Unit1 Meet Robin

Good morning, dear judges, I’m Candidate No._______ applying for English teacher of the primary school. It is my great honor to be here to show my presentation.Today, my topic is the reading part Meet Robin. I will describe my thoughts in the following five parts: analysis of teaching material,analysis of students,teaching and learning methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. Now I will present them one by one.

I. Analysis of teaching material

The first and foremost part of my presentation is the teaching material. This lesson is taken from Unit 1, Book 5, published by People's Education Press (PEP). It is mainly about how to describe a person. It’s a practical topic, closely related to students’ da ily life. They can be benefited from such kind of practical topic.

Based on the analysis of teaching material,the teaching objectives are as follows:

1.Knowledge objective

All students can get the main idea of the passage.

2.Ability objectives

Most students can use the sentence pattern s “What’s he like? He is ___.” to describe persons and get the detailed information through skimming and scanning.

3.Emotional objectives

Students should cultivate their own good qualities for themselves in the real situation.

On account of teaching material and teaching objectives, the key points and difficult point are as follows:

The key points are the main idea of the passage,sentences and the reading strategies. While the difficult point is how to put the sentence patterns and reading skills into actual use.

II. Analysis of the students

As is known to everybody, students in Grade 5 have learned English for at least two years.They are curious about English and willing to speak English. But they can’t concentrate on the class for a long time. Therefore, all of the factors into consideration.

III. Teaching and learning methods

Considering the teaching objectives and students’ differences, I’ll adopt task-based language teaching approach, communicative approach and audio-visual method to arrange my lesson. Students will finish the activities and tasks in groups and pairs.

IV.Teaching procedures

Now let’s come to the most important part---Teaching procedures .

Step1 Warming up & Leading in

At the beginning of the class, with my students, I will sing a song just like this:Who’s your English teacher?Who’s your English teacher? Is she pretty or tall or short?Tell me what you know! After the English song, I will divide students into two groups “GA” and “GB” to do a PK game. I’ll describe a student, for example, she has long hair. She is tall,but a bit shy and let others guess who she/he is. Thus, the topic is naturally led in.

Target: Such form can create a relaxing learning atmosphere and lead students into the topic effectively.

Step2 Pre-reading

Given the knowledge objectives, I will show some pictures on PPT and let students guess what the passage is about.

Target: Playing a guessing game could arouse students’ interests to be eager to learn the passage.

Step3 While-reading

Task1 Skimming

Before the students read the passage for the first time after the tape, I will put forward two questions on the screen:

Q1:What’s his name?

Q2:What’s he like?

After reading, they should give the answers and I will give some assessments timely.

Task2 Scanning

No w that the students have found the main idea of the passage, I’ll give them some T or F exercises for them to finish after the second reading:

1. Robin is tall. ( )

2. Robin is hard-working. ( )
