get caught up inthe excitement, as far as victories are concerned. England had its big momentin 1966 in Wimbledon Stadium. The World Cup victory is in the hearts and mindsof all football fans. Now, whenever England is playing a big match, red and white covers every inchof every pub, a symbol of hope一the Englishflag. While football has never been something I’m particularly interested in.For years, I’ve had to pretend excitement and pick a team to support. Youcannot say you don’t like or do not follow football in England, as often thiswill lead to a long dialogue in which someone will begin telling you why youshould support their team.。

How can I help you?W: I have several guests coming to visit for the holidays, and I want to know how I can get them from the airport to my house.M: Okay, are you familiar with our door-to-door shuttle service?更多精品文档W: Yes, I can use it myself. The thing is, I have 50 dollars a person. That means 350 dollars for seven people. It’s a little expensive. M: How about hiring our mini bus?W: How much is it?M: It costs 150 dollars, and you can drive straight from the airport to your house.W: Oh, that sounds great. W: Sure, why not?更多精品文档M: Oh, there’s a nice café about two minutes from here.W: Let’s go then.13~15W: It’s 8:00 am, and I’m on the platform at Sullivan Station. I’m waiting for the train to central station. I’m noticing that they’ve made improvements to this station. It’s cleaner, there are benches to sit on, and there are the arts on the walls. Because of that, this part of my trip has become more pleasant. Now it’s 8:30. I’ve arrived at the central station. The N o.3 bus is in the weary side, and the bus is often very crowded at this time, so I choose to walk to my office. Still I have to say that trains and buses and walking are all better than driving. Traffic is getting worse every day and parking is more expens ive. I guess it’s worth leaving my car at home.
