霍金-轮椅上的天才霍金----轮椅上的天才在新的千年到来之际,美国白宫曾进行了一系列的演讲,其中以科学为主题的演讲是《想像与变革---下一个千年的科学》。

它的演讲者就是英国剑桥大学应用数学与理论物理系教授、"轮椅天才"斯蒂芬·霍金。

他患有严重的残疾,双手只有3个手指能动。

这个极度残疾和极度聪明的科学家成了这次不同寻常演讲的理想人选。

外号叫"爱因斯坦"20世纪90年代,谈论宇宙学渐成一种时髦,宇宙大爆炸理论虽不是新的理论,但在公众心中却非常新颖。

特别是谈到霍金,人们表现出了极大的兴趣,并称他是自爱因斯坦之后最好的物理学家。

霍金是英国人。

他出生于1942年1月8日。

这一天恰好是意大利物理学家、近代物理学的奠基人伽利略逝世300周年的纪念日,几天前还是牛顿的生日:1643年1月4日。

当然,这并不意味着,呱呱坠地的小霍金头上罩上了金色的光环。

用霍金自己的话说:"我估计大约有二十万个婴儿在同日诞生"。

小霍金也像普通的小孩一样,喜欢玩具,着迷于玩具火车,甚至自己花钱买来了电动火车。

十几岁时,霍金还喜欢制作飞机模型和轮船模型,甚至尝试发明一些游戏,比如制作不同颜色零件的工厂、运送产品的公路和铁路,以及股票市场。

霍金和一个同学负责编制游戏的规则。

在编制这些游戏时,小霍金的目标是"建造我能控制的可以开动的模型","这些游戏及制作都来自于探究事物并且进行控制的要求"。

这种要求一直驱动霍金去"探究事物",甚至在后来的宇宙学研究中仍在起作用。
