写标题时应注意的问题:
(1)标题是一种“标记”,而不是句子(也有少数作者使用 句子作标题)。一个句子一般要有主语、谓语、宾语,标题 通常不采用句子形式,比句子简洁,但词的先后顺序很重要, 次序错误是标题写作中常犯的错误。

近年来,随着科技信息的大量引进,科技英语的翻译已成为翻译领域的重要组成部分之一。

以前人们存在有失偏颇的认识导向:以为科技翻译比较单纯,只要对号入座将原文译出就算完成了译事。

其实科技英语翻译并非想象的那样简单。

众所周知,翻译牵涉到两种语言,而每种语言各有其特殊的词汇组成、语法结构、及内在特征差异等,所以翻译一件作品实际上是一种再创作。

18世纪英国作家蒂特勒(Tytler)曾经说过“翻译是一门艺术,也是一门科学”。

作为科学,它必然有内在的规律;作为艺术,它需要有高超的技巧。

要真正做好简明、正确、恰当的科技英语翻译工作,就必须要掌握一定的翻译技巧。

笔者试从以下四个方面浅谈科技英语的翻译技巧。

领会科技英语的翻译准则正确理解原文词义的选择与确定科技翻译要与工程实践相结合领会科技英语的翻译准则科技英语主要是述说实理、描写现象、推导公式、论证规律,其特点是结构严谨、逻辑严密、行文规范、用词准确、技术术语正确。

针对科技英语的这些特点,在翻译科技英语时,首先考虑的就是忠实原文,著名翻译家严复一直倡导“信、达、雅”,“信”即“忠实”,也就是要完整地、准确地表达原作的思想内容,这是科技英语翻译的首要要求;其次要讲究的就是“达”,即通顺。

著名学者傅雷先生曾指出:“理想的译文仿佛是原作者的中文写作。

”海外学者钱歌川先生也指出“科技英语的翻译虽不像小说那样要求雅致优美,姿态横生,也不像翻译诗歌那样要求抑扬顿挫,押韵合辙,但要求至少文从字顺,明白流畅。

• 最简单有效的方法即采用IMRaD形式 (Introduction,Materials and Methods, Results,and Discussion) • Introduction(引言):研究的是什么问题? • Materials and Methods(材料和方法): 怎样研究这个问题? • Results(结果):发现了什么? • Discussion(讨论):这些发现意味着什么?
• 由于只有少数人研读整篇论文,多数人只是浏览 原始杂志或者文摘、索引的论文题目。因此须慎 重选择题目中的每一个字,力求做到长短适中, 概括性强,重点突出,一目了然。 • 论文题目一般由名词词组或名词短语构成,避免 写成完整的陈述句。在必须使用动词的情况下, 一般用分词或动名词形式。题目中介词、冠词小 写,如果题目为直接问句,要加问号,间接问句 则不用加问号。
题目的具体要求

题目的具体要求
• 题目用语需简练、明了,以最少的文字概括尽可 能多的内容。题目最好不超过10 ~ 12个单词,或 100个英文字符(含空格和标点),如若能用一 行文字表达,就尽量不要用2 行(超过2行有可能 会削弱读者的印象)。 • 在内容层次很多的情况下,如果难以简短化,最 好采用主、副题名相结合的方法,主副题名之间 用冒号(:)隔开 ,其中的副题名起补充、阐明作 用,可起到很好的效果。

• 要求使用法定计量单位以及正确地书写规 范字和标点符号;众所周知的国家、机构、 专用术语尽可能用简称或缩写;为方便检 索系统转录,应尽量避免使用图、表、化 学结构式、数学表达式、角标和希腊文等 特殊符号。 • 摘要的长度:ISO规定,大多数实验研究性 文章,字数在1000~5000字的,其摘要长 度限于100~250个英文单词。

• 采取适当的方式强调作者在本次研究中最重要的发现或贡 献,让读者顺着逻辑的演进阅读论文 • 解释或定义专门术语或缩写词,以帮助编辑、审稿人和读 者阅读稿件 • 适当地使用“I”,“We”或“Our”,以明确地指示作者本 人的工作,如:最好使用“We conducted this study to determine whether...”,而不使用“This study was conducted to determine whether...”。 叙述前人工作的欠 缺以强调自己研究的创新时,应慎重且留有余地。可采用 类似如下的表达:To the author's knowledge...;There is little information available in literature about...;Until recently, there is some lack of knowledge about...等等

• 按照欧美国家的习惯,名字(first name) 在 前,姓氏(surname / family name / last name) 在后。但我国人名地名标准规定, 中国人名拼写均改用汉语拼音字母拼写, 姓在前名在后。因此,若刊物无特殊要求, 则应按我国标准执行。如果论文由几个人 撰写,则应逐一写出各自的姓名。作者与 作者之间用空格或逗号隔开。
题目的具体要求
• 题目要准确地反映论文的内容。作为论文的“标 签”,题目既不能过于空泛和一般化,也不宜过 于繁琐,使人得不出鲜明的印象。为确保题目的 含义准确,应尽量避免使用非定量的、含义不明 的词,如“rapid”,“new”等;并力求用词具有 专指性,如“a vanadium-iron alloy”明显优于“a magnetic alloy”。 • 由于题目比句子简短,并且无需主、谓、宾,因 此词序就也变得尤为重要。
