The review of The Doll’s House

The Doll’s House is a play written by Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen. The play is a typical social drama. Mainly centered on the awakening of the former beloved heroine Nora. And ends with the departure of Nora. Henrik Ibsen is a Norway dramatist. The founder of modern prose dramas. His works emphasize personal happiness in life and ignore traditional social etiquette.

At the beginning of the drama,its shows us a happy view. Nora singing and dancing like a fortunate girl. Helmer also make fun of her. They was preparing a good Christmas Day.It looks they love each other very much. The husband would get a good job and the family would live a better life.

And in all the drama, the manner of speaking between Nora and Helmer are all like this, which looks joyful. But if you are enough careful, you will find that the writer is wise. Because there are many details that have pave the ways for the following. You may be aware of somethings very strange.

Firstly, Nora like to eat sweet almond biscuit, but Helmer don’t allow her to eat. So Nora have to eat the biscuits she liked in a sneak way.

Secondly, Nora was reducing the money spent on her cloths and eating. And Nora always asked Helmer for money.

Thirdly, Helmer usually called Nora as lark and squirrel. And the words between Nora and Helmer are very meaningless. It is obvious that Helmer took Nora as little kid completely.

These all suggested the gist of the drama. In the peaceful and loving surface of the family. We actually can see that the Nora and Helmer are not equal, nora don’t have a job to get money, and helmer ruled the whole family.

The appearances of the other figures are very close. The Mrs. Linde is a good friend of Nora. She and Doctor Rank came to visit Nora at the same time. Doctor Rank knew Mrs. Linde and was friendly to her, but Helmer was cold to her, which also makes us curious.

And according to the chat of Nora and Mrs. Linde, we can knew that Nora had done something to raise money for treating Helmer's disease, and she hadn’t wanted her husband known that.

Nils Krogstad, a worker of the bank which Helmer would work as a manager, also came to Helmer’s home. When Krogstad came Nora and Mrs. Linde both showed some abnormality, which also strengthens the mystery of the drama.

In the whole drama, the writer almost set up suspense at everywhere. But when we get here, the main doubtful points in the book have been set up, and the next is the development of the main contradiction of the drama.
