在我国传统的英语教学中,绝大多数英语教授者和学习者对英语值日报告(duty report)这一形式并不陌生。

可以说,英语值日报告这一环节,在我国从小学到高中的英语教学中都非常普及。

但是,在我国的大学英语教学中,很多教师认为已没有必要再进行这一环节。

事实真是这样吗?
一、英语值日报告(duty report)的内容和形式
英语值日报告就是在英语课开始后的几分钟内,按照一定的排序,值日的学生在讲台上当着全班同学,用英语做报告。

传统的值日报告要求内容为天气,出勤情况等。

但对于高中及大学生的值日报告,与其说是值日生报告,不如说更像是一次小演讲(mini speech),或者是一次个人陈述(individual presentation)。

二、英语值日报告(duty report)的理论基础——swain的“输出假设”
美国语言学家克拉申(krashen)的输入假设将语言习得完全归功于语言输入(input),认为输出在语言习得中的作用似乎并不明显。

然而,著名二语习得专家、美国语言学家斯万(swain)在她的研究中指出,“可理解输入(input)”在语言习得中固然重要,但是并不是唯一的途径,输出(output)具有同样的重要性。

“学习者必须有机会使用所学的语言,这样才有可能达到流利、类似母语者的水平”。

大学英语值日报告正是大学生利用所学语言资源,对输出语言进行思考加工,进行语言输出(output)的最佳形式之一。

三、英语值日报告与“成就动机”重要性关系
1.成就动机(achivement motivation)
成就动机是个体追求自认为重要的有价值的工作,并使之达到完美状态的内部动力,即一种以高标准要求自己力求取得活动成功为目标的特殊心理状态和意愿。

美国哈佛大学教授,权威心理学家戴维·麦克利兰
(david.c.mcclelland)对人类动机和激励问题进行了长期研究,提出了成就需要(need for achievement)、亲和需要(need for affiliation)、权力需要要( need for power)——“三种需要理论”学说。

其中,追求成就动机是人格中非常稳定的特质,是人与生俱来的本性。

2.“成就动机”在英语值日报告中得到激发
机会均等
由于在大学课堂上,值日报告是由班上同学按一定秩序轮流来完成的,所以机会对每个人来说都是均等的。

平时课堂上发言的同学总是平时成绩优秀的同学,成绩偏差的学生不敢发言,即使发言也往往不能给出正确的回答。

而值日报告彻底解决了这一问题,不管是优生还是差生,都有同样的机会走上讲台,在全班同学和老师面前展示自己。

自主权及独立性激发学习兴趣、给予满足感与成就感
研究表明,给予学习者更多的学习自主权,能够激发学习者的学习兴趣和学习动机。

大学英语值日报告不限具体内容和形式,很大程度上给了学生独立创新的自主意识与权利。

而且学生选择的主题,恰好都是自己最感兴趣,最擅长的。

孔子曾说:“知之者不如好之者,好之者不如乐之者。

”这里的“乐”指的正是“兴趣”。

由兴趣产生的内驱力,能使人释放出能量,激发其朝着目标行动,尽快地达到目标,完成任务。

这个过程本身又能进一步激发学生对英语的兴趣,给予学生极大的满足感与成就感。

内容多样性充分展示才艺、激发成就动机
研究表明,个体记忆中存在着与成就相联系的愉快经验,当情境能引起这些愉快经验时,就能激发人的成就动机欲望。

大学英语值日报告虽与英语相关,但内容和形式可以完全不拘泥于课本学习,这往往能给学生愉快的体验,吸引其参与热情。

四、教师应注意的几点原则
通过以上分析,我们不难看出,成就动机作用与英语学习的关系
是相互促进、密不可分的。

但是,要让学生有成功的值日报告成就体验,一定要注意以下几方面的原则:
1.指导原则
教师应给予学生必要的、适当的指导。

鼓励学生选取自身感兴趣、与社会结合紧密的话题,要求学生发声要响亮、清晰,语速稍慢,以保证每位同学都能听清楚。

只有大家能听懂,才能保证之后的评价与反馈。

2.鼓励、奖励原则
值日报告应使班级里的每个学生做完后都有一种学习英语的成
就感。

所以,教师应采用鼓励为主的原则。

特别是当学生表现得不够理想或口语中有一些错误,教师应该先找其闪光点,采用欣赏、赞美的态度,轻松、和谐的口气,婉转道出其不足之处,切忌一口否定,伤其自尊心和自信心。

3.参与、反馈原则
反馈不仅是指教师对值日报告给予评价,其他同学的参与和反馈对于激发和满足值日报告者的成就动机也相当重要。

教师要求听者就报告内容提问,一方面,听者会集中注意力倾听报告,并记下要点或疑点,以便能够提出挑战性的问题;另一方面,报告者会在准备时更加精心、用心。

经过充分的准备,大多都能较好地回答听者提问,从而得到其听者的认可与赞赏。
