Task 1

Everyone has his own life and s ometimes we need to make a tough choice. As far as I’m concerned, achieving better education at university or college benefits us a lot. However, there are also many positive examples show that people who drop out of university can achieve success as well, such as Bill Gates.

Anyway, people get to make a choice himself. So my suggestion is that whatever the choice you make, stick to it. Only in this way can we realize ourselves.

Task 2

I can’t agree with that studying at a university is necessary for achieving success. And my reasons listed below.

First, different people have different ideas about success. Some of their dreams can be realized without studying at a university, such as being a taxi driver or a farmer.

Second, as we all know that Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. It shows that the ability to catch chances is more important than a university degree.

Anyway, as it to me, studying at a university is one of uncountable ways to achieve success, but not a necessary one.

Task 3

From the reading, we got know that the school is considering to offer students college directory. By this way, photos of students can be added in to directory and the contact information will be put on the internet.

In this conve rsation, the student holds a positive view towards the university’s plan. She holds this opinion for the following reasons.

One is that students can use the directory with photos in it to find the right person instead of someone who has the same name.

Also, she points out that the online service is convenient for students to find information with a computer.

Therefore, she is supportive to this plan.

Task 4

The reading passage introduces an emotion display rule. That is the expression of emotion depends on the society in which we are live in.

In the lecture, the professor provides an example of her 4-year old daughter to explain the idea in the reading passage. Before her daughter’s birthday party, she told her not to express her negative emotion when she got the gift which she didn’t like. And then she receive d a cloth she didn’t like at all from her grandmother. Before her disappointment become obvious, the professor-her mother said it’s beautiful. And the girl realized that she should give thanks an d a huge to her grandmother, and then she did that.

Task 5

The girl’s problem is that she can’t register for Dr. Jonson’s Asian history class because the register office has closed it.

There are 2 possible solutions to solve her problem. One is to take the class in summer with the same professor. But a 3 week’s class will be more intensive and make it impossible for the girl to get home early in the summer. The other one is take the class this semester with another professor though she is not sure for the professor’s teaching quality.

I prefer the second solution, because of the following reasons. First, high quality of teaching is one of the basic ability of professor. Second, taking summer course change the whole plan of the summer, that seems unacceptable.

Task 6

In the lecture, the professor discusses several ways for archaeologist to decide where they should dig for findings.

The first one is the surface features of the land. He provides example of New Zealand, which has a typical structure, giant stone. 原文没看懂.

The second is the plants: certain plants grow in certain places. The professor provides breadnut trees, which were planted in Central American, as an example. He points out that these trees continue reproduction and then archaeologist find this area has banana nuts tree to dig.
