And Julie Andersen of the Plastic Oceans Foundation says what we see is just the ti p of the problem. “Half of the waste actually sinks to the bottom, and that remains on the surface actually breaks down. ”The filmmakers found rubbish in ocean gyres, the circulating currents that trap large concentrations of pollution in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacifc Oceans, home of what some have plastic. What we found was a plastic smog that spread throughout all the water. 阅读理解Passage 1There are stories about two U.S . presidents,Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, which attempt to explain the American English term OK.We don’t know if either story is true, but they are both interesting. The first explanation is based on the fact that President Jackson had very little education. In fact,he had difficulty reading and writing. When important papers came to Jackson,he tried to read them and then had his assistants explain what they said.If he approved of a paper.he would write“all correct”on it.The problem was that he didn’t know how to spell. So what he really wrote was“ol korekt”.After a while,he shortened that term to“OK”.The second explanation is based on the place where President Van Buren was born,Kinderhook,New York.Van Bnren’s friends organized a club to help him become President They caned the club the Old Kinderhook Club, and anyone who supported Van Buren was called“OK”.Passage 1这里要讲述Andrew Jackson和Martin Van Buren这2届美国总统的小故事。

(英语)高考英语阅读理解试题(有答案和解析)含解析一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is gaining global popularity. According to a government white paper, TCM has been introduced in 183 countries and regions around the world. Westerners' understanding of TCM, however, may be limited to acupuncture, cupping and massage(针灸,拔罐和按摩). For instance, the purple, injury-like marks left on U. S. swimmer Michael Phelps, back from cupping for the purpose of relaxing his muscles and reducing pain became the center of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016.As a matter of fact, Chinese herbs play a more important role in getting rid of diseases and keeping the body in good condition in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. It is therefore disheartening to know that while 103 World Health Organization member countries have given approval to the practice of acupuncture, not many recognize Chinese herbal medicine. TCM falls far behind Western medicine owing partly to the slow development of Chinese herbs. Herbs are made into pills, powder and soup, and the kind of herbs used, their quality and quantity, and the processing of the ingredients (原材料) jointly determine the effectiveness of the prescription. Compared with Western medicine, which has standardized drug production processes and treatment methods, TCM lacks standardization, with the chemical composition and functions of its medicines being unclear and their effects being unstable. Fortunately, standardization has improved in recent decades, with an increasing number of factories producing patented TCM drugs.Another factor that has prevented the development of TCM prescription drugs is the lack of creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year, TCM drug producers tend to make medicines according to prescriptions handed down from the past. Chinese chemist Tu Youyou's winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria (疟疾) treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China's TCM industry. However, the current state of affairs cannot be changed within a short time.(1)Why does the author mention the example of Michael Phelps?A. Because he was injured in his swimming.B. Because cupping is a kind of important TCM treatment.C. Because westerners know a little about TCM.D. Because westerners attach great importance to TCM.(2)Why don't some member countries of WHO recognize Chinese herbal medicine? A. Because Chinese herbs can get rid of diseases. B. Because they only approve the practice of acupuncture.C. Because Western medicine is more effective.D. Because medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly.(3)Compared with Western medicine, what is the weak point of TCM in Paragraph 4? A. The methods of planting herbs. B. The effectiveness of prescription.C. Lacking in standardization.D. Its stable functions.(4)The lack of creativity in TCM refers to the fact that ________.A. medicine-making companies lack creativityB. prescriptions are got from the pastC. Western companies are more experiencedD. medicine-making companies lack driving force【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)C(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,街扫了传统中药的好处。

