Many bats live a longer time than other animals of their size.European researchers are studying bats to understand why they live so long. They hope to make discoveries to fight the aging process(过程) in human beings.Last week, the group of scientists said they had found important biological qualities in some bat species. The group studied bat chromosomes(染色体), a line of genes found in the nucleus(核) of cells. The scientists were most interested in parts connected to the ends of the chromosomes. They are called telomeres(端粒). Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes, which shorten each time a cell divides. Scientists believe this shortening process causes cells to break down.A report on bats was published this month in the journal Science Advances.Among the leaders of the study was Emma Teeling, a biologist with University College Dublin in Ireland. Teeling said studying long-living mammals that have developed ways to fight aging is another way to prove the molecular(分子) basis of extended health length. She added that studying bats made scientists able to learn more about the processes that drive healthy aging. The European researchers studied 493 bats from four bat species. The group used information that had been gathered over more than 60 years. Of these animals, the greater mouse-eared bat generally lived the longest, an average of 37 years. The scientists said this and a related species, which are grouped together under the name Myotis, had telomeres that did not shorten with age. Another Myotis bat holds the record for the oldest age, reaching 41 years. The scientists' findings suggest that these bats' cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeres. This, they said, helps guard against the aging process. Based on its body size, a bat like the greater mouse-eared bat would be expected to live four years. But, these mammals have been found to live nearly 10 times longer than that. The scientists found that eighteen of these are bats. The only exception is an unusual African rodent, the naked mole rat.11.Which sentence can be put at the end of Paragraph 3? ( )A.This makes scientists able to study bats.B.That's why bats can fly a great distance.C.They say this is what causes aging.D.They discover the cells connected to humans.12.Why do some species of bats live a very long time? ( )A.Because they have a line of long-living genes out of the cells.B.Because their cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeres.C.Because they have another ability to live longer without any food or water.D.Because telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes to stop cells dividing.13.The underlined word “that” refers to . ( )A.four yearsB.body sizeC.the aging processD.the ability to repair14.What's the best title of the passage? ( )A.Differences Between Long-Living AnimalsB.A Science Report on ChromosomesC.Do Bats Hold the Secret to Long Life?D.Are Humans and Bats Similar in Protecting Themselves?Ⅲ.[2019·凉山州]还原短文People travelled to see the buildings, the food, the national dresses in foreign countries because they thought they would not be the same as those of their own countries in the past. 15. They all have their Hilton or Sheraton Hotels everywhere. They all have their McDonald's, theirKFCs and their Pizza Huts. Office buildings look the same everywhere, and most city centers are full of office buildings. And of course, people are driving the same brands of Japanese or European cars. Then why is the foreign travel more popular nowadays? What do tourists hope to experience in a foreign country that they cannot experience at home? The answer could be that people could be very interested in the past. 16. Most people travel overseas to find out what foreign countries' history and culture used to be like, not what they are like today. Tourists visit different kinds of museums in foreign countries so that they can learn their history and culture.Every country also has its own beautiful places for tourists to visit. 17.18. It is not just its old buildings, its works of art or beautiful places, but also the people who live in it. This is why a country such as Thailand attracts millions of people. The tourists come mainly because of the friendliness of the people there. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.One thing I can tell you is that, once you’ve started learning, you should try to think in Englishas much as you can. If you see something when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about “How would I say them in English?” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I’m in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It’s amazing how much this helps. For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally I got it over. And while traveling in America, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you’re writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement.21.Th e writer learned English in Wuhan University for about .A.a weekB.a monthC.a termD.a year22.According to the writer, is a good way to improve your English.A.thinking in EnglishB.learning English grammarC.watching English filmsD.reading English books23.The underlined phrase “get it over” in Paragraph 3 means “” in English.A.stick to itB.depend on itC.overcome itD.understand it24.To the writer’s surprise, his English improved quickly .A.in the universityB.in the middle schoolC.in ChinaD.in America25.The best title for this passage should be .A.The Importance of EnglishB.My English Learning ExperienceC.My University LifeD.My American FriendsⅣ.[2018·石家庄裕华区一模]任务型阅读阅读短文,并按要求完成26~30 题。
