Though uniforms have long been a staple of private schools, they are still a rarity in public schools. This is not merely a debate over the aesthetics of fashion. Rather, this debate lies at the very heart of the politics of fashion. What students choose to wear (and what their parents allow them to wear) to school consistently rouses strong feelings and animated discussion. Much has already been said in defense of and against school uniforms, and I won't belabor the individual points further. There are many valid points on both sides of the argument. Instead, I intend to explain why I personally stand in opposition to school uniforms and highlight the reasons why uniforms would serve very little purpose in our specific school district. For the most part, students in our district are well behaved and don't approach any semblance of extreme behavior or expression. Administrators seem to be more worried about a potential escalation of student expression that so far has shown no indication of materializing. Principals and other district administrators are chasing shadows—they're looking to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Our district has no history of student activism, and there are only a few examples of flagrant violations of the existing dress code. In short, there is absolutely no precedent to believe that students will choose to begin acting out against authority through fashion statements.School uniforms seem to be an inappropriate response to a nonexistent problem. It is an unnecessary exertion of power by administrators who don't know how to properly exercise authority. Let's take a moment to consider a hypothetical school district that is overwhelmed by student discipline problems. Would the institution of school uniforms be an appropriate response in that case I would argue in the negative. Uniforms, by themselves, would in no way prevent students from expressing themselves or their views. Improper and unpopular behaviorwill not be stifled by a school uniform. It may actually make the situation worse, as resentment over the mandatory clothing would likely be great.School uniforms obviously interfere with students' right to self-expression—a right thatshould be protected in the public school system. In addition, mandating that all students wear identical (and unattractive) outfits enforces the message that conformity is the preferred method to prevent or resolve conflict. This is certainly not an appropriate message for our schools to be sending to children.41. Newspaper editorial.B. Academic journal.C. Fashion blog.D. Education magazine.43. According to the author, which is NOT the reason why school uniforms are a bad ideaA. For example, Thomas Edison, thefamous American inventor, had tried hundreds of materials before he finally found the suitable fuse for the electric bulb. However, unfortunately, for most people failure is the end of their struggle. Therefore, in my opinion, success is one thing and fame is another. As long as you havetried your best, you’ re already successful whether you are famous or not.Theme-Related WritingWrite a composition of no less than 150 words on the topic“Fame—Good or Evil?”. Your paper should cover the following points:1)the advantages of being famous2)the disadvantages of being famous3)your attitude towards fameSample essay:Fame — Good or Evil?Fame has always been pursued by many people for the advantages it brings about. Fame canassure one of a high social status, high regard, great admiration, etc. Fame can also bringone wealth as a celebrityhas more chances to earn big money. Besides, the applause and flowers from fans may boost one’s self-confidence and increase one’ s sense of fulfillment. However, fame can ruin one’ s life, too. It deprives one of his privacy. As a public figure, he is often chased by fans and journalists, and his private life never escapes the media’ sattention or public curiosity. Fame also places one under great pressure. He has to work inline with public expectations and thus becomes the slave of his own success. So fame is a double-edged sword. I don’t seek fame and I don’ t envy those who are famous.I highly appreciate what the Americanpoet Henry Wadsworth Longfellowsays about fame:“ Thetalent of success is nothing more than doing well whatever you do without a thought of fame. ”。

At the beginning, it was extremely hard for me to learn the roles and remember the recipes. I had to stand there and smile. At the end of the day, I was so tired that I almost could do nothing. After a few days of working, the head waiter told me that I could take charge as a chief. I knew if I worked hard, I would take charge of a room. It meant I can get more tip. I was glad to do that.As new, it was not an easy thing to serve all customers well. Sometimes, I dished up wrongly. Or I forgot the customer's requirements. What is worse, I overturned the plates twice. However, I could not be defeated because of these difficulties. One day, I was about to be off duty when three foreigners came here. Because other colleagues could not speak English well, I had to stay to serve them. It was my first time to talk with a foreigner. However, suddenly, my mind was blank even though I had memorized 3000 words. How can I talk to them? I began to speak slowly, but think fast.“Excuse me, what can I do for you?” I said it word by word. At the same time, I showed them the menu.“No, we order…with some rice.” They said so quickly that I couldn't know what they wanted.“Pardon?” I asked with embarrassment.“Oh, we want tomatoes and eggs. Look at this, 'xi hong shi chao ji dan',” He showed me a note with some Chinese characters.I tried my best to calm down. His pronunciation was different, which is not similar to my past study. So the communication seemed to be a little difficult. It made my colleagues laugh.“I got it. What else?” “I tried my best to keep calm as I could. I had no reason to laugh at them because of my bad English.”“Water, please.” Then, a pot of tea was on the table. The more terrible thing was that the rice was sold out. How can I explain this to them?We were closing the store for the night. It was normal. However, we had been alternative.“Hum, there is no rice left. How about noodles? Like this and this.” I feltembarrassed extremely. I could not translate the name to them and just showed the picture in the menu to them.Maybe they were hungry, or they had no choice. They agreed me.They said something and laughed. I could hardly understand it. But it was not my business. The thing that I need to do was serve them more considerate. They were eating and I was to go back to hostel. Before long, they finished their supper and said: "How much?"So, I had to stay more minutes. I gave them the bill.“It is too expensive.” They yelled. I knew it was too expensive here. But I had no idea. I could do nothing for them, just smiled to them. Finally, I gave them the bills and I got rid of the serve. At the way to school, I saw them and we went the same way. They were students too.。