【英语】高三英语阅读理解题20套(带答案)及解析一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Many scientists today are convinced that life exists elsewhere in the universe---life probably much like that on our own planet. They reason in the following way.As far as astronomers can determine, the entire universe is built of the same matter. They have no reason to doubt that matter obeys the same laws in every part of the universe. Therefore, it is reasonable to guess that other stars, with their own planets, were born in the same way as our own solar system. What we know of life on earth suggests that life will arise wherever the proper conditions exist.Life requires the right amount and kind of atmosphere. This eliminates(除去) all those planets in the universe that are not about the same size and weight as the earth. A smaller planet would lose its atmosphere; a larger one would hold too much of it.Life also requires a steady supply of heat and light. This eliminates double stars, or stars that flare up suddenly. Only single stars that are steady sources of heat and light like our sun would qualify. Finally, life could evolve(进化) only if the planet is just the right distance from its sun. With a weaker sun than our own, the planet would have to be closer to it. With a stronger sun, it would have to be farther away.If we suppose that every star in the universe has a family of planets, then how many planets might support life? First, eliminate those stars that are not like our sun. Next eliminate most of their planets; they are either too far from or too close to their suns. Then eliminate all those planets which are not the same size and weight as the earth. Finally, remember that the proper conditions do not necessarily mean that life actually does exist on a planet. It may not have begun yet, or it may have already died out. This process of elimination seems to leave very few planets on which earthlike life might be found. However, even if life could exist on only one planet in a million, there are so many billions of planets that this would still leave a vast number on which life could exist.(1)The existence of life depends on all of the following factors EXCEPT .A.the right amount of atmosphereB.our own solar systemC.steady heat and lightD.the right distance from the sun(2)Which of the following statements is INCORRECT?A.The planet must be as big and heavy as the earth.B.Proper conditions are essential to the existence of life.C.Double stars can provide steady light and heat.D.The distance between a planet and its sun should be right.(3)What kind of planet might NOT support life?A.Most of the planets of the stars.B.Stars similar to our sun.C.Planets similar to the earth.D.Planets with proper conditions.(4)At the end of the passage the author suggests that .A.it is impossible for life to exist on planetsB.earthlike life could only exist on a few planetsC.life could exist on only one planet in a millionD.life could exist on a great number of planets【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)A(4)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,整个宇宙都是由同一种物质构成的,物质在宇宙的每一部分都遵循同样的规律。

We think about the mistakes we made in the previous day, how things went wrong, and how we felt bad about it. No wonder it becomes difficult to focus on the current day. Here are some steps on how to start your new day fresh:⒈Take time to evaluate your dayAt the end of a day, take some time to think about it. The purpose of this thinking time is not to regret how bad your day was, how things went wrong, or how people treated you badly. This won't do you any good. Instead, the purpose of this thinking time is to extract(吸取)lessons which you can bring to the following day.⒉Make a commitment to apply the lessonsAfter you extract the lessons, you should make a commitment to apply them. To do so, find some actionable things you can do to apply the lessons. Next, remind yourself to do them. You may write them down if you want to.⒊“Close” your dayAfter you have spent the time to think about the day and extract the lessons, make a decision to “close” the day. You are done with it; don't think about it anymore.⒋Bring only the lessons to the next day and nothing elseAfter you “dose” a day, you should not bring anything ou t of it to the next day except for the lessons you extract. 第2篇题材:学习压力体裁:夹叙夹议关键词:字数:282 阅读时间:5分钟Japanese students work very bard but many are unhappy. They feel heavy pressures(压力) from their parents. Most students are always told by their parents to study harder and better so that they can have a wonderful life in the future.Though this may be a good idea for those very bright students, it can have terrible results for many students who are not gifted(有天赋的) enough. Many of them have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and have their parents lose hope. Such students felt that they are hated by everyone else they meet and they don’t want to go to school any longer. They become dropouts. It is surprising that though most Japanese parents are worried about their children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not able to help their children and that it is the teachers’ work to help their children. To make matters worse, a lot of parents force their children to those schools opening in the evenings and on weekends — they only help the students to pass the exams and never teach them any real sense of the world. Many Japanese schools usually have rules about everything from the students’ hair to their clothes and things in their school bags. Child psychologists(心理学家) now think that such strict rules are harmful to the feelings of the students. Almost 40% of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others, how to tell right from wrong and how to show love and care for others, even for their parents.1. “Dropouts” are those who _______.A. make troubles in and out of schoolsB. go about or stay home instead of being at schoolC. try hard but always fails in the examsD. lose hope and give up some of their subjects2. According to the passage, it’s necessary to teach students _______.A. how to study wellB. how to get on with othersC. to show love and care for othersD. All above3. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?A. The Trouble in Japanese SchoolsB. The Problems of Japanese StudentsC. Education in JapanD.
