When the local people heard what happened, they raced out in their boats to look for his body, beating drums to scare away evil spirits and fish. They also dropped zongzi into the river so Qu Yuan's spirit would have something to eat.Ever since then, dragon boat racing and eating zongzi have become huge traditions to honor Qu Yuan's memory and patriotism. Every Dragon Boat Festival, we retell the story of Qu Yuan's noble sacrifice and talent as one of ancient China's greatest poets. My grandpa always dresses up and recites some of Qu Yuan's poems for us on festival day while we listen reverently. Even though the story is very old, I'm proud to be part of a culture with such deep historic roots and values of honor, loyalty and remembrance of our ancestors.The Dragon Boat Festival is way more than just fun and games — it's about coming together as a family and community to celebrate our rich Chinese heritage. I feel so fortunate to be part of these centuries-old traditions that connect me to the past. Eating zongzi, watching the dragon boat races, wearing perfume pouches, hanging lanterns, and commemorating Qu Yuan —these are all special activities that make the Dragon Boat Festival so meaningful and memorable every single year. I can't wait to pass these traditions down to my own kids someday!。
